This place is unreal! Honestly you could not write how bad it is, it’s that bad you just have to laugh. There is absolutely no organisation at all. There were 3 waiting on members of staff, none of which had a clue. They wandered around aimlessly with food & drinks with absolutely no idea what table they were for. They were in & out of the kitchen with the same plates of food, it was just bizarre. One table, while we were there, were given their mains at the same time as their starters! We had to ask for our table to be cleared, if you asked for anything it took them at least 20 minutes. I have never seen such poor service. Food was ok, nothing special. The only reason to return would be the comedy value, you cannot believe your eyes!

Absolutely fantastic food. Well presented and delicious. Really friendly, professional service all round. A real gem we will be back.

Lots of tasty food. Great service attentive but not intrusive. Will definitely dine here again. Was sat in the restaurant area and it was very comfortable.

A cosy little hotel with a warm welcome, clean comfortable rooms, good food and drink. Our double was a little small but had a good bed, tv, Wi-Fi, bathroom and shower. The restaurant food was lovely and tasty. We had fish and chips which was a fabulous sized cod and a dirty chicken burger which was very tasty. Red wine Rioja was excellent too rounded off with some Peroni. Breakfast was good but no croissants which was surprising. We played some pool and also The car park surprisingly also had a few EV chargers too. Constructive improvement comments: 1. The breakfast options could include some pastries, I really wanted a croissant. Also offer different egg ways. -boiled, poached etc 2. Breakfast times are a bit early closing 3. Clear the untidy view of the upturned chairs and from the restaurant annexe window

Had a lovely dinner in a Sunday evening. Still serving Sunday roast at 6:30 and after a long day walking was lovely. Pleasant bar manager and would highly recommend

We only had breakfast as we only stayed one night. The breakfast was very good and our stay very comfortable.

we had a nice 3 night stay here. breakfast was amazing!!!!! desserts were amazing!!!!😍 staff were SO polite and the location was very good. the only downside is the room being a little small for us, the main bed was comfortable and big but the children’s bed was too small to share. would recommend this place and would go again.

Food looks good but isn’t particularly tasty. We had steak pie which was only half edible as it was dried solid. Burger was pretty flavourless, chips OK.

Ok we arrived in the area on Friday and looking for somewhere to eat after travelling all day. We found this place and decided to give it a try and what a find, the staff were very accommodating and the service was great bas for the food it was just great I had the steak which was great and the Eaton mess was fantastic. It was so good that we went back with two dog (Did I say that the bar was dog friendly) and again it didn’t disappoint throughly recommend if you are in the ares

Such a little gem ! We’re not from the area just on a little holiday so was hard to scope out where’s tastiest for food but we saw the menu and saw it was only a 15 min walk from our stay & we definitely weren’t disappointed. There’s such an extensive range on the menu but all still amazing quality, the salt and pepper chicken was gorgeous and the chips were to die for. The staff were also so friendly and accommodating. Such good value and price for how many courses we had and the portions, we really hope to be back around Gosforth in the future and if so would definitely stop by again and maybe even try out one of the pods. We called in on the off-chance having left it a bit late on a Saturday evening but the kitchen is open til 9 (8 on Sundays). Nice restaurant area if you didn't want to sit in the bar and varied and interesting menu. The flatbread with chorizo and king prawns was generous and tasty, served with salad, a mayo dip and chips. The penang vegetarian curry came with basmati rice and chips and was delicious. Sadly, we had no room for starters or dessert. Spotlessly clean, lovely staff too. Definitely one to come back to.

The service was friendly and attentive. The dirty burger was well constructed but lacked flavour. With all that was on the burger, it should have been more “wow”.

What a lovely place! We came here 2 nights of our 4 night trip because the food was absolutely incredible. They are happy to reserve you a table in the bar area if you have a dog which was great and there were plenty of quiet corners for us to sit. The salt and pepper chicken was nicer than any I’ve eaten before as were the spring rolls and oumi. Can’t wait to visit again 🥰

Went for an evening meal while staying locally. Ate in the bar which actually looked more comfortable than the restaurant. Menu was not extensive but food was good and reasonably priced. Would visit again.

We enjoyed our break here - stayed for one night with our granddaughters & Border Collie. Room was clean, spacious & tidy. We ate in the bar & the evening meal was lovely, homemade Steak pie & chips was outstanding. Breakfast was plentiful & tasty & staff were accommodating & couldn’t do enough for us! We are a couple. We stayed for 2 nights in room 22. Unfortunately this room is right next to the very noisy extractor which is on whilst food is being served from 7.30 am to 9.30 pm. Besides the noise the room was very hot. We were unable to open the velux windows and didn't really want to because of the noise. The room is quite small. It has been refreshed and has a good shower. There is more that can be done. Smaller furniture would allow for a bed side cabinet to fit each side of the bed. The pillows were flat and need to be replaced. We did ask for a quieter room but there was nothing available. The 2 stars are for the friendly staff and pub grub. We would definitely recommend The Kellbank for a bar meal.

We had a super meal from a varied menu. The food was well cooked and presented although the service was slow due to them being absolutely rammed which demonstrates its popularity. Highly recommended

We ate at the Kellbank three times during our stay in the village. The menu, whilst not extensive, was such that we could have happily chosen any dish and enjoyed! The Massaman curry, Steak pie and the Duo of Lamb were particularly good with good sized portions. Friendly staff and a decent pint of local ale. Asistí un domingo por la noche con mi novio. Hay mucho estacionamiento, lo cual es excelente y la entrada al edificio está bien señalizada con un sistema de sentido único para COVID. Nos recibieron y nos llevaron a nuestra mesa. Las bebidas llegaron rápidamente y también nuestra comida. Mi novio comió el bistec, dijo que estaba un poco exagerado y un poco difícil. Sin embargo, comí una lasaña y estuvo bien, con una guarnición de papas fritas. Creo que es un poco caro para lo que es y está un poco fuera de lo común.

Primera vez en esta parte de los lagos y reservé el Kellbank para una comida el domingo 23 de agosto de 2020 porque todas las críticas decían que era una comida fantástica. En primer lugar, nos llevaron a nuestra mesa con una ventana que da a toda la ropa sucia del hotel y también un área de almacenamiento para el equipo que ya no se usa. Esto me desanimó de inmediato. El menú no tenía una gran selección, así que decidí optar por el rosbif del domingo. Por alguna razón desconocida, me ofrecieron rellenarlo, pero lo rechacé, debe ser un manjar local con rosbif porque nunca había oído hablar de él antes. Mi comida llegó a los 15 minutos de haberla pedido, tibia, el rosbif era más duro que mis botas de cuero, las papas debieron estar cocidas el día anterior porque eran igual de duras y las verduras tenían un sabor extraño. Me quejé con la camarera, que se disculpó y me ofreció otra comida, pero la rechacé. Cuando fuimos a pagar a la barra me volvieron a preguntar cómo estaba la comida y le dije. Se disculpó de nuevo y tomó la comida de la cuenta. Para ser honesto, la camarera debería haberse encargado de esto. De todos modos, definitivamente no estoy de acuerdo con ninguna de las otras críticas y nunca volveré.

La televisión no tenía canales la primera noche, la arreglaron el segundo día y luego solo tenía unos pocos. Sin vista a través de la ventana, solo una pared. El personal hace todo lo posible, pero se sobrecargó notablemente. Era demasiado caro para la habitación. La comida era normal, el servicio de desayuno en nuestro último día fue caótico.

Super hotel, great room and lovely food. The service, in trying times, was excellent. One gentleman was run off his feet all day and back there at breakfast. You’re lucky to have him. Thank you!

We've stayed here a few times. As always lovely room and great food. Unfortunately problems with noisy kids til 3am causing no sleep and ruined weekend. Whilst not their fault as such there should be a way of contacting them if theres any problems. Internal phone not working. Raised with booking out staff but they advised Manager not available and no contact details asked for. Shame as we used this B&B; often. Bar staff lovely though and food great. Rooms clean and kitted out well.

The food is wonderfull especially the Sunday lunch. I can 100% recommend this place situated in a country location in Cumbria called Gosforth. A very nice environment friendly staff it even has a pony park for the young equestrian enthusiasts very much worth a visit

Bonito hotel, la habitación era muy buena con menaje para preparar té y café. Cómodas camas con amplio baño. El desayuno era excelente y el personal era amable y eficiente. Bonita zona de bar. Mucho estacionamiento. Área de juegos para niños, atienden a todos. A unos 45 minutos a pie de Seascale a la playa. Gran pub en la calle, a un corto paseo y buena comida The Lamb & Lion. Booked a table via email on the Saturday no problem for Sunday 1st September - had been here before in June so we knew it was going to be good! the Sunday carvery was fantastic three kinds of meat and the biggest range of vegetables including cauliflower cheese, roast and mash miniature sausage & stuffing - well worth it at £9.95 each I was so full couldn’t eat anything else all day the staff are so lovely and friendly too - it does get busy so think about booking you won’t be disappointed

We are locals and have dined here once a couple of years ago - however, this was a treat from friends - an excellent meal, hot, tasty and freshly cooked. The staff friendly, everything really very pleasant.

Made an impromptu visit (4 adults, 5 children) on a sunny bank holiday Monday. Table available straight away and orders taken promptly. Food was delayed slightly but this was acknowledged and a discount proactively offered to compensate. Food was very very nice, homemade very tasty chips and the kids meals just as nice with proper chicken nuggets and generous sized portions all round. My Wife had the fish and chips which was perfectly cooked and a sizeable fish. Reasonably priced as well considering the quality. Would definitely return.

We ordered of the specials menu and we wasn’t disappointed, the soup was one of the best I’ve ever had my partners ribs came out and it looked delicious I thought I’d ordered wrong but when I got my meal pork belly with chilli it was brilliant I’m a big eater and I was full at the end no need for desert , I did finish off my partners as well. The staff was great and friendly plus we took are dog with us and they was very accommodating definitely will be going again thank you for a lovely evening

Booked a table for 7.30 the food arrived at 8.57 my husbands 16 ounce gammon was about 5ounces and burnt to a cinder my salmon steak was burnt and I am still trying to find the Bombay potaoes and crispy onions, the fish and chips were burnt to a cinder, the veggie curry was good the others in the party I did not ask. Overall the food and service were poor the waitress was pleasant I know it was a busy night but they knew in advance it would be busy and did not have the staff in to cover.

Staying in Gosforth for the weekend to walk Scafell Pike. Had a walk and ate here on the Saturday night. When we entered it was very busy in the bar area as there was a party. We walked through to the desk to ask if there was any other seating. Staff were friendly and said we could sit in the restraunt. This part was empty when we arrived but busy by the time we left. Sevice was friendly. We were asked 3 times by 3 different members of staff if everything was ok with our meal. The food was lovely. The restaurant spacious and clean. We asked for the bill and were told to pay at the bar. This was a little down side as it was busy and only one person on the bar so had to wait. Overall i would go back.

Our family and friends enjoyed a fabulous lunch to celebrate a birthday. The whole occasion including food, service and hospitality was first class. In addition accompanying children had a great time outside in the play park. Thank you for a memorable afternoon.

Four of us went here to celebrate our dear friends birthday. A warm welcome from a very friendly staff member and we were shown to our table in the very spacious dining room,and our drinks orders taken. A very varied menu,and I chose the Atlantic prawns. A very enjoyable meal,and unfortunately no room left for a sweet. A very satisfied experience that I heartily recommend.

Arrived late after a long day with a group in the mountains. Felt like they kept it all open for me.

Popped in as just along road from where we are staying, no room in restaurant but we ate in bar/ lounge , we had chilli tortillas between us to start and I would have been happy for it to be my main meal it was a smashing starter very tasty. I only had a burger but my wife had crispy salt and pepper chicken with noodles and prawn crackers and she loved it , definitely give it a try

Visit a Monday lunchtime, two items not available on the menu, but alter tubes were excellent. Katsu curry with well cooked chicken and typical sauce. Actually a marriage of Indian a rice bastmati an two small nan breads. The rice was good though. Despite it not being authentic I would eat again as the chicken and sauce were great. Chicken Caesar salad, another substitute, was very good. I would have paid more for some salty anchovies as the sauce was more creamy than piquant, but my wife liked its it was. The scampi was well scampi 2019 with lots of crust and less prawn but again very tasty with lots of additions with it. The cooking looks spot on. Will visit again as it is like panning for gold to find good food in this area.

3 couples, different tastes but all agreed it was one of the best meals experienced. Large portions, quality tasty ingredients and sensible prices. On top of That, informal excellent service. Well done!

He estado aquí cada pocos meses con mi madre anciana que vive cerca. Tomamos unas copas en el bar la noche anterior (todo bien) y habíamos reservado una mesa para cenar en el comedor. El problema fue que estimulamos nuestro pedido alrededor de las 19.45 horas y no conseguimos nada para comer hasta las 20.55 horas. No puedo comentar sobre los motivos de esto, pero la experiencia no funciona y evitaré el Kellbank a menos que sepa que mejora. Los camareros se disculparon y nos cobraron solo la mitad de la factura como reconocimiento. Verdadera vergüenza para este lugar, ha sido bueno en el pasado pero parece estar luchando. : -

Visitó en un capricho, obviamente popular y ocupado. Sólo quería cenar algo algo caro y simple. ¡Consiguió ambos! Acepto que los lugares están ocupados y comí en el bar. La mesa podría haber estado más limpia y pidió hamburguesas y papas fritas, pero decepcionó que las papas fritas no se hayan cocinado adecuadamente. Pero si caminas y no eres quisquilloso este es tu lugar.

Reservamos una mesa para 5 personas para 19. 30 horas. Llegó a los 19. Así que decidí tomar una copa en el bar, después de esperar 10 minutos, ya que solo había una licitación trabajando en el bar y nos dijeron que fuéramos a nuestra mesa donde tomaríamos nuestra orden de bebidas. Fuimos al restaurante y nos dijeron que nuestra mesa no estaba lista, así que de vuelta al bar, mientras esperábamos a nuestro primer empleado de bebida, nos pedimos que fuéramos a la mesa. Se toma orden de bebidas y finalmente se sirve para usar a las 19. 40 más de 30 minutos para tomar una copa.

Reservamos una cena después de la boda para 22 personas.

Average pub food. Chips were not home made. Lunch time menu was small portions., bar man was not very pleasant. Felt in an awkward atmosphere where some people who were at the bar he spoke to but not us. Only people in for lunch. Won't return.

Food for 3 people one evening. It was all good. It's very welcoming without being effusive. I'll definitely eat there again any time I need food in the area.

We stayed in The Kellbank for a weekend's hiking. The room was clean which was good but it was however very small. All of the furniture and decor was dated and a little tatty. The staff are friendly. The pillows were extremely thin even with 2 piled up! The resturauant is ok, I had the Japanese katsu curry... served with pilau rice and naan bread which was a little strange. Again nice and clean restaurant but menu was sticky and place mats were a little tatty e.t.c. cheap and cheery but wouldn't of liked to stay longer than 2 days as the room was way too small.

Very well done to all concerned with this restaurant. Great staff, high quality food and well priced. BEST food in west Cumbria, no exceptions. Good job, will be back every time in the area!

We stay here quite often because we like it. The rooms are a throw back to the 80’s but we like that too. They’re clean and the beds are comfortable. The food is good too.

Went for the carvery here with the family. Its also got a take out option which is great for anyone missing for Sunday dinner. Great selection, generous meat cuts. All fresh and replaced regularly. Definitely family value.

We just enjoyed a great carvery lunch here on Rememberance Sunday. The place was very busy, with a friendly crowd. Food was excellent, plentiful, & great value for money at £10 per plate. Recommended.

We were spending a few days at a local cottage rental, arriving Sunday lunchtime. The pub was quite full. We had the carvery (2 courses for £12.95). The portions were quite large and the food delicious. They do actually offer a takeaway service in aluminium containers so large I could have roasted a chicken in. At the bar there was quite a large range of gins and choice of tonic mixers, many I have never heard of.

Used the Hotel on our way from Ben Nevis to Scafell Pike. Unfortunately, we were running late & never made our prebooked evening meal. We phoned & canceled ahead of our late arrival, staff were most helpful & accepted our cancelation without any problem. The Hotel bedrooms were spacious, clean & in good order. We were made welcome in the Bar for our nightcaps before an early start, 1st party arrived for breakfast @7.00am Full English awaited, the later starters (myself included ) were greeted to a most excellent Full English full of taste. Would recommend this Hotel to anyone

Love the fact there's treats for dogs and horses. Hubby had the humongous burger and I had chicken breast, neither of us managed to finish the meal was huge and delicious.

Excellent meal for seven people. Steak and Ale pie was the best I've had in a long time and barley had enough room for all of it ! Good range of food on the menu and wine list is ok. Good that they put water on the table with out asking.

Had a family meal with 7 of us. Order a selection of food which was beautifully presented and tasted great. Portion size was perfect especially for a Hungary family. I would highly recommend.

We visited here today for a meal out for my birthday after hearing nothing but amazing reviews of this place. On initial inspection the food choices were amazing and suited our tastes. When we decided on our starter we ordered it and asked for no pesto due to the fact I have severe nut allergy and this is something I am unable to eat. They were unable to provide this without the pesto as they were pre made - this was the case with the other starters as well. The main course we ordered we had no problems with and it was lovely. The last problem was when going to order a desert and again I was unable to as all of the options contained nuts. Really disappointing for a meal that cost over £50 for 2 people when I could barely eat any of the options provided.
