Essence Of Spice in Cheshire West and Chester

Went for the Sunday buffet today. A great selection of both starters and mains. Everything was re-plenised regularly on our visit, we will certainly return. Staff were friendly an helpful 🙂

Probably our 6th visit to date: Table for 2. Busy night, service was very good. Value for money. Can’t fault the food at all…….. BUT….. when we’re actually eating our meals we don’t want the waiter ( sounded like he had a Geordie accent) standing at the table rabbiting on about his 6 daughters, who are a blessing from Allah as they can bear children, and how life on earth is just a stage in the process of life, and when you die is when life begins ( paraphrasing ) I just want to have a meal and enjoy my night without a Muslim sermon.

The food here was absolutely amazing! I'm not one for spicy food but I wanted to try another curry... luckily there was a young staff memeber near me who kindly helped me by explaining what were the mild ones and what were the spicy ones. They also do chicken nuggets in here and I alway have to have some whenever I visit this place because they are just the best! They also do do a big bowl of naan bread cut up into big bits and they are always done just right. They do puddings but I only have that now and then, they sell alcohol as well as soft drinks and the staff are always so kind when we go in there as well. They have recently had a bit of a revamp and the colour of the walls is beautiful with the big mirrors inside. This place is disabled friendly as well as family friendly. Keep up the good work 👍

Abysmal. After a few Sunday buffets always at least 70% of it is empty, and searching for any meat within the main courses is often like Mission Impossible, but of course they still want their full £15 at the end. Stingy cheap-skates that take the full urine. AVOiD!!!!!!!!!! Oh, and the popadoms were stale and the chicken wings were gross 🤮

Food was of a decent standard great quality for the price

Poor service, average food and rude, insulting staff. Couldn't seem to cope with a large group of 10 although there were other similar size groups there. Orders got mixed up and my meal which was a Chef Recommendation Murghi Badami was so extremely sweet it was almost unedible, cashews were burnt black and took more than 5 mins for the rice to be delivered to the table. Staff 'banter' was light hearted to start but ended up being rude and quite offensive. None of the group will be going there again.

Went for the Sunday buffet, seemed to have a good range of starters and mains, nothing that was particularly spicy though. Found the chicken in most of the dishes was very dry. Found that dishes weren’t topped up very often, so didn’t taste very fresh, and not much meat left. Personally think there are better places available locally that offer a buffet on a Sunday.

Visited today for Christmas lunch. Our table had both indian & English dishes. Restaurant was very festive & tables laid beautifully. Friendly & welcoming staff, very efficient. Food was amazing!! Couldnt fault either cuisines, hot, tasty & beautifully presented. 5 stars. Will be booking for next year too. Thank you essence of spice.

We have ordered a takeaway from here a couple of times and always been excellent. Food arrived on time, it was delicious and very hot. 10/10 we will definitely order from here again and are also looking to book into the restaurant.

Usually have Chinese takeaway from August 8 but thought we'd have a change .Main meal. ... Hardly any meat....tiniest takeaway seen in ages. Bland starter ... lots of chicken but no taste.... had to add lemon, chilli etc. Then main meal only had 6 pieces of meat ....usually get double that in other takeaways. Great getting 10% off ...but not worth it when meals so small .

Very tasty food at reasonable prices also pleasant staff making it a good eating experience all round. Highly recommended.

Fantastic place but went for buffet on Sunday evening disappointed they didn't keep filling food up. Spotless clean but lack of food was not good had to keep asking staff to fill up 😕

Arrived with family (6people) for dinner at 9.35pm On Tuesday and was told that kitchen had closed. According to website restaurant is open till 10.40pm. Very disappointed as travelled some distance for the meal.

In my opinion the best curry in the Port. I've been there couple of times and each time the food and the service was great. Waiters were always helpful, would explain what's on the menu so it's easier to make a choice. The owner is always on the ball making sure the customers are happy with the service. Recommended.

I was visiting Liverpool and fancied Indian food and thus restaurant came up closest with decent reviews. Good food, only let down was i felt some items from the mixed grill had been reheated rather than fresh.

We had the 14.95 meal deal. The food was good. Service was ok too. Would happily use again.

Excellent buffet experience. Price for the buffett is excellent value and the food choice is quite varied to meet everyones dining needs. Has poppadoms, chutneys and salad to start and Gateaux to finish. Well worth a visit.

We went tonight for the buffet and the food was amazing. it’s hard to find a buffet where all the food is good but everything here was amazing and fresh. We noticed the staff were very good at making sure the buffet wasn’t running low on anything and the gas was on etc. The staff were also really lovely

Probably the best Indian restaurant in the Port. However not had a sit down meal in here since before the pandemic. Had a couple of take away's which were great. Would have ordered from here more often if their take away price's were competitive to take away businesses..

We tried the buffet as we weren't sure what to do order. Compared to other buffets it didnt have a huge variety but it was only £10.99 minus drinks. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Just the quantity was less.

Awful meal, onions bhaij tasted like they'd been deep fried over and over, chicken chatt dough was like rubber, inedible. And then the main course, butter chicken, the lovely generic red colour, absolutely no taste to it whatsoever. They also never answer the phone, I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone

Ordered our meal on food hub for delivery and ended up ringing them up 2 hours later and had to collect

Its take away night and I can anything I want from anywhere. My 100% go to is always a curry, I'm curry mad, not many places that I haven't tried locally. So big choice tonight is... chinese :( Why have I opted for a Chinese. While Essence Of Spice hasnt really served me a poor meal they fail miserably at listening to what the customer asks for. I love Hot and Spicey food. I've asked on my last 3 visits for them to make my Vindaloo hot, like it should be! However the vindaloo they serve is tamed down considerably, it's a Madras at best and that's being generous. Their Starters are to die for, their breads and selection of rice offerings dead tasty. BUT a curry (if you select the right one) should be HOT. So rather than being disappointed by another mediocre heat Vindaloo I've gone with a 2nd choice fall back which is Crispy Shredded Chilli Beef. So if your into a tasty fairly priced curry with great tasting side offerings then Essence of Spice is for you. However, should you be looking for some heat in your curry, keep looking as Essence fail miserably on this front. Yes I'm a special case, I eat VERY HOT chilli sauces and dishes so I dont expect their standard Vindaloo to be where I want it but after 3 conversations I'm clearly wasting my time and money with them. Have a great meal everyone. Happy munching.

I would have give them a lower rating but it wouldn't let me I have had two orders wrong tonight and I have had to have something re-ordered also I have had two portions of onion bargies which was old and was re-heated with a couple of hairs in and now everyone is feeling sick I wouldn't recommend ordering from here

Order from here quite regularly for years never any issues really good food , until tonight they forgot /misplaced a simple Naan bread and one of four Curry's was not hot so my missus rang up to let them know the dilemma the guy on the phone was quite rude insisting that we had the naan bread and the curry couldn't be cold so technically calling us liers, it's a shame really as this ruined the view of the place for us and won't order here again, over a £2 naan bread and realy poor customer service lost a regular customer

Driver was a rude & arrogant. Had a curry deliverd to hotel. Receptionist was on phone. He just dropped it in front of her & walked away telling her they were my instructions. Total lies! Driver needs to learn some manners. If this is something this restaurant agrees with, then they don't deserve a business. You are only ever as good as your last meal & when that involves delivery, the driver is the face of the business. The average level of quality In the curry, unfortunately did not make up for the chump delivering it. Avoid Avoid Avoid.

My wife and I called in last night for the first time and we were both came away very happy. We both ordered the 5 course menu for 12.95 not expecting too much at that price but we were so wrong. The prawn cocktail was very good and the Sheesh kebab was excellent and the portion was a good size. The mains were excellent, I had the lamb balti garlic chilli and my wife had the lamb jalfrezi. The naan bread were fresh and fluffy and very tasty aswell as the vegetable Badji. Good pints of cobra aswell and 2 for 1 on cocktails on a Friday from 5-9 was another surprise. We didn't even have room for dessert and the staff were very friendly. This was the best food we have had since moving to the port and definitely the best Indian easily beating more expensive ones in the area. We will be back regularly after this great visit. Pilau rice is the best in Ellesmere Port!

We come here often and have never had a bad meal (over ten years). Food is always hot and tasty. The happy hour menu is great value. Staff are always friendly and attentive. I would recommend coming here.

Very nice food good service reasonable price says it all

I have visited this restaurant and eaten from the Happy Hour menu, which offers so much choice across seven courses. Excellent value, but that is not to take anything away from the quality which is top notch. The onion bhajis are really tasty and very well presented with nice attention to detail. The my favourite dish of lamb madras was expertly cooked and a delight to eat. I also really enjoyed the strawberry ice cream which came as a dessert. An excellent restaurant which I will definitely visit again.

Terrible food tonight. Ordered 2 totally different curries but both tasted the same....cold food aswell. Gutted cos it's usually nice and considering they charge 3 quid delivery to go.up the road now is terrible. Definitely not ordering from here again and we never go anywhere else usually. Very very disappointed and wot a waste of money.

Starters were not great. Avoid samosas. Go for prawn puri. Mains were all amazing. Finished every bite.

Starters was ok but mains was horrible curry was very salty couldn't eat it chips was cold name bread wasn't nice as for dessert no words never seen anything like it we didn't get a choice asked if we can order dessert he came out and just put them on the table ask him why we wasn't given a choice he replied what do you want there's only 2 choices very rude will not be returning and if you do not want to waste your time and money or spoil your night don't go there sorry I didn't take any more pictures of food restaurant was frezzing ❄ really is a disgrace been getting sick since came home!

Sunday buffet brilliant as always,try all the things you wouldn't normally order the choices are plenty and very tasty best restaurant in Ellesmere port by a long shot you would need a couple of visits to try everything, staff are brilliant always smiling and helpful, we had 6 adults 2 kids all stuffed our faces for £106 including at least 3 pints each for adults and soft drinks for kids good atmosphere to enjoy family time and relax without the huge expense

Very good and reasonable buffet served on Sunday. The menu is good and varied and the staff are always helpful and friendly. We go here rather than any other Indian restaurant where we live and there are quite a few.

I have ordered t-away from this restaurant for the first time and food was very tasty and filling. The only thing which let them down was time of delivery (1.5h) but it is Friday evening so I have to try again.

Food delivered wasn't good, wrong rice and Balti wasn't a Balti. Third time in a row now it's been wrong so not ordering from here again. Chicken was solid.

This is our regular Indian restaurant, good service and very accommodating. The food is reasonably priced.

I went here last night with my family and it was a wonderful experience as always. We had the £12.95 meal and we all enjoyed everything, the butter chicken in particular was sooo good. The staff were very good and very good with the baby which was good of them. The food had so much flavour, generous portions and hot. We are coming here again Christmas eve like we did last year and I'm so looking forward to it

I came here on Sunday with my boyfriend, his sister and brother-in-law. Lovely place, very warm and inviting, the staff were all great and the food was out of this world. I would recommend 100%. We are definitely going back

Last night me and my wife were wondering where to go for a lovely meal, but we weren't sure what we wanted so we drove about for a bit and came across the essence of spice in Ellesmere Port. They a happy hour deal for 12.99.

Excellent service, good quality food, friendly staff.

Food quality was excellent only downside was we ordered the Chefs Special which should of had Lamb, Chicken and Prawns but it only contained Lamb.

Ordered food for delivery via just eat, so can’t comment on restaurant. Food was lovely, really tasty and not at all greasy as some Indian takeaways can be. Good portion sizes, good value. Will order again!
