Nicholls of Parkgate in Cheshire West and Chester

First visit since 2017, can say the ice cream I had (conder toffee) was a lot lot nicer than my last visit in 2017. Sadly the service was lacking. Was quite a wait to be served which I get however there was only one last on at that time. Another lady came out and could of smiled a little more and be less unhappy looking

Nice ice cream , different flavours to choose from,when alot of people waiting they ask you what you'd like? Can't see yet I'm at the back of the que!one of the lady staff could cheer up also!

Always brilliant here. Tried vanilla, honeycomb, wild cherry, cherry. Prices are very reasonable - four scoop tub for £6 (June 2024). After trying this you will avoid all that super market rubbish! It was in the 80's when we went, and we managed to get a parking space right outside - happy days!!👍👍👍

The ice cream was delicious but hygiene was a concern. The lady that served me as I was getting my card out was refilling the display however she moved the ice cream touching it with her finger, her finger was covered in ice cream as she entered the amount into the card machine. The whole episode gave us concerns regarding overall hygiene.Should protective gloves have been used. This event spoilt our visit.

Ahhhhhh Nicholls…been there since Jesus was a lad always someone in there on a sunny weekend or Bank holiday . Like to park up and enjoy the ambience and fresh air looking at the corniche of North Wales Connahs Quay or is it Flint I dunno I just want an ice cream and a sit down ! Big thanks t the ladies working away especially the one who’s scoops are Olympic standard , she don’t need David Lloyds just a scoop in both hands 🙌. So thanks for that Nicholls yeh thanks 👍

Great to stop and have an ice cream when walking the dog. Lots seats on prom area and seat outside to enjoy your ice cream.

It's an institution, been coming here for years. Great ice cream but the flavours are a little boring by modern standards. Some new flavours would be great!

Went here with my husband when we took my mum's dog on a walk to Parkgate (I'm originally from Wirral and we came up to visit family). Very good selection of ice cream and they even do an ice cream for dogs (unfortunately Lexi didn't like it).

Nicholls has always been known for homemade ice cream. Visited frequently as a kid and returned on a visit to the wirral. Still great ice cream with awesome flavors

Lovely little place with amazing views of Parkgate. The shop has so much selection of everything but we went for ice cream and there was a huge selection of everything, they have vegan sections and sorbets and even doggy ice-cream. Staff are very nice and gave excellent portions with a smile on their faces.

As well as enjoying our wonderful ice creams at Nicholls, we would like to thank the lady behind the counter for giving excellent service and going the extra mile. One of our closest friends has been confined to a wheelchair after a fall in hospital several months ago and this was his first outing since. The lady, seeing we were struggling, kindly helped manoevering us into the seated part of the café, made us feel very welcome and ditto in reverse when it was time to leave the premises. Well done !

Great service. The vanilla is gorgeous, lovely and creamy but the cinder toffee is to die for, full of pieces cinder toffee! We will be back soon!

The ice cream is lovely and other sweets and chocolate are a nice alternative, the girls who work there however make the experience miserable. They seem like they hate their life working there which isn’t the customers fault. They never smile, no manners just shove the card machine at you and don’t ask If you’d like any extras like a flake etc. Been coming here for years and always knew it was like this, other family and friends have been recently and said the same thing it’s almost notorious for the miserable girls who work there. Wouldn’t be happy if my employees received that feedback I’d tell them to fix their attitude.

Had a nice walk and our usual stop for ice cream. I usually forgo the treat due to a dairy allergy so was pleasantly surprised to find they now offer Vegan French Vanilla - truly made my day to enjoy an ice cream with my kiddies! Thank you for making the delicious treat more inclusive!!

Just got home from a lovely walk in Parkgate, popped to the ice cream shop and was absolutely over the moon to find their was a vegan option! The young lady who served us was lovely! She must have thought I was nuts as I was so happy I could enjoy an ice cream! French vanilla was the flavour and it was amazing! So was the cone! Can't wait to visit again. Thank you so much for having a vegan option in the shop 😁

A great choice of flavours especially the coconut and cinder toffee flavours which I would highly recommend. Good sized scoops and reasonably priced. Even the dog was happy as they stock doggy ice cream which does help for a short time for us enjoy our own ice creams before she starts scrounging. Will definitely be visiting again.

The best ice cream i have eaten in uk so far. Parma violet is just terrific. What kind of ingredient is it that gives the ice cream its special taste and color? Eating an ice cream here and then sitting outside in the sun is just a great day.

No social distancing No social distancing going on. Rude customers visiting the area not complying with the signs stating the number of maximum people allowed in the shop. Then barging out of the 'in' door only past people, against the one way system. The shop need to do more to enforce this, as cases are rising.

Not been to Nicholls nor parkgate for a while a 3 mile chilly walk from heswall Was rewarded on entry as they had my favourite flavours Turkish delight and lemon and lime so I had to go for a double cone of both it would be rude not to so creamy and so refreshing my taste buds where awakened by the creaminess roll on the summer!

Good organisation great ice cream a sunny day in a lovely place - what more do you want. Staff very nice and super efficient.

I love their ice cream, so many flavours and reasonably priced too. It is usually quite busy but it's worth the wait in the queue.

A welcome ice cream on a scorcher of a day. Sadly with the Coronavirus rules the government has imposed, the experience in the shop wasn't the best...the staff seemed really flustered and were trying to rush everyone along to try and serve everyone before close, so didn't actually get what I wanted and when the staff started filling the wrong cone, it wasn't worth the hassle of saying anything as they all looked super stressed. Hopefully next year when we come, things will be back to normal and can truly enjoy the ice cream once more.

We visited here on a very sunny weekend miss September. The staff were excellent, the Covid measures were excellent and guess what... The ice cream was excellent. Great value and I can't believe there are any negative reviews? I will most certainly visit when I'm in the area. Thank you!

Visited Wednesday 1st July with my wife and Granddaughter. We ordered two cones and a tub, we asked for two scoops in the tub. We noticed the young girl serving us only put one scoop in. When we questioned this she replied quite sharply that it was a large scoop. It didn't look any bigger than the single scoops she had put onto the cones and surely two scoops means two scoops.I should have pursued it further but didn't want to spoil what was supposed to be a treat for our Granddaughter. Cheated,rude service and indifferent ice cream (we are regular visitors to Italy)We will not be returning to Nicholls

Very well set out with these tough times. Patient and one way system which seemed to work well. All staff had ppe. Ice cream seemed a little melted but was a hot day so I gathered that it would melt quick

what a choice of ice creams and sorbets made on site , people of all ages come from miles around to enjoy ice cream despite the season or the weather. I saw an elderly man wandering to his car with 2 double cornets in each hand for his passengers dribbling with anticipation, the queues move quickly through with the friendly smiles of the staff...my favourite is coconut with a chocolate cornet and my grandchildren have ice cream beards by the time they have finished. Highly recommended!

Stopped here for an ice cream after a lovely walk. Quick service and v tasty ice creams. Chocolate flavour was delicious and my children enjoyed their vanilla and strawberry ice creams too. We'll be back next time we're walking in Parkgate.

Popped in after a recommendation by a work colleague, thought it must be good as they are queuing out the door. Didn't take long to get served, I had Rum and Raisin, kids had Mango and Strawberry and the Wife had Chocolate. All at a reasonable price and very tasty indeed. Great view of my birth town across the river :)

Fancy ice creams such as violet ice and ice with rose water. The ice cream is delicious and creative. Price-performance ratio is absolutely correct. Great ice !!

Whilst still up north I was told to visit Parkgate and the ice cream shop. Oh my words I could roll out of this place tasting all the flavours. Homemade ice cream with such a delicious flavour. Staff great and it is such a lovely clean establishment. Unfortunately weather not on our side but ice cream made up for it!

Late on a beutiful day - Great location to watch the sun set with an ice cream in your hans. Lovely icecream - big load reasonable price and by the little queue it is popular!

We visited for tea / coffee , the real focus is on the ice cream and whilst we did get tea/ coffee / cake there was nothing special about it , but it satisfied our need for a drink

Called in for our usual ice-cream after we’d had a meal elsewhere . Very tasty as they always are. Can’t really say anything else.

We come here every time we are in the area. The ice cream is so yummy, the waffles cones nice and crunchy and just......yeah. Definitely will be back when next in the area. Recommend the banana chocolate chip. So good. Well worth a visit.

I have been visiting this ice cream shop for over 40 years and it always lives up to expectations. There is always at least one special ice cream on sale. They have all the usual flavours and some unusual ones as well - try the delicious Parma violet. One of my favourites is cinder toffee - decisions!

I’ve been fortunate enough to have award winning Gelato in Barcelona and Ice Cream that has been awarded the best in Australia. But nothing beats Nicholls!! Whether it’s a Lemon Sorbet or Black Cherry Ice Cream.

Here probably once or twice a month (even in winter!), always great. Flavours are more traditional (so many bells and whistles with ice cream these days) but made very nicely indeed.

Lots of choice with different types of ice cream. The flavours were good and the staff were friendly.

Came here on a lovely sunny afternoon and had an ice cream with my mum. There were so many flavours to choose from, and the scoop size was huge! Great value for money, just found it quite cramped in the shop as it was very busy with it being the Easter holidays.

You will not be disappointed. If you have never had an ice cream from here then you haven’t lived!!!

Just a small shop in a small Deeside town. But on the weekend the queues stretch out of the doorway. It's because everyone is buying their delicious ice cream and then going for a walk along the prom. A good way to spend some relaxing time on the weekend

If you live locally you know and love Nicholls and have done for years. To be honest it’s still delivering really wonderful home made different flavours of ice cream. I love the Parma violet,Turkish delight and lemon and lime but had a Turkish delight milkshake this time which was a really nice change. The girls serving are lovely and extremely patient with people who still can’t decide even if they’ve been stood in the queue a good few minutes, I don’t know how they do it all day!!

Every time we mention Parkgate, Nicholl's comes to mind. There ice creams seem to have won prizes for decades (though probably longer) and have been a delicious treat since at least the 1970s when I first started visiting. Enjoy a tub of the Black Cherry!

When you've grown up on Wirral, everyone knows that when you move away, it's the law that you have to have a Nicholls Ice Cream when you're home visiting.

Tasty home made ice cream. Long established family business used come out to Parkate as a child. Like the view, the ice cream hasn't changed.

If you like all different flavours of ice do go to Nicholls there is a tremendous selection of ice cream, sweets, drinks, etc.

Visited Parkgate after being away for many years. Nicholls was always the place to go for ice cream. Still plenty of choices and still good even with all the competition available.

Reasonably priced and the ice cream gorgeous Had lemon and lime ice cream .. wow Chocolate mint chip ... really good And the cones are really nice waffle!!

Our first visit here, really nice ice cream and friendly staff. I would defiantly recommend and good views over the estuary towards Wales

This location seems to serve the best ice cream around. Not a great selection but you cannot provide every flavor considering the walking traffic is limited.

When I told friends I was going to the Wirral for a few days they said you must visit Nicholls Ice Cream Parlour.

Ice cream heaven - only problem is there’s too much to choose from - so you have to keep coming back - but I’m not complaining! Well worth a visit.

Lovely ice cream, but there are always queues to be served. Lots of nice flavours to choose from, they also sell sweets and chocolates.

The ice cream served here is second to none. The flavour range is vast and therefore something for everything. The special Pama Violet was delicious. A definite stop for anyone in the area.

This venue is a Parkgate institution and I rarely fail to go there to get an ice cream when I am visiting my family who live there. Is it the best ice cream ever? Probably not but it is very nice and although I swear I won’t join the long queue, I inevitably do as it’s very nice to have your ice cream sitting on the rocks looking out at Wales.

We entered the Cafe and sat at an available table. The two of us where wanting a snack and a drink. When we sat down the staff where serving in the Ice Cream shop. We sat there while more and more people came in and were served d with ice cream. We were never acknowledged as being there, in fact we were completely ignored. After fifteen minutes, we got up and left. Won't return.

I stopped here for ice cream on a bike ride yesterday(Tues) but have been here several times previously, the ice cream is excellent, best Ive had in this area....far better than the place next door. Its not cheap but where is, much better ice cream than Gino's Gelato in Chester and a little cheaper, good selection of flavours but Im a fan of the more traditional flavours. Recommend you go for fish and chips first on the front and then pop here for a desert.

This ice-cream shop has a great choice of flavours. Turkish delight is my favourite. Its so popular that you often see a queue of people out of the door

This is without doubt the best ice cream ever!...We went with our son and daughter-in-law who were visiting from London...they aways insist on calling at Nicholls. The cinder toffee...turkish delight...choc chip and vanilla are all absolutely delicious.

As frequent visitors to Parkgate, we would recommend Nicholls for ice cream as they serve really lovely ice cream of a variety of flavours, ranging from the classic vanilla or chocolate to the rum and raisin, salted caramel, hazelnut etc etc. You can have a scoop or two on a cornet or in a small tub.

We were told this was the place to get ice-cream and it was! Lots of flavours, excellent ice cream and at a very reasonable price. We stayed in The Ship next door for two nights and had Nicholls ice cream both days.

Been fancying some nice home-made ice cream for a few weeks, without seeing anywhere to purchase it! We were in Parkgate today during a trip to the Wirral, low and behold there are actually two ice cream parlours next door to each other - like buses eh!

Nichols is an icecream shop which sells a selection of sweets and other boxed foods such as biscuits too. They have a multitude of flavours and different cones and cups. There is also a tiny cafe area to the left side. This shop gets very busy on high days and holidays and when the weather is good.

It would be a sin to go to parkgate and not get an ice cream from Nichols, always new flavours to try and the girls working there are all very friendly. Service is fast and ice cream is delicious

Nicholls of Parkgate, which used to also house a post office, is very popular with visitors to Parkgate.Although there is another ice cream shop adjacent to Nicholls people are prepared to queue outside the shop just for the ice cream. Always worth trying when visiting Parkgate. The shop also sells confectionary, cold drinks and some stationery and cards and has added a mini cafe in recent years.

I have been and had an ice cream today and also purchased some millions. Although you were extremely busy as always.  . . Your staff were lovely and professional and very helpful as always.

Sunny day and the ice cream went down a treat with the husband and kids, I had the ice cream milkshake and it was lovely!! All reasonably priced and plenty of flavours to choose from

Bank holiday Monday - sun at last but needed cooling down had to join the queue and wait in the hot sun but it was well worth it for this ice-cream - plenty of staff so queue moved quickly - lots of choices - and old fashioned sweets to enjoy too - cant beat it!

As per title, lovely ice cream offered in many different flavours and sizes. Queued out the door when we visited so speaks for itself really.

Go here lots with + without the kids (but dont tell them) So much choice in flavours, something for everyone as they do sorbets for people who cant have dairy. Also sell really nice chocs as well as normal sweets

Have been visiting Parkgate for over seventy years and nearly always call at Nicholls for an ice cream which is as delicious today as it has always been.

Two miles from Heswall, off the A540 Chester High Road is Parkgate where the tradition for baby Merseysiders is to go for an ice cream at Nicholls any time if the year. It was cold today!

Incredible ice-cream. Loads of flavours and it's just so good. They take debit card or cash (of course) and there is a few tables for sitting inside. Definitely worth a visit. Most certainly on our list when we return to the area.

This shop has a well deserved reputation throughout the Wirral for its variety of delicious flavours and consistent good quality....

Loads of flavours from bubblegum to rum and raisin, from coffee to many a sorbet! Always busy even in winter, famous and a bit of a traditional place to go on the Wirral and Cheshire (& Cheshire is a hotbed for excellent Gelato and Ice Creams) With so many positives in Parkgate, this long established emporium doesn’t look up to date so much, but it provides great product! Also sells a good variety of sweets from the old style measures like quarter bags etc.. cough candy, Bon bons etc .. provides much happiness st the end of a visit to this great part of the North West

Ice cream always fab, great range of flavours, staff polite and friendly, always a queue but always moves fast, also sell ice-lollys/chocoalte/sweets.Definitely worth a trip here

The choice of ice creams is large and the shop is always busy. It is bright and clean and you don't have to wait long - unless you cannot make your mind up. There is a small area inside to have a coffee or tea. I have to say my coffee wasn't brilliant. The rest of the family thoroughly enjoyed their ice creams judging from the silence while they licked and slurped!

Before we drove home we called in here for a an ice cream each. The BOSS had peanut brittle, I had coconut, both were delish. Great end to our day out.

I went here a few weeks ago with my fiance and his family and the ice cream is so good, the Turkish delight was my favourite. Worth a visit.

Been coming here for over 20 years and the ice cream is still as good as the first time we visited. Excellent choice and a very pleasant young lady served us. This is the ONLY place for ice-cream in park gate. thank you

Large choice of ice creams and cones / cornets - home made ice cream. There was a queue here but not at the ice cream shop next door - good sign that this one must be the better option. Not disappointed! Only slight gripe was that the cone was a bit soft rather than being really crunchy.

We travel here about once a week . We have the take away fish and chips then we go for the ice cream for afters. Then it's a nice walk along the promenade.

Great to get an Ice Cream or two on a sunny day and walk along the front at Parkgate. Good choice of flavours.
