Excellent so good to eat I a proper pub we will be back

Fabulous Sunday Lunch, you gotta book though, because it's well known for its good food. Still pop by or give them a call as people change their plans as there's a good chance of availability.

This is our first visit to the Waggon and Horses. I had vegetarian roast dinner and my husband had steak pie and chips. We both thought the food was delicious and the service was great. The pub has a very welcoming atmosphere and we will definitely return.

What a fantastic pub! The food and drinks were great and the service was friendly and incredibly welcoming. We had a lovely evening and look forward to returning.

A gem of a place, delicious well presented food and the staff are so friendly. Took our 2 little dogs, and they were made very welcome.

Four of us enjoyed a lovely lunch today. Loads of choice here. Will definitely go again.

Firstly on entering I would say that the decor in this diner is aesthetically pleasing and the online photos doesn’t do it justice. Visited for lunch following favourable reviews about the food. We had steak and ale pie which was delicious with tender melt in the mouth meat and definitely home made. I then chose caramelised apple pie for dessert which for me was somewhat disappointing as I couldn’t taste the apple as it was so ‘drenched’ in hot caramel sauce and although edible it was quite ‘soggy’ - N.B. perhaps chef - maybe just serve hot apple pie with ice cream without the caramel sauce which has always been popular with diners. Other than that I can’t complain. The service was excellent. Would return.

Called in here after a family walk around Jumbles. Absolutely delicious food and a great atmosphere. Very welcoming, friendly staff. Really amazing food. Can't wait to visit again when the weather is better and sit outside 👍🏻❤️

3 of us ate here this evening , all arriving at different times which didnt phase the staff at all. Excellent service sorting our drinks before leaving us to choose food off extensive menu and fab special board. Squid , scallops and duck bon bons for starters....all delicious and highly recommended. Then we had Stew , Beef Madras and Chilli haddock. All superb Fabulous village pub atmosphere with a 10* restaurant service and food . Deffo recommended 👌

Absolutely spot on. Perfect food full choice menu, great choice of beer and wine, extremely clean and wonderful staff. I'm quite fussy about where I go for a meal bit this place was brilliant, well done to you. If you are into bowling then there is a perfect green to the rear as well. See you next week and many more to come.

Excellent staff, so nice and helpful food fantastic ,sausages on menu weren’t to my taste so they gave me a different choice , Black Forest for desert yeahhhhh all excellent. Value for money. Can’t recommend it enough . We will go back definitely. Thank you waggon and horses

Absolute gem of a pub. Called in on a Sunday afternoon. Beautiful in side and out side. Food was spot on and was excellent value for money. All the staff we encountered were lovely. We stumbled across this pub after a 10k walk. We would now definitely return to this area just for this wonderful pub!

Bar service was warm and friendly, toilets were nice and clean. Didn't eat here but others seemed to be enjoying their food!!

Went for Sunday dinner and what a Sunday dinner! Beef cooked perfectly, smooth as silk mashed potato thick gravy.pigs in blankets and great roast potatoes too. I couldn't finish my veg as I was full to the brim. Wonderful service from (either the owner or waitress) and a great pint of Timothy Taylor to round off a superb meal.

Jusr had a lovely meal and the meat was excellent in the pie. Staff very friendly and helpful. Prices very good. Would highly recommend visiting

This pub has a new chef and the food is 10/10. Had a huge fish and chips and steak pie followed by jam roly poly with custard. Tasted great and well presented. Staff were helpful and friendly. Lovely village pub. Would definitely recommend.

Stopped off here after a lovely walk having not been before. Service was incredible from The moment we walked in. So attentive and made us feel right at home. Food was excellent as well, the steak and ale pie being the star of the show. I’ve eaten a lot of steak and ale pies and I think this could be the best I have ever had.

Stopped hear by chance on the way back from Entwistle with the wife and child and very glad we did. Food was excellent and the service was entertaining as well. Real gem. Very friendly atmosphere overall and will be returning!

Well kept beer. Quite busy with people booked in to eat, so that's obviously a good sign. Great community pub.

Eight of us went yesterday for the Valentines special menu. Absolutely superb, we had three courses everything cooked to perfection. Well done to the chef! The waitresses ,owners cannot do enough for you. Highly recommend!

Four of us dining. We all had an imaginative starter, feta crumpets, hash browns and chilli sauce all garnished with rocket and pea tops plus a gastronomic delight of a meal. Mine was fresh tuna, couscous with spinach slathered in between. The service was friendly and efficient, the ambiance relaxed. This is a lovely. old village pub, in delightful surroundings with plenty of parking spaces. Proper food produced in the kitchen by an accomplished chef and made from fresh ingredients all done at a reasonable price. Highly recommended.

Unplanned visit to this lovely village pub as we were both hungry. We picked 3 small plates plus couple of sides which was more than enough for us both. Very tasty food freshly prepared with great care. If we're up this way in the future would love to have a full evening meal here. Landlady was very busy taking bookings so its obviously got a well deserved good reputation.

Always a good friendly greeting here at the Wagon and Horses in Hawkshaw. The bar has a good choice of Gins etc and they cater for diners with food intolerances very well. The food is always freshly cooked and served beautifully with a smile from Beth, Kate, Kelsey or Grace. Nothing is too much trouble. So it’s Well worth a visit for the delicious food. Closed on Tuesday’s.

Just called to the Waggon and Horses. Was greeted with a very friendly smile from the team. We opted for the Sunday lunch with three small plates for starters. Starters arrived promptly and were delicious. Then came the roasts Beef and Lamb and I must say they hot and piled high. After we waded through it all I can say it was fresh and extremely tasty. Food and service was second to none and will deffo be visiting again.

Nice pint of Landlord. Ordered the veggie curry which was tasty and a good sized portion. You could probably lose the bought-in flat bread - adds to your costs unnecessarily IMO. Friendly staff.

Our first visit and won't be the last Friendly welcome and nice bright interior The food was excellent and nicely presented My husband didn't want pineapple or tomato with his gammon and was offered an extra egg Many of the dishes are offered in smaller portions which suited me A nice bottle of reasonably priced red wine and 2 good hot double espresso to round off our meal

The food was absolutely beautiful ...the best Beef Roast I've had in a long time!! My husband loved his Burger too and the salt and pepper chicken was so tasty. The kids meals were great too!! The staff (the two girls on Sunday) were so lovely and friendly ☺️ I highly recommend The Wagon and Horses.

Fabulous meal last night. The food was excellent, good value for money and the fruendly staff made the night.

Went twice in one week. Monday lunch was fab, everyone enjoyed fish and chips (5 people), really lovely, attentive ladies serving. Sunday lunch, they didn't have much non- alcoholic stock behind the bar, and the kids meals were a bit sad looking (hot dog and pizza). The amount of food on the roast was great, but all the beef was well done, so didn't get an option, and a fish and chips triumphed again.

Stopped off after a walk around Jumbles Reservoir, the Menu offered us numerous enticing choices. The meal was really enjoyable, we'd definitely drop in again for more..👍

seems to have odd opening hours and shuts early most nights. wish they would do something with the parking area as it's definitely not working ATM, very very awkward to get in and out, maybe diagonal parking or similar?! Quiz night on Mondays too which is pretty good

Nice meal, menu has lots of choice, service was very good. I think they are having a problem with the phone as if you ring at 11:45am to book a table no one answers & the bar lady said sometimes the phone rings and sometimes it doesn't. Easy to get a table mid week though & worth a visit.

Lovely country pub with a bowling green at the back and seating at the front. Friendly staff, good choice of classic Rock music (just loud enough to hear, not blasting). Well stocked bar with some cask ales, I chose a pint of red witch IPA very nice. Sunday lunch looked nice with a choice of either lamb or beef. But on this occasion we went for the Waggon Burgers, very juicy and thick on a brioche bun. For afters we had the chocolate orange cheesecake with vanilla icecream and 2 spoons to share. Thanks for a pleasant afternoon guys ❤️.

Lovely local pub in the a little village near Ramsbottom where you can choose between a drink in the main room or a full meal in the front one. The staff were very friendly, and the atmosphere was very cosy and friendly. We were staying in the area with friends and we would definetively come back.

Food good. Service seemed slow but it was rammed. Set time aside.

Recently visited on two occasions and had a wonderful meal on both.. Food is excellent, the ladies could not do enough to accommodate us and the atmosphere is ideal for a quiet family meal.. The menu is plentiful and the portions are just right.. We took advantage of the kids eat free deal and it was well worth it but even without this, the meals are reasonably priced for great pub food and an enjoyable meal.. We will most definitely be returning in the near future.. FYI the cheese and onion pie was a hit!

This is a nice place to eat - the food is particularly good. Needs a bit of TLC the place itself - but welcoming- lovely staff - nice place Hawkshaw. Definitely worth a visit.

One of the worst meals I've ever had. The beef in the steak and ale pie was not cooked long enough and the cheap cut of beef was still too tough to chew. The onions inside the pie wasn't sautéed first so it was crunchy and not nice. The minced beef in the cottage pie was still in blocks in some parts because whoever prepped the cottage pie didn't separate the mince properly when cooking. All in all, horrible food. It was cooked by someone who doesn't know how to cook. Seriously, you can't serve them to paying customers. The 2 stars is for the friendly staff. Will not be back.

Excellent home cooked food not the chain warmed up in a microwave type. Good choice of proper draught beer. Service exceptional. Came in with my disabled father and they did table service even for the drinks. Lovely staff always checking we were ok and enjoying the experience

Service was excellent, staff attentive with a country pub approach which is so warming. We had the cottage pie and extra veg which was absolutely awesome and the chicken tagliatelle as mains - started and deserts just as good and the kids cleared their plates - wow ! Thoroughly recommend this and Sundays Roasts are fantastic too 👌🏻

We went with friends for dinner in between Xmas and New Year and on arrival the dining room was decidedly chilly.I asked for the lamb hot pot and was told that there wasn’t any available.At the end of the meal one of us wanted the cheesecake and was told that there wasn’t any so chose the other flavoured cheesecake on offer and again none was available.This didn’t bode well as it was midweek and apart from us four in the dining room there was only one other table with two people sat down and after saying that we waited for a while before I had to go to the bar to see if we were going to be offered any desert menu.Based on this review I think we will give it a miss for a while!

Really enjoy the food at this pub and service team are friendly and helpful and efficient and attentive to your needs,all round 11, out of 10.

Great village pub with lots going on

Lovely local pub in the a little village near Ramsbottom where you can choose between a drink in the main room or a full meal in the front one. The staff was amazing and did their best for us, even asked the chef for a home-made curry sauce! The food was well prepared and the atmosphere very cosy and friendly. We were staying in the area and will definetively come back.

Staff here are very friendly, we were here for lunch on a cool October day. The pub was quite cold and the barmaid complained she felt cold. We were the first people there so maybe it would warm up with more bodies. I like the newspaper style menu. The food was good quality but the portions of pie very small. I had a small meat and potato pie, the (plate pie must been cut in 8) my friend had a full size cheese and onion. (probably cut into 6th) I felt the full size should be more like the small. I liked that the gravy was in a small jug and not drowning the chops. Didn’t think it was good value. Won’t be back in a hurry when there are better value places around (like across the road)

Been a couple of times and is very nice and has a good friendly feel about the place, staff very welcoming. Beers are good with a healthy choice (not the cheapest) food is very nice and has two sizes which is helpful if you want a lighter lunch. Not the biggest of car parks, well worth a visit

I visited for the first time on Saturday evening with my partner for food. I had read some good reviews so thought we would give it a go. I am so glad I did! The service was amazing, the staff extremely friendly and the food delicious. Can't wait to return and bring the family.

We went for a meal. The service was very good. But I wasn't impressed with the menu.

We were staying locally last week and thought we would have dinner here , wow!! We ended up having dinner there most of the nights we were there !! 5 star food at pub prices , I can honestly say some of the best food I’ve ever had. And friendly staff what more could we have asked for xx

Always drive past, but we have never visited until this evening and i would give this pub/restaurant 5 stars. The nicest meal we have both had in a long time and it would put other local restaurants to shame. The landlady was lovely and friendly but not over the top. I cant recommend this place enough, its a hidden gem and we will be back. Food Excellent!!!!!! and not overpriced!!!!!!

Had the chicken curry, excellent presentation and tasted absolutely gorgeous, not too hot and full of flavour. Side of fries was a bonus too. Well done Team Waggon.

We visited for Thursday’s Curry night menu. There are always 3 choices of curry or there’s a sharing option of all 3 curries. The curries were full of lovely flavours and spices. We chose Southern Indian Garlic Chilli Chicken and the vegetarian option Mushroom and Chick pea Dahl. The curries were delicious and excellent value for money. The staff are always friendly and helpful. Thank you to the chef for coming up with such lovely recipes. I would advise booking as Curry night is popular.

Food was delicious and service was 10/10. Really friendly and welcoming staff. We had gone for two of our children's birthdays and when we finished our meals, they very kindly brought ice cream for them on the house!!! Would highly recommend and we will definitely be going back!

Booked a table for 3 as a birthday treat. Upon arrival, was stood in bar area for sometime, only 1 working behind bar, bar area quite crowded, not very welcoming, staff seemed like they didn’t want to make eye contact. Eventually was spoken too, then...

Best Sunday lunch in ages..all the family enjoyed it..children finished every thing on their plates

Just popped into the pub for a cooling shandy after an afternoon walk but decided to stay for a bite to eat. We couldn’t resist staying for food and knew it would be good, and it was. I had a “healthy” venison hot pot with warm red spicy cabbage and roast root vegetables. Delicious and filling. No room for dessert sadly. Dave had calves liver and onions- so good to have a traditional meal served so beautifully with a side of greens too. He enjoyed it and managed to finish of some of my hot pot. The staff were cheery and pleasant, and the pub holds events such as the rock and roll bingo on Friday nights. I must try it some time. It has a feel of a locals pub that is just as happy to serve newcomers too.

Thursday nights at the Wagon and Horses is curry night. It's been going a while but I never thought too much about going, I've been to plenty of pub curry nights and always been nonplussed afterwards. However I ended up going with a couple of mates and was totally taken aback about how amazing the curry was. I can't remember exactly what it was, but it was absolutely stunning, the best curry I've ever had. The meat so tender, great flavours, spicy but not so much it blew your face off. Accompanied with rice, naan bread and a tasty raitha. All freshly cooked to order. We also, since we were there, had to borrow some of the ales that were on tap and although there was only a small selection, I had a lovely few pints of IPA, well kept beer is a must and they went down lovely. I'm definitely going back in a few weeks, apparently there are different themes / countries so not just the standard classic affair, a Carribbean one is coming up i think so I'll be heading to that. In short, nice pub, good beer and great food, nice welcoming staff, not full of idiots. Cracking combination.

We've been to the waggon a few times now and always been impressed. However our last visit was a cut above. Both the food and service was absolutely fantastic. You'll struggle to find a better pub meal in and around Bury

Great place and a smashing time had by all! Excellent food and a good range on the menu which catered for everyone, no one needed to pick something that wasn't their first choice which is a good sign. Very attentive staff, quick service. Couldn't ask...
