Among the best fish and chip shops in the North West, the haddock was thick, flaky and in a crispy batter, the chips were non-greasy, crisp on the outside fluffy inside. £7.40 for fish and chips is very reasonable. I paid £9.00 last week in Rawtenstall for sub standard fish and chips. The negative reviewers obviously do not recognise quality when they see it.

First time I have been for several months to find a new owner who hails from Wigan. Extremely pleasant young man who was full of chat and banter and I hope will do well. I ordered 2 fish on entering where there was only one other customer who was leaving. I asked if he still used the same fish supplier as I always though it was the best quality fish for miles around with batter to match with fish cooked to perfection. He replied it was. I was seemingly waiting a lot longer than I expected and when I ate the fish I saw the result. The batter was hard and overcooked and the fish within was dry. I think a lighter batter and a shorter cooking time would improve this and I hope he takes this advice on board because he deserves to succeed. I will not be returning just yet however as I was very disappointed.

I called in for a portion of chips recently has I was passing, when I got home I couldn't believe the portion size, it was very small infact a rip off. This chippy use to be brilliant. It was Yorkshire style and cooked in beef dripping and was unique people would have travelled miles to come here. The new owner has made a compleat mess of it now.

I visited this chippy on Wednesday 2nd June for the first time in a couple of years. I wish that I'd read the reviews before I made the effort! One of the highlights of any visit to the East Lancs Railway was always the delicious fish & chips cooked in beef dripping at Taylor's but, as previous reviewers have already noted, they don't use beef dripping anymore. What had been a real star of a chippy, with a huge flavour bonus over all the competition, is now just another of the same. There's nothing actually wrong with the fish & chips, but they're no longer better than anywhere else. Having said that, the staff are very friendly, and were open to the criticism I made over the change to the cooking medium. I was told that the change to oil was to cater for Asians and Muslims, who are not supposed to eat animal products. That is a business decision, fair enough, but it is not one that will attract this previously very satisfied diner back to the premises.

Taylor's used to ba a fantastic chippy and then it was taken over by new owners. I have tried it three or four times since in the hope they would get their act together but they haven't. The selection of food that's ready to serve is non existent so if you want a pie it gets warmed up in the microwave. The main problem is the tiny portion sizes, I ordered meat pie and chips and got less than half a tray of chips, its just not good enough. I thought I'd give it one last try but I won't be going again

I’ve been here many times but will not be ever going again. Haddock in beef dripping was the appeal. It says Lancashire’s finest Yorkshire fish & chips. Let’s have it right as I’m a Yorkshire man. We don’t use vegetable oil to cook fish in. Never did & never will. You have ruined what was unique about this place. Why oh why have you done this. It wasn’t broken & didn’t need fixing. Change it back & make an announcement as this will send a lot of other people away too.

Changed hands recently. Used to be excellent as food was cooked in beef dripping, now done in vegetable oil. Lost the uniqueness, the batter for the fish is very greasy, and the chips are a lot more oily. A shame really. Don’t change what wasn’t broken!

A local fish and chip shop (which has recently changed hands), has been frequented by my family for years. Prior to lockdown our family used to visit on a Friday lunchtime when we were all off work together. The fish is cooked perfectly and the chips are delicious. Staff are very friendly. Since lockdown we have had takeaway usually every 6 weeks as my brother is still working. If you are in Ramsbottom and fancy fish and chips you can’t go wrong buying from here.

Had fish and chips recently from this shop/cafe .I have been there a number of times before and have always thought I`d caught them on a bad day. Unfortunately I was wrong, the last 3 times I have called there the chips have been over cooked and not just slightly either. The last time I bought fish and chips took them home gave them to the family and I said nothing, they all complained about the portion size, overcooking and lack of taste. So that`s my last visit to that shop purveyor of moderate fish and chips at not so moderate prices

I've been coming here for quite a few years, several times a year. I bring my family and friends and, during fair or festival weekends when I'm face painting, I nip in for lunch here as well. It's great. The dripping-fried chips and fish took me by surprise the first time as, being a native southerner, I'd not heard of this before but the taste is amazingly good and the batter!!!!! so light! The staff are always friendly and polite but I find that if you smile and say hello to people as you enter a shop they tend to smile back at you and even at their busiest times I've never seen them in bad moods or too busy to ask how you are.I've read the bad reviews and can only think those people went on very bad days as, even when there are queues thirty deep up the street, blocking other shops, I've never found a person with a bad thing to say about the quality and taste. I'd suggest that if you happen upon a rare bad portion, pop in and let them know so they can see what's gone wrong. Don't just moan about it on here and not let them address your concerns. I know the current owner is looking to sell up soon and I can only say that this will be a real blow to the community. The next owner will have a lot to try and live up to!Please go here and try it for yourself.

Visited for meal for grandchildren and ourselves, take away. Chips the worst ever, cooked in old fat, stank through the paper and when opened up, were soft, soggy and grease ridden. We also bought a fish which was also cooked in old fat. Batter was soft and full of grease. £10 for a takeway which was binned. Forgot to mention the lumpy, thick, cold gravy. Never again. I travel over 50 miles to go here, so go figure. Go and have a 'special haddock',(order on entering to avoid a longer wait) and compare it to your average chippy, especially Chinese. That's what a chip shop fish ought to be. Thick, white, flaky texture that tastes of fish! Not bleached white thin, shaved, bland mush with too much batter. If you expect crispy batter, use oven cook frozen and chuck your money away. Only negatives are 1/ opening times not always convenient for me- wish they had a web site- and 2/ the owner has threatened to pack it all in this September as Ramsbottom has been ruined by what were once called yuppies (now bearded hipsters and out of townwers from too far way who simply must have their ridiculous coffees and wine bars with single word names).

My husband asked me what I wanted for my birthday and I said that I would like a trip to Ramsbottom, look in the little shops and have lunch in the fish and chips cafe. I wished I had asked for something different now, as my husband has got the runs and I've got terrible indigestion. We both had fish, chips and mushy peas and the chips were soggy and swimming in whatever they cook the chips in. I suppose we could have sent the food back, but we were hungry and being older British we don't like to complain. I left my chips and being a Lancashire man not liking waste, my husband finished them off for me. Poor man, we won't be going back there again.

This is simply the best fish and chips for miles around. Cooked to perfection. You will find it hard to find better in this area.

I have visited here many times over the years, guaranteed to be served what I regard as the best fish and chips in the area. Beautifully cooked fish, excellent chips. Service is courteous and efficient even at their busiest times. The takeaway does swift business too! It's not surprising that this place is popular...very good value for money from an owner and staff who care about quality of food and service. Highly recommend.

Always pop in for a fish barm when in Rammy. Always good quality fish unlike many Lancashire chippies nowadays who have lost the ability or choose or not to source and buy quality fish.Staff always friendly. Probably as good as you will get without having to travel into Yorkshire the home of quality Fish &Chips Lancashire used to have good chip shops but since Fleetwood lost its industry due to the European Union there has sadly been a downward trend!

So glad that my son-in-law insisted that we had fish and chips from Taylor's chippy for lunch. The fish, chips, scampi and onion rings were to die for. It's been a very long time since I've had chips and onion rings as good as the ones served at Taylor's. Well worth the trip to Ramsbottom.....even from Australia. Will certainly be back to Taylor's next time we are in the UK

I visited with a fellow foodie friend with local knowledge. We both agreed the food was close to perfection. A good old fashioned chippy, with no frills but the food was exceptionally good. Little wonder why the place was packed in the restaurant and the takeaway counter. It's well worth the wait.

I must say, I have a real passion for proper Fish & Chips, but sadly, it's just so easy for so many eateries to get it wrong. However, just now and then you come across a real traditional chippy whose proprietor really knows his craft. This was our first visit to Taylor's and on this occasion decided to "eat in." Dining area and furniture, very clean. Quick, efficient and friendly service. All tasted very fresh, served nice and hot - the fish was cooked to perfection - white, flaky, yet firm and real chips, (not frozen) - no short cuts here.. Is there much else to add ? Well, only to reiterate that there are so many that fail at cooking proper, traditional Fish & Chips. Top score from me - well done Taylor's !

I live in Salford, and actually travel to this chip shop, it's quite simply the finest tasting one in the north west of England, uses Yorkshire method of frying, which is far superior to what's on offer in Salford, that's why I travel here, good menu, and a fair price also, we eat in churchyard across the road on some benches in the summer, but I still go in the winter, 18 mile round trip, and worth the distance, Geoff,

Visited here on a wet & windy December day, after our original choice turned out to be closed. A blessing in disguise, you could say. With no one else present, we did have initial reservations, but these soon disappeared with the friendly staff welcome. Food was fresh and tasty, even accommodating our off menu requests. Then there was the coffee, forget your “hearts” on the top, they do bunnies 🐰

Lovely pub with relaxed atmosphere and excellent food! Afferside is quite rural and approach road is difficult at night/dark but well worth a visit.. I booked and would recommend doing that to assure a table ( online or phone) at weekends especially. I had Cheese Pie but will try something else next time! Very tasty though!

We loved our stay here. We were made to feel so welcome. Our room was spacious and comfy. Plenty of hot water in the bathroom. Our daughter and son-in-law came to join us for a meal which we all thoroughly enjoyed. Plenty of parking. We will definitely be back.

My wife and I popped in for a light lunch. Ordered a cheese panini and tuna melt , when they eventually came they were basic in presentation, a little salad on the side would have looked more appealing . My main complaint is the place is a mess ,the floor was dirty with crumbs and goodness knows what else, the food prep area was a mess , the waitress was either on her phone or eating her lunch out of a plastic container in full view of customers, very unprofessional. The toilet was situated at the side of a store cupboard which looked as though boxes and whatever else had just been thrown in there. The toilet itself was disgusting ,the seat was loose and water was leaking from the waste pipe at the back. When I came to wash my hands in the broom cupboard I could not find any towels or a dryer and had to ask for a towel whereupon the waitress tore some paper off the role in the kitchen area and handed it to me. I don’t believe that hygiene is their paramount concern.
