Called in with the family on a whim. I had heard that a new chef was in and had heard good reports regarding quality etc. I know the pub well and it certainly is well looked after, the fire a massive bonus, service was warm and friendly, menus pointed out to us. There was quite a range of dishes and I settled on lasagne, mum and dad had the sea bass and hubby had the venison. The food was amazing, presentation immaculate. We couldn't manage a dessert but enjoyed a gin or 2 after. Well worth a visit.

We stopped here today for afternoon tea while on a day tour. We had an amazing afternoon tea which was fresh and delicious with lots of cakes to choose from and only with 5 minutes until they stopped serving lunch. The staff were amazing and accommodated us and even boxed the left over food for us as we were called back to the tour bus earlier than expected. We also loved the pot of freshly brewed tea which was lovely and the courtyard outside was so pretty with colourful flowers and a very relaxed vibe. I only wish we had longer to relax here but we will definitely be back.

Visited Grange Over sands for the day recently and popped into this little place for lunch. They offer something different in that they have English and Phillapeano dishes. They have a lovely terrace that you can sit overlooking the bay. Both of us had omelette freshly cooked absolutely lovely. We also had Portuguese tarts which the lady who owns and runs the place makes herself, they are delicious highly recommend! Some ladies at the table next to us had Phillapeano dishes and they smelt amazing. Coffee was really good too. Reasonably priced as well. Definitely worth a visit.

After a rainy guided tour of Port Sunlight we were cold and hungry, the gallery cafe was just across the road and was just what we needed. Had reasonably priced jacket potato with chilli and salad which was very good. The cafe is a bit dark and dismal but the food was good.

Very friendly service, high quality fresh cooked cod, chips and battered sausage. Went here in the evening to get dinner before I got on the train at Ainsdale, the fish and chips shop is right next to Ainsdale train station. Really tasty fish and chips. Recommended!

When booking I specified that I was intolerant to dairy and wheat and that my wife was on the banting diet so no carbs. I was very surprised that no effort had been made to put on starters that I could eat. All I could choose from was Soup or the day, Chicken Liver Pate or Sticky Chicken Wings. I chose the latter. There was little to no meat on the wings and they were heavily spiced with chilli and not to my liking at all. Personally, I would have preferred, scallops, prawn cocktail or garlic prawns. My wife loved her Grilled Halloumi. For mains I chose Sirloin Steak with no tomatoes and some asparagus and my wife the Braised Lamb Henry. I asked for my steak extremely well done/cremated. It was medium to well done and not really to my liking as it was very watery as if it had been defrosted from frozen. The chips and mushrooms were good but alas the Asparagus was tinned, had that been mentioned I would have had frozen peas instead. My wife's lamb was smothered in way too much gravy and was not as good as on previous occasions. In the past we have been very happy with the food and the service at this restaurant but alas the quality of the food and the menu selection has gotten worse on each visit. We have enjoyed the times we have had here but this will become our last choice in restaurants to visit in future.

Ordered large cod lightly battered fish medium chips - worst fish & chips ever had! Fish was paper thin, all batter, must of got 2 mouthfuls from the whole fish! Must be buying cheapest cuts of fish from wholesalers then making huge profit £8 for fish Chips not much better full of eyes and also large container sat outside toilet full of peeled potatoes No hygiene whatsoever! Cramped tables back of shop lacking in hygiene
