The restaurant wasn’t very busy and watching the staff delivering food it didn’t look like the outside area was either. So there is no excuse for the time it took to deliver our food, also when the food arrived it was evident that it had been sat under heat lamps for a reasonable period of time. Generally the food and service we have had here has been better. The drinks prices are pretty high with a double spirit and mixer coming in at about £13.

Very disappointed in food. Ordered the turkey roast and it was dry and over cooked. Almost seemed burnt around the turkey edge. Yorkshire pudding was too solid and very crispy. Ordered a burger as well which was decent. It was a shame that the roast doesn’t come with mash potatoes as I felt it would’ve been a great addition especially with the roast potatoes being almost inedible at the sheer solidity of them. Atmosphere is good. Service was okay at best but staff seemed hesitant to talk and very awkward when taking our orders and menus away. Drinks were good. Overall a bit disappointed but would never make a fuss.

Wouldn't be rushing back . Very disappointed, forgot our starters said it would then come out with the mains and would be knocked off the bill ... never appeared then told we would have a free dessert instead. Chips very overdone and the whole plate had obviously been sat drying out under the lights .Dessert was a very dry and hard meringue not chewy at all , then issues with the card machine trying to pay . Over heard the table opposite complaining also regarding the food. Shame as this place was recommended to us .

I have eaten here several time in the past and it’s been just lovely. However, I cannot believe how much the food has declined now. The Scampi was barely warm and it was soggy, undercooked. Within 2 hours of leaving both me and my friend had pain and an upset stomach. Thick chips just crisps and no potato, overcooked. UPDATE - on being invited to return. Can happily say it was a one off. Food was beautiful, service was great. Great choice of food on the menu.

Lovely meal. Friendly and professional staff and friendly service. I visited with a friend for lunch and ate from the fixed menu. The main menu has lots of choice too. I will visit here again based off my experience eating here. It is also dog friendly and there is a lovely terrace to sit out when the weather permits with fantastic views. Word of advice arrive early if you want a space on the car park it fills up quickly. All in all I recommend this restaurant and I will definitely eat here again.

Always enjoy eating at the Pack, whether a family occasion or catching up with friends. The food is of a high standard, and well presented, with the menu changing on a regular basis. We were having a family get together for a birthday. I was impressed that all the food came out at the same time considering we were a party of 8. No one had any problems with their food. The staff member that served us was fantastic, was chatting with us, was very polite when one of the dishes had run out and we had to pick another dish. My only disappointment ( this is minor ) was as a disabled person I had to use the disabled toilet which I found a little unkept and needs a freshen up.

The Sunday roast beef was to die for, however the Yorkshire pudding was rock hard, if they gravy had been poured inside the pudding it would have softened considerably. The roast potatoes were rock hard, we coul not cut through the outer edge and my friend suggested scooping the potato out and at that point wondered if the knives needed sharpening. I discussed the Yorkshire pudding with the waiter and he said he would give our comments to the chef. We were around later to see more Yorkshire puddings arrive at people's tables devoid of gravy and having the same problems that we had so it seems my concern had fell on deaf ears. Fantastic beef.

I took my mother and daughter to The Pack Horse on Friday 2/08/24 for the 'Light Lunch' menu, which we had seen advertised online beforehand. We had travelled quite some distance to get to the venue and had chosen the restaurant because of prior knowledge of its external seating areas and countryside views, having been there some years before. On arrival I asked for copies of the menu and advised the member of staff that we intended to dine outdoors and enjoy the countryside views, given the lovely sunny day it was. When we looked at the menus we were surprised to see that they did not include a section covering the 'Light lunch' menu. I went back into the restaurant and spoke to a male member of staff, whom I believe was the manager. I enquired whether the Light lunch menu was still available and advised him that we had seen it on their website earlier that day. I was told by the staff member that if we were going to order from the Light lunch menu then we would not be allowed to dine outdoors on the terrace! Furthermore, the Light lunch menu was only available inside, which seemed very unusual and a tad discriminatory. Given we had pretty much already made our food choices from what we saw on the website earlier, we were forced to relocate to a table inside the restaurant, which was very disappointing. After ordering a round of drinks they were served relatively quickly. However, it took quite a while before our food order was taken and then too long before it was served. Having said that the restaurant was popular with customers that day and quite busy. Our food choices were all good having selected two courses each from the Light Lunch menu, which was limited albeit very good value at £14.95 per person. Staff service was friendly albeit a bit slow. So in conclusion our visit to the Pack horse was really let down by the fact that we weren't able to be served any food from the Light lunch menu at a table on the external terrace. It could only be served indoors. If this restriction was the official policy of the Pack Horse then that is highly unusual and not truly 'customer focussed'. Furthermore, there was nothing posted on the Pack Horse website to stipulate that food from the 'Light lunch' menu can only be served within the restaurant and not at tables on the external terrace. If that is the policy then the Pack Horse's website needs to state that.

Fish and chips were good, my daughter enjoyed it My granddaughter didn’t like the spaghetti but she’s 5 so 🤷 Very disappointed with the Sunday roast Yorkshires were very dry, the gravy wasn’t great, roast potatoes (3) were hard to cut into and no mash! Veg was great, meat nicely cooked. Charge extra£3 for the duo (2 meats) but then only give one slice of each whereas you get 2 slices on a regular meal. The girls serving was very pleasant, don’t sit near the kitchen there’s banging and crashing which is annoying.

I've just called again with friends and everything was great except the meal, unfortunately I ordered a halloumi salad and was disappointed with the size, just 2 pieces of hallumi, a few leaves, a couple of halved cherry tomatoes and some buck wheat all doused in an oil dressing for £15! My friends had a steak salad and a watermelon and feta cheese salad and they all got loads more steak and cheese! Perhaps you were short of halloumi! Definitely not worth the price. Great menu, although a little light on the vegan/vegetarian options. Lovely modern decor in keeping with the age of the pub, with cosy tweets and woods in the old part and light & modern in the conservatory. Plenty of outdoor seating with great views for those sunny day's and social distancing.

Updating my previous review from 1star to 5 star. We went back to the Pack Horse after the team reaching out to me. We instantly could tell we just got unlucky the day we initially came to visit. The food, service and the atmosphere was superb and the sun decided to appear for June, finally. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sadly another pub that charges restaurant prices, however the food and table service lacks nowhere near. Ordered fish and chips along with cheese and onion pie for my partner. When both meals arrived the fish and pie had been obviously stood for incredibly long time under heat lamps or oven. However, the chips and garnish were fresh. We asked the table waiter to look at what had been served and he politely agreed. The kitchen then severed fresh cheese and onion pie and fresh fish. The fish was soaked in oil and the chips had not been replaced so they all came back out just barely warm due to the wait on the new main meals. We used to love visiting here for a treat and at these prices it is a treat for us. Why would a head chef be happy with letting these dishes leave their kitchen. Such a shame, expensive mistake. The young waiter was very polite and apologetic.

Found this on a Google search and took a drive out to try it. Impressive building from outside with lovely scenery. Once inside we were asked if wanted to sit in the main area or in the conservatory. We chose the main area but I suspect the conservatory would be a great choice in the summer months considering the view you probably would get from there. I had already decided to go with the three course set lunch at £17.95. My brother opted for just a mains and went with the Classic Beef burger with fries at £16.50. Was quite impressed with the menu as seemed a decent number of options. The set lunch gave a choice of 4 starters, 4 mains and the same for desserts. It looks like this gets changed on a regular basis as the lunch menu I got was not the same as the one on their internet site. My starter was Black Pudding and Smoked Bacon salad. Very well presented and very tasty but would have liked a bit more black pudding and bacon. Still, a good start to the meal. For mains I got Sausage ( pork and leek) and Mash. Sausages were nice. Mash was as well. Well mashed with no lumps but a relatively small portion and, for me, could have done with some more butter. I thought the gravy was quite thin and not really very tasty. Didn’t add anything to the dish for me. My brothers burger looked good. It was piping hot and he enjoyed it. However, right from the off he said his fries were a bit cold. They looked quite pale, almost underdone but I tried one and it tasted ok but it was cold. In hindsight he should have raised it with one of our servers at the time rather than after the meal. Should really have asked for them to be replaced. Maybe there was an issue in the plating up in the kitchen because his burger was red hot. For dessert I had ordered the Strawberry, Rhubarb and Gooseberry Crumble. It was served with ice cream. I asked the server about this as was sure menu said custard. He replied that it came with the option of either. I didn’t get asked for my choice. I checked after and the menu does say custard. I didn’t bother me but it might if a customer has any allergens. We were not asked if we had any before ordering. We don’t but always nice to be asked. Putting that to one side the dessert and the ice cream were delicious. The crumble was piping hot. One of the servers confirmed they were home made on the premises. I would have liked a bigger portion though. One, because I’m greedy. Two, because it was delicious. We finished our meal with a cappuccino each. We were asked if we wanted sugar when they were served and it was nice to see no sugar rationing here. We got a glass jar packed with both brown and white cubes. And the coffees were excellent. We noticed about 6 or 7 staff seemed to be on duty. We were served by at least 4 different ones. Much prefer to have the same person serving on but have to say all the staff who dealt with us appeared very polite and well mannered. And they were able to answer any questions we had or were happy to go into the kitchen to check. Would give one of them 10 out of 10 for his observational skills. My brother had taken his last sip of San Miguel and barely got the empty glass to the table when the young man was straight over asking if he would like another. So overall despite one or two little issues a pretty good dining experience. The lunch time set menu served between 12 and 5pm, Monday to Friday, is excellent value for money and I would recommend it. The establishment is a little out of the way for us and is therefore unlikely to become one of our regular dining venues. But I’d be happy to dine here again and would recommend it for a visit especially on a summers day to admire the location and views.

Went as a party of fifteen for a 60th birthday meal on Sunday. Starters & main was pre-ordered. Soon as I sat down starter's came but I did arrive 15mins late ok. I ordered chilli beef skewers taste was very bland beef was very chewy fatty. Soon as I finished mains came half roast chicken looked like boiled potatoes green beans red cabbage little gravy bit of what looked like stuffing & lge yourshire pud. Well the chicken was very overcooked skin was welded very tough dry. Green beans were very tough as just dipped in hot water. Potatoes has no taste. Stuffing was ok but looked processed. Red cabbage was all over the plate not neatly placed. The yorrshire resembled cake. I asked for more gravy don't think it was home made (bisto) to moisture the chicken. Left half of main not impressed at all looked at other plates down the table mostly half eaten. I ordered dessert with cappuccino recieved cappuccino but no dessert only to find that it was given to someone else. I did not complain at the time as did not want to upset my friend who's 60th it was. Only to discover today that others did not enjoy there experience also. We was then asked to give our tables up as soon as desserts were finished by others they were booked for another slot. We felt yeah we've had your money now go. After spending must be over £500. Not impressed at all won't be coming back so will other family & friends.

Went to go for food on a mid week evening, was not greeted by anyone. Found a table and when going to the bar to order, was told “we saw you come in and the table you’re sat at is reserved (there was nothing on the table to show it was reserved)” the condescending tone and approach by the young lad slumped behind the till (not even asking what I’d like to drink) was very off-putting when I was simply taking my mother out for dinner. We both agreed we will not be coming to the pack horse again having been coming here for a number of years. Very much negative impression of the team who clearly have no passion for keeping loyal customers. **UPDATE** Thank you for your reply Pack Horse Owner, it is clear to me that my review was not read properly as nothing related to what day we visited. Either your staff are behaving differently to you than when in front of customers or you’re oblivious to their behaviours. Also, dining in the conservatory was not offered, in fact the staff member behind the bar (sat on a stool) made no effort to even get up to locate a suitable table. The defensive tone of your reply tells me that you don’t see that anything needs improving despite me not being the only reviewer to point out the lack of customer service for the price point of your products/services. Your reply has made it very clear to me that the staff take the lead from the management in this instance.

The Pack Horse never fails to deliver, visited many, many times as there is a monthly changing menu choice, fantastic value 2 or 3 course lunch time menu, and a good selection of drinks. The staff are friendly, efficient nothing is too much trouble, and pleasant to talk to Will be back in the warmer weather when I can sit outside with my fabulous food looking at the fabulous views

We have been many times to the Pack Horse and never once been disappointed, on this occasion there were 11 people and 2 dogs for Sunday lunch, it was as always amazing, the food was delicious and hot, everyone enjoyed their choice of food, the drinks aplenty and service was second to none, we were also celebrating our friends 60th birthday and nothing was too much trouble for the waiter to bring out the cake that we had turned up with, complete with lit candles and joining in the fun and birthday song. If you have never been please go and if you have, keep going, we have to support business to keep them alive and this business is certainly not complacent about what they deliver day in, day out. Already looking forward to my next visit.

A problem with the food served for Xmas Day 2023 dinner was resolved immediately by the management team. No fuss, no bother. A compensatory "no limits" meal for two which could be taken at anytime, was offered. ( taken today). Welcomed back to the pub with excellent service from the staff. Service as it should always be. Recommended!

We have never been disappointed at the Packhorse and tonight’s Valentines menu was no exception. The staff are always friendly and helpful without being pushy. Tonight’s waitress (Dorothy) almost had a sixth sense as to what we wanted or would like to make our evening special.

Visited today with my family for a meal with a relative who lives nearby. The food was brilliant, the service was great, the pub was spotlessly clean and the location was very good. Would definitely recommend to others.

This was our second visit to the Pack Horse. I was disappointed that the Fish Pie wasn’t on the menu this time, but very happy with my choice of the Chicken, Leek and Cheese pie. It was absolutely delicious! If I was to be picky, the chicken in the pie was sparse (just two small pieces ), but the sauce, although a bit watery, was so tasty and ideal for dipping the chips in! The desserts were also delicious and beautifully presented. Sadly my latte was cold, so I didn’t really drink it, but that’s my only niggle!

My family of 8 had pre-booked dinner on a quiet Tuesday. The booking kept changing in numbers but the staff were very accommodating on arrival, even swapping tables which must have been annoying to them. If so, they did not show it. Drinks and food were served exactly right and the quality was superb. We go often to the Pack and have never been disappointed. Highly recommended and we’ll see you again.

We were really looking forward to dining here on Sunday. The staff were helpful and friendly. Unfortunately the food didn’t live up to expectations. The soup was spoilt by the overpowering taste of sage and the bread was a little stale though warm. The main was spoilt by cold chips and a lukewarm grilled steak. I am sure we were just unlucky on our choice of courses as the general reviews are extremely positive . Today unfortunately have an upset stomach and feel unwell. I only had the meal in the pub on Sunday and nothing else all day.

Visited on Friday without a reservation. The staff were able to seat us even with the restaurant being very busy. The atmosphere was lovely people enjoying family events, and the log fire was burning, aiding to the cosy atmosphere The food was beautiful. We had the lamb, and the Guinness was perfectly poured. I couldn't fault the staff and the service was great The coffee and the sharing dessert finished the evening off nicely. Thanks for having us, and this was an easy 5 star review !

Another absolutely delicious meal here ! From the pork belly and black pudding to the sticky toffee pudding and all the several dishes in between! We had a great night! Staff as always so nice so professional and knowledgeable about what is on the menu! That makes a massive difference when you don’t know what to have because you’re spoiled for choice! Wine was fabulous but we did have a couple of bottles just to make sure! The beer was “a great pint” according to the husbands! And the setting is just fabulous! The roaring fires to the soft lighting and as mentioned the fantastic staff! We love this place it’s not far from home just £10 in a taxi so we’re lucky but if feels like you’re miles away and having a proper night out!
