The plot was next to a very busy main road opposite which was a building site, the noise was constant from both. The pub and restaurant were closed. We booked and paid for 2 nights, but, stayed only one. Very disappointed as we were expecting a peaceful break.

What can I say hmm Well I would really really like to leave a rotten review just so I could read the reply from the owner paul but alas he will have to save his wise words for someone more deserving of his wrath.... Seriously though me and my partner had a fantastic stay the place is lovely the people are lovely, millie (the dog) is adorable, nothing is too much trouble for the owners and site staff, I only wish we could of stayed longer but hey ho we are already planning our next visit and we only got back today, the pub food was great as was the company.... I called with a view to making a booking for dining. I asked whether the venue was showing sports as it says ‘Country Pub & Dining’ on the sign outside. The person who answered the phone rather rudely and abruptly dismissed me and said, “No. Why would I?”, cutting our conversation short. The ‘family-run’ venue clearly did not think our money was good enough.

Great little place to stop over for a few days. Pitch lovely and clean. Next to a road so some traffic noise but not enough to be a nuisance. Owners friendly and helpful. Didn't manage to eat in the pub as they were fully booked but had a few drinks. Pub lovely. Hardly anyone in whilst we were in there, but obviously due to Covid that's what you'd expect. Great base for exploring Chester. Ice cream farm up the road and The Crocky Trail nearby. As is Cheshire Oaks and Chester Zoo. Would definitely stay again for a couple of nights if up that way again.

We decided to camp at a local site when our wedding was cancelled due to COVID-19. We booked here for food on the night we should’ve been hosting our friends & family and what a great decision it was! After ordering our food the chef (whom was also the owner) came to see us as he was aware of the situation and offered us a meal that wasn’t on the menu (sirloin steak, hand cooked chips, mushrooms, tomatoes etc.) along with surprising us with bubbles to accompany a great meal. Afterwards we had the chef’s special chocolate dessert which was also delicious. Staff were very attentive and owners were nothing short of fantastic and made what was a down day due to losing our wedding day very special. We will be back and plan to camp onsite too.

AWFUL. 4 mums all in our 30s and a group of children all under 10. We sat outside as there was a big group of us. It started to rain so the children got an umbrella to put up, a few bugs fell out so they panicked one off us mums helped to put the other up. As doing so a small angry bald man (found out he is the owner) came storming out, shouting ‘those umbrellas are down for a reason” we said it’s raining so we’re putting them up and he said I’ve been watching you on CCTV, we responded with ok it’s raining so we’re putting them up for us and the children on that table too, he continued to shout at us and said you wouldn’t do that at home don’t do that here 😤 all shocked beyond belief we said don’t speak to us like that especially in front of our children! He stormed away back inside and said come inside we said we didn’t want to sit inside and will be getting a refund. We went back into the pub and again said sit in here. We said no we’re getting a refund and he said oh well I don’t care. We asked a young girl behind the bar if he always did this and she said he doesn’t like kids? We had just come from the ice cream farm which is close by so not great really is it!! A lady came to give us a refund. And I’d like to add it was only the two young girls who said sorry to us. We then went to the black dog which is about 5 minutes away and wow what a difference in service from the get go. I hate leaving bad reviews especially in the current economy but I can’t quite believe how bad we have been treated.

We called here after visiting the nearby Ice Cream Farm (also worth a visit) with our 3 year old son. We were made to feel exceptionally welcome and the staff could not do enough for us and were so friendly with our little one. Food was exceptional for a lunchtime menu with it being tasty, fresh and excellent value for 3 good sized meals (so large we couldn’t finish them) and 5 drinks coming in around £45 Our son was even treated to an ice cream free of charge once he woke from a contented full tummy doze on one of the comfy sofas. There are many other places around this pub however I cannot recommend the Carriages enough.

High chair given straight away. The chef came up to us and asked what he could make for our baby, and made him a little plate of fish finger, mash and peas! As he is so small a plate of food would have been too much. He preceded to make this for him while the rest of us decided what to have so he didn't have to wait so long! We went there to try the steaks because we had heard they were really nice. We waited 45 mins +. When the food eventually arrived and after being told there were no sauces available we were served what we thought were 2 medium rare rump steaks. We were in fact served an extremely well done steak and a rare steak. After sitting for a while we were asked how the meal was we told the waitress we were not too happy with what we had been served. The owner/chef came out to ask a few questions, I told him that it wasn't what we expected and asked if it could be discounted, he was extremely rude and took no accountability and took offence about the feedback we had given him after showing him the difference in the colour in the steaks we had been served. He eventually told us not to pay for it and told us to get out. We didn't have to pay for the meals, however when we left a friend of ours have told us that he said we were never welcome back at his restaurant and he said some not very nice things about us. I would recommend this restaurant to no one and after working there for 4 years when I was younger I was quite embarrassed to have taken her there.

I recently made a provisional booking for a weekend in November to attend a family function. At that time wasn't sure of the dates. A few days later confirmed dates with family and phoned hotel to confirm my dates. A very blunt speaking person said "we are closed. Had a busy weekend with a car fest". My thought was why answer the phone then. I waited a couple of days and phoned again and asked for the female member of staff I had originally spoken to. I was told by the previous male person to phone back after 4 pm. As I was unable to I asked if he could deal with my enquiry and was told " no I am in the kitchen ". At that stage I decided not to stay at or use that establishment ever again. What a way to treat a customer. Hope he has a very successful business. But not with my money.

Having relocated from abroad, new to Cheshire, my husband and I are keen to get out and explore the many wonderful pubs and restaurants. We have started close to home which we now call Tattenhall. It was a beautiful summer day's afternoon and a Friday and what better than to drive up the road to Carriages - the stunning Georgian house which rests in rambling grounds. Picnic tables scattered about the lawn, campers slowly enter the campsite with caravans and tents and Diane and Paul, a couple who clearly love hosting, come out, all smiles to meet them. It is a perfect haven at Carriages. The landlord and landlady, Diane and Paul are also well traveled and have spent the last two years putting Carriages, their B and B, pub, restaurant and campsite on the map, just outside Tattenhall. You could not wish for lovelier hosts. Friendly and welcoming shadowed by Millie and Summer, their two cocker spaniels they are not short of customers both local and from afar. My husband and I brought our three dogs who could freely stroll around the many lawns and roam safely. We sipped Prosecco in the sun and sampled the extensive and very varied menu. We began with four different starters:.chicken goujons, goats cheese and beetroot filo tarts, Stilton stuffed mushrooms and game Terrine. What a start! Excellent food. Service swift and friendly. Three hours later we stayed and sampled Paul's recommendation. I am a vegetarian so he recommended the vegetable bake with mashed baby new potatoes and salad. My husband was recommended the steak with chunky chips and salad. Both main courses were tasty. The puddings were to die for! I have had many sticky toffee puddings but this one is a must try! The chocolate delice was also a chocoholic's heaven! Feeling stuffed on really tasty, well presented good pub food we have no question or hesitation in telling everyone to get on down to Carriages. It was a beautiful afternoon and evening in the sun but equally families and couples were dining in the relaxed bar area and if you so wish for white linen table cloths dining there is a restaurant too! We will be ambling down for the Sunday lunch this afternoon not just for good food but because the hosts Paul and Diane are a great asset and addition to pubs in the area. You can't but want to chat with them.

Every year for the last twenty years, we as a group have been holidaying together for a long weekend. As it was our turn to organise the venue, we were somewhat apprehensive as we can never be sure it will meet with everyone's approval. IT DID!!Eight caravanners and four B & B visitors were more than happy with the facilities and food. Diane and Paul made us very welcome and Andrea added to the entertainment with our evening meals. So many thanks from us all x

Booked on website & on arrival exceeded all expectations. Allocated substantial pitch for camper van & awning with electric hook up. Paul ensured we had everything we needed. Facilities more than adequate with nice hot showers & clean toilets. 8 of us ate here for Sunday lunch, food was outstanding & plentiful all served by the delightful Andrea who couldn't do enough for us. Diane & Paul were very sociable & even joined us for a drink at the end of our meal. They've got this just right, fab food, friendly staff, comfortable bar area & excellent camping facilities. Many thanks for your hospitality & a special thanks to Andrea for your rhubarb crumble, it was delicious. Looking forward to a return visit.

Looks lovely from the outside but the inside could do with an upgrade. The service however was excellent and the food was just great. Lots of the plates in our group were totally cleaned not because there wasn't enough but because it was so good. \the prices were very reasonable for the area. Strongly recommend unless you're looking for a sophisticated environment.

We went to Carriages for lunch today for the first time with five friends, and I am sure probably caused them problems when two of the party were unavoidably held up and arrived later than we had said. Nevertheless the food was delicious and the staff attentive and friendly. My liver and bacon in a gorgeous onion-y sauce, served with mashed potatoes and garden peas, was very simple but extremely filling and enjoyable. I have decided that I just haven't got room for any supper tonight... and you can't have a bigger compliment to the chef than that!

We were greeted immediately with the warmest of welcomes and they made such a fuss of our 3 year old girl. Nothing was too much trouble. Very reasonably priced and the food was presented, and tasted, amazing. What I loved most was they have a games cupboard - we sat playing cards while we enjoyed a drink and waited for our meal (which wasn't long at all) It was a nice change from us all just sat flicking on our phones.!! Will definitely be back next week and will be booking for a birthday next month. All in all a lovely pub with lovely food and lovely owners. Definitely worth a visit.

Last summer we visited the local Ice Cream Farm and called in here for a drink as it was a lovely summers day.We sat in the beer garden and chatted to the co-owner.Anyway,a couple of weeks ago we decided to call in again just for a drink with a view to booking an overnight stay in the future. The co-owner,with a fag in his hand, came rushing out explaining they were full and unable to serve us.There were two people in the beer garden! We found it unbelievable that they would turn away business.Anyway,we moved on to the Cheshire Cat in Christleton, where we had a lovely relaxing drink in THEIR beer garden which was extremely busy.We will never bother with this establishment again.Very unprofessional.

Carriages could not have got Mothers Day more right! After a warm welcome we were seated very comfortably in the lovely sunny lounge with drinks brought to us immediately. The establishment was clearly busy but we were not kept waiting long at all to be seated at our table where our food arrived quickly (particularly considering it is all cooked fresh to order!) As usual, the food was all delicious (I have to say that the combination of their home made chocolate delice with champagne sorbet and salted caramel sauce is a work of genius!) and all the staff on duty were attentive, friendly and very professional. There was a real sense of occasion at Carriages today, they really hit the right note and I cannot imagine a more pleasant setting for a celebration of this kind. Sincere thanks to everyone at Carriages for making Mothers Day so delightful for both the mums in our party!

We have just returned from a lovely 4 day break staying at Carriages campsite in our motorhome. We ate in the pub every day. The food is fantastic, homemade, beautifully cooked & served with a flourish by Andrea. Paul was very welcoming, remembered the wine we liked & made sure we settled in happily. The dogs were welcomed too & had the run of a field next to our spacious pitch. There are showers/ toilets, clean & free. All in all a super place with everything we needed & a lovely welcome from owners & staff alike. We will be going back. Thank you Carriages.

Had a lovely family meal here, it was organised at short notice but Carriages fitted the 12 of us in. From the minute we stepped through the door to when we left we were all looked after very well. The staff were so helpful and couldn't do enough for us, even taking time to set the kids up with toys and crayons and prepare a doggy bag for the dog. The meals were really tasty, my fish and chips were delicious. Many Thanks for looking after us so well we had a lovely time, we will definitely be back.

Wonderful welcome, service and food excellent. However .... I like dogs ...... but not wandering around my legs when I am eating, they really have no place where people are eating. Really sorry to say this but a lovely evening was spoilt by this.

Let me start by saying that this place was (on the whole) not bad. Yes, the décor is in need of updating and no, the food is not cutting edge in any way but it represents good value for a 70's style pub-grub place. If they had spent as much attention to the offering as they clearly have to the website, this place would be a winner. We booked solely on the basis of the website which gives an altogether different image of what will be on offer and if what we got resembled this in ANY way, I would be giving the place rave reviews. My experience was, as I imagine, like looking at a brochure for a Range Rover and ordering the same. However, on the day you go to collect the shining 4X4, the salesman tosses you the keys to a 20 year old Diahatsu 4 Trak. Both of which are great vehicles but somewhat different in style.

My wife and I went here for a Valentine's meal. The whole experience was excellent. Our food was cooked to perfection. We had fish cakes for a starter and then beef wellington as a main course What makes this place special is not just the food though it's the friendliness of Paul and Diane who make this place stand out. There is nowhere quite like it anywhere.

Went early (5 ish) on a Friday, recommended by friends. The welcome is great and the service excellent. We were the only ones there for at least an hour, but the standard of food was excellent! May come back sometime and stay on the campsite! Not too sure about the dogs wandering about the restaurant though...we found it a bit off-putting....but I'm sure dog-lovers will think we are daft!

We stayed on the campsite for one night and went into the bar for a meal before the fireworks (free firework display which was great). Both myself and my husband had a starter and a mean course. The starters were lovely and the mains were even better. I had the fish and chips and my husband had the mixed grill. The fish was lovely and fresh and the mix grill was a cracking size which even filled my husband up, which believe me is usually a task and a half. The ladies serving the food were lovely and friendly, the whole bar area just seemed to be a really nice local bar that also made visitors feel welcome. They were selling burgers and hot dogs before the fireworks, I just wish I had enough room to have one. Would definitely visit again.

I am staying at BW for work and booked dinner at Hilltops on my first night. I was initially nervous that there didn't appear to be anything suitable for vegans on the menu, but I double checked with the receptionist, who was very helpful and communicated my request to the restaurant. This was a short-notice request, so I was not expecting much, but the chefs went above and beyond. The tofu & veg curry was really tasty, and the choc fudge cake was delicious. I couldn't eat it all in one sitting, but the team prepared the leftovers for me to take to my room and eat later. Thank you to the talented kitchen team and wonderful front of house team at Hilltops!

We were visiting the Anderton Boat Lift which is just 10 minutes down the towpath from The Moorings. As the coffee shop there was quite full after the boat trip we decided to try somewhere else close by. The Moorings is a little gem of a place, run by chefs, so expect hotel like presentation of excellent food, which is worth waiting for. This is a totally different dining experience from the usual canal side cafe. Dogs are allowed inside on the hard floor area, but we sat outside with ours as it was a beautiful day and we could admire the canal boats in the marina.

Uns gefällt das Ambiente aus den 70er Jahren. Wie eine Zeitkaplsel. Dazu die freundliche Bedienung. Gut für einen Boxenstopp.
