We had a lovely time here. Jane our waitress was excellent. Nothing was too much. The chef even fixed the birthday cake that had fallen apart on journey. Thank you

Some of the nicest food we have had in a while, made all the better by the fantastic and friendly service from Jane who was super nice to us and even nicer to our dog. The prices are great and the pub is very dog friendly in the doggy part of the restaurant which is spacious and clean. Looking forward to going back near Christmas after the refurb.

stopped for midweek lunch knowing nothing about the restaurant we were blown away about every dish we had in particular the curried cauliflower and coconut soup was amazing. all the food was really fresh well cooked and served piping hot. add to that the staff were great and our waitress Jane, charming and expert. even more amazing was that the great dishes were part of their set lunch deal cannot recommend enough.

i always have a good meal here, until yesterday. It still was, except for the roast potatoes. they were hard and difficult to cut through. Also, no mash potatoes either. I don't understand red cabbage (I don't like it) being very tender and on the plate, and the greens being hardly cooked and in a dish. Either place all the veg on the plate or in a dish. After saying that the rest of the meal was fine, the mini pudding was delightful, and the staff very friendly and pleasant.

Called for Sunday lunch. Food took a little while but so worth the wait Vegetables were freshly cooked , meal was hot and nicely served. Staff were friendly and polite. Gluten free wasn’t a problem. Nice sized portions. Nothing to complain about and another visit is definitely on the cards.,

Firstly the staff are superb. The place is nice and clean, spacious and bright. There are a decent selection of beers and lagers. The food, l have to say they for what you get it is vastly overpriced.My partner asked for scampi and chips with salad instead of pease. No dressing on the salad. It arrived covered in dressing. Thankfully this changed immediately. I had the fish, chips and peas. Mine upon arrival be described as fish, peas, half chips and half scraps. Fish was good, peas look warm, the chip scraps well they were chip scraps. It’s hard to get a portion of chips wrong but, the chef managed it. The young lady who served me apologised and adjusted the bill accordingly. Thank you. But for that we would have had desserts, we were just put off by what we had. Lastly do not get the small portions. We didn’t buy my word thank goodness we didn’t. The portions are so small.

Food and service was fab would definitely return from start to finish all was great. My waitress was very good sadly never got her name but was very good.

The venue was nicely kept and had a lovely atmosphere for catching up. The food was good portions and tasted great! Our waitress Corinne was lovely - she made our meal but also our day with her energy!! Not only did she make sure we had brilliant efficient service but also went the extra mile for us to ensure our meal was great.

The four of us has a lovely time here on Friday afternoon. The pub itself has a warmth and charm to it, making it an ideal spot for a chill time with an excellent range of dishes on offer. The roast ciabatta of the day was Turkey on our visit, which we all opted for, and was a generous portion, cooked brilliantly. The staff were welcoming, helpful and attentive, adding to the experience.

All staff are absolutely lovely, warm and welcoming. Not my first visit and certainly won’t be my last! The food selection was amazing with something for everyone, including the children’s menu. Everything tasted so fresh and delivered in good time. homemade brownie was delicious/ can’t wait to come back.

Everywhere was clean and tidy. Menu offered a wide variety. Service was really good. Food was excellent. Could not have wished for more. Superb value. Not the first visit and certainly won’t be the last.

Absolutely love Sunday lunch here it’s my favourite place but have to say today I was disappointed as the dinner was luke warm but still a lovely dinner, I did mention it to staff in the hope they pass it on and they serve the Sunday dinners a lot warmer to other customers as if it was my first time there I wouldn’t return, so next time I will say piping hot please

Booked in March but were given a small table by the door of the restaurant which looked as though we were squeezed in was asked for a deposit which was not taken off our bill had to return for a refund meal and entertainment was good

Very impressed with the quality of the meals presented to us, the food was well presented and hot. Food was a bit slow in arriving but that could be down to the pressure on the kitchen. Overall it was a good afternoon and I would return in the near future.

All the staff were absolutly lovely. Food was a bit of a let-down. Ploughman's lunch was bland and beige. Large scampi and chips was definitely not large. All a tad over priced considering the quality and portion sizes. The worst value has got to be the coffee and mini dessert offer. £7.95 for a decent coffee and a minute serving of chocolate brownie. A bif of a swizz.

I came with my grandparents for a meal on Saturday. Corrinne our waitress really looked after us and made it a lovely experience. She was very attentive and looked after my elderly grandmother. She was bubbly and smiley and we need more people like her in the world! Great food and great service. Thanks corrinne!! Happy Easter

Came in for a Sunday roast recently and couldn’t fault it - the food was beautiful and all homemade. Service was excellent too - despite being busy the staff were very welcoming and friendly. Will definitely be returning!

Very fatty Beef, BOTH roast potatoes were soft and bland in taste, luke warm meal not worth the price. Won’t be returning.

This has been our favourite 'go to place' for Sunday dinner for a number of years with service and food having always been excellent. However more recently we have noticed portion sizes differing from one adult plate to another. But more importantly (and a firm favourite) the roast potatoes have been undercooked, tasteless and are more of a frozen reheated variety. We have mentioned this to staff and a sincere apology has been received with a replacement, but sadly this has been just a deep fried version of the same. Please please return to how you use to make your delicious roasties and ensure your adult portion sizes are the same.

We had the roast dinner which looked lovely, the service was excellent but the restaurant is swarming with flies, this put us off our food.

The food and service were very good, sadly the experience was spoiled by the presence of a large number of flies constantly buzzing around our food. This need to be sorted before we’ll be returning.

So happy that the Hornsmill is open again! The Sunday roast was delicious. They always offer a great menu selection, especially as being a veggie having a great choice is not always a given. The service was great, look forward to our next visit!

Despite the COVID restrictions we had a fabulous lunchtime experience. The food was exceptional, and nicely presented. The staff as always could not be faulted for turnout or customer service.

Had many lovely meals here. Went this afternoon very disappointed. My husband had fish and chips which were both overdone. I had a burger. Usually one large burger today two thin burgers usually proper chips today skinny fries although not surprised after seeing my husbands well done ones.

From start to finish excellent service. Pleasant, friendly, prompt service. Clean, tidy, organised eating area. Food was fabulous. First visit out for us in over a year and Linda our waitress made it a thoroughly enjoyable experience

Really enjoyed our visit after lockdown. We are regular patrons and sometimes the food can be less than spectacular but last night’s food was outstanding. The spicy chicken starter I had was really good and the duo of lamb exceptional. The accompanying mash was gorgeous. Excellent glass of Shiraz went really well with the lamb so had another. My wife really enjoyed her fish starter and bacon steak. Service was excellent particularly our server. Lovely evening.

Went to the Hornsmill for the first time tonight and we weren’t disappointed! The whole experience from start to finish was a breath of fresh air! The meals and service were perfect in every way! I had the lamb and my partner had the beef and ale pie and both meals were just divine. Service from Rach H in particular was second to none but all of the staff were welcoming and pleasant. Just had a lovely meal at The Hornsmill. We were well looked after by Linda who was friendly,professional and with a sense of humour.

We was greeted and served with a great service. Linda was exceptional in making our dinning experience relaxed and at ease. Will Definitely be eating there again and Linda’s service was above and beyond

Came on Tuesday for something to eat after shopping on the Cheshire oaks I have to say we've not been since it changed over and what a lovely place and the food and service were excellent all the covid guidelines are in place to make you feel safe.We were served by Rachel lovely pleasant lady and a big smile with short hair she is a credit to you.We will be back

All measures in place, a friendly and warm pub.The whole place was inviting and extremely spacious so we felt safe dining here.The service was friendly and attentive.I had fish and chips which was lovely, my other half had trio of sausage which was very nice.We will definitely return here when able.

The Hornsmill is a great place to eat. The restaurant is very spacious and you feel very safe, which is very reassuring. Right from the start the staff are very attentive and don’t come across as clinical. Adam who served us was especially good. The food came quick and was very good. We will definitely be back when next in the area.

Very good meal served by Sarah. Delicious tuna and prawn salad, excellent sea bass with prawn risotto. Wine was good value. Roscoe the dog complained there were no dog treats, but he was made very welcome!

Come for a late dinner on the 20/10/20,had the chicken supreme was lovely. And sticky toffee pudding and custard for desert all lovely, was served by rach k was was very friendly, just a shame the pub was almost empty people need to get out and help businesses, well done the Helsby!!

Visited for lunch with my mum after walking the dog up helsby hill.We’d never been before and just stumbled upon it and we were so happy we did! Amazing food and service. Great fixed price menu and the staff were very nice and the dog friendly area was so spacious. Our dog is quite nervous normally so having so much space was great for her and we felt very safe as well with their covid measures with all tables distanced.Will definitely be back!Thankyou so much

Excellent food and service from Jem best Sunday lunch in the area would highly recommend. Desserts are also great and the portion sizes are excellent value for money.

This is the second time we have been here and must say will be looking forward to return again. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with plenty of seating, food is excellent we had small plates again but ordered too much with the trio of pate, button mushrooms, baked camembert, spicy fried chicken and side orders of garlic bread and salad, all very filling! would like to thank Adam who looked after us, will see you again soon (hopefully)

A very good lunch with friends. A good lunch menu - good variety and a very good price. The place is well maintained and decorated. The food was very good and well presented. The staff were really excellent and very professional and efficient. Covid rules very well observed.

We had left our holiday home in North Wales and on our route home booked a table at the Hornsmill with my wife and small dog ,we were greeted in a nice friendly manner and sanitatised on entry we ordered the mixed pate starters that was OK and shared that I then had the cheese and onion pie and chips that was fantastic and my wife had the corn fed chicken she's said was beautifuly cooked and tasted lovely we had a Irish cream creme Brule which was delicious washed down with a real ale and prosecco, felt safe all the time the girl who served us was lovely and professional well worth another visit soon

Lovely meal in a relaxed surrounding. The food was superb, all four of us enjoyed the soup for starter, the lamb mains was superb, tuna steak with prawns was very good, corn fed chicken was excellent and the fish n chips was great too. All round excellent food.

We came in for drinks and ended up having tea in the bar as Sarah was able to look after us very well. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and excellent level of service. Only improvement we would suggest is to have a sorbet or fresh fruit dessert available for children with milk allergies/intolerances. Love the food and atmosphere at the Hornsmill.

I enjoyed a catch up dinner with 2 friends last night at Hornsmill and I was super happy! The choice of food was really good, the food itself was really nice and good portion sizes, staff were really helpful. In particular our waitress Linda was so lovely! I have never been to this area before and i thought it was a really lovely pub. It had a great atmosphere and the staff on arrival were friendly. There was a lot to choose from on the menu and the meal I had was delicious. I’d like to say a special mention to LINDA who provided outstanding customer service throughout the whole night to me and my friends. It was so nice to see that this particular staff member enjoys her job and enjoys providing great service. I definitely will be returning!

people60TH Birthday Surprise for my husband . 25 people , at 5 to a table / Sunday Roast , fantastic. A big thank you to Roy and the team who made it possible , also the attention to detail with the balloons and extras I had taken . Amy , waited on our tables and was very good , nothing was too much trouble for her , 10 out of 10 , thank you all . Several people in the group hadn’t been there before and we’re very impressed with the food.

Went for a quick lunch with my mum, Roy and his team looked after us brilliantly! Drinks fast and food was delicious! Definitely recommend the Duo of Lamb!

We really enjoyed the visit so it feels a bit mean to have a pop at the food. The pub is lovely, well laid out, and the service was also good. Unfortunately the food (we were there for a weekday lunch) didn't quite match. All of us had something that we left. In my case, the bread that the fish finger sandwich was made of was too hard to eat.

Delicious food in a safe and relaxing atmosphere. Really enjoyed our visit. Our server Linda was so welcoming and obliging well done Linda.

Dined here with family on 31st August. Food and quality of service was excellent. Would highly recommend the Sunday roast sharing platter. Our waitress Abbie was helpful and gave attentive customer service.

On our way up to Chester, we called in...HUNGRY.Both has Fish and Chips...one of those highly priced 18 chips....small fish....mushy peas in a pot...tarter sause in another pot fulling the plate where more food should be...nice but expensive

Called into this restaurant on the way home after a dissapointing day in Chester and I must say we were certainly Not dissapointed here. The service was excellent and the food brilliant. It was mid afternoon when we arrived so we didnt want large portions so we opted for the small plates, we decided that 3plates would be ample for the two of us and we were very much impressed with the size of the portions. The button mushrooms where to die for! the trio of pate was quite large lots of pate with bread we also had the chicken skewers with a side salad. I could not eat any more but my husband had the apple pie and custard and he said it was lovely. Would like to say a thank you to Jemina who looked after us, will certainly return here.

We were impressed by most of the Covid precautions taken by the restaurant, plenty of sanitiser available, track and trace in place, tables, chairs, salt, pepper and vinegar all sanitised between guests, however I would’ve felt more comfortable if the staff had worn masks.We ate off the three course set lunch menu which we thought was excellent value.We had prawns and mango for a starter, fishcakes for the main course and Eton Mess for dessert.The meal was very nice and excellent value.

Family of four visited for a later night bite to eat. The pub had a nice vibe and a good atmossphere. We chose from the young adults menu/lighter bites menu and one two course child’s meal.. well I did not expect a over flowing plate obviously choosing the light small portion option but I also did not expect to spend near enough £10 for a plate of chips! Two of the meals where the lighter bite steak and I can only describe them as postage stamp size and the is no joke! one bite and the steak was gone so basically the only part of the meal which took more than a second to eat was an onion ring and a few fries! The children’s meal portion was larger’! When addressing this with the waitress as I assumed there must have been some sort of mix up she was rude abrupt and unhelpful.! One of the lighter bite meals was completely wrong but to be fair was sorted quickly such a shame as the steak was very tasty but not enough of it I can not stress enough of how small a lighter bite portion is so be aware when choosing the steak.

Came here on the 20th of August at 7 30.. the food was excellent I had the fish and chips and scallops, my partner had the hornsmill burger both where outstanding.. its a little expensive but the quality reflects the price overall it was excellent

Visited yesterday as a family of 4, felt very safe and fantastic covid precautions.Meal was excellent and I would highly recommend the duck main course...Our waitress Jem was excellent, great customer service and knowledge of the menu and suggested alternatives for my wife who was stuck on choosing a starter.Already looking forward to our next visit!

Food was ok (mainly starters, mains were a bit disappointing) but service was really poor. We waited over 30 min for our main and we have to get someone to check what was going on. When they arrived they weren’t cooked properly as chips were hard and underdone.Also we were charged for a pint that was for the table behind (they nearly brought it to us but customers behind and ourselves advised it was for them).We won’t be going back.

The food is good, presented well and the portion sizes are more than adequate. We were served by a lady called Linda who greeted us in such a friendly manner and was very attentive. She was very informative regarding the menu and couldn't do enough for us, and because we felt comfortable we returned the following evening as we were staying close by. Would definitely recommend.

This is the first visit that me and my husband have made to The Hornsmill. It will not be the last. Our food was amazing, made even better with them having a gluten free menu for myself. The Duck Breast that I had was absolutely lovely and tender. All the staff were really courteous and very helpful. We will be back again. Thank you again for making our meal lovely

went late afternoon today with some friends, everything was so lovely, especially the staff,all very pleasant in such difficult times for them. we all had different meals which were all really good then shared a desert platter,well recommended, a very hot afternoon so we asked can swop table to outside after meal, there was no problem at all, helped us out with drinks etc. definately be back soon. Also a lovely lady, mangeress i think, very good organizing tables for people,very cheerful.

Will 50% off ALL food and soft drinks, we three went for evening Rib Eye Steaks and some tinnies. Fabulous food, great staff and made very welcome. Great food and great night. Keep it up, top drawer restaurant.

Excellent service, very friendly & welcoming staff plus delicious food. We both had a Sunday roast & we couldn’t fault either of them. Piping hot & delicious with lots of gravy & huge Yorkshire puds. Despite being full we both were tempted by the dessert menu (banoffee pie & knickerbocker glory) that were equally as delicious. Our dog was pleased to receive a bowl of water & a biscuit bone that he devoured in seconds too . A great place to visit & we’ll definitely be back again Thank you Roy & team

My husband and I came here today for an afternoon meal. It was 2pm and still plenty of customers. The lady who served us was exceptionally helpful and very easy to talk to. We had the set menu and it was fantastic value for money. My drink never got to empty and I just loved the waffle with caramelised bananas to finish off between us. Thank you so much to the team. X

Staff without masks or shields no social distancing in the bar area table even though pre-reserved hadn't been cleaned . Staff serving food no masks . Not sure the management are taking the customers or staffs safety seriously during this worrying time . Very disappointing as we are regulars definitely wont be rushing back !!!!!!

The food was excellent, very impressed with gluten free provision, in fact my husband says it was one of the best gluten free meals he has had when dining out .
