1699 Brasserie in Cheshire West and Chester

Just had afternoon tea to celebrate our anniversary. The food was delicious and the staff were outstanding. The dining room was warm and cosy. Altogether a memorable anniversary treat.

As per cheshire post, it's says it's undergoing 250k overhaul. The truth..... The Home office has paid for the full use of the hotel for Migrants. WE WILL NOT BE COMING HERE AGAIN..... We only support our brittish buisnesses, not government sell outs who are helping the down fall off brittain !.

Used a voucher and was very easy to redeem online to book date and time. Easy to find and welcomed at the door. Decided to eat afternoon tea outside in covered area. Lovely decorations very unique. Excellent afternoon tea, very tasty and good portions. Lovely China cup and saucers for cups of tea. While there a thunderstorm and torrential rain occurred and staff were very quick to ensure we were moved inside and given a further pot of tea so felt very well looked after. Would recommend and will return.

Visited for Afternoon Tea with my Mum. Expecting a lovely garden setting after reading their website! Paying full price not with voucher, not that that should matter. We were really disappointed with the whole experience. Stone cold coffee, asked for some milk, waited 20 minutes and ended up having to ask again! Staff didn’t ask if we needed anything. We were just left sitting guessing when our food would arrive. When it did come, very average. Mustard piled on to a ham finger sandwich, same with pickle on a cheese finger. Not very tasty! Home made scone was lovely, apart from that, a few shop bought cakes, really basic food, average surroundings, and overall not the best afternoon! Sorry Chester Townhouse, we wouldn’t visit again!

Cocktails and wine with the girls. Very quirky outdoor seating area. Large spaced out area, ideal for drinks or food. We just had cocktails, wine and gin. Lovely atmosphere. Great choice of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. Nicely presented and reasonably priced

Decorated to a high standard. The drinks were very expensive though. The seating outdoors also offers some seats under cover

I went with my boyfriend and we waited HALF AN HOUR for a cocktail each which never came. We ended up having to leave. We asked the staff about it and they explained that the bar was super busy — there was a hen-do that seemed to be getting all the attention. The decor is lovely so it’s a real shame, but service was pretty shocking. I’ve never waited half an hour for a drink in my life :’) unlikely to return.

Booked afternoon tea to celebrate friend’s engagement. I left a note when booking online to let them know in advance that it’s a celebration for my friend. They provided nothing special, not even a small chocolate plate or whatsoever. Food was okay, but decorations and atmosphere were tacky. They brought the bill but never came back to our table. Overall, this place is overrated.

I have to say this is probably one of the nicest Sunday lunches we’ve had for a long long time . Pâté and filo pastry prawns we had for starters were amazing as was the roast beef and the roast pork we had for the main course . With the Groupon deal you could only have really the carvery which I didn’t understand as some of the others on the menu were cheaper !! anyway , that said no real issues the mains were fabulous. The place was really busy and had a good atmosphere . The service from Ryan and the others was great and nothing was too much trouble , & we most certainly will be back - Groupon or no Groupon as it was that good . If I could leave any comment then it would be that apple sauce should be offered with the pork and not really an afterthought

We had a voucher for an Afternoon Tea, which seems to be the common theme here! The staff were so disinterested and simply slapped the food down, no one came back to check on us and asked how things were. The surroundings look nice online but in person they looked fake and very tacky! The flamingos are vile and the fake ivy is just really unappealing 🤯 The seating was too squished together and the food itself was poor. 4 finger sandwiches and 2 beetroot wraps of warm tuna between two, two small hard scones and some weird tasting little cakes on top. Honestly so glad we only paid the reduced price! Would not recommend this at all, there are tons of other venues in Chester to choose from and I wish we had picked somewhere else. Rubbish! 👎

After looking forward to using our voucher kindly given to us. To our dismay 😞 we were sadly very disappointed. After serving a tea a coffee then a cake stand of what we can only describe as unsatisfactory food,there no contact from staff at all. There were two finger slices of sandwich portion,the bread was damp to touch,a wrap which was wet with tuna filling. The éclairs had warm sloppy cream inside. Shop maroons. Scones were very dense. What appeared like a form of pork pie was hard and very dry. All must have been prepared hours before we arrived and not kept refrigerated appropriately. We had to attract staff attention for another tea and coffee. Unfortunately our experience was appalling. Our Afternoon tea did not resemble any of the photographs shown. We left After about 30 minutes. Other customers did arrive and were offered an Afternoon tea menu we can only assume this was a different selection and hopefully a better standard of food and not on a voucher offer. We didn't eat the food as we were disgusted to the point we may have been unwell afterwards. We would not recommend to buy a voucher for anyone.

we ordered the afternoon tea for 3 people ,we had 4 triangle mixed sandwiches each,1 scone with small pot of jam each ,a 2" square of battenberg cake ,a thin slice of swiss roll with slice of strawberry,and square of jelly on,and a caramel tart,1 pot of clotted cream which we asked to change as it was to sour ,came back just the same so left it.and pot of tea each, could of fit it all on a side plate,£64 for 3 of us .very over priced had a lot more for cheaper.

We booked a table for pre-dinner cocktails for a friends birthday on a Saturday afternoon . We had a really enjoyable time, the venue is really unique and has a great atmosphere. The range of cocktails was good and the staff were really accommodating and super friendly. Thank you, the visit here made a memorable afternoon with friends. Would recommend

Beautiful venue with not only efficient staff but who were genuinely friendly too. We were greeted like old friends as we enjoyed a wonderful selection of cocktails in the summer sun. A special shout out to Nicola who as always, went above and beyond. Thank you

I left booking a table for my birthday celebrations quite late and in hopes they had a table left, messaged the Secret Garden on Instagram, they got back to me and booked my table. Upon arrival we were greeted by numerous members of friendly and happy staff and we were shown to our lovely table where I was given a birthday card and told to order a drink on them which just added to the night as it was a lovely, unexpected touch. There were four of us and we only had drinks but stayed there for hours! It was great service, amazing drinks, helpful staff and a lovely setting! We’ll definitely be back again! Thank you

We had celebrated my dad's 60th birthday in May at the secret garden and everything was absolutely beautiful and so perfect, it was above and beyond our expectation. It was all pulled together by the wonderful event organiser, Frankie, who helped us plan the event just how we wanted it. She was incredibly friendly and helpful right from the beginning, she made us feel completely at ease especially since planning a 60th is no easy task and would always keep us updated throughout the preparation . The decorations, food and location was spectacular all of which was arranged by her, the other 2 members of staff who assisted on the night were also fantastic and made us all feel very welcome. It was a beautiful party and we will certainly be returning for future events.

Everything was perfect with this high tes purchased from Groupon. Food and drinks all good. Exceptional value. Every member of staff in the bar, restaurant and reception area thanked us when we left.

Me and my friends came for drinks on Friday and had the most amazing service all night , the garden was gorgeous and fully covered from the horrible weather. Are waitress Shannon gave us amazing service all night and made us laugh all night. Will definitely be returning soon :))

What can I say , absolutely brilliant place . Amazing staff- nothing too much trouble and the actual secret garden itself ...just wow . Gorgeous decor , gorgeous drinks and atmosphere was brilliant . All bar prices very reasonable and everywhere spotless and super friendly . Highly recommended . You won’t be disappointed.

We booked Secret Garden to celebrate my sisters birthday. We had never been before and had the best afternoon. We ordered a platter to share and added a few extras. The food was absolutely gorgeous. Had a bottle of Prosecco and some cocktails and had such a lovely time. Shannon served us and was absolutely brilliant. A credit to the company. She made us feel so welcome, was extremely attentive and so friendly. She ensured we always had a drink, recommended food for us and was a pleasure to be served by. This is one of the first times we have been out since Covid and Shannon made the experience extremely enjoyable. Thank you. We will definitely be back.

Had a lovely afternoon tea booked using a groupon voucher! Staff were very attentive and the garden is very well set out and comfortable even in the heavy rain that we had! Highly recommend! Great atmosphere and wide range of customers from couples to a Wedding party!

I came with my mum for an afternoon treat as she hasn’t been out due to covid & we couldn’t say a bad word! The staff were all so lovely especially Nuno who was our server and made sure everything was perfect, he is a credit to your team :)! The food itself was extremely filling! We are both cake-o-holics so we were definitely in our element. My mum felt really safe & comfortable in your setting as it was very Covid secure, with everyone spread out and a one way system in place. Overall we had an amazing experience & highly recommend! Thanks for a fabulous day, we will definitely be returning!

The place was great and service was spot on for most of our visit. Just one note - would recommend to avoid if want a non alcoholic drink, the selection is below par.

We booked here for brunch on a Sunday. On arrival we were brashly told that 'we had to he clear by 12' I understand there are constraints to bookings but this is no was to welcome guests. On arriving to our table it was laid for 2 when there were 3 of us and one set of cutlery was dirty. It took 10 minutes to be offered a drink, of which the fruit juices were evidently low quality and not chilled. My friend and I ordered the £15 breakfast package which included a continental option and a hot option. On arrival they had chucked both options onto one plate in a big to 'save on plates' (quote, this is the point I was inspired to write this review) the food was cold and of poor quality (the bread for the bacon sandwich evidently being hovis sliced (no offence to hovis of course) , the croissants were cold, small and from a packet with the butter being served still in the packet and the yougurt was a muller light from a multi pack. On complaining directly we found the staff to be standoffish and fairly confrontational. I must add the establishment was by no means busy at the time and was well staffed. Overall there needs to be a serious look at basic hospitality standards, pricing and selection of ingredients. Very disappointing and I fear for this business in a competitive environment. Will not come again.

Visited on a Sunday afternoon, first time here and certainly not the last, was welcomed in by fantastic professional staff and showed to our table outdoors, was informed on the civid 1 way rules ect, shortly after the great British weather did what it usually does on a may bank holiday and the heavens opened up, no need to panic within minutes a electric canopy was shielding all guests in that area followed by electric heating, this was fantastic customer care, other areas not as lucky as us soon had large parasols protecting them, now on to the main event food and beverages, couple we were with had to shared platter, pork and beef, looked amazing and nothing went to waste, myself and wife had roast beef and chicken, was fantastic my only gripe was my beef was in my eyes over cooked, but i suppose its down to each individual taste, roast potatoes absolutely fantastic. Drinks menu very very good indeed, we were saved by such a lovely girl called chloe, nothing was any trouble for her, thankyou you made our visit that bit more special, will be seeing you all soon love the Bartons and Griffiths

Town House Chester you are amazing ! We had a fabulous evening with friends on Saturday, from the moment we arrived and were greeted with a warm welcome and escorted to our seats in the Flamingo Corner in their beautiful Secret Garden . The atmosphere was wonderful and so were the delicious cocktails followed by our food. One of our friends is gluten free and she said her food was one of the best she’d had in Chester. We have since rebooked and can’t wait to return .Well done to the team at the Town House Chester and thank you

Absolutely loved my time here for my friends birthday. Becky and Nicola were so lovely, and made my friends birthday really special. We love you Becky!!! Will definitely be coming again, probably my new favourite place in Chester.

Then service we received from Shannon and Becky was absolutely incredible . They made the effort to give 100% service despite it being incredible busy. We came for a friends get together and loved it so much we booked for the next weekend. Lovely warm welcome from Kristina who explained the 'covid' aspects, table service, masks when walking around and the one way system for the toilets. Always appreciated. Nuno came over to explain the menu and chat (love this guy) and Bex was our main waitress. What a star!! She kept our drinks topped up and her recommendations were spot on. That girl knows her cocktails. Thank you for everything Bex. We shared 3 of the platters which were perfect for a social gathering and the food was such good standard. The atmosphere was lovely and the decor was so fab, everywhere you looked there was something else to enjoy / pose with. See you in a couple of hours with another set of friends, more lovely cocktails and food. Love you guys xx

A great place to eat and drink when the sun is shining. Friendly staff and our server Noonoo if that’s the correct spelling of his name was funny and prompt with our order. Definitely a place to visit when in Chester. I’m from Chester and only just discovered this great place. Definitely recommend.

Afternoon Tea treat first time out after long lock down excellent service from Nuno and beautiful tasty selection of savouries, scones and cakes. Well set up secret garden very clean and felt safe. Highly recommend.

What a beautiful venue, so very friendly and felt covid safe, from the moment we arrived and were welcomed at the door. We were a table of six served by Shannon & Becky. The atmosphere was lovely and relaxed. It was helped that we were in the garden in beautiful sunshine. We cannot wait to come back again. Looking forward to dining next time.

Booked afternoon tea via Groupon. We arrived a little late as we got lost however that wasn't a problem. Service was swift and the selection of savoury and sweet was good. The offer included a glass of fizz which we had to chase up as it wasn't forthcoming. Another niggle was no top up of coffee was offered. However it still turned out to be a relaxing couple hours of indulgence.

Excellent food and service, waitress was on hand but didn’t intrude. Would definitely go again. It was my mums birthday and they added a birthday banner to the table and brought out a cake.

Looking at the good reviews on here, I decided to book our usual Christmas get together (8 people). That was my first mistake! I enquired at the hotel if a deposit was required & received a very nice email stating a £10 deposit per person was required. Imagine my surprise when a month before we were due to dine I was sent another email stating they wanted our menu choices PLUS the rest of the balance! This was not mentioned at all at the time of booking as needless to say I would not have booked to go there.However, the menu looked very nice. My second mistake was expecting the food to be a good standard. The soup on offer looked just like wallpaper paste it was so thick & gloopy. Beetroot salmon gravadlax was two tiny little strips on a bed of hard potato salad. Turkey was quite nicely cooked but was accompanied by 2 very unroasted potatoes, vegetables, of which the sprouts were so hard a knife would not even cut them. My friend & I were really looking forward to our dessert, chocolate & lime torte. Service was so haphazard that we had to ask for it. Wish we hadn't bothered! The dessert we were presented with was a small, hard chocolate cupcake, that is the only way I can describe it, certainly not a chocolate torte by any stretch of the imagination! Absolutely appalling & any chef that would send that out to a customer needs to be told about it. I complained to the waitress who said I could have something else but after such a disastrous meal I was not going to chance it. I asked for a refund & she walked off. The impression given is that its Christmas & we probably would not notice after a few drinks. Wrong, as I am used to dining at 5* restaurants & have done very successful outside catering.Another quirky idea they have is for you to also order a drinks package with the menu. A few of us opted for the half bottle of wine package. We were given a large glass of wine (not a carafe as I expected). Only for the fact one of the party told the waitress we were expecting half a bottle, she said we would get another half glass afterwards! I had to ask her for mine as they seem to have forgotten about it. Bizarre!As stated previously, service was very haphazard, not many staff considering how busy it was. The bar was left unattended for short periods. They didn't seem to know who had ordered what to eat even though they had written our names down to match our original menu choices.The singer was far too loud & only sang a couple of Christmas songs which was also disappointing.We had to complain a second time about the dessert & eventually, the manager offered us our money back or another glass of wine, of which we had the latter.The only redeeming feature about this night was the venue itself & the lovely Christmas tree.

Hemos llamado antes a la Brasserie, una vez para tomar un café y otra para tomar una copa de vino y quedamos realmente impresionados. Queríamos un lugar realmente agradable y cómodo para llevar a un querido amigo a cenar y no podríamos haber elegido un lugar mejor. Disfrutamos de una noche encantadora, la comida era deliciosa (tarta de queso prosecco para morirse), simplemente no nos podemos quejar de nada. El personal nos hizo sentir bienvenidos, tuvo tiempo para conversar y se aseguró de que todo fuera de nuestro agrado. Nos vemos pronto, muchas gracias.

¡Algunos de los mejores servicios que he experimentado! He estado aquí para el té de la tarde con prosecco sin fondo un par de veces y no me puedo quejar de nada. Gran variedad de comida y un servicio maravillosamente atento. Incluso cuando hice la reserva, recibí una amable bienvenida y no dudaría en recomendar este lugar.

Relatively quiet but received excellent service and great quality lunch-time meal. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Even the chef joined for a chat! Thoroughly recommend.

Had an Excellent meal at “THE TOWNHOUSE “ first meal won’t be the last , wonderful building well laid out dining area , smart outside area , weather permitting, just a short walk to River Dee , also parking after 6pm. on main roads.

Visited the brasserie using a Groupon voucher for a 3 course meal. The service was professional and efficient, our waitress was kind and we didn't feel rushed to finish each course which was nice. Each course was tasty and the perfect serving size as by the end of the meal we didn't feel overwhelmingly full. The atmosphere was a little bit awkward as it was so quiet especially for a Saturday evening and with restaurant being fairly small. Overall, we had an enjoyable experience with an exceptional meal.

Had Teavelzoo voucher (£29) for 3 course meal for 2. Brilliant value for money???

My hubby and I had Sunday lunch today , we had a Travelzoo voucher cost apox £30 . Since we purchased the voucher the menu has changed dramatically, as I believe is well documented so won’t go there and on booking the receptionist did acknowledge with a little giggle that yep it’s changed. The room was beautiful and the staff friendly. 2 PM Sunday one if the starters was unavailable ok . We both ordered Sunday lunch , can’t remember what cut of beef was advertised but it was definitely not the tough shoe leather we were served . I have no objection to cheaper cuts of beef provide that they are cooked correctly and are edible. The beef was accompanied by a scant tablespoon of cold sauté?potatoes and a tea spoon of cold carrots .Two cold Auntie Yorkshire puddings completed the lunch . The plate was well presented and nicely garnished. Our voucher entitled us to 3 courses and Tbh we were both still a bit peckish . The Homemade cheese cake was not available , well it was 2 .45 on Sunday lunch service by then so obviously it had sold out . We had sticky Toffee pudding it was ok . Most of the people dining were having Afternoon Tea which looked very nice . So yep we had a voucher but still received poor value and would avoid at all costs .

Booked a romantic meal for my partner's birthday on our first trip to Chester. Shocking service, awful, undercooked potatoes, half the menu sold out, over priced, uninterested staff, waitress didn't even introduction herself, soulless, unromantic environment. Left feeling very disappointed after choosing this place on its reputation and reviews. They all clearly just wanted to go home as it was a Sunday evening. £45 quid very poorly spent, especially after walking past all the other, vibrant, busy and inviting looking resturants on our walk back to the hotel.

Unfortunatly I was disappointed by the menu and although the servers were lovely and friendly the main meal was quite basic.

5 of us visited yesterday and can honestly say it was superb from start to finish. Our waitress Suzy was fantastic, she was very friendly and made sure that we were looked after the whole time. Our table was inside but due to the weather we asked to be seated outside which was no trouble whatsoever. Food was delicious, I had the chicken goujons to start and the sirloin steak for main, both cooked to perfection and well presented. Big thanks to Suzy for the brilliant service we received, will definitely be back!

What an amazing experience we had!! Suzy the waitress was the best. I cannot remember the last time o had such fantastic customer service in a restaurant . It was sunny so she moved our table outside like it was no trouble at all even though she had clearly set a table for us inside. She was friendly and efficient. We were going to the moonlit flick in the park afterwards and she offered to give us some ice for our cool bag. Also note the restaurant take meerkat meals codes too. Price of food was fantastic values for money and my Sauvignon was beautiful. Would definitely recommend this restaurant and will be going back there soon! Suzy is an asset to this place and mad us want to come back!

We had a delicious set menu lunch for four here on Monday. The choice was excellent, the surroundings delightful and the service great. Definitely recommend.

After looking for somewhere special for our 31st wedding anniversary I found 1699 Brasserie and we weren’t disappointed. My husband loves sea bass so this is one of the main reasons I picked the restaurant, it was cooked to perfection, I always have chicken and that was lovely too. We decided to share a dessert and we had the homemade sticky toffee pudding with ice cream and it was divine!!! So light and melted in the mouth. We also decided on a bottle of Pinot Grigio to drink and to our amazement the Bar man took it off our bill as a gift for our anniversary!!!

Echoing some of the reviews on here already, I booked a table at 1699 with an expectation of fine dining and fresh food. What I got was a Harvester style menu at a higher price. I had the ribs and chicken wings which were ok. Staff were lovely but this wasnt what I was looking for for my wedding anniversary. Disappointed that the photos haven't been updated as that was what attracted me to book a table. There are many better restaurants locally, I wouldn't recommend this to anyone

I booked a table here with business guests from Canada. I booked it based on the reviews on tripadvisor, the pictures of the food, and the menu online which all looked and sounded excellent.

We visited this restaurant as a couple and had such a lovely time that we rebooked to take our visiting family. Although we were a party of nine the staff were just as attentive and we all enjoyed the delicious food. During our family visit the restaurant was busy and we did have to wait, however, we were constantly reassured that we had not been forgotten and it gave us more time to enjoy the attractive courtyard garden!

I visited the townhouse for dinner with a couple friends on a Monday night. The staff were very friendly and made us feel very welcome. The food was beautiful, we all had mushroom risotto and dessert. We sat outside for dessert and coffee. Couldnt be more pleased. Great atmosphere and well priced for what you get.

We had lunch at 1699 today I ordered the steak burger my brother orderd the chicken burger Wow good quality food and the friendliness of staff make us want to return again :)

Went with my husband on 10th July at lunchtime we had a voucher for 2 (three courses for 2 for£29.00) the meal was the best we have had in a long while sabastian and Justine were great would go again without a voucher it was a lovely day thank you

Wedding party, considered two other 5* locations but this proved to be the right choice.

Used this place for the first time on Saturday night and couldn’t have been more pleased. I made the booking for a group of friends and we all thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

The only problem with eating here is the fact we live nearby and haven’t been before. Our food today was faultless, nobody was disappointed with their meal, the chef and the waiting staff are first class, we will return and cannot wait to try out the entire menu. Today I had a meal which, when I describe it will sound quite ordinary, however, the presentation and quality of the ingredients together with the combination of flavours meant I have come away thinking Chester has a new centre of excellence. I had pate, followed by lamb and finished off with sticky toffee pudding and ice cream, perhaps I could be a little bit critical of the sticky toffee pudding as I would like to have ordered the cheesecake and it was unavailable, but, all in all the meal was such a treat in perfect surroundings, Suzi, our lovely waitress, offered a choice of sitting outside or indoors, we choose outside as the weather was perfect.....do not hesitate to eat here, don’t do what we have done so many times and walk on by, this restaurant deserves to thrive, if they keep the standards up and word spreads, then I am sure it will be difficult to get a table, so make sure you book sooner rather than later. I think we were put off calling in before because we thought you had to go down some steps into a sort of basement, the entrance isn’t that obvious, but we went in via The Townhouse hotel entrance and that is the way in, take that route and you can sit in the bar area to choose your meal and have a drink, it is beautifully furnished and decorated and the outside space at the back is a real plus in the good weather. Oh my where do I start? The food is delicious, the waiting staff welcoming and the decor calm and relaxing. I cannot praise this place too highly. The food is tasty and very good value.

One of our party of five for dinner was held up and the waitress waited until just before the kitchen to order dinner for him so that he didn't t go to bed hungry. Very patient. We all enjoyed an excellent meal. Certainly recommend it as one of many good restaurants in Chester

After being turned away from another premises close by because you had to book afternoon tea, two days in advance, which is ridiculous. We stumbled across this little gem. As we entered, we were greeted with a warm welcome and asked for afternoon tea, which they quickly accommodated. The manager was very nice and showed us to our table. We choose to sit in the courtyard, which was very nice with lovely decor and foliage. The afternoon Tea was fantastic and probably the best I've ever had. The sandwiches were first class, ranging from beef and horseradish to ham and mustard, couldn't fault it. The cakes were a cheesecake with a hint of ginger, tart citron, chocolate brownie and a lovely scone. The manager was very helpful and attentive, even offered us a blanket if it got cold. the sun even came out in the courtyard (sun trap)

Me and my mum visited the 1699 restaurant for afternoon tea this month and I can happily say we will definitely be visiting again! It was our 4th time having afternoon tea at 1699 and once again it didn’t fail to impress! The staff are lovely and go completely out of their way to satisfy your needs & the environment is lovely and relaxing. The afternoon tea is so filling, and definitely worth the money. The bottomless Prosecco was also a lovely extra! As soon as our glass was empty the lovely lady was straight on hand to refill our glass.

Had lunch in 1699 today. Beautiful food, friendly and attentive staff and a lovely garden area to sit in, what more could you ask for. We will be back.

Excellent dining experience. Superb service by the waiter and fantastic food (rib eye steak all round) and lovely Malbec wine. All served promptly and at a very reasonable price - steak and red wine offer on a Tuesday evening.

We pre-booked this for afternoon tea on a Saturday after reading reviews on tripadvisor. This building is a converted house and tea is served in a room at the rear. The decor is a bit drab and the room feels a little uninviting but we were first to arrive at 12:30 and picked a table at the window. Little did we know then, we were the only customers for afternoon tea that Saturday. However our waitress was very attentive and immediately opened a fresh bottle of Prosecco. The tea itself was presented on a small double tiered slate tray with a selection of sandwiches on the bottom tier with all the cakes and scones on the top. It was all very fresh, nicely presented and delicious. We had booked their Bottomless Proseco tea and our waitress ensured our glasses were never empty.

Having read all previous reviews we were really looking forward to dining here! Howeever, terrible service...terrible food! Saturday 27th April 2019...where do I start? The place was heaving when we arrived (a party of 4) at 7.15 pm. There was a very rowdy party of 6 on an adjacent table and clearly they's had a "bit" to drink but at least they seemed to be enjoying themselves. The restaurant had been booked by a very large party and so the staff were under some pressure. In my opinion they had taken too many table bookings. We ordered a bottle of Malbec but after a while the very apologetic waitress advised us that they had run out of Malbec. So, we ordered a bottle of cabernet sauvignon. After a further delay we were told they had also run out of cabernet sauvignon so we ordered a rioja and this time ...success! After some time the waitress took our food order...gin salmon gravlax...chicken liver parfait and Coquilles St Jacques to share between two...40 minutes later we had to ask where was our food? Finally arrived two starters OK but the Coquilles St Jacques was about the size of a small ashtray and the worst I have ever encountered. At £8.50 a throw very disappointing. After another very long delay our mains arrived Red mullet...disappointing. Pork fillet...OK...chicken...OK...lamb...totally over cooked...all vegetables very hit and miss, some nicely cooked others undercooked. Found a hair in the chicken dish at which point we had had enough and complained. To be fair to the waitress she was very apologetic and offered us pretty much 50% off the overall bill (inc drinks) so a good recovery and a commendable resolution. However, overall I think the kitchen and waiting staff had overstretched themselves which resulted in a very disappointing meal and ruined our evening. We will not be returning I'm afraid!

Friends booked in for meal. What a wonderful place it was amazing. Food was beautiful couldn’t ask for more wonderful service amazing food loved it can’t wait to come back xx

A place to celebrate in more ways than one! We celebrated our twentieth wedding anniversary by lunching here ~ but discovered that this place is also worth celebrating as an outstandingly good place to eat in Chester. The menu is simple, unpretentious and reasonably priced but the quality of the food, the standard of the cooking and the sheer artistry of the presentation was exceptionally good. Fish cake/Gravlax starters, ribeye main and trio of different flavoured creme brûlée's/pineapple cheesecake were all served with a smile from attentive staff. Polish Chef Sebastian (who modestly claimed to be 'only the second chef') left his kitchen to ensure that diners were happy ~ we most certainly were!.

This was a Sunday evening, so fairly quiet. Attentive staff. Excellent food and wine. Recommend the lamb.

Half term and Chester restaurants are rammed. 1699 on lower bridge street at 2pm was just nice. Nice atmosphere, lovely outside area which we will revisit when it's warmer and really attentive staff.

I have been to this restaurant twice in the last three weeks. I had a delicious three course lunch on a Monday and the 'steak and red' offer on a Tuesday evening. The food is very good and the service excellent.

Ten of us came to celebrate Mother's Day and have lunch on the great value three course package which included a present for the mum's. Lovely touch. Service from Joanne, Simon and Jordan was excellent, keeping the drinks flowing and even going the extra mile giving us a tour of the Roman Vault party pad downstairs in between courses. The mum's loved it. The food was beautiful and everyone in the party thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Great atmosphere and beautiful setting. Big thank you to all. The mums now want to make this a yearly tradition.

A well presented and tasty meal. Wine was lovely. Staff very pleasant and it was nice to personally thank the talented chef. Very reasonable prices too. A perfect evening. Thank you.

My wife and I went for a meal on a Friday evening. Thoroughly enjoyed out meal and were impressed by standard of service. Could have done with slightly larger starters but mains were fine. The sirloin steak I had was particularly good - tender with good texture and taste and cooked perfectly (rare but not raw or medium as so often is the case).

My son took me for Mother's Day lunch. We received a warm welcome and excellence service throughout the afternoon. The food was wonderful with a good selection to choose from.

Enjoyed a 3 course menu, attentive staff, lovely restaurant and delicious food. All three courses where lovely, would recommend and look forward to a return visit. Great value for money and great quality food

1699 Brasserie is a top quality restaurant with friendly efficient staff and excellent food.

Just arrived home from a lovely lunch with a couple of friends. A delightful meal was had by all, spoilt for choice on the menu. Our friendly waiter, Simon, was very attentive and looked after us extremely well. Three courses and a bottle of wine, followed by coffees next to a roaring fire, very relaxing and cosy, just the ticket for a girly get together. Thank you 1699.

I went for lunch yesterday with 5 lady friends to celebrate two birthdays. We used vouchers that enabled us to have a three course meal for £14.50 a head. We could choose anything from the menu and all our food was beautifully cooked and presented, flavoursome and properly seasoned. I had rib eye steak and it was up there with the best I’ve had. Service was great and the pre lunch drink was taken in a comfortable lounge with a real fire. Wine was reasonably priced. We were made very welcome and I thoroughly recommend it whatever the occasion and even without one! We shall be back..

Myself and my girlfriends met for lunch here yesterday to celebrate two birthdays We were looked after exceptionally well. The food was amazing and such good value for money. We will certainly be back.

Having been to many Christmas Parties over the years, I can honestly say that this has been my all time favourite. From start to finish, we were well prepared for the evening with super communication and then from the moment we received our welcome drink on arrival we were cared for in every way. Extremely professional and friendly staff who couldn’t do enough for our large party. Food was outstanding and delivered on time, with no mishaps. All courses were delicious and everyone raved about the desserts! Every single member of our party was made to feel special and important, nothing was too much trouble. We will be booking again for next year as soon as possible before other people hear about this place and take the slot we want! Absolutely fantastic place, thank you!

Recently visited this beautiful little hotel for my mothers birthday. Wonderful staff, quickly served drinks, fantastic food & brilliant, friendly service. Will be dining again on Christmas Day & we can’t wait.
