Wine and Dine at the Red Lion Hotel in Bury

Out walking and stumbled across this gem! Turned up on a Sunday afternoon and although busy with bookings were so accommodating. Cheese and onion pie was lovely, a vegan option Sunday roast was fabulous and desserts were gorgeous. Kids menu great. Staff were all lovely and friendly. Will definitely be visiting again.

I tried the online booking but it kept giving me an error code, then I tried calling twice but no one picked up. We dove there to find a half empty car park, walked in to see at least 10 empty tables. When asked if I’d booked I explained the issues with their systems but no “cares” where given, then I was told we would we would have to wait at least 30 mins as “we are fully booked”!?!? It just felt like they couldn’t be bothered, at all! Severely gone down hill!

Absolutely beautiful hotel, fantastic

Held my Dad’s 80th here so we had a table booked for 12 and it was great from start to finish. The staff were very attentive all evening and couldn’t do enough for us. Nothing was too much trouble, even though my daughter has specific dietary issues and all the meals were enjoyed and clean plates all around They brought in the cake with some plates and a knife at the end and the lady who had dealt with us most of the evening really helped make it special I don’t know her name but it was Saturday 25th Jan at 7pm

The Sunday roast was the best we've ever had "out". The quality of the meats was amazing and the endless Yorkshires were as good as anybody's. Service was friendly and appropriately attentive. Very good value - if that's your thing you should try Lees' Stout as well!

Excellent night’s stay , good evening meal and breakfast,staff brilliant can’t fault this place,beer great.tip if you drink Guinness try there own stout it’s £1.55 a pint cheaper and just as nice 👌

Lovely break in a pleasant British pub with a good service

I like staying at the Red Lion for business travel. Friendly staff, excellent food and a comfortable room all for excellent value. I will return as often as a room is available.

A delightful and cozy ambiance, even on the coldest of days, paired with exquisite dishes that are beautifully arranged. A gem! Will come again !

Everyone friendly, plenty of parking, bed really comfortable, lovely sleep. Breakfast available from 7 and was tasty. Rooms need a little love in places

We went for a Sunday roast, and unfortunately left very disappointed. The meat was so dry, the Yorkshire pudding burnt, mash soggy and the roasties were tiny and had no flavour whatsoever. A pint of Guinness is also £6.20, which is more like London prices - ridiculous! The staff were friendly, however we could get so much more for our money elsewhere. We definitely won’t be returning.

Took elderly parents boxing day very chilled and great food

Lovely , warm , welcoming, traditional pub with great food . We stayed the night and enjoyed a comfortable en suite room with a tasty breakfast cooked to order . Highly recommend.

Had the Christmas dinner on Christmas Day very disappointed won’t be booking it again. Veg all stewed/overcooked, burnt fried roast potatoes and meat awful. You would have thought with the cost in Christmas Day they would have made an effort.

Went with family overnight. Fantastic food, great atmosphere. Very good prices. Highly recommend if you are looking to stay somewhere when in this area.

Food was excellent, the steak and ale pie was devine.

This was my 2nd stay at the Red Lion, and it was as good as the first. The rooms are very comfortable. The beds also, there is an excellent menu. In fact the food is brilliant, I recommend, The Steak and JW Lees ale pie, it was absolutely delicious. I ate it a couple of times. The whole menu is excellent. Most evenings I spent in the bar which has a super collection of beers from JW Lees. The MPA (Manchester Pale Ale) was my favourite. This is a great place to stay but it is the staff that make it so. I was very well looked after during my stay, Do I want to go back? Oh Yes!

Great little pub, good well portioned food, friendly helpful staff. No double rooms available to last minute booking so had a twin. The mattresses weren't the best but ok.

Toilet didn't flush well the flush was broken. No toilet roll. Window drafty. Room was very nice. Polite staff. I would stay again but make sure the toilet was working

This is a lovely pub. The staff were very welcoming and pleasant. Service was great and the food was very good.

We chose to stay here as it was my sisters 40th birthday and we were going out o the Lancashire steam train so this was a great location to stay. When we arrived it’s set in a beautiful rural village and was an attractive setting. Free car park and safe. Check in was friendly and easy. Room was for 3 of us, great size, clean and good amenities. We had a great sleep, mum said her pillow wasn’t great but overall good. Tea and coffee facilities were good. My sister and I went out for an early walk with great views just across from the hotel. We didn’t book breakfast but they let us have some toast with compliments. We then had Sunday lunch which was superb. There was three of us but they recommended the roast sharer for two as there was a lot and it was perfect! They gave my sister a birthday card and Prosecco as a surprise for her 40th which was a nice touch. We spoke to a few people who stayed and we all had great things to say. Will definitely be back!

We only had an evening meal here, we didn't stay over so I cannot comment on the bedrooms. The food was excellent, all 4 of us enjoyed everything we ate. I had cheese and onion pie with garden peas and chips with cheese and chive sauce and the chips were great, thick and crispy, some of the best I've had in a long time. My friends had; fish and chips, it's the biggest battered fish I've ever seen, it hung over both ends of the plate and the other friend had lamb shank and said that it was delicious. Nb. You can choose gravy instead of cheese sauce and beans or mushy peas instead of garden peas. Very reasonable prices and beautifully decorated in the restaurant part of the pub. Definitely recommend.

Booked a few rooms for a family wedding nearby, good food, friendly staff and good rooms. Would highly recommend

Had two nights here as part of a week traveling around the area. From check in onwards, it was perfect...friendly and helpful staff, amazing food, perfect location. Thoroughly recommended

We love this place. Been going for the last couple of months and eaten outside with family members a couple of times when the weather permitted - they liked it too. We live in Rossendale and it is our favourite place to have a little run out for a meal. All the staff have been friendly and helpful and the food we have eaten has been lovely. The atmosphere has been extremely pleasant on each occasion. What more can you ask for? We would definitely recommend 😁 x

My partner didn't like the veg on the Sunday roast menu so she just had Cauliflower cheese roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding when the bill came they only charged half price excellent service and good food, hope I'm not getting someone into trouble by disclosing the half price meal 👍

We loved our stay here. We were made to feel so welcome. Our room was spacious and comfy. Plenty of hot water in the bathroom. Our daughter and son-in-law came to join us for a meal which we all thoroughly enjoyed. Plenty of parking. We will definitely be back.

3 of us had 3 different Sunday lunches including one veggie, all superb. Great veg and potato selection, all cooked perfectly. Service friendly and efficient. Will definitely go back

Lovely hotel, in a quiet country village, we chose a pub stay in a village purposely, just to experience it. Great food. Service friendly and welcoming. Comfortable bed and lovely room.

Great food and friendly staff. We’re so pleased that we left room for the divine desserts! Very surprised to get a discount off steak on a Saturday.

We love the food here and the staff are very friendly and efficient. Little bit of a treat as the food plates are averaging £15 to £20 for a main but wel worth it. Our dogs are also very content here too.

Very nice food and drink. It's a building with character and the staff friendly. Also enjoyed going for a walk that was just a cross the road. Will be doing all that again. 👍

Stayed a few nights at the Red Lion. Room was great. Comfortable beds, extra pillows (always nice). Nice tea, coffee, water and cookies in the room. Good water pressure and lots of hot water. Breakfast was amazing. Small cereal buffet and toast plus plenty of options on the cooked to order menu. Vegan/veg options. Plus you could just order what you like from the menu anyways. Stayed for dinner one night. Excellent meals. Staff are friendly and efficient. Good parking. Good overall location. Quiet at night. Would stay again if in the area.

For an inn it was very attractive! Very comfortably furnished. The room was also very nice. You had everything you needed, The staff was super friendly and helpful! Our dog also felt very comfortable and relaxed. We would come again if the road took us there!

Came here for Sunday lunch. I had the vegetarian option and I have to say it was delicious. Hubby had the turkey option and he said his was delicious too. Would highly recommend this place for Sunday lunch, thoroughly enjoyed it 😀 👌.

Quaint bar/restaurant with a decked balcony area. Appeared to be perfect for date night. Went for a midweek family meal. They do have a limited 2 & 3 course weekly deal. I went off the main menu which had plenty of choice. I had the tower burger and fries. The fries and onion rings are so crunchy, absolutely delicious. The pies had a pretty thin crust and again no complaints on the pies, large portions. Cocktails seemed to be popular. Large free car park. Would definitely recommend

Stayed here for 1 night in the room which sleeps 4. We were going to a wedding at the wellbeing farm. We thought the room was lovely. We really liked the decor. The beds were comfy. Little extras in the room like biscuits with the teas, bottled water, shower gel and shampoo. Had some chips in the bar before we left which were really nice! Breakfast was also really nice! Sorted the hangover right out. All the staff were really nice and friendly. Were thinking if staying again to explore some walks. Saw a few other people staying there had been hiking.

We stayed one night at the Red Lion and were very impressed both by the accommodation and in particular the quality of food in the restaurant. Breakfast was cooked to order and delicious.

A great place to stay…. All the Staff were helpful…. a shout out to Emily for giving us a warm welcome. Rooms are great and plenty to choose from on the menu, if you enjoy a hearty breakfast give the full English a go you won’t be disappointed!!

Thursday 15/8/24 . Popped in today . Welcome great as always food great. Recommend to anybody. Called in today just for a drink 04 /02/24 as always a friendly welcome even though they were very busy with meals..Had a great meal again. Always enjoy my visits. Called in on the way home we had a burger each. One of the best that Ive had.staff friendly good atmosphere. They like dogs. Great place to go .

On walking into the Red Lion you immediately feel relaxed as you are met by friendly staff. The room was really nice, immaculately clean & beds were comfy. We had breakfast and evening meal and couldn’t fault the food or the service.

Great service, great food. Very quick turn around time from the kitchen. Great atmosphere and good outside seating. At busy times the carpark can be very tight so be weary of that if you visit

Amazing little hotel. Staff where super nice and attentive. Great price for what you get. Beds super comfy. Decor really cute in the room we stayed in. Great location, easy access for visiting towns and countryside. Quite rooms and peaceful stay with friendly welcoming staff.

Been for a meal with friends. What a disappointment. Two of us had Smoked Haddock Risotto but we could not find any fish. Others had fish and chips but the fish was burnt. Overall a poor meal which the chef should be ashamed to serve. All agreed never return.

It’s a nice pub with spacious well equipped rooms. They are helpful to accommodate and the breakfasts is great too.

Lovely pub for a lovely meal with table service. Sat in conservatory with view onto outside seating, not much view which is a shame and owners gardens could be tidier as this is the view. Staff polite and attentive mostly.

Four of us had lunch here. Car park was almost full, but found a space. Food was delicious, starters, main course and a dessert plus drinks for under £90.

Another lovely stay at this countryish pub with rooms. Comfortable and not over fussy. Decent bed and shower. The usual tea and coffee but also has biscuits. Good selection of beers, own brands and a selection of others. Food is a delight with things you don't usually find in pub menus and is reasonably priced.

Staying for 1 night on business and this is great location…working in Bolton tomorrow and only a 15 minute drive away while being slightly out in the country. Room is gorgeous, everything tastefully done, staff are super helpful and friendly AND the food was delicious….good choice available meaning I could have something healthier. Will be back for sure next time I am working up this way. Thank you 🙏

We called last Saturday for steak night we had booked a table for 6.30 only had one fillet no t bone I ended up with ribeye served with no salad we had to ask and what they fetched was pathetic we waited ages for it and it wasn’t busy the phone was ringing nobody could be bothered to answer it the waited ages for the sweet we ordered sticky toffee pudding but trust me it was ginger cake we asked for the bill got ignored then asked someone else took ages absolutely won’t be going there again

The Red Lion is to be recommended,excellent helpful staff, We had a very pleasant stay Room was very clean Comfy bed Breakfast was 5 star,can certainly recommend the omelette which was delicious A vey enjoyable stay

Lovely building, well appointed inside. Service was welcoming and the food was fantastic. Proper homecooked taste and well presented. Elaine our waiter was attentive and seen to our every need.

Really lovely meal with my family, we all enjoyed our hot fresh food! Bar service was fantastic, she was so friendly and welcoming and even brought my drink to the table as I was on crutches! Will definitely be back and recommending to friends!

Unfortunately we didn't stay we only meet up for a coffee but the coffee machine was broken so had to do with jar coffee.

I came here with friends for a meal for my birthday and was very disappointed. I ordered the 6oz steak with chips and when asked how I would like my steak I requested it medium. When my meal arrived the steak was overcooked and the chips were either hot or cold and some were even uncooked in the middle. One of my friends meal was also cold on arrival at the table and she asked for it to be replaced but it came back within 2 minutes (obviously re- heated in a microwave) . Not a very good experience at all.

I enjoyed a lovely stay in a large corner room and was met and assisted with a late night, flat tire arrival. Day staff were friendly and made local calls to arrange for my tire to be replaced the following morning.

Unbelievable value for money considering the quality of food on the special lunch menu . Great , friendly service by all the staff. A real gem of a place to have some lunch.

Stayed for one night whilst playing golf in the area to be told it was Pie and a pint night, the food was excellent and the pint just as good ( followed by a few more). A good choice for Breakfast the following morning, all well cooked and faultless service. Will definitely stay again if in the area.

Staff were very friendly, rooms were comfortable and clean. The food was great. The addition of the electric charge point was an added bonus.

Leaving the review for the food. As we didn't stay at the pub. Been twice now and both times the food was very good and very fairly priced. The staff on both occasions were lovely.

We stayed at The Red Lion, Bury for one night as we were going to a family Wedding, It’s a lovely country pub, the room was lovely and very clean, we had a nice meal before we went to the wedding and we were given a key to let ourselves in if we were going to be late. The bed was nice and comfortable and breakfast was lovely . The Sunday roast was recommended so we thought we would try it and it was very nice it was a choice of Turkey, Beef or Gammon we had plenty of meat, we were even given a “doggy” bag so we could bring some meat home for our cats. The staff were very friendly And they are dog friendly, The only thing is they have no lift or stairlift and my mobility isnt very good

We love to have a drive to this place at weekends for a nice pub lunch. Food is excellent and dogs are welcome In the bar area 😀

Nice country pub serving good food with friendly staff and great for dogs.

We stayed at the Red Lion Bury for one night recently and were welcomed by the staff. The room was clean and comfortable and the tea and coffee in the room was very helpful. We were delighted with the welcome for our small dog too. We enjoyed a lovely meal and were able to meet up with our son who was living not far from the hotel and he enjoyed his meal of fish and chips. I liked the unusual choices on the menu which included 'black pudding mash!'. The staff were very friendly throughout our stay and we would definately recommend the Red Lion. Its location is very convenient for Bury Market and Burrs Country Park to name only two.

Great Pub food and drink. Good atmosphere on a Tuesday night. Brilliant gluten free options for the Coeliac in our party.

The Staff here are amazing. So friendly and kind. Being a disable Widow of a certain age, this is so refreshing and I have no qualms about going in on my own. I go every week and the food is always spot on. Never once had a bad meal. Recommended it to Family and Friends who all agree. Thanks to ALL the LOVELY Staff for looking after me. People I know who have stayed here say the accommodation is good too.

Excellent place to stay the rooms a good size and clean. Friendly and helpful staff. Food was really tasty, will definitely be booking here again on our next trip back home to ramsbottom

Friends from the USA were staying at the “Red Lion “ during a whistle stop trip to the UK . They invited us to join them for an evening meal . The staff were friendly and helpful and the ambiance good . We shared three starters between the four of us . Burrata , garlic mushrooms and squid . All very tasty . For our main course we had one smaller portion fish and chips , one fish and chips , one fish topped with a poached egg and resting on risotto and one chalk stream trout with sauté potatoes and broccoli . This latter one was my choice and it was beautifully cooked and delicious . We all enjoyed our meals . Thank you to all the staff for making us feel welcome and providing such an excellent meal. Highly recommend .

Great country pub. We had a great Sunday lunch with arctic roll and lemon torte desert. Good service and prices.

A perfect place to stay for the night. Close enough to Bury with lovely countryside surrounding the area. Very picturesque. The hotel and restaurant also has lovely decor and great hospitality. Would definitely recommend.
