Lovely afternoon tea for my birthday with my family. Lothe and all the staff were so friendly and lovely and could not do enough to help. They also catered for all my allergies and the food and drinks were excellent. I hope to return again soon, thank you xx

We have been to teas all over the world and rate this as one of the better ones. To begin with, the staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating. They tended to our every need with a smile. The tea was delicious- we had two or three different kinds, and they were all delightful. They really should sell it to go. The food was scrumptious- not one thing was bad or marginal. We ordered the full bottle of champagne and have to say the Pomeroy is yummy as can be. Thanks, and shout out to all of the staff for making this a top-notch experience. We actually went to two other teas while on this trip and this one was the poshest and the most delightful at a frankly excellent price point for the experience.

Wonderful. Anwen, Sandra & Marielle were attentive, friendly and eager to make our experience truly relaxing and special. The sandwiches, scones & pastries were delicious, but the star of the show for me: the Tea (Midland 1803)! We look forward to returning.

I've been going for afternoon tea in the Tea Room at the Midland for many years now and it's always been fabulous. Not any more. We booked the traditional afternoon tea following a discussion with staff as they were only serving "festive afternoon tea" which came with a glass or champagne or mulled wine - we don't drink. So traditional afternoon tea it was. The quality and amount of food services has decreased massively: - sandwiches were basic and the bread tasted cheap - no savoury tart/quiche served - one plain scone as opposed to previously serving one plain and one fruit scone - only jam available was strawberry or raspberry, not the wide variety usually served - the cakes - oh my word, the cakes. What used to be fabulous patisserie cakes has now turned into a mince pie, stollen and two cakes of unknown content, one was brownie-like but so thick and stodgy it was hard to swallow and one that I thought was cheesecake but was actually more of a mousse. Both looked as though they'd been dropped before putting on the plate. Had a taste of the last two but couldn't eat them. Didn't even bother with the mince pie or stollen. Tried to talk to the manager who just smiled and didn't offer any explanation. I get the need to cut costs but £44 for a mediocre sandwich, scone with strawberry jam and a teaspoon of cream and 4 inedible cakes. Absolute rip off. A basic mince pie - for afternoon tea in the Midland!!!

This was a great experience for my self and my husband who visited the tea room recently. The room was so wonderfully decorated with the festive vibe and very welcoming. The young lady who attended our table was called Lottie who was a really pleasant and friendly person. She regularly checked that we had everything we needed. The whole experience was really good and all the staff were so helpful and friendly. The food was excellent with so much choice and also for those people with allergies a good choice. Thank you

Visited for afternoon tea with family to celebrate a 100th Birthday. The staff were all brilliant & so attentive, especially Lottie. The food was great and the team really made for a special experience, with a decorated plate for the Birthday girl & catering to all dietary needs. There were a few issues with communication prior to the visit, but on the day the service was excellent, made for a truely special afternoon.

We had HighTea at the Tea Room at the Midland the week of 20 October. Unfortunately the service was poor to nearly nonexistent. In 1 1/2 hours we were not offered additional drinks nor had our water refilled. We finally had to go to the front reception to get our bill as no one was around in the Tea Room. There was a good selection of drinks and tea. The small sandwiches were fine, the scones were good, especially with the lemon curd, however the small cakes did not seem fresh and the flavors were a bit dull. Overall this was a disappointing experience, especially with the lack of service. 3 out of 5 at best.

After receiving a gift voucher for afternoon tea, my mum and I attended midweek in October. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was impeccable. The staff couldn’t do enough to make sure we had everything we needed and were enjoying the day from the minute we entered the building. Marielle was extremely attentive, polite and kind and we were so grateful for how welcome she and her colleagues made us feel. I would definitely recommend a visit here, and the gift voucher will definitely be something I purchase for others so they can have the same lovely experience. Thanks so much everyone!

We had a lovely time having afternoon tea at The Tea Room. The selection of teas were great and we had been upgraded as part of our spa day package with a glass of champagne. The food was delicious and the service was great, in particular Lottie and Marrielle who were very attentive and always making sure we had everything we needed. Thank you for the great experience

Straight after arriving in Manchester we passed by the Tea Room at the Midland and decided to treat ourselves to a high tea. We were served by the very friendly Lottie and enjoyed a lovely afternoon and a great start to our stay in Manchester. The sweet and savory offerings and the tea were delicious and the service was great.

Lovely afternoon tea catching up with friends for my birthday. Food and ambience was just perfect, which was made even better by the superb service from Marielle. She was very attentive, friendly without being over powering, just perfect. Thank You!

My friend and I came for afternoon Tea on a Thursday afternoon. Nice venue, great for small and large groups. My friend and I arrived for our weekday afternoon booking, had to wait a few moments before we were seated. We had the traditional afternoon tea – mine was pescatarian with latte. The food was mediocre, sandwiches were okay, a bit dry. The petit fours were not appealing to look at or taste, one had 3 slices of banana on a chocolate topped ‘crusted hard biscuit/sponge’. Out of the 4 cakes only one was okay. The best part of the tea was the scone with the generous helping of clotted cream and jam. The service wasn’t great – took time to get attention. I did add comments on the requirements and felt it was mostly ignored. There was no explanation on the sandwiches, cakes. Felt like a conveyor belt. All style and no substance.

We enjoyed our previous visit immensely. The service was amazing, attentive & a lovely experience. However, they seem to be missing the manager that used to be there, he was amazing. Sadly this visit, tea was not delivered for around 10 minutes, sandwiches seemed icy cold, from freezer maybe?? Fair experience this time, seems little less organised sadly. Customer interactions have lessened we felt.

Booked as a Christmas gift for my grandparents. The tea room is a lovely setting, with high ceilings and plush interiors. Service was good but not quite the level I was expecting for the Midland. We had to ask for our tea and some cutlery as this was forgotten about… not sure how you’re supposed to put cream and jam on a scone without a knife? Staff were friendly nonetheless and helped out straight away, it was just a shame it wasn’t perfect to begin with. The food was lovely, very similar to other high end Manchester hotels such as the Lowry. Only criticism was that the sandwiches looked like they’d just been dumped on a plate with little thought and at afternoon tea it’s the small things that count. Overall I’d recommend for a good afternoon tea in Manchester City centre.

It was a disappointing service, I feel standards are not where they should be. Watching staff pouring all the ends of champagne into one bottle wasn’t exactly the view I wanted while eating. Serving plates chipped without exception (4 on 1 plate alone). Food was ok.

My friend who comes here regularly with her family treated me to afternoon tea here on Friday and it was perfect. The staff are so professional and nothing is too much bother, they are very attentive and make you feel welcome (thank you Jasmine, Selina, Marielle and Stacey). The tea room itself is a very calm and airy space and feels miles away from the busy city centre location. The food including the vegetarian menu is fresh and tasty and portions are generous (I took some home as I couldn’t eat it all). There are so many different teas on the menu, I enjoyed the Midland Jubilee and the 06:30 to Singapore - worth another visit to try some of the others. Such a lovely way to spend an afternoon, definitely recommend. I meant to take some photos but got carried away at how nice it was that I forgot!

Always come here for our family get togethers as they have such a good veggie menu. All staff were lovely and were happy to top up tea, will be back!

Nice venue lovely place to enjoy family catch up service was ok but food was poor quality . Sandwiches were very dry cold and tasteless obviously been frozen and the plates were ice cold too. Cake selection didn’t taste fresh . Tea was weak and not that hot . Only nice thing was the scone but only had a couple of currants in it . Very disappointing poor value for money .

We had been given a gift from our son’s & their families for our Golden Wedding. It was a truly lovely experience. The place was so bright, clean and welcoming. We were made to feel welcome and special from the start. We had a choice which teas we would like. The food was delicious, beautifully made sandwiches and cakes. A lovely glass of bubbly. Excellent service and a lovely little box to take away what we couldn’t eat. It was a wonderful experience which we won’t forget. Thank you.

Afternoon tea at the midland was brilliant. I booked this for me and my mum and it was sensational. The tea selection is excellent, the cakes and sandwiches were gorgeous. We couldn’t finish it so they boxed them up for us. The staff were lovely, especially our server, I didn’t catch her name but a big thanks to the server with the lovely long plaited hair, she made us feel so welcome and was brilliant our entire afternoon there. Will be back 100%

Came here for a Vegetarian Afternoon Tea for my birthday and left quite disappointed. I don’t often leave negative reviews but felt my birthday was ruined by this experience slightly. Our server didn’t offer us water when we sat, despite pouring water for all other guests, with some guests even having their napkin placed on their lap for them by another server. Then the tea took a while to arrive, and the food even longer. One server said that the cakes were still defrosting which is why they were late which we were displeased by as we had booked in advance. The sandwiches were lovely and the scones were okay but the vegetarian desserts were not nice. The service was also very very slow, despite it not being busy at all. Would not pay £30 for this experience again.

Lovely place, lovely food, lovely staff What's not to like! There was a young girl who especially made us feel very welcome, she was friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. Upon initial enquiry, we were told we could have the table for two hours for the afternoon tea. Then it changed to 1hr45m when we put down deposit. Unbelievably on the day, we were told we could only have the table for 1hr30m??? And by 1hr15m, the waitress had already came up and offered us the bill. All other guests got to keep their table for longer. I knew that cos the table next to us arrived earlier but never had to leave by the time we left. Is it because our party are all ethnical minority??? It's a joke. It ruined my baby shower completely. Will not return ever again. You should be ashamed of your business.

Visited for afternoon tea on a Saturday. The food was mostly fine; the bread a little stale, negligible filling on the macaroon and misshapen scones which don’t befit a £40 a head spend. I could have looked past this somewhat harsh criticism, but the service really let the visit down. The unlimited tea is neither here nor there, given we didn’t receive a single table check for the entire time we were there, nor did a member of staff come anywhere near us. We waited patiently trying to get someone’s attention as we wanted to enjoy the scones with fresh tea, but by the time we’d managed to order more, we’d waited a further 15 minutes for the tea to arrive by which time the moment had gone. When the food arrived (35 minutes in for a pre-booked afternoon tea, by the way) our waitress deposited our goods with “Are you fine with everything or do you need anything explaining?” It really did seem like too much trouble. Naturally, we requested the 12.5% service charge to be removed (though I did pay some service, I’m not an animal after all). The waiter, who we hadn’t seen since sitting down, seemed less than impressed. Of course, his feelings matched our own entirely.

My mother and I had a wonderful time with the Royal afternoon tea menu, to celebrate her 70th birthday, everything was absolutely delicious! The service was so lovely and attentive and Claudia was a delight to have as our server, so knowledgeable and friendly and a real asset to your team 😊 we look forward to returning again in the future, thank you!

Came as a family of 3 for festive afternoon tea but sadly very disappointed. The food was nice not anything overly special but for afternoon tea it was nice enough. The service however completely let the whole experience down. We were there over 2 hours and were provided one glass of water, the glass of champagne included and one hot drink. Throughout the whole time we were there nobody once checked if we needed anything despite us having no drinks on the table but we could never catch anyone’s eye contact to ask. The festive tea also included mulled wine which we had to ask for twice at the end otherwise would have been just been forgotten. The food was just brought to the table but nobody explained what the cakes were so who knows what was served. To then be charged 12.5% service charge is just all abit of a joke since we had one drink order in the entire time. Would not return and have had much better afternoon teas elsewhere.

We had a lovely time on Christmas Eve. Charlotte and the team were fantastic! All of the food was wonderful, service was great. We are looking forward to the next few days ahead.

Absolutely amazing from start to finish . The food was beautiful but what stands out is the amazing staff Chris the supervisor made us some beautiful mulled apple drinks that were delicious.
