Disappointed firstly because of the attitude of one member of staff!! She was not particularly concerned about how she served our food The lid of the takeaway box the fish came in was pushed down and not closed as the box should be closed therefore when we got home the fish was squashed and stuck to the paper inside the box and therefore was soggy and the batter came off When we asked for the box to be closed correctly we received an aggressive response saying she didn’t have the time to close the boxes correctly Such a shame as the food is generally of great standard All the other staff were very accommodating !

Called up for a table 30 minutes before closing and was welcomed as a group of ten diners. Service was friendly, attentive and our order not rushed, especially considering we arrived close to closing. All food was made to order and all 10 of us were served at the same time. All food was amazing and perfectly cooked. Couldn’t fault it at all. Fish was fresh, crisp batter. Portions generous - only go large if you are very hungry! Overall an excellent experience, could not recommend it more highly, right up there with best chippies I’ve ever visited. Praise to the owner/manager and staff.

Staff seem to be “lost” service terribly slow slow slow was once excellent it’s certainly lost its sparkle and expensive very disappointing

Closes at 7,30. Turned up at 7,14 to be told we would be expected to have eaten our meal by half 7! Hadn't even got my coat off! Food has always been great, live round the corner, won't be back,

On the last 3 visits here my large cod has been over cooked. Certainly not as good as it was 12 months ago when I gave it a 5 star review

In my opinion, this is the best chippy in FY4. Great chips! Great fritters/potato scallops Fish is beautiful, but I suggest to ask for "lightly battered" as it is a bit stodgey at the tail end of the fish

My partner and I wanted a chippy tea while visiting Blackpool. It was stunning! We ate in - chilled atmosphere, friendly service, STONKING food and gear value.

Visited here after a lovely day at the pleasure beach. Was absolutely lovely , chips were beautifully cooked and the fish batter was light and just perfect. I grew up in Blackpool and can safely say these are some of the best chips in town. Highly recommended.

Visited today with my 12 year old son after reading great reviews online. Arrived at the restaurant about 2pm and 6 customers already eating. Advised could sit anywhere so choose comfy window table. Restaurant decorated nicely, loved painting on the wall, and it was very clean. Ordered 2 small cod specials with gravy and buttered barm each. Great service, friendly staff. Food delivered quickly and piping hot. As my son said - this is the perfect size. The barm cakes were huge for £1. Gravy served in gravy boat lovely touch. 2 clean plates and satisfied bellies. Visited toilets before we left - super clean. When we paid the lady asked if we had enjoyed our meal and we agreed for £19 it was value for money and best bit of our visit to Blackpool.

Fantastic chiipy. Amazing staff Went with family on our trip to Blackpool, stumbled across completely by accident and found a jewel. Staff could not make.is feel.more welcomed, regardless of how busy the actual chip shop was. Food was unbelievable. No grease, piping hot and flavoursome. Thoroughly recommended

Immaculately clean, bright, airy restaurant. The friendly lady welcomed us & took our order as soon as we were ready. Lovely cup of tea with your own tea bag so you could make it to your own liking. The haddock, chips, mushy peas came properly served with a wedge of lemon & tartare sauce if required. I had the small portion, hubby had a medium portion which we both enjoyed. Date of visit 12/8/23 late afternoon. Would highly recommend.

Went here yesterday and can honestly say it was the best fish and chips I've had in years with great service,and nice clean resturant at the side. We sat in and was welcomed by the staff, i ordered fish chips and please and gravy (large) great meal and are already planning on going back.

What a lovely neighbourhood chippy only 10 mins walk from The Big Blue Hotel. We ate in the cafe which appears to be recently refurbished and was very clean. The staff were so lovely and helpful. All our meals were absolutely delicious, best fish I’ve had in years, so fresh and perfect batter. Will definitely return if we’re in Blackpool again.

I live nearby and been a regular to this chippy for 10 years and it used to be the best however upon a recent visit I noticed how things have gone down?customer service used to be the best now it’s a don’t care attitude although I know staff come and go but how the portion sizes have gone so small a medium chips now looks like 10 chips in a tiny tray just a rip off I won’t be back try bentleys near the pleasure beach good customer service massive portions and still good prices

Absolutely abysmal portions! A "regular" chips consists of about 10 chips. They don't do large portions either so can't just pay for a bigger serving. The food is served cold. The staff are rude and miserable. Save your money and go down the prom. Or the Armenian kebab place!

We enjoyed the specials in the restaurant. Great service and wonderful value for money compared to the seafront a few minutes walk away. Highly recommended

After a poor experience last time about 8,months ago with poor quality food, it was great to see the cafe had re opened, so we thought we would try it. I must say the food was great, the staff serving in the cafe were very pleasant and welcoming. The food took along time to arrive , even to be freshly cooked it was 3pm in the afternoon , and very quiet it took over 30 minutes to arrive. What is very noticeable is the size of the servings these have greatly reduced, the medium fish and chips is now the size of what was the small fish and chips. I had the pudding chips and gravy and this is now served on a small plate and the pudding is microwaved not boiled. Bread and butter previously was included in the meal deals in the cafe now it’s 60p per slice. The coffee previously was milky coffee now it’s just instant. Cost cutting and hefty price rises are very evident.

Went to this chippy which used to be good. The staff need training in customer service. An old gentlemen came in and ordered chips peas and curry. He explained that he had been in the shop earlier in the week and that they had forgotten to give him his peas last time so he asked for a replacement. The young girl replied rather abruptly that he was not getting his peas free and that he would have to pay for them. The price of peas is £1.00. He was told that he should have rang up at the time but he explained that he did not have the number and even if he had he probably wouldn't have got back to collect the peas before the rest of his food went cold. For the price of a £1.00 you would rather lose the customers in the shop that was listening to what was going on and now you have this wonderful review, which I am sure is going to cost you more than the £1.00 you took off a pensioner. I hope you are ashamed of yourselves and I recommend you train your staff in customer service skills as they are definitely lacking. The customer after the pensioner had her order mixed up as well. I checked king order was complete before I left.

I was working just around the corner and didn't particularly fancy a chippy dinner but I couldn't see much else around. Decided I'd just have a fish with curry sauce. At £6 for a large I thought I hope it is a bloody large. It didn't dissapoint. It was a whopper. Not just a whopper but excellent. Broke into nice chunky segments as it should. I will definitely be back when I'm in the area.

Don’t give that chippy your money. Owners are cool but the staff are lying rude awful people. All the female staff smoke all day & never wash their hands.

I left school and I worked in my family’s chippy ( now sold ) so I’m familiar with this type of eatery , I’ve tried many of the towns chippys , and I can honestly say that after trying the fish n chips n curry sauce this friary is hands down the BEST anyone will ever taste . chips were soft with no hard chips in sight , the fish was enormous ( were going to need a bigger boat ) curry sauce was exactly how I wanted it , great service , great food , great friary ! We have found the best in town by far !

Every time we visit Blackpool to see my Grandma this is where we always request to go for dinner as our treat! The fish itself is fresh, and is freshly battered and fried when you order. For our latest visit this week we sat in. My Grandma is particular with the way she has her tea and the staff could not have been more accommodating. They are always warm and greet you well and I truly do highly recommend this place. If you are in the area, (the area being Blackpool) this is the place to get your chippy!

Recommended by a lady in the Velvet Underground. What a cracker! All female staff when we were there; no stirring males? The service, by a young lady was excellent. My haddock and chips was excellent, as were the mushy peas. I make these at home, and did in my chip shop, and these were excellent. My son is a pie expert [Cheese +onion] and was equally impressed, as he was with the scallops /dabs which he loves. An of course, not everyone's choice with those two, but curry sauce!All in all A1. Would have tried the nearby Chinese following night but it was persisting down and windy, and so too far to walk from our South Shore hotel. I know, we were chicken!Oh, on vale for money; the lot was twelve quid with drinks! In other posher towns it would have been double. I will not give an example but I live in the ribble Valley and one pays that much to cart it home!

Down for a few days over New Year and went here on the recommendations of our taxi driver. Absolute best fish and chips we have ever tasted!! We ate in the restaurant adjoining the takeaway (both of which were really busy) but were served quickly by a pleasant blonde girl. Both had haddock special which came with tea /coffee, bread and butter.Just delicious, hot, crispy batter, lovely fish, yummy chips with tasty mushy peas.All for £15.50!!!!!!Can’t recommend Harrowside enough....well done guys

the last time we had a chippy sit in tea was at a well known marton chippy which was very dissapointing so we gave this chippy a try and im so glad we did excellent service although it was busy and top drawer fish and chips crispy batter and lovely chips ,peas and bread ,was enjoyed by all 3 of us will be returning thats for sure a very well done to you all

All I can say is best chip shop on the Fylde Coast, fabulous food, great prices, friendly and efficient staff, what more could you want! Well worth a visit.

There's nowt better than top quality fish and chips. And Harrowside is top quality.. I can go to swanky, expensive cosmopolitan restaurants and not enjoy the fare half so much.

We visited on Friday night about 6:30pm and were lucky enough to get a table for 4 in the restaurant. The fish both haddock and the cod were beautifully cooked great value As part of the specials. Grown up with this chippy as my local and lovely to see it’s still doing so well after coming back to visit family. Bonus of veggie friendly curry sauce too!

I have had excellent take away fish and chips from here several times.

How this chippy earned the title of "Blackpool's Best" puzzles me. (The competition must be dire). The fish was dark brown in colour with an oily horrible taste. I have fed my cat better stuff than this. The chips were all hard scratty bits. All in all a disgusting meal with most going in the bin!!

We visited this fish and chip shop last year on our annual visit and, one year on, it has not lost any of its quality! Excellent food and service. My husband and I had the medium and it was more than sufficient, while my son had the large...and finished it!

This place is more like my prices.Not being ripped off and very friendly staff.Chips were reasonably priced and so was the fish.

First stop for dinner when returning to Blackpool is Harrowside Fish and Chip shop. Always ask for medium haddock, lightly battered, with chips and mushy peas and it never ever disappoints, just scrumptious. We will be back next month and looking forward to it.

Visiting my friends in Blackpool and had to wrote this review. My fish was cooked perfectly and the service was fantastic, all the young girls serving were chatting away to us and despite the scorching heat, working hard and happily. Not often do you get brilliant service as well as fantastic food in a chippy, well done young ladies I will be back!

After recently moving back into Blackpool I was surprised when driving past to find the chip shop me and my wife frequented many years ago was still there. At six we decided we would wait an hour or so as it was busy hoping for a quieter opportunity, however on return the que was out of the door. Taking this as a good sign we decided to get in line. I'm very glad we did. Even though it was busy the young ladies were pleasant and cheery. We had our order taken swiftly and only had to wait 8 to ten minutes (we ordered fish). The girls chatted to us while working hard to ensure everyone got their order. We got our food home and it was really lovely, the fish was the best in a long while. Excellent value for money. Me and my wife will be returning with our friends. All in all they should be very proud.

Me and the mrs stumbled upon Harrowside chippy after reading about there most recent award in the gazette, ‘chippy of the year’. After finding out that they had won this for 4 years running, we had to try. Me and my partner both ordered the large fish and chip special for £8.00 each and the food was cooked to perfection . The staff were so helpful and friendly. I recommend this chippy to anyone and will certainly be returning. If I did have a complaint it would that we rang to try and book but were told the restaurant was too busy, luckily there was only a ten minute wait for a table...it was definitely worth it.

I bought fish and chips for the family and when we got home and opened it we were really disappointed. The batter was too thick and hardly any fish and the chips were greasy and soggy. We ended up chucking it away and luckily Stargate Fish and Chips had just opened so I had to go there and we had lovely food it was really nice.

Only wins awards because owners buy loads of gazettes and get friends to send them in. They allow new staff to be bullied. All the staff smoke and never wash there hands afterwards. The owners are nice folk but for unknown reasons allow young witches to run the place who don't know what they are doing. They hold food for hours on end in which is very bad practice. They wash certain food containers with bleach. Totally fake they are best chippy in Blackpool, they are one of the worst. Go to Seniors if you want the best or Yorkshire. It's not just the food at Harrowside it's the dark gloomy atmosphere caused mainly by 2/3 girls led by one I'n particular young blonde girl who if the owners had any sense at all would sack her as she ruins the business. It would help the chippy and help her to learn her a life lesson that lying and being devious gets you no where. Still they back her whatever due to sympathy. Get a grip is what I say to the owners.

We are regular customers hugely disappointed not the usual standard we come to enjoy had to bin the chips but the fish was ok curry was disgusting The chips were not cooked through and the jumbo sausage skins were tough not worth the money should of been better for what we paid for

Very popular great value fish and chips. We chose the small portion £5.50 with tea and bread and butter ample for us. Curry sauce is extra, needs a bit more flavour. The room was rather cool for our very elderly mother with the door open. Staff very friendly and we managed to park on the road outside. Worth the visit. Thank you.

For somewhere claiming to have the certificate of excellence from 2015 to current day, this was absolutely revolving! I ordered a jumbo sausage, chicken burger and a portion of chips. Jumbo sausage was fine, average. The burger ‘came with salad and mayo’, one sprinkle of lettuce no mayo to be seen and the burger was absolutely inedible! Was so greasy every time you took a bite the grease would pour out which is completely disgusting and it smelt so strong of fish and tasted just like fish. If you do not have the right means to cook a chicken burger that tastes like chicken, why serve them? The chips were rock hard and rather tasteless even with the tiny bit of salt and vinegar she kind of put on them. Last of all, the staff were rude and certainly couldn’t care less! Stood at the till while 2 of them had a conversation between themselves for 2 minutes before even being asked what I wanted! One girl playing with her hair and touching all over her face then to touch food with no washing hands or even putting gloves on, hygiene was close to none with another girl messing with her nose piercing ! Absolutely would never return I really really struggle to comprehend how this place has a good reputation and and an excellence award ? Worst place I have visited in a very long while I would avoid at all costs !!

This chippy was recommended by two different people and we knew it had won some awards. It was a Thursday evening but it wasn't that busy in the takeaway which is where I was. Ordered fish chips and mushy peas twice, one of the fish lightly battered. It was ready in about 10 mins which was fine.

Consistently top notch fish and chips from this busy chippie. The fish is only cooked fresh to order and is always delicious. Loads of serving staff, very efficient so never a long wait.

Had heard this place was one of the best in blackpool and had won awards so had to try. We went in the restaurant to ear. Cramped and not very welcoming to be honest. Didn't have to wait long for a table but waited 20 minutes for the table to be cleared and another 10 for our order to be taken. There was one person taking the orders and cleaning and serving the food. A young lad behind the counter taking payments wasn't the most pleasant person in the world very disinterested. Food was nice but nothing special. All in all should of gone in their chippy attached and sat in the car as there were at least 4 people serving in there and would of eaten sooner. Will stick with bispham kitchen as was disappointed.

Just had lightly battered medium haddock with chips and a large tub of mushy peas. Beautiful firm white fish cooked perfectly. Good chips & best mushy peas that I can remember, no horrible bicarbonate of soda taste that's all too frequently found in chippy peas. No grease at all. We've tried loads of places all over the country and have yet to top these. Fair price too. Luckily it's fairly local to us but I'd travel a few miles for them too.

Called in at lunch time on a Friday as were were up for a Pompey match. Convenient for our hotel in South Beach the restaurant area is through a separate door alongside the takeaway. Service was prompt although a bit more attention was needed as we asked for a medium cod and haddock but the cod came as a small portion. Not a problem in the end as there was more than enough for lunch. The chips were excellent and the fish was fresh and tasty though the batter could have been crisper. Overall very good.

Called in after the Gazette award for no.1 chippy . We regularly travel to Granada at Fleetwood , and were keen to make a comparison . Our honest opinion ...... Granada beat them on service and quality. Harrowside were very good , and voted no.1 by Gazette readers so what do we know ? . Still our honest opinion though .

I enjoy fish and chips but you will have to go a long way to beat the flavour and size of the portions at Harrowside Chip Shop. Everything is cooked fresh in their restaurant and the menu choice is really good. From Cod to Haddock, or if you prefer a sausage or a pie. But they really excel at their fish and chips so why bother with anything else! The restaurant is clean and the staff very friendly and always with a smile.

Have had many fish and chip meals from this great place. Cannot praise the quality of fish and how it's fried enough. The shop has been closed for the last few days (and missed) while new equipment is fitted but they re-open tomorrow (Thur 28th June). Looking forward to another lovely cod and chips (they do other types of meals too).

Whilst Blackpool has a lot of chip shops, it has only a few excellent ones and Harrowside is one of these. A traditional English style chip shop/restaurarnt it serves quailty piping hot food. The restaurant is very clean with friendly staff and it obviously appeals to every generation as there were diners with children straight through to couples in their 80's. It uses quality ingredients and is great value for money. Just a 5 mins journey from the Pleasure Beech, it is worth the trip as it stands out from most of the local competition. A must visit during your Blackpool stay.

Whenever I am up towards Squires Gate or nearby Harrowside Lane and fancy a chippy this is the place I come to. You ask for a large portion, you're gonna get a giants size. I'm still surprised when I go months at a time without ordering and when I next go the fish is still huge. I'm always expecting it to be a normal size! This fits my sizable hunger perfectly and added onto that it is always delicious to eat.
