Lovely lunch today . We ate the chicken wrap and haddock ciabatta. We were pleasantly surprised with the big portions. Lovely atmosphere in the conservatory. Service was fantastic from all the team but especially our server Molly . She was so bubbly and friendly - a real asset to the team

Ok so I always try to be fair and balanced when leaving a review! The Pack Horse was recommended so we thought we’d give it a try for a Sunday afternoon. The car park was heaving so that’s a good sign that it’s popular. We loved the inside and found the staff to be warm and friendly. A good selection of beers on tap and a decent menu with plenty of choices. My wife and daughter shared the scallops to start which were delicious and I chose the salt and pepper spring rolls which were also delicious. For mains my wife and daughter opted for the sharing platter Sunday roast , there was plenty of meat and veg and gravy, unfortunately the turkey was very dry and the beef quite overcooked, but all hot and tasty! They ordered an extra side of cauliflower cheese which failed to materialise and we had to ask if it ha been forgotten, it eventually arrived but yo be honest they were probably half way through the meal by then! We’ve all worked in hospitality so appreciate things can get missed etc do we didn’t cause a fuss, I would have thought that it would’ve been a nice gesture to take it off the bill really. Never mind! I had the fish, chips peas and opted for the curry sauce on the side. The fish and chips were very good however I have to say the curry wasn’t particularly yo my liking, it said it was chip shop style curry but it wasn’t very nice. It may be that that’s how the chef likes it but not for me I’m afraid. Service was good, staff nice and friendly All in all I’d say it was a positive experience and we’ll definitely return Thank you

Unfortunately we were all disappointed with our roast dinners on Sunday. The food was lukewarm and it looked/tasted stale, it definitely wasn’t freshly made for us. The beef was tough and more well done than we would have preferred. The Yorkshire pudding was stale and chewy. The staff were good, although our son (2yo) was served a good few minutes after our roasts came out. As a parent this becomes really tricky!!

Amazing Sunday lunch. I had the roast ham which is delicious!! I also had the chocolate brownie for dessert. All the staff were very friendly. Would definitely recommend and we will be back!

The staff were great but the food was a bit of a disappointment. The portion size was small for the price. I have been a few times and each time has been worst than the last.

The service, food, atmosphere were spot on. Always a very welcoming and enjoyable experience. No shortage of staff-all are very polite and friendly. Would certainly recommend a visit.

Staff seemed under pressure and not interested in complaints On previous visits for Sunday lunch have enjoyed the traditional roast beef and Yorkshire puddings…. But not on Sunday 2nd February. Normally the beef is placed on the plate and then the vegetables are put around it Not on this visit where everything was on the plate with the tasteless beef just “plonked” on top of everything Have no idea what cardboard tastes like but the brittle Yorkshire puddings are I am sure what I imagine cardboard might taste A total unenjoyable meal with disinterested staff and costing a lot more than could ever be justified Problem is with a full house… nobody seemed to care

Dreadful.. no engagement from waiting staff. Slammed drinks down. When served main course, slammed down, no asking if we wanted any condiments, no checking of meal was nice, no interest in us as customers.

Celebrated a milestone birthday with 18 guests. We pre ordered our meals, and service was amazing. All meals arrive at the same time, the table service foe drinks was attentive. The stafg were brilliant and it's a lovely venue Lots of outdoor seating for the summer and a roaring fire Highly recommend

Always very good food we had a lovely time the pub and restaurant is excellent clean and comfortable when it’s busy you may wait awhile but the service is genuine and the excellent staff are pleasant and helpful a real treat.

Service was a slow but friendly, but the food left a lot to be desired. 6 of us had roast dinners and all of them were cold, I understand they’re busy but at nearly £20 for a roast dinner it should at least be hot… we were also advised that the roast gammon is actually served cold on the roast dinner as it’s made the night before and not reheated for serving, found this crazy. Wouldn’t go again which is a huge shame as we had hopes.

Not one for reviews but today I felt I had to mark a review on a restaurant we fondly enjoy going too. Celebrating 2 family members birthdays and an over due Christmas meet we pre booked our meals as requested from the staff. We attended the restaurant 30 mins before we were due to sit down. Sat at the table no issue, to then endure a meal not fit for purpose.. myself and my partner opted for the Sunday roast for 2. To be greeted with a cold/luke warm and what looked like yesterday's meat and vegetables.. we informed the staff thinking they would take the dish away. For staff to relay it to the cooks and to see staff laughing behind the bar was what I felt an insult. Many other dishes were poor, too salty, meat too fatty or over cooked. Such ashame to have a meal go to waste. Hopefully this is a blip and it recovers well but unfortunately will be our last visit. 😢

Food is just ok nothing really special . Staff are good and it gets really busy especially on a summers afternoon . They have the location but as can be seen by pics food average 2/12/24 Went again today totally changed bar staff especially the long dark haired lady was amazing . Food spot on a massive improvement. I will be back . Few local “ characters “ with places to park a bike apart from that great pub you have improved a lot food was amazing 2/1/25 Went again starters great but fish far too much hard batter . Food was lovely but service was too slow for us to be able to have our dessert in the allotted time. We were asked to move tables if we wanted dessert or another drink. A prime example of somewhere that is fantastic for 11 months of the year but when December comes along it disappoints 🙁

We had the most wonderful time on Christmas Day. The atmosphere was festive, the staff were so friendly and attentive and the Christmas dinner was lovely. Would recommend to all!

We were a party of ten on Christmas Eve early afternoon. The staff were very helpful, efficient and pleasant. The food was served on time, all together and freshly prepared. What more could you ask?

My family and I have just enjoyed a Christmas eve dinner at the Pack Horse... Wow... Michellin star quality meals all round... Perfect waiter service, whomever was controlling a very busy restaurant did it to perfection. We were not rushed and absolutely enjoyed the visit. Thank you to all the team who gave up there Xmas eve to work. 5 stars all round thanks

Lovely Saturday afternoon late lunch. Black pudding and scallops starters, beef rib and lamb shank for mains. The star was the blue cheese dauphinoise, stunning. Great location and decor too.

We have held our annual Christmas Party at The Pack Horse for many years now. The food and service are always exceptional, and all of the staff go above and beyond for us every year. Thank you to all of the team for being excellent as always.

We had a festive fayre set menu ,we were a family off 8 plus a baby ,we all had a wonderful meal ,staff was so attentive ,every one was served at the same time with ample portions ,family commented how tasty the food was ,well done to all the pack horse team ,and the manager Luke,who always gives a warm welcome and always helpfully from Debra and John Bradford

The pack horse is by far the nicest pub restaurant in the district travelled from Middleton and rawtenstall for a Christmas lunch food excellent staff excellent .the place was spotless. Had a meal with work colleagues. Superb food. Christmas meal apparently lovely and the lamb shank was amazing!! Well recommended.

We regularly visit The Pack Horse. It’s a lovely location, with great views all around. Great to visit mid walk with your walking boots on, or to dine and out your glad rags on. The food is consistently very good and the staff always welcoming and efficient.

We had a lovely family meal yesterday. Food was fab including the vegetarian roast. Staff are attentive. Great views and atmosphere.

This is our 4th year celebrating our Christmas lunch at The Pack Horse and once again Luke and his staff delivered fantastic food and excellent service. We always have a private room for our party. All 25 guests complimented how good the food was presented and quality was excellent… Thank you for Prosecco too and crackers that extra touch goes a long way with my friends from Bury Ramblers….. kind regards Tracey

Sunday lunch is average at best - one portion of beef was mainly fat and inedible The staff didn't care . On arrival, the table was ready though dirty - it had not been cleaned at all well. The roast potatoes were crunchy, as though they had been in the oven many times and for far too long as the insides were not fluffy but tasteless. The staff were so keen to clear the plates away, trying their best to do while we were still eating. What almost made up for a fairly poor meal was the small pudding and coffee option though when they arrived, these portions were so small (probably less than a quarter of a normal portion) that again, let down was the feeling as we left. Not an experience I would repeat with so many better options near here.

Seen this pub change over the last 20+ year's and it's still a great place to enjoy a drink, food, scenery or a good catch up with friends. The service was fantastic and a great choice of beers.

Met with friends. Tried the steak and ale pie. Now a traditional pie instead of in a dish with crusted top . Much better served this way . Friends had the sea bass which they said was excellent. Service and ambiance excellent would recommend. Tried the whiskey and marmalade bread and butter pudding first class

Food options and quality are consistently good, staff can be a little inexperienced and young but it's a great venue and the atmosphere is always good

Lovely pub with relaxed atmosphere and excellent food! Afferside is quite rural and approach road is difficult at night/dark but well worth a visit.. I booked and would recommend doing that to assure a table ( online or phone) at weekends especially. I had Cheese Pie but will try something else next time! Very tasty though!

Had a meal in the bar area rather than the restaurant area this time. Food was very nice and service was lovely. Busy enough to have atmosphere but quiet enough to be able to have a good conversation. All in all, a very pleasant night out.

Well, worth a visit as you have great views and walks. Lots of local history attached to the pub. I was slightly disappointed with their prawn sandwiches.

Such a lovely pub. Decent size, very homely feel, and th3 staff are very welcoming and polite. It's a Hydes pub, so they had 3 ales on, plus others. The food is delicious, with a good choice of menu to suit all tastes and the roast dinners are amazing....they even do a share platter for two! I've had the fish pie on several occasions...so if you like a fish pie, don't hesitate to order if it's on the menu...you even get a seared scallop on top! We shall be returning again at some point, why wouldn't we!!

Wow what a lovely experience when celebrating my Brother in Law's 50th. The staff bent over backwards any time there was an issue. A Huge thank you to Matthew who was a gem. Thank to the Pack Horse for making our day Special.

The food at The Pack Horse is excellent, and there is always a warm welcome from the friendly staff, especially Sean and Abby when we attend the weekly quiz on Tuesday evenings. The cask beer is well kept (according to my husband), although a guest cask would be good. We always leave with a smile on our face. What more can you ask for?!!

Had set lunch and have had this on 2 occasions .The chips don’t taste good they taste microwaved . Apart from the chips this is a lovely place to eat . Good service .Great atmosphere .lively views would visit again but please change the chips . Only experienced this on the set lunch time menu .

There was actually a great atmosphere for the Cabaret Lunch with a Tom Jones tribute, which I had not known was on when I booked. Unfortunately, that did not help with the quiet business lunch we had planned, as we could hardly hear each other speak. In future, I will make a point of checking for events when booking. Otherwise, the food etc was great, as usual.

Really nice place, excellent food at really goodprices, friendly staff and good service. Added bonus is the manager has 2 toy poodles who our miniature poodle loved. We will definitely be going back.

Popped here for Saturday night date night and loved every minute. Very efficient, friendly staff & lovely atmosphere. Food was great and my partner rated the cheese and onion pie as top of his cheese and onion pie list! A real winner. Drew and Joely were wonderful and couldn’t fault them. Highly recommend :)

Called in our local pub for a drink but after seeing the excellent menu we decided to have a meal from the lunchtime special. The food was excellent, the staff, as usual were friendly and very helpful. Couldn't fault it. Had a very enjoyable afternoon. Thanks to all!

Everything was excellent and made for a very enjoyable meal out to celebrate our 59th wedding anniversary.

Very poor and slow service ,main course took nearly one hour to be served. Attitude of staff very poor.

The restaurant wasn’t very busy and watching the staff delivering food it didn’t look like the outside area was either. So there is no excuse for the time it took to deliver our food, also when the food arrived it was evident that it had been sat under heat lamps for a reasonable period of time. Generally the food and service we have had here has been better. The drinks prices are pretty high with a double spirit and mixer coming in at about £13.

Very disappointed in food. Ordered the turkey roast and it was dry and over cooked. Almost seemed burnt around the turkey edge. Yorkshire pudding was too solid and very crispy. Ordered a burger as well which was decent. It was a shame that the roast doesn’t come with mash potatoes as I felt it would’ve been a great addition especially with the roast potatoes being almost inedible at the sheer solidity of them. Atmosphere is good. Service was okay at best but staff seemed hesitant to talk and very awkward when taking our orders and menus away. Drinks were good. Overall a bit disappointed but would never make a fuss.

Wouldn't be rushing back . Very disappointed, forgot our starters said it would then come out with the mains and would be knocked off the bill ... never appeared then told we would have a free dessert instead. Chips very overdone and the whole plate had obviously been sat drying out under the lights .Dessert was a very dry and hard meringue not chewy at all , then issues with the card machine trying to pay . Over heard the table opposite complaining also regarding the food. Shame as this place was recommended to us .

I have eaten here several time in the past and it’s been just lovely. However, I cannot believe how much the food has declined now. The Scampi was barely warm and it was soggy, undercooked. Within 2 hours of leaving both me and my friend had pain and an upset stomach. Thick chips just crisps and no potato, overcooked. UPDATE - on being invited to return. Can happily say it was a one off. Food was beautiful, service was great. Great choice of food on the menu.

Lovely meal. Friendly and professional staff and friendly service. I visited with a friend for lunch and ate from the fixed menu. The main menu has lots of choice too. I will visit here again based off my experience eating here. It is also dog friendly and there is a lovely terrace to sit out when the weather permits with fantastic views. Word of advice arrive early if you want a space on the car park it fills up quickly. All in all I recommend this restaurant and I will definitely eat here again.

The fish dishes - pie - fish n chips were hot and tasty ....the pork fillet dish was overcooked n veg dried out, very disappointing.

Very disappointing Sunday lunch…rock hard roast potatoes and yorkshire pudding obviously pre cooked and warmed up , turkey unappealing. veg very limp and tepidly warm after a 40 nin from ordering.

Always enjoy eating at the Pack, whether a family occasion or catching up with friends. The food is of a high standard, and well presented, with the menu changing on a regular basis. All the staff are friendly, approachable and knowledgeable about the food on offer, and always willing to accommodate specific dietary requests. All in all a great experience and one to be highly recommended.

The restaurant was brilliant from top to bottom! The food drinks staff and service was brilliant, will definitely be going back!

We were having a family get together for a birthday. I was impressed that all the food came out at the same time considering we were a party of 8. No one had any problems with their food. The staff member that served us was fantastic, was chatting with us, was very polite when one of the dishes had run out and we had to pick another dish. My only disappointment ( this is minor ) was as a disabled person I had to use the disabled toilet which I found a little unkept and needs a freshen up.

The Sunday roast beef was to die for, however the Yorkshire pudding was rock hard, if they gravy had been poured inside the pudding it would have softened considerably. The roast potatoes were rock hard, we coul not cut through the outer edge and my friend suggested scooping the potato out and at that point wondered if the knives needed sharpening. I discussed the Yorkshire pudding with the waiter and he said he would give our comments to the chef. We were around later to see more Yorkshire puddings arrive at people's tables devoid of gravy and having the same problems that we had so it seems my concern had fell on deaf ears. Fantastic beef.

Fabulous evening at the Pack Horse, lovely place and setting. There were ten of us and we all agreed it was a great meal, good atmosphere and beautiful food. The service was perfect and they couldn't do enough for us. Cannot wait to return.

I took my mother and daughter to The Pack Horse on Friday 2/08/24 for the 'Light Lunch' menu, which we had seen advertised online beforehand. We had travelled quite some distance to get to the venue and had chosen the restaurant because of prior knowledge of its external seating areas and countryside views, having been there some years before. On arrival I asked for copies of the menu and advised the member of staff that we intended to dine outdoors and enjoy the countryside views, given the lovely sunny day it was. When we looked at the menus we were surprised to see that they did not include a section covering the 'Light lunch' menu. I went back into the restaurant and spoke to a male member of staff, whom I believe was the manager. I enquired whether the Light lunch menu was still available and advised him that we had seen it on their website earlier that day. I was told by the staff member that if we were going to order from the Light lunch menu then we would not be allowed to dine outdoors on the terrace! Furthermore, the Light lunch menu was only available inside, which seemed very unusual and a tad discriminatory. Given we had pretty much already made our food choices from what we saw on the website earlier, we were forced to relocate to a table inside the restaurant, which was very disappointing. After ordering a round of drinks they were served relatively quickly. However, it took quite a while before our food order was taken and then too long before it was served. Having said that the restaurant was popular with customers that day and quite busy. Our food choices were all good having selected two courses each from the Light Lunch menu, which was limited albeit very good value at £14.95 per person. Staff service was friendly albeit a bit slow. So in conclusion our visit to the Pack horse was really let down by the fact that we weren't able to be served any food from the Light lunch menu at a table on the external terrace. It could only be served indoors. If this restriction was the official policy of the Pack Horse then that is highly unusual and not truly 'customer focussed'. Furthermore, there was nothing posted on the Pack Horse website to stipulate that food from the 'Light lunch' menu can only be served within the restaurant and not at tables on the external terrace. If that is the policy then the Pack Horse's website needs to state that.

Fantastic food and desserts Service was excellent too with staff being friendly. Would recommend booking as it was very busy at lunchtime

Been many times now and every visit is as good as the last. Will be going again very soon.

5 Sunday roasts 1 fish chips1 children’s meat balls. Fish and chips were good, my daughter enjoyed it My granddaughter didn’t like the spaghetti but she’s 5 so 🤷 Very disappointed with the Sunday roast Yorkshires were very dry, the gravy wasn’t great, roast potatoes (3) were hard to cut into and no mash! Veg was great, meat nicely cooked. Charge extra£3 for the duo (2 meats) but then only give one slice of each whereas you get 2 slices on a regular meal. The girls serving was very pleasant, don’t sit near the kitchen there’s banging and crashing which is annoying.

Outstanding and well worth a visit. Whilst visiting family we visited for dinner. The environment and ambience is lovely - Is clean, modern, welcoming. The staff are exceptional - all happy and smiling and looking like they actually want to be there which in my experience is rare in hospitality. The food was amazing - I had a sweet potato Dahl followed by Eton mess. Will definitely be back and would highly recommend. I wish there was somewhere like this closer to where I live. It’s a rare find!

Lovely place for a family Sunday lunch.

First time I came last week and the food was amazing I only had a starter but it was so nice so I can’t wait to try a main meal but the staff were lovely and I can’t wait to bring the kids and try a Sunday roast.
