The best restaurants serving British food in North West

Very friendly service, high quality fresh cooked cod, chips and battered sausage. Went here in the evening to get dinner before I got on the train at Ainsdale, the fish and chips shop is right next to Ainsdale train station. Really tasty fish and chips. Recommended!

When booking I specified that I was intolerant to dairy and wheat and that my wife was on the banting diet so no carbs. I was very surprised that no effort had been made to put on starters that I could eat. All I could choose from was Soup or the day, Chicken Liver Pate or Sticky Chicken Wings. I chose the latter. There was little to no meat on the wings and they were heavily spiced with chilli and not to my liking at all. Personally, I would have preferred, scallops, prawn cocktail or garlic prawns. My wife loved her Grilled Halloumi. For mains I chose Sirloin Steak with no tomatoes and some asparagus and my wife the Braised Lamb Henry. I asked for my steak extremely well done/cremated. It was medium to well done and not really to my liking as it was very watery as if it had been defrosted from frozen. The chips and mushrooms were good but alas the Asparagus was tinned, had that been mentioned I would have had frozen peas instead. My wife's lamb was smothered in way too much gravy and was not as good as on previous occasions. In the past we have been very happy with the food and the service at this restaurant but alas the quality of the food and the menu selection has gotten worse on each visit. We have enjoyed the times we have had here but this will become our last choice in restaurants to visit in future.

Ordered large cod lightly battered fish medium chips - worst fish & chips ever had! Fish was paper thin, all batter, must of got 2 mouthfuls from the whole fish! Must be buying cheapest cuts of fish from wholesalers then making huge profit £8 for fish Chips not much better full of eyes and also large container sat outside toilet full of peeled potatoes No hygiene whatsoever! Cramped tables back of shop lacking in hygiene

Awful game playing hosts on Four in a Bed. A guy with two teeth in his head and a crimson poodle. Underpaying everything because they “didn’t sleep”. Glad they didn’t win.

Great place to call off for a coffee and cake, coffee was good and the cakes tasty. Nice seating area outside, friendly staff.

We stayed here for 1 night and it was really lovely. As a family of 5 it can be tricky to find rooms big enough and to have that option here was great. The room was spacious and plenty of room for a double, 2 singles and a pull out bed too. Lovely big bathroom too with a great bath and shower. Room was spotlessly clean and super fluffy towels. We ate in the restaurant and also had breakfast the following morning. The portion sizes were generous and the food delicious. The breakfast was great, excellent quality of food and most of all the staff were all friendly and welcoming. Great stay and we will definitely be back.

Food was brilliant cooked to order and very nice will definitely be visiting again because I everything was brilliant.

Popped in here for a bite to eat. Have been once before. Staff are very friendly, hard working and kind. Very full menu. We ordered brunch and the presentation was excellent, food delicious, nothing left on plate. Very busy place, not surprised. Ate outside as it was such a pleasant day.

Tuve una experiencia terrible aquí hoy, no recomendaría a nadie que asista aquí hasta que el servicio al cliente y la calidad de la comida cambie. Tuvimos que esperar más de 10 minutos para ordenar cuando no estaba ocupado, entonces tuvimos que llamar al personal. Luego esperamos otros 20 minutos para que llegaran las bebidas y luego otros 20 minutos para que llegara la comida por un total de 40 minutos para que llegara todo (también tenemos que preguntar cuánto tardará en llegar la comida). Luego, cuando la comida llegó para un restaurante de tan alta calidad, la comida que llegó fue de calidad miserable. No recomendaría a nadie para probar aquí hasta que resuelvan esto a pesar de que anteriormente era mejor en el pasado.

Hi there, we attended a Diamond Wedding Anniversary party and very much enjoyed the food, atmosphere, venue and the gardens. Thanks very much to all the staff who were very helpful, and to the catering staff.

Booked for a family 60th Birthday. The birthday girl was in an electric wheelchair. The staff did everything possible to make it a memorable day. We had afternoon tea and the food was fresh and delicious. There was so much food we were given boxes to take the extra home with us. I would definitely go here again. The atmosphere was great.

What a great little cafe - service and food is excellent. Very reasonably priced as well. It is situated on the most picturesque canal walk. Couldn't get a better combination. Well worth a visit on all counts
