This place has gone downhill over the last couple of years. Frankly, the food is diabolical. We have just had a Sunday lunch, and I can't say there was one decent item on the plate. Everything was clearly frozen and heated up. I can only think the Yorkshire puddings were heated in the microwave because they had become rock hard. The vegetables were withered and overcooked. We had the veggie option that is on the menu as a tart but were told when we ordered that it would be mushroom Wellington. It was some sort of gravy and onion pie when it arrived. And, again, it was over microwaved so the pastry was hard. My kids had fish and chips. The fish was overcooked and breaded, chips were undercooked oven chips. We were told we couldn't have the option of garden peas as they didn't have any, so it would be mushy peas, and there would be sprouts on the roast dinners. Actually, we had no sprouts but bullet hard peas. On top of this, it took 45 min to receive our food. I won't be coming back any time soon.

We went for Sunday lunch today. It was a bit quiet hence 3 star atmosphere but it was early. Natalie was lovely, great service with a smile and the food was delicious. We all had something different (sirloin steak, fish and chips and gammon) and each dish was lovely so highly recommend. We'll definitely be back.

I was with a work colleague and wanted to have a quick lunch before dropping her off. Unfortunately, the pub had been booked with a massive table and I was told it would be a minimum 30-45 minute wait whilst this table was taken care of. This was fine and we knew we'd have to wait, no problems there. However, when we finally received the food, a few things sprung to mind. I ordered a mixed grill, which wasn't that hot, the sausages were missing and the remainder meat was just bland. I understand it's a pub and not a restaurant and having to order frozen meat in order to save money is required, however, it was, just bland, tasteless. The risotto my colleague ordered was good. Usually, when something is good I usually forget about it and just keep as Pub x y z is good and with this one I had that in mind given the previous experience. But unfortunately this visit it was just meh. Memorable in the wrong ways. Bar staff were very helpful although overwhelmed with too many customers at times vs 2 people behind the bar.

Providing colouring pencils for kids that almost all need sharpening is (literally) pointless. It’s hard enough for dads already fielding complaints of “Why is it taking so long to arrive?” (45 mins)

Just popped in for a few drinks on a cold day in November. Looked lovely with all the Christmas decorations up. Served by Nat who was friendly and helpful. Deducted star because the toilets were colder than the North Pole. Sort it out Greene King!!

Lunchtime visit to try their beer and burger offer which was great! One of the best I have had. Slightly spoiled by my knocking over a pint of Peroni over my partner's meal. Service decent if a bit slow, although they coped well with my "accident".

Great Setting, Disappointing Dining Experience The restaurant’s charming building and attractive location initially drew us in, and it looks like they have some promising events planned that might make it a good spot for a social drink or sports viewing. However, when it comes to dining, the experience left much to be desired. We opted for the “5 plates for £22.50” deal, but the value and quality were disappointing. Each dish felt poorly executed and seemed aimed more at a crowd with low expectations for taste, possibly those there for the atmosphere rather than the food. The chicken strips, for example, were incredibly thin—closer in size to shredded chicken you’d find in a stir-fry than a proper portion—and noticeably dry, as if they had gone from freezer to oven without much thought. The corn ribs were especially disheartening: one small cob cut down into quarters, with a price tag of around £5.49. Almost every dish was topped with a “spiced mixed herb” garnish, consisting mainly of chilli, spring onion, and a heavy dose of coriander. For those with a strong aversion to coriander, or even an allergy, this lack of transparency on the menu could be a serious issue. I spent several minutes removing coriander from each dish. The overuse of sauces to bring up the flavour was also disappointing; sauces should complement a well-prepared dish, not be relied upon to compensate for dry, uninspired food. The pulled pork tacos (two small tacos) were another letdown. For the price, it’s not that one expects gourmet, but a reasonable standard of freshness and quality is fair. Unfortunately, everything here tasted like it was frozen and then hurriedly prepared. Service was similarly lacklustre, the wait time on our first visit extended to 75 minutes, which is unacceptable given the quality of the food served. While the building and location make it a decent option for a drink, especially given the numerous screens for sports viewing (although the majority of the screens are obsolete due to pillars, walls, and generally other people in the way due to the placement of the tables). I’d recommend looking elsewhere for a meal. For the price, there are many other places in the area that offer better food and better value. Ye Old Cock In doesn’t seem to know what it wants to be, a sit down restaurant or a sports bar. It seems to be trying to tender to both target markets but by doing so, isn’t pleasing anyone.

We were at the pub yesterday for my best friend's joint 21st birthday celebration, participating in the Didsbury Dozen. Unfortunately, we faced an unjust accusation of drug use simply because we entered the same restroom cubicle. It would have been more reasonable for the staff to address their concerns in the moment, especially given that they saw them together. Instead, they chose to take our pictures and circulate them among other Didsbury pubs, effectively barring us from continuing our evening. We approached the staff amicably, understanding that they have a responsibility to ensure a safe environment. However, being accused without evidence and having our night ruined felt excessive. It left us feeling targeted, especially as we observed numerous other people—many of whom were also in pairs or groups—using the facilities without issue. It seemed particularly disproportionate that our actions were scrutinized, while others were not, especially as they were simply two Asian girls in a crowded pub.

Staff treated members of our group with prejudice and targeted two young women. Management failed to listen to us when we politely asked why they were being singled out. Disgusting.

We had a very poor experience at this pub. As our second stop on the Didsbury Dozen to celebrate a 21st birthday, our group was in high spirits and excited to drink at this pub. However, after around 30 minutes, we were told we had to leave the pub as some members of our party had been ‘caught doing drugs’. We were sceptical about this, as none of us would ever do any drugs, especially in a public place at 4pm in the afternoon, but nonetheless we left amicably, with no fuss. However, when we reached our next stop, the managers of the pub told us that staff at Ye Olde Cock had circulated a picture of our group, telling other pubs to refuse us entry and saying that we had been doing drugs. We absolutely denied this, knowing it wasn’t true, and upon questioning, the staff insisted that it was the two ethnic girls in our group who had been ‘doing drugs’, purely based on the fact that they had entered a toilet cubicle together. This is absolutely disgraceful - throwing around harmful accusations with no evidence at all. In actual fact, our friend had been administering her medication in the toilet, something that she did not need to disclose to the staff, but was forced to anyway in order to defend herself. When they went back to Ye Olde Cock to defend themselves and ask for the accusations to be rescinded, the staff member was rude and not listening to them. They made no effort to apologise, or remove the disgraceful accusations that they had make. We were forced to change our plans and abandon the Didsbury dozen since all of the pubs were told not to serve us, based on unsubstantiated claims from Ye Olde Cock! It’s absolutely disgusting behaviour, to accuse two girls of doing drugs just because they entered a toilet cubicle together, something that girls do all the time in busy toilets to save time, also showing no awareness of medication and health conditions. Would not recommend this pub at all, judgemental and racist staff who ruined 30+ people’s day.

I am a regular at this great pub and witnessed the whole incident, to say that they have fabricated what went on is an understatement. The whole incident was handled in a professional manner and the correct decision was made. It’s great to see all of the pubs in Didsbury sticking together when it comes to situations like this, yes the Didsbury Dozens are great for the area but they can also ruin the enjoyment for regular local customers. Management and staff keep up the good work 5⭐️

Only popped in for a pint after a long walk, but loved the mix of traditional and modern vibes. Taff were friendly and helpful when ordering from a range of beers, so we stayed for a few more, and when we saw how good the food looked, had to stay for a meal too. Will be visiting again often.

Came here for some lunch with my partner today and it was a sublime experience! I’m normally a fan of Greene king pubs but these guys are a level above. The hot honey halloumi wrap with skin on fries were 10/10. The Guinness was poured spot on top. HUGE shoutout to our server Natalie, she went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and well seen to. Sorted us out with our favourite gin, was consistently polite and attentive and made us feel very welcomed. Deserves a raise for sure! Thank you again:)

The place itself is good & the bar staff are good, you can reserve a table,there are several beach huts at the back of the pub which are heated by pressing a button,& a large TV screen outside, thay have a wide selection of largers & beers, at a price there's a 10% discount if you use the greenking app but only for football matches an hour before & after unless you are a camera member,a good choice of food, but,may have to wait a busy times at weekends.And baring in mind at weekends it's part of the didsbury dozen for the students so can get really busy,& dog 🐕 friendly with a visit.last orders on Friday's & Saturday is 10.50,& there is a singer on the last Saturday in the month, this Saturday only the 17th August there's a drag artist on all night

This place is a mixed bag. It depends what you're going there for. If it's food, Wetherspoons is better and cheaper. I don't say that with any bitterness, but it's very, very basic. If you're looking for a pub just to drink, then it's a nice place especially if you're in a friend's group or family. It has a big outside area, lots of space inside, and the staff are good. The atmosphere is usually non existent in the evenings unless it's a Saturday, as most of the place is empty.

Good value on the 2 for £15.49 for main meals. Portions were descent size and piping hot. Though the sauce was nothing special. But very happy at the price point. Bar is well staffed on several visits. Food took approx an hour to arrive on quiet weekday lunch. Another occasion staff clearly needed till training as got little exasperated with the till and snappy which was off putting, though normally staff are friendly. Restrooms need TLC including plumbing matters meant some facilities closed. Nice ambience overall and outdoors space at the rear

Attended here today for lunch with a group of 5 people. There was no one else sat down for food. We walked in sat down and proceeded to order our food. 50 minutes later it arrived, and the only thing I can say is we were disappointed. Cold chips, flavourless steak ciabatta with a slice of plastic dairylea cheese on top. The salt and pepper chicken was cremated, as was the garlic bread. Utter disappointment on what was supposed to be a treat for lunch. If they were busy I would have understood, but we were the only ones there. The whole quick lunch went out the window with a 50 minute wait. Thank you for your response I can confirm yes some food was refunded at the time and the lady was super apologetic. However if you read your reviews it seems to be a common theme for lunch time goers. Maybe this is something that can be looked in to to prevent it happening again?

Lovely place and good food and drinks. I asked what drink was available and was recommended a lovely drink which was £6 for a single which was a bit pricey in my books! Went back to the bar to order food, having found the student discount online. And I got grumpily told the discount didn't apply to the meal deal which I wasn't after anyway, just the marinara sandwich itself. Then I got told - "on a Saturday we lose £1000 through student discounts". And she put it through anyway! She could have just said " we don't do that here" and I would have accepted that and felt more comfortable than being made to feel guilty, it certainly takes the enjoyment out of the meal. It was a cheap meal, I think around £5, although it was just a sandwich (like a 6 inch subway with nicer bread) and some leaves on the side, and I didn't actually feel bad because I got a pricier drink. There were plenty of spaces still around the pub at the time of eating so I certainly wasn't taking the place of someone who would spend more. I wouldn't usually complain about service because I know it can't be the most fun job, but I believe this person was a manager so I would expect higher levels of professionalism and it confuses me because there was simply no benefit to making customers feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. Still gets four stars because she was nice until I muttered the forbidden words "student discount".

Visited this pub for my daughter’s birthday celebrations. Great drinks , great atmosphere, lovely outside area . The landlady was very welcoming and the staff very friendly totally recommend a visit .

Since moving up here we've visited almost weekly Food is always bang on (tiny bit slow to xome at times but its prettymuchalways busy) and good portions and hot App ordering super easy but just as simple to order at the bar Drinks are reasonably priced We love the landlady and the manager always makes a fuss of our dog Carlos, she's even able to stroke him after much bribery with sausages and 2 months of barking 🤣 Clean pub clean loos nice benches outside 5 huge stars we love you

We come here regularly. We like the location and atmosphere. You can get a wide variety of drinks including tea and coffee and we often eat here. The food is good value and there is plenty of choice. Definitely a good place to relax and meet friends.

Only been here for Sunday lunch or the odd pint, but everything is always good value and super tasty. The vibe is always chilled and upbeat, and the selection of drinks is really good. This is our local and we love popping in for a casual pint or roast!

First visit to watch the Cup Final a couple of weeks ago. Great atmosphere, bar staff were incredibly friendly, polite and so helpful and positive despite the pub being full. Loved the outdoor seating area at the back. Clean, efficient, food was good. Can't fault it really. Will be back.

Fantastic pub in the East end of Didsbury village. Lovely atmosphere, the pub was clean and tidy. Nice classic pub grub, and the addition of the outside TV is amazing. Just in time for the Euros! Will definitely be returning!

I cannot speak more highly about the bar manager, who made us feel incredibly welcome on a very busy night. They were showing a local football team in an important match, so every screen was showing that but we wanted to watch another match. The amazing bar manager put the match on in another part of the bar for us! Just amazing service and I cannot thank her enough. 😁👍 The food wasn't great at all, sadly...but if you want friendly service and a good vibe, then I'd go here.
