Great product, but if not a local, then not a lot of chat .

£5 for a chunk of haddock that big cracking value for money it was crispy and thick translucent flakes of haddock mushy peas spot on first time iv been I don't live round there

This used to be the best chippy around. I hadn’t been for a while so popped in as a treat. So disappointed! The food was terrible quality, greasy and tasted off but still charging the same high prices. The shop itself is filthy and run down. Such a shame!

What a shame this place use to be fantastic.. What’s happened ? I have seen it over the years not for the better but tonight was definitely my last visit.. chips undercooked horrible greasy taste service not great and the place looks dirty and tired.. The girl who prepared my order was very dirty her hands and nails were disgusting when she picked the tub up for peas she put her fingers in the tub which put us right off and we didn’t eat the peas.. waste of £25 definitely avoid this once fantastic chippy so sad

Got a box of chips for £2.70 that I thought it was day light rubbery and to top it all small portion when asked for regular and oily and soggy, it was disgusting so £2.70 went in the bin. The business needs to learn from central chippy for great value of £2.20 you get great portion and fresh cooked. Cod father you are the second worst chippy in Northwich will be buying from there ever and won't me recommending you.

Heard good things about here, so came to try. I was really disappointed, as my food was undercooked. May have been an off day, or due to them closing soon. I wouldn't recommend.

Didn’t realise you had to ask for mushy peas to be served in a carton - I assumed like other chippies that’s how they’re be served. Instead peas were slopped all over chips then fish sat on top. Chips stuck together, fish batter soggy. Ruined what could have been a lovely fish supper.

I called in between 6.15 and 6.30 on a Friday evening, it was empty. That alone should have been a warning. The food was disappointing, the chips were pallid and cold, the steak puddings, which are usually the best around were cold and the mushy peas were hard. The service was excellent, the food was bagged up and waiting before I had paid. Again that should have warned me something was amiss. The dog enjoyed the steak, the rest went in the bin. It used to be such a good chippy, it's gone down hill recently.

Fish (cod by default but haddock on request) is excellent, tastes really fresh, good size and light yet crispy batter. Chips were good too although they sometimes let the side down a touch. Overall it's great fish and chips done properly, I'll be back!

Visited this chip shop lots of times. But today sadly it fell short of perfection by a long way. Staff are excellent but the food today sat 27/5/23 was not nice warmed up chips and more eyes in the potatoes than In my opinion should be. Definitely last nights warm ups Fish was watery and not nice. Don’t normally complain but felt my experience there today fell very short of the word good food

Best chippy in Northwich I've tried them all, in my opinion! . I did visit one Saturday early evening was surprised to see that it was closed.

The first time I tried the CodFather, it was really good (a few years back), but each subsequent time Ive tried it, its been very disappointing. The chips were ok, but the fish was disgusting really. It was swimming in grease, with the grease literally dripping from it. I tried adding a photo, but this site wasn't accepting it. I will not be bothering again, and I suggest you don't go out of your way to get the 'award winning' fish and chips. Its just not worth the bother.

Just been in and ordered meat and potatoe pie , chips and gravy. White chips , the potatoe s were rock hard inside the pie which is the smallest we have every had. Sorry , was always really enjoyable chippy but would be going back there again.

Good food great shame about the staff, very abrupt and miserable Hi Claire, I very rarely give reviews but the young lady at the counter was very abrupt, never smiled and looked miserable, she virtually threw the forks into the bag when I asked for them, really sorry but I had to say something. It was Wednesday 24th.

Just had a great meal for two; one gluten free and the other normal fish and chips. I rang the gluten free order in advance and everything was being packaged up when I arrived 15 minutes later. Very friendly service both on phone and on arrival to collect. Well done; a veritable treat .

Consistently rude staff with no customer service skills .

Codfather has been our favourite chippy for years, but the last few weeks have seen the quality drop well below what we'd usually expect of them. In particular the chips are always very overcooked, to the point of being inedible. We tried them a couple of times to see if it was a one off, but it's been just as bad every time. It's such as shame.

I have championed The Codfather since the late, great Matt Orange took the reins but not anymore. As a regular customer, I have witnessed a steady decline in the quality of the Codfather's core product; the fish and chips. For the second time, I have been sold deep fried battered Cod(?) that tastes as though it has been defrosted and washed in bleach. I have been served with chips that look and taste as though they have been resurrected from the previous day - even during what appears to be a fairly busy lunchtime session. Sorry Matt. I tried.

We've had a few disappointing meals recently. Fish is always excellent and batter is usually crisp and light, but can't guarantee that these days. It's the chips that are really disappointing. Chips used to be excellent; no blackened or stubby ones, but now they are poor by comparison .

What a disappointing visit tonight Called in at 6.05 pm today 29.04.22 for 2 fish and chips. The shop was very clean , the staff very polite, but the food fell far below standards. We travelled 26 miles to sample the Gluten-free Fish and chips, we was extremely disappointed, The fish had been twice fried as the outer batter was inedible with a different coloured batter underneath. The peas was the best part of the meal. The order arrived within minutes of ordering which made us suspect it wasn’t made fresh, usually GF F&C take 5-10 mins to make. Won’t be going again. Not nice at all.

Don’t believe any of the crap written on Trip Advisor about the Codfather. This is consistently the best traditional fish and chip shop I have experienced in the last 50 years. If you want the best fish and chips in Mid Cheshire this is the place to visit.

Never been here before but today I thought I’d try it…well no customer service whatsoever the food wasn’t even hot and was very bland…the brown haired girl had a right stoney face! Don’t waste you’re money folks it’s aload of rubbish

The food was bland and lacked any form of taste, the chips were mushy and the fish was so flimsy and greasy it just broke into tiny little pieces. The batter was next to non existent and just added to the moisture of the fish, again with no flavour. Even the sausages we got were bland and lacked flavour. I previously visited here a few months ago and the food was the exact same I thought my previous visit may had just been be a one off but judging by my second visit the food is always at that standard. Dotted around the shop is posters of awards the shop has won, which shows at one point the food must have been to a good standard but sadly it no longer reaches those high standards. I will not be visiting again which is such a shame for someone who lives within a 5 minute walk of your shop. Overall terrible food but the cats had a good tea!

We have recently moved to the area and thought we’d try “Northwich’s best chippy” which is plastered all over the shop. We had really high hopes. We got fish, chips and sausages. The fish was tasteless and mushy. The sausage was bland and the chips were bland and stale. The bread we got with it was so soggy it wouldn’t even hold the chips. You can get over it when one of what you ordered is a bit naff but to have literally everything in the meal have no taste, it’s really disappointing. I will say though that the young blonde girl who served us was really lovely. It’s just a shame that the food was so bad. Won’t be going back :(

Great gluten free fish and chips for my wife who is coeliac. All the girls serving were lovely and polite, will certainly be back!

Although I have to be honest and say that in the main you get some good food here, the last visit was very disappointing. The fish was very unlike it’s usual self, normally crispy, freshly cooked and fresh looking. This time, the batter was much darker, more oily and ‘limp’ looking, the taste wasn’t pleasant either. The chips were off par too, some feeling hard and slightly undercooked. The most concerning thing is the level of attention that’s now being taken on orders, the place is predominantly run by youngsters, whilst I have no real problem with the age of someone, they appear to get orders wrong, leave parts of it out, there’s nothing worse than getting back to find your order isn’t complete. The prep area, where the fish is normally battered, behind the fryers, had a teenager, sat up on top of the work counter, chatting away, no shop uniform, outside clothes on, it doesn’t look good does it! ‘Chippy’ has become a relatively expensive take away nowadays and I think the least that could be done when you purchase your food, is get the feeling your food, is fresh, the hygiene is clean and the service is up there, not to mention it being enjoyed! Sorry, but on this occasion this was all left wanting. I feel I won’t be rushing back to The Codfather any time soon

just picked up fish chips a gravy, the fish smelt pungent and tasted of Amonia, called to tell them and spoke to a manager who said "it was cooked fresh today"............tasted like crap smelt like crap will not use the place again ! Thanks

Great chippy, every time spot on!

We had one large chips and curry sauce to share between two adults - lovely spicy sauce and good chips, though a large is a bit smaller than we're used to sharing from elsewhere. That said, we're quite satisfied, and it's probably better than being overloaded by the monstrous portions some chippies do! We prefer when fish and chips come in paper or card, rather than polystyrene.

Well overrated, chips were ok, the best thing about it was the batter on the fish that was nice but but the fish itself was watery and tasteless, the peas tasted watered down too, shame the only thing that made it edible was the tartar sauce.

Great food, but need bigger portions

We ordered a portion of gluten free fish and chips and a portion of ordinary fish and chips. Both were wonderful. Really high quality, chips were perfectly cooked and not soggy and the batter on both meals was light, crunchy and really tasty. Would recommend. Wonderful to finally find a decent gluten free takeaway option!
