I went for dinner with my partner on Saturday early night. It was so beautiful interior and service was so good. I didn’t check toilet ( toilet are very important. If it’s not clean, I don’t trust foods) but I believe toilet must be very clean as tables and seats. My partner had steak pie and I had mushrooms stroganoff added beef. Both meals were so tasty. I might have again next time. I am always addicted with first impression.

Afternoon tea excellent. Food so fresh and tasty. So upset I was charged £22 for 2 glasses of Prosecco, yet on the menu it displayed £11 a bottle, no glass price dislpayed. The menu for afternoon tea only charges £22.50 with £5 extra to include a glass of fizz, so why was I charged £22? Spoke to a waiter who said this was correct, but it cannot be the case if you can buy this product for £5, not £11. Felt this soured the excellent food we received.

Afternoon Tea, service, surroundings (including air conditioning when the weather was hot and muggy outside), was excellent. And, might I add, at half price - more than worth full price.. Thank you for a lovely overall afternoon experience.

We stayed at the hotel for 4 nights. So had a number of breakfasts and dinners. The food on the whole was good but the time we had to wait for drinks and the food to be served was unexceptional. There is obviously a problem in the kitchen for the food to arrive in a timely manner. Disappointing experience especially as we were entertaining family and friends on two nights.

My husband and our friend both ordered the Striploin of beef. Their meals arrived with everything piled high with a large yorkshire pudding on the top. They both said they couldn't find the meat. About 10 minutes later the waitress came rushing out with a tray containing 4 slices of meat and said the chef had forgotten to put it on the plates!! Absolutely shocked that this fine dining establishment could be so careless to forget the main part of the meal! There was no attempt at compensation such as a free coffee or desert, they couldn't get us out fast enough so they could close. Also, we were given the Sunday lunch menu and told they only had that available. I wanted the cheese and onion pie however. Waitress eventually brought out the a la carte menu which meant she was lying to us to start with. My meal was delicious but the service was disgraceful. I would like the Restaurant Manager to respond to me.

We recently visited and had the Afternoon Tea and the selection of sandwiches and cakes was excellent as was the service. We liked it that much, we returned for Sunday Lunch and was NOT disappointed. My friend and I had two courses and the men had three courses, every course was delicious and the service again was excellent. My husbands parting words to the staff was, "Thank You very much and we will be back". Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

What a disappointing afternoon tea. I phoned and spoke to a member of staff and checked that they could cater for a dairy intolerance with their afternoon tea, to which they confirmed that they deal with various dietary needs. When I booked the actual afternoon tea, I confirmed that one of the party was dairy intolerant and no issues were raised. When we arrived they checked with us that one of the party was dairy intolerant and we confirmed, they said that our food would be with us in 5 mins, it was more like 20/25 mins but that was fine, until the food arrived, please see the photos for the difference in what was provided, when I questioned that I was getting the tiered food and my mum was getting the small amount on the additional plate, the member of staff said that they struggle with dairy intolerances and they’d arrange for some fruit salad to arrive, it was 2 tiny kebabs with probably 4 or 5 pieces of fruit on them. If a dairy intolerance was so hard to cater for, why say that they could do it, other places have said they don’t cater for it and then others have been fantastic. If I’m honest the normal afternoon tea wasn’t that great, I ate bits of it and brought some home but I’ve had better. We won’t be going back and I wouldn’t go if you have a dietary need because you will be an inconvenience to them.

Not a lot of seating in the bar/waiting area.. the Restaurant was practically empty with no backing music or atmosphere, the menu hasn’t got a great choice & it’s way over priced £14 for fish & chips (you get about 4 chunky chips) & £16 for Lancashire hotpot (which was just lamb chunks) & topped with one layer of potatoe slices!! & Poor effort on the Diane sauce which was basically chicken gravy with mushroom quarters thrown in ... it should be thick creamy full of slices of mushrooms onions & a dash of brandy!! Calamari starter absolutely the weirdest texture ever... rank, the Staff were friendly enough, but we will not be recommending or returning ,such a shame because the restaurant is a lovely place with nice decor ...!

This has to be one of the most unpleasant dining experiences I’ve had the misfortune of attending in some time. The waiter was overly rude before we even entered the restaurant. Having a table booked at 9.15 we were sitting in the bar having a quiet drink beforehand waiting on the last few members of our party. From 8.45 he constantly came over asking if we were ready to order yet and seemed very put out when we continued to tell him we were still waiting on more people. When we did enter the restaurant (at our allocated time of 9.15) he was very abrupt in taking our order standing over us as we were deciding. His impatience continued as he then asked us on no less than 5 occasions if we were finished (we clearly weren’t!) and went away huffing and shaking his head every time we said no.

Visited here on Boxing day for a family meal and it was a complete disaster from start to finish!, I have to say we have been here on several other occasions and always thought it was good, I have no idea what went wrong this time?, The beef we was served looked like dog meat!....DOG MEAT! chunks of over cooked meat still in some kind of cylindrical form as though a tin of dog meat had been presented to us.. seriously! the food came out of the kitchen then the food went back in the kitchen, back and forth , the food was either not what we ordered, or it was under cooked , over cooked Wombling free , (not just our table I might add, several tables sending food back), the poor staff must have walked for miles if they checked their pedometer, the guy at front of house did try to help by replacing the meals but unfortunately it was still well well below what it should have been (and what it has been on previous occasions).....unfortunately ruined what should have been a nice boxing day meal..

I have reviewed this restaurant beforehand - the first was a positive review and the second was very negative.I returned for lunch on Wednesday last week as the location is convenient for me. There hadn't been any need to book previously as there were so few people in the dining room. I was astounded to find the restaurant was fully booked! Despite being really busy, Pepe, very obligingly, found room for us.It turned out that Wednesday is now ''Senior Citizens Day' which means that there is 25% off food. (There are various 'offers' on different days of the week e.g. on burgers, fish and chips - see website.)My starter of black pudding and perfectly poached egg on a bed of mushy peas was delicious and the soup also met with approval. We all chose the fish and chips. The fish was good. I, personally, don't like 'fat' chips and asked for 'skinny fries' instead - the other three people wished they'd done the same! We didn't have dessert.I wonder why it's taken so long to return to a format that was so successful in the past? Great food, reasonably priced, good service, in pleasant surroundings. Congratulations to whoever is responsible for the 'turn around' - a new manager, maybe?

we booked in Feb 2017 for a group of 11 adults and four young children for Sunday Lunch - a few of us had eaten here before in smaller groups and been really pleased with the service. However we waited so long for the order to be taken and the food took an age to arrive. When it arrived the meat (beef) was not freshly cooked roast beef but sliced beef (like you would buy in a supermarket) the Yorkshire pudding were just overcooked big crispy balls of fresh air with no taste. Even took them ages to clear the table afterwards. Given that Sunday lunch is only a choice of 4 meats all with the same trimmings basically it was disappointing. Having previously eaten here in a group of 4 with the full a la carte menu available the food was lovely and the service was great - hence booking for the large group for my sons birthday - we had all traveled quite a distance and were really disappointed. My sister who is a vegetarian had contacted to enquire about the vegetarian menu the response from the call taker was that it was just whatever the chef had available on the day!

My partner and I dined here on a Sunday afternoon. The decor is modern and the restaurant had a nice, ambient atmosphere. We were offered a choice of tables on arrival as the restaurant wasn't overly busy. After being seated for about 10 minutes we still hadn't been offered a drink and in the end had to stop a waiter walking past to ask if we could order some.On a Sunday afternoon they offer either a 2 course deal, or a 3 course deal. We opted for the 3 course at just short of £19 and for this money, you shouldn't really expect too much in my opinion. For a starter I ordered the ham hock & chicken terrine which was a reasonable sized starter which came with bread, salad and chutney - tasted quite nice and very light. For main, I opted for the roast beef dinner with usual trimmings. The beef was more well done than I would usually have it, but that really is down to personal preference. The roast potatoes were quite hard on the outside, not in a nice crispy way, more like they'd been under a warmer for too long, but at least the vegetables were nice and fresh. My partner had the sea bass which he said was perfect and delicious. Perhaps I just chose wrong on the day. For dessert, we both had the cheesecake which turned out to be a baked cheesecake. Nothing wrong with that but the menu should really say this as it wasn't what I expected - though I have to add it was delicious.Overall, I would say the place was 'ok' - it's nothing special. I've had worse, I've had better. Would I choose to go again? I'd probably choose somewhere else that I know is reliably good, or maybe visit on a different day when the menu is more varied.

The starters were fine but it was after 8 pm before the main course was served. The meals were advertised with creamed potatoes but I had to ask for these and by the time they were brought to the table we were half way through the meal. The potatoes were cold and had simply been mashed. The seasonal vegetables were 5 greens beans and 3 carrots each.On previous visits we have always been served additional vegetables as part of the meal, so the meal was extremely small. My sister had roast lamb but this was so tough she couldn't cut it let alone chew it.We then waited until 8.50 for desserts, which only came because we asked for them.My son ordered Baileys cheesecake but was given New York Cheesecake without being informed,Brownies were dry and the crumbles overcooked. Not one person enquired at any time if our meal was fine and we were not offered any additional condiments.I have always rated this restaurant on its service but tonight this was sadly lacking. It felt like everything was too much trouble.Staff only seemed interested in the wedding going on.We regularly celebrate family events here but not so sure I will come again

The menu is varied and broken up into various sections, i.e grills, salads and then a really good choice of traditional foods.

I've never wrote a review before but feel it necessary on this occasion. My husband booked us in here for valentines night. Firstly the young girl that was working and welcomed us obviously didn't want to be there. She couldn't crack a smile the whole evening. We didn't have starters so went straight to the main. My husband ordered a filet steak and myself steak and ale pie. The steak was so fatty it could not be eaten by my husband when you pulled the meat apart it had fat running all through it I've never seen a steak like it. I informed the waiter who said he could swap it for another steak. He then came back to say all the steak look fatty so did he want to swap it for something else. He wanted something quick as I was already eating mine so he chose the fish and chips. My pie unfortunately wasn't enjoyable either. The meat in the pie was nice and tender but the meal tasted of pure salt I asked my husband to taste too to make sure and he agreed. When the fish and chips arrived he actually did enjoy this the chunky chips are yummy. the waiter did not once apologise and processed to tell us the steak will be taken off the bill as it's more expensive than the fish and chips. When the bill arrived from the not so friendly young girl I noticed to steak and peppercorn sauce where still on our bill we went up to the front to ask him to take them off, still no apologies. We did not enjoy the evening and was a waste of money to sum up.

I don't normally write reviews, but when you find something so good it would be a crime not to spread the word, and the word is Oscar's. We visited Oscar's for the most recent date night deal they do, their was four if us and what a deal £39.95 per couple 3 excellent courses and a bottle of wine thrown in, and not to forget the entertainment. All well worth the price. The surroundings well kept and the mood and atmosphere was something I've never seen in a restaurant before, lights dimmed, candles everywhere very romantic. All the staff very attentive and ensured nothing was too much trouble. Drinks arrived promptly and we where asked throughout the night for more to Dave is going to the bar. Food was very tasty black pudding starter was lovely. All in all a fantastic evening. We will be back again soon to try out your a la carte.

With a title as strong as that a comprehensive justification is required. Well the first justification is that we paid over £450 for the privilege. As a party of 10 and having left the booking until the last minute Oscars was the only place that could accommodate us, we now understand why.We arrived early and had a couple of drinks in the seating area. The girl working the bar was polite and friendly - good start. Whilst in this location a gentleman came and took our food order. A number of the group ordered steaks however we were informed there were not enough to go round so some orders were changed. We were then taken through to the restaurant where we found there was only one other table occupied. A busy restaurant would make the unavailability of certain foods acceptable but not when the place is empty.Whilst we waited for our starters the waitresses were excellent in keeping the drinks topped up. Sadly that is where the compliments end. I am no food expert so I cannot articulate how bad the pate was. Everybody who ordered it found it to be impenetrable, some suggesting it was indeed frozen, dire in taste and would be more useful as a tool to knock in a cricket bat.Despite the fact there were not enough patrons in the restaurant to make up one rugby team the main courses took an eternity to arrive. On a positive note this did allow for our mutilated jaws to recover slightly from the pate. Alas! The main courses arrived. The same gentleman who took our order proceeded to hoist our steaks from person to person.. did everyone ask them to be cooked the same I hear you ponder... of course we didn't but by this point we were desirous for the meal. With a table of food there was a gasp, one meal was missing, do not despair the waiter had it under control. Out in a flash providing a gammon for somebody who had ordered a fillet...Stampeding back to the kitchen to rectify his one job of the evening left the table wondering if our sauces had also been forgotten. After a brief pause he was back with an assemblage of "sauces".The majority having requested peppercorn were faced with what can only be described as packet gravy and those who had asked for truffle were presented with some sort of melted margarine. As most were finishing the final fillet arrived. It had been cut in half so that it could be cooked quicker. Some might say a genius idea others, erm, not so much...!By now you can appreciate that we politely declined desserts. Some of the group had trains to catch the following evening and were worried the final course wouldn't arrive in time. As our plates were collected the waiter did not ask one person if everything was ok. Service had been utterly useless from the moment he engaged with the group. This could be forgivable and we actually found his actions comical at times. However, when you are faced with a 450 pound bill, where your starters were unpleasant to put it mildly, your main courses were all cooked incorrectly and served haphazardly, incorrect meals were served, a fillet was served cut in half and sauces which do not even fall in to the category of sauces were served then at the very least have the decency to ask if everything was ok.As the question was not forthcoming, we instructed him that we were not paying for what we had now called the sirloin fillet. After a brief moment of "me no speak english" the bill was changed. When you cant get into any other restaurant on the same night yet you arrive at a place where there is only one table occupied have that epiphany moment we were sadly lacking and turn around, unless of course, the comedy club is full then prepare to be entertained!

Myself and my partner had booked a table for 3.30 for Sunday lunch, we were taken into the restaurant to find there was wasn't a table ready for us to be seated, returned back to the waiting area and waited 15 minutes extra. The service was bad, nobody came to check on us or even offer water for the table. I had soup for starters, (or green water) for starters, I drank that. For my main meal i had the worst bit of halibut ever, it could of bounced off the blinds! The fish must of been kept warm for over on hour, my partners bog standard prawn cocktail was the good old classic frozen prawns, his beef wasn't bad. We will NOT be going back. First time I've never left a tip!

We previously visited Oscar's In September and did not have a good experience. Jason the Manager who dealt with getting us reimbursed for accidental overcharging for our meal saw my review on Trip Advisor and could not have been more helpful. He took our complaint very seriously, listened to what had gone wrong and assured us that was not what an experience at Oscar's should be like. We were invited back for a complimentary meal. The experience the second time could not have been more different from our first. The food and service were excellent and Jason was back in touch afterwards to check we were satisfied. I cannot fault the response we received on raising our complaint. Our second visit was so good we are intending to go back again this weekend for a family meal.

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Very busy so waiter accommodated us in a quieter part of the restaurant. Alberto the waiter was fantastic. Nothing was too much trouble, Food was lovely as always and any little niggles were swiftly sorted. Ordered something not on the menu with no problem. Manager Jason was suitably attentive.

We booked Oscar's restaurant for a party of 35 to celebrate our daughters 18th birthday. Interestingly, the recommendation had come from the events manager of another well-known local hotel chain who assured us that Oscar's was very well regarded and had a fine reputation and would be his personal choice. That was good enough for me to give them a call. From the start, Jason was fabulous. Polite, attentive, nothing was too much trouble (a good sense of humour too!). I admit I was a little nervous that 35 three course meals would be a challenge to deliver at the same time (especially as they included 16 steaks cooked from rare to very well done and every grade in between), I needn't have worried. Every meal was beautifully presented, arrived on time and cooked to perfection. The service was faultless and the staff just couldn't do enough for us, even coming to our rescue when it turned out my husband had forgotten the candles for our very special birthday cake! The restaurant itself is beautiful and had a lovely atmosphere.Everyone in the party commented on the quality of the food and how impressed they were with the whole evening. We will definitely be returning and wish to thank Jason and the whole team for making it such a wonderful evening and looking after our guests so well. We cannot recommend this place highly enough. We will see you again soon!RegardsThe Backhouse family

18 of us went for a Sunday lunch to celebrate a 70th birthday. This was our second party at Oscar's, the first visit being reasonably good bearing in mind the price & it being a hotel diner. The starters were ok if a little basic, but not really worthy of any complaints. However the main meal of either lamb or beef was below average. The lamb was tough, but the beef was acceptable. The roast potatoes were very hard and undercooked, why is it very few restaurants in the area can do roasties any more!! The gravy for both the lamb & beef was the same "gravy from a packet" dross with zero flavour and obviously had no meat juices whatsoever. The deserts were ok, but in the end the main draw is the roast beef/lamb dinner which was very poor. We will not be returning for the next party which a golden wedding, sorry.

We went to Oscars on Sunday 18th July for a 6.30pm booking. On arrival our table hadn't been set and the waitress had to bring extra place settings over. We were then told the only menu on a Sunday was their Sunday lunch menu. We didn't want Sunday lunch but were left with no option. Then guests arriving after us were given different menus so clearly if we had been prepared to wait 15 minutes we could have had them too. My husbands starter arrived which was a Palma ham salad but it had no Palma ham on it. Then we had to send my daughters main course pasta back because it was undercooked. The roast potatoes were lukewarm and hard and overall we were disappointed. The male waiter seemed like he would rather be anywhere than serving us. On getting home we checked our bill and realised we had been overcharged by over £15. I rang Oscars the next day and was told the manager was out but would ring me on Wednesday. I'm still waiting for their call. I have tried calling again today but end up on a telephone loop with no one answering. Very disappointed and will not be going back here again.

My wife and I popped in for a light lunch. Ordered a cheese panini and tuna melt , when they eventually came they were basic in presentation, a little salad on the side would have looked more appealing . My main complaint is the place is a mess ,the floor was dirty with crumbs and goodness knows what else, the food prep area was a mess , the waitress was either on her phone or eating her lunch out of a plastic container in full view of customers, very unprofessional. The toilet was situated at the side of a store cupboard which looked as though boxes and whatever else had just been thrown in there. The toilet itself was disgusting ,the seat was loose and water was leaking from the waste pipe at the back. When I came to wash my hands in the broom cupboard I could not find any towels or a dryer and had to ask for a towel whereupon the waitress tore some paper off the role in the kitchen area and handed it to me. I don’t believe that hygiene is their paramount concern.

Visited here on a wet & windy December day, after our original choice turned out to be closed. A blessing in disguise, you could say. With no one else present, we did have initial reservations, but these soon disappeared with the friendly staff welcome. Food was fresh and tasty, even accommodating our off menu requests. Then there was the coffee, forget your “hearts” on the top, they do bunnies 🐰

Lovely pub with relaxed atmosphere and excellent food! Afferside is quite rural and approach road is difficult at night/dark but well worth a visit.. I booked and would recommend doing that to assure a table ( online or phone) at weekends especially. I had Cheese Pie but will try something else next time! Very tasty though!

We loved our stay here. We were made to feel so welcome. Our room was spacious and comfy. Plenty of hot water in the bathroom. Our daughter and son-in-law came to join us for a meal which we all thoroughly enjoyed. Plenty of parking. We will definitely be back.

I visited Krave on Friday 27th September and ordered scrambled egg on toast. I was charged £5.90 for 1 piece of toast and a tiny bit of scrambled egg which didn’t even fill the piece of toast - yes 1 piece of toast. Absolutely shocking. £5.90 for that - talk about having your pants pulled down. Have occasionally visited this place over the years but won’t be returning @ them prices and portions. Disgusting - Robbery.
