We ordered just a Sausage Sandwich, a Bacon Sandwich and two coffees - Americano and Flat White, a smiley service from our server but sterile. I was told the bread would be toasted but I stated unbuttered plain bread was my option. Eventually after a long wait the sandwiches arrived the bread absolutely dreadful, hard with an odd taste and to correct the hard bread complaint it was sent to the kitchen and warmed in the microwave! Our coffees finished before food arrived and the bread left I just ate the two plain sausages and a 25% discount was offered . The patisseries on offer looked amazing in the display fridge but it certainly isn’t enough to wow us back.

Love it here. Amazing breakfast/brunch options. Coffee was good. Located on the ground floor at selfridges so can have a shop after making it even better. Friendly staff. Will return.

Went for the second time today just to give it a second chance but was a total let down poached eggs were hard boiled bacon was burnt and service was just as bad as last time I will never return

Popped in here so glad we did just what we were looking for — smoothies and brunch all day - big varied menu - I had an immune boosting smoothie and avocado on toast -- we also ordered pineapple juice and toast - love that the menu isn’t time restricted so people were having brekkie at 1 and 2pm big thumbs up from me - good opening hours too - makes such a lovely change from all the heavy lunch menus ( Harvey Nichols take note not everyone wants a steak or sea bass after 11.30 am!).

An amazing place for food and a coffee, served by very friendly and welcoming staff. We eat here on a regular basis and can’t fault anything we have had to eat or drink . The staff Dominic, Elena, Jenny, Andreea, Esin, Nada & Laura are always accommodating and deserve a massive pat on the back for their work. I would recommend San Carlo Gran Cafe without hesitation.

We were waiting for approximately 30 min to be seated considering that they saw us that we are with a child. There were free tables just the staff weren’t keen to sit more people. Once we managed to order they brought the food before our coffees as they forgot we ordered them. Absolute joke of a service. Place is nice, but customer service needs to be looked at!

We love this coffee shop with my wife. Last time we went for lunch. Esin took our order and she was very kind and helpful to us. We ordered eggs benedict and poached eggs & avocado. Because we do not eat ham, we looked for other alternatives. Esin suggested us that spinach or mushroom could be used in the recipe and chefs accepted to use mushroom in it. It was a great taste. We also asked for wet wipes. Although there is no wet wipes, Esin found it from somewhere. She took great care of us. It was a lovely experience with the help of Esin and her manager who is short haired lady.

We were in this cafe for my friend’s birthday. Had a wonderful time there. We wanted to make a great surprise to my friend for her birthday and I asked some help from Esin. She accepted kindly. I gave the present to Esin to bring the gift while bringing the birthday cake. She organise everything and brought a lovely cake with great note and my present. It was lovely day and I want to say big thanks to Esin. Some people help to make your day more beautiful, like Esin.

I love this place. The food is amazing and all the staff always welcoming and friendly. My boyfriend and I love coming here often and we love all the Italian cakes and I can say that all tarts are delicious. We can’t wait to be back!

The worse service ever. Walk in and the staff ignore you. Rushing around but no welcome. Told to wait to be seated. Ignored for 10 mins, should have left then. Finally seated. Seems like only the manager can take orders! Really? Cup of tea and eggs Benedict! Trouble is the manager doesn’t actually do any work aside from rushing around and telling the customers how busy they are. Wasn’t told there was a ‘wait’ and finally placed my order after 20 mins. Waited another 20 mins, no drink, no food! Seems like all the customers were getting very fed up. Couple next to meet asked for bill three times. I find it incomprehensible that four or five members of staff rush around and there is no service. Waited yet another 20 mins and got up and walked out. Staff couldn’t have cared less. Shameful.

We are long standing regulars of the San Carlo brand both in london and Manchester so thought whilst shopping we would stop in for a quick bite at the cafe within Selfridges. It was a disappointing mistake and one we shall not make again! Upon arrival we were greeted with rude hostility by the waitress who would not let us sit with two people on the bench seating. She then moved another couple and put tables together- all this whilst grumbling . We then asked where the toilets were and she was even ruder. She said over there in a tone that was accusatory of being stupid- it was however our first visit and there were no signs. Whilst eating we also noticed that she was swearing whilst the phone was ringing saying f+ck off! Our food arrived and it wasn’t up to the San Carlos standard and did not represent anything the brand stands for. The chicken ciabatta only had half the chicken in it so half the sandwich was literally just bread - see photos- we also had someone else’s rogue chip mixed in with the sandwich as we didn’t order chips 🤢. The Bellini and sparkling water was nice!

Definite taste of unusual garlic to the left side of the sandwich I ordered despite there being no garlic on the sandwich or mayonnaise. The plate came in a bit of a state with crumbs everywhere and already dried bits of food. The chicken breast also had a bone in which I informed the staff over. The customers sat next to me had the same dish, there’s in contrast was perfect.

We had a great experience at the cafe. The food was very good.We had a ham sandwich,calameri,pistachio donut and english tea. The waitress Geni was very efficient,very pleasant and helpful.Her supervisor Salvador was very polite and helpful too. We found the prices fair. I would recommend this place for lunch or a snack. The worst salad I’ve ever had. £10.50 for a chicken Caesar . Consisted of 4 tiny cubes of hard chicken (if I would have thrown at someone it would have knocked them out!) and crappy lettuce. No onions, tomatoes , olives NOTHING served in a small bowl. I’m Italian myself and honestly don’t know how you get away with serving this at those prices. I think you need to come over to me and I’ll show you how a proper substantial salad is made!!

I had some delicious cakes in this San Carlo. I met a lovely lady who works there and her name is Esin. She is very friendly and kind. I would definitely go back again to try the brunch and afternoon tea! 😊 The manager is also very nice to us 😊

They were out of their gorgeous Strawberry tarts when I arrived but offered to get more if I could wait 10 mins, they did it in 8 mins! Prosecco, coffee and a gorgeous tart, just as a nice break from shopping in a haven of tranquillity. The service here is consistently good, the head waiter is brilliant and the food has always been of the same excellent standard.

My daughter and I always eat in this cafe when we shop in Manchester. It’s usually good food and the service is good. This time the food was good and service was good, however we had an issue. Staff were conducting interviews and meetings either side of us. So what should have been a nice relaxing breakfast was interrupted by the fact that one side a manager was having numerous people for interviews, we heard every interview in detail due to the fact that the tables are very close together. The other side 2 people were having a meeting over Christmas displays and targets on laptops discussing work. Surely they have other places in the store where this can be done without disturbing paying customers. It’s disappointing that this was happening. I would have expected it had it been a busy afternoon but it was a Friday morning at 10.30. Maybe review this

I just wanted to thank all the staff at San Carlo Gran Cafe Manchester for making our Afternoon Tea experience special. From booking to leaving yesterday, everyone was professional, attentive to our needs and really pleasant. As you would expect with San Carlo and Selfridges the food was of a very high standard, swapping savouries/cakes/drinks to suit our dietary requirements. Compared to other Afternoon Teas this was quality at an extremely good price. I have already recommended to friends and will definitely be returning in the near future.

Always enjoy the atmosphere and service in this cafe. The all day breakfast sandwich is a delight as well as the poached eggs on avocado sour dough toast. To finish we always have a pastry. The Mille-feuille is a delight to share. The head waiter is so professional and always has a smile and makes you welcome. Well done San Carlo we will be returning. AMAZING DESERTS.

We thought being in 'selfridges' that we'd likely have a decent coffee but were mistaken. The coffee was tasteless, like dish water. I politely complained, and asked if I could try another and was equally disappointed. I urge the staff to try what they sell.

Fui al Gran Café de San Carlo el viernes 13 de octubre porque mi hija había disfrutado de sus visitas a los otros restaurantes. La camarera derramó café en el plato y también té de la tetera. Señalé que mi taza estaba sucia y ella la reemplazó. El camarero que nos preguntó si nos gustaría traer agua a los vasos desde otra mesa y luego se dio cuenta de que habían sido utilizados, pero no trajo reemplazos hasta que se lo recordó. Servicio realmente descuidado, pero los sándwiches y las batatas fritas eran sabrosos, aunque caros para lo que obtienes.

Durante un reciente viaje de compras decidimos tomar un descanso y descansar nuestros pies. Nos gusta San Carlos, pero esta fue nuestra primera visita al Gran Café. Nos llevaron a la mesa y pedimos cafés y decidimos darnos un capricho y pedimos un Mille feuille. El pastel era hermoso y esta era una de las muchas opciones. Todo el personal fue excelente y profesional. En general, fue el descanso perfecto para permitir que las compras continúen.

We eat here regularly and always find the staff helpful, friendly and welcoming. The food is fresh and very reasonably priced for the size of portion. The salmon and avocado open sandwich was quite large although it was all eaten. The addition of the gratuity to the bill could be annoying for some but we always leave it on as the service is good and it saves having to scrabble round for change or work out the % required!

I have only ever been here for a breakfast and drink. Faultless! The full breakfast is great value for money. They let you swap items and the staff are so lovely and friendly. There is never a long wait for a seat either! Love love love this place!!!

I met up with 2 colleagues in Gran Cafe Selfridges Manchester for breakfast 21 Dec. Staff were busy but attentive served us quickly with teas coffee etc. Delightful decor pale marble tables with pale leather seating. Very comfortable experience reasonable price good food. I would certainly go again. Recommend for breakfast or lunch.

We visited for a coffee break and my partner got talking to the waiters about Valentino Rossi. Gian Marco was very attentative and actually put a 46 on top of his coffee! It made his day! Coffee was gorgeous and the Rose Prosecco was lovely. Great atmosphere. Any Rossi fans, come visit and see Gian Marco! Thank You!

Stopped here for breakfast, food was very nice and we didn’t have to wait long. All staff were very happy and helpful. Will come again.

I found the food to be unremarkable, and not worth the menu price. I had an omelet which was very average, a bit on the dry side, but OK. Salad served with it was well overdressed, making it greasy and one portion of salad had unsavory bits in it. Happily the waiter reduced the price to reflect the poor salad, but that is not really the point. Schnitzel sandwich was unremarkable. Taking this as an example of what they produce, there are better places for lunch in Manchester.

Recently visited this place with our little one for the first time. The place is always immaculate, food is always excellent and the staff are always accommodating regardless of how many of us turn up.

Su luminosa y agradable, pero el servicio es inconsistente. La comida es a veces bueno a veces no es así. Las tartas son el mismo, tenía una tarta de fresa que estaba pasada y lo peor, nunca con leche Canela tan dulce y enfermizo, pero la ensalada era muy buena. Falta coherencia (y ¿por qué el personal, que son en gran parte agradable y tener sinceridad falsa un tee, dejar que se destacó como palomas taburete en la entrada? )

Came here with my sister, the atmosphere was really nice and it was clean (it’s also quite small). The food is light and lovely - very brunch like. However, as you can tell from the mixture of reviews the customer service is a hit and miss. There was a waitress who saw us waiting for a seat and she didn’t approach us for a long time. The staff aren’t very attentive.

I visited at the end of what we may consider lunch hour but all the seats were taken. Clearly very popular. Good quality meals but the service is a little slow. Be aware that there is a service charge of 10% already added to your bill and a couple of spoons of virgin oil were added for £1 as an extra.

Decidimos tomar el almuerzo en la ciudad antes de que empezamos a tiendas y nos instalamos al ir a san Cafe Carlo después de leer el menú en línea. El lugar era precioso y moderno, aunque esté en un almacén que no sientes que están sentados en un piso de la tienda. Los dos tuvimos un desayuno inglés con huevos escalfados y la comida era estupenda, todo estaba delicioso y no está nada mal por solo 8 libras por un inglés y gran tamaño de la porción.

La mesa estaba sucia, con migas y vino tinto. Tuvimos que pedir que la limpiaran. Creo que era el director, que había limpiado, y era como si fuera un esfuerzo para hacerlo, y aún no estaba particularmente limpia. Teníamos frambuesa higo y fue uno de los mejores que he probado. La crema fue la luz, y la tarta de frambuesas eran. El resto del personal era muy amable y agradable, y el precio era bueno, sólo necesitaba una buena limpieza.

Creo que este es mi primer comentario aunque he tenido almuerzo aquí varias veces. Domingo 23 Abril 18 estaba muy lleno y había una larga espera para los pedidos que se han de adoptar. Vi un gran número de personas que atrae a la atención al lugar de su orden. Entonces yo y la gente a mi lado se acercó a diferentes miembros del personal para tomar nuestro pedido de nuevo. Al final sólo tenía tiempo para el café. Parece que el problema no está dada en un área específica y su suerte si se sirven rápidamente. Esto ha ocurrido antes y creo que hay que solucionar eso. La mayoría, si no todo el personal no son inglés y eran todos encantador y educado el ambiente del lugar es muy agradable, de ahí su popularidad, y un buen lugar para conocer algo para comer o beber en la planta sótano, entre los perfumes.

Could only have a coffee as no gluten free cakes or pastry available , it's not rocket science meringue, creme brulee, gf brownie, polenta cake are all enjoyed by everyone not just coeliacs. The coffee was excellent hence 3 stars

Así que al instante nos una mesa para 4 en el almuerzo. Menús nos dieron y nos fuimos a nuestras opciones. Tuvimos que llamar al camarero a tomar nuestro pedido después de esperar bastante tiempo. Pedimos unas bebidas y comida al mismo tiempo. Una botella de agua y luego esperamos una edad para el batido hasta llegar entonces esperamos de nuevo por una copa de vino y una travesura!

Enjoyed this cute cafe/restaurant. Love the pastel interior decor. Its on the lower floor at selfridges in mcr. Many choices on the menu, all good portion sizes. I loved my fish cakes for a light dinner, exactly what i wanted. My friend enjoyed for canneloni. We shared the fererro dessert with pistachio icecream. The icecream was a little too sweet but went well with the ferrero which had a choc mousse inside. Staff were friendly.

I come here often as I do business in the area. The staff have gotten to know me and my order (I'm very predictable!). They always stop for a quick chat to ask about my day/week. Nothing is ever a problem. Excellent coffee and salads. I look forward to my next visit. Keep up the good work.

Easily the best place in Manchester for fantastic coffee and superb Italian cakes etc.If you hate the chains like Costa and possess a taste for the best, this is the place you should visiting. Staff are always charming and nothing is a bother.Highly recommended.

Tucked away on the lower ground floor you will find a wide selection of drinks and snacks. The staff are very attentive and efficient. The energy drinks are out of this world and filling.

Not been here for over a year yet both the manager and some of the girls remembered us like long lost friends.We had been going to the restaurant on the second floor and were only going to have a glass of wine. However they gave us a small complimentary plate of olives and bread sticks to go with the wine and. As it was mid afternoon we weren't quite ready for a full meal but decided to try a burger to share. I'm not a big fan of burgers but this was excellent as was the home made tomato sauce. Probably wasn't home made but it wasn't the usual ketchup.We ended up with excellent coffee and I had a glass of Grappa to finish off a most pleasurable meal with excellent service thanks to Dominik and Max.Sorry I couldn't remember the name of the young waitress.Its not the cheapest coffee bar and although this place is in the basement the food and service are top floor.
