Mediocre food, bland, chicken came with veg which was under cooked and no potatoes. Friendly staff but very alow service despite it not being busy. The restaurant lacks atmpshere, the chairs are very uncomfortable. Doubtful if we would vist again.

Booked a table for 9 for my husband's birthday. The service was poor. We waited almost half an hour for our orders to be taken. The vegetables were undercooked and hard and were very minimal. We will not be booking here again!

We had a great meal here, the food was lovely. I particularly recommend the spiced gammon on the Christmas menu. The waitress, Brenda, was very pleasant. However, the state of the room meant a great meal wasn't as good as it could have been. The chairs are very low and a bit worn. The decor doesn't match with the rest of the hotel. There's a very nice room with a fireplace to have a drink but the main eating area feels more Wetherspoons than Ribble Valley pub.

We were in the area and decided to call in for an early evening meal. Opted for the 2 courses for £25 for 2 menu. All four dishes were served up nicely and were delicious and plentiful. We decided against a dessert but its only an extra £4 if you want one. Staff were extremely friendly too. We will probably be back to dine again soon.

Not one for writing reviews but feel the need to after poor service for what should have been an enjoyable occasion. Food was adequate but it was the service received by staff that quite simply didn’t want to be there. We had afternoon tea for 5 people on a table that was obviously too small to accommodate the platters. Consequently one of the platters, which was balanced on the edge of the table, fell off. We started to clear the mess and 1 member of staff came over but did nothing and then walked off. Not one member of staff attempted to remove the discarded platter or even ask if we needed anything replenishing. If there had been a shortage of staff or it had been busy then I could understand but at one point there was 5 staff just loitering doing nothing but chatting behind the bar. Even the clearing of the table was slow and poor service. And then to be charged for the discarded platter when we barely touched it was the icing on the cake for a shocking afternoon out. A lesson to be learned, don’t leave bookings til last minute as you end up with low end quality

Waiting staff were all lovely and friendly - made a big fuss of the dog. Food was absolutely wonderful. We ate our evening meal in the restaurant twice on the run - so that's a good recommendation! Blade of beef was delightful - meat fell apart it was so tender. Apple crumble to follow was wonderful too. A big thumbs up from my friend and I.

My partner and I recently called in for tea at about 7.00 pm. We were told only one chef was working so food would be slow coming out. We both ordered our meals and waited some time, my partners cheese pie looked like it had been in the kitchen for days, my gammon and egg was absolutely terrible with lukewarm chips and stone cold garden peas. Vinegar was disgusting in the bottle and beer was foul smelling. All in all we would never go again. Buyer beware!

We have given this place quite a few chances over the years as it’s such a nice setting but every time it’s been so disappointing. When we heard that the hotel had been taken over by another company and we saw a really good dining deal (2 courses for 2 people £20 although on the website now says £22) we decided to give it a try. From walking into the restaurant I knew it was not going to be what I wanted. The room is still very dated but not in a nice traditional way. Just tired and old fashioned and dark and gloomy. The views are lovely so such a shame they can’t spend a bit of money making it a little nicer. But it was busy and I only managed to get a booking by booking a few days in advance so I thought stop being picky it should be the food that is that main attraction. Well I’m sorry but probably the worst meal I’ve had in ages. All three of us thought the same. Two of us had the soup ( think bland hospital) and the other had fishcake. This was ok and nice little salad serving. Then onto the mains two had the chicken. Again bland and tasteless and hardly any veg on plate and swimming in an insipid clear thin gravy (although you couldn’t really call it gravy). I had the blade of beef. This was utterly tasteless and in the same insipid pale sauce with minimal mash and veg. Just awful. Infact we brought the chicken home for the dog! Sorry but apart from maybe a drink in the sun on their lovely terrace we won’t be back. Proof that you get what you pay for unfortunately.

We visited this evening for the February special offer two two course meals for £20. The service was prompt however the chicken main course was meant to have bacon with it ( everyone else’s did!). We told the waitress who told us we were wrong and that the bacon came with the salmon. We checked the menu later and she was incorrect. So my husband never got what he ordered. The starters were good and my blade of beef was excellent. My only criticism , apart from not getting what was advertised, was both meals lacked vegetables. Colour is an important facet of a meal and they really needed some greens on the plate. We told a different waitress at the end of the meal that the bacon had been missing but she just shrugged. No apology, nothing deducted from the bill.

I wanted to write another review as this time we can review how it was for us when we arrived in a large group, hadn’t booked and with dietary requirements. Conclusion ...Just as good and very accommodating. We all ordered different and the food was rated delicious by all of us . One of the party had been put on a special diet by a dietitian so more complicated than gluten free, we asked what she could have? The chef suggested a dish , made it to the requirement and she thoroughly enjoyed it . We will return it was perfect for what we wanted on that day , a great get together , we wanted feeding good food and quick. All accomplished, thank you and the staff are a credit to you

The restaurant is well decorated throughout. The staff were extremely efficient throughout the meal. There was a good selection of starters and mains to chose from as well as several specials.I chose the duck leg confit with pak choi and sesame seeds as a starter followed by scampi with thick cut chips from the favourites menu. The duck was perfectly cooked and the starter simply delicious. The scampi and chips main was also very good and of good portion size. They also have a decent selection of beers; lagers and wines. Prices were very reasonable indeed and it really was a pleasure to dine there. In principle great food, service and price and I will certainly pay a repeat visit

The Cumberland ring that followed was poor. Firstly served with onion rings, mushroom and tomato (more suited to a steak) without a jug of gravy in sight. Party of 5 pre ordered as we were short on time. After arrival I enquired if I could pay for the entire order up front. 'No', came back the reply. Wow. OK then. Let's take a seat away from Mrs Grumpy. Waitress comes over a few minutes later with menus. We've pre ordered we tell her and off she trots. Next thing she's back to take the drinks order and a few minutes later they arrive. 10 minutes after that she's back again asking us if we are actually in a hurry as they've a large group in the other room. Um, yes, that's why we pre ordered. Another 10 or so later time's running short so we ask if it will be much longer. After pre ordering the day before we've now been sat here 30 minutes. This gives us a total of 20 minutes to have a 'leisurely' lunch AND get back to work. On to the food. The rag pud was apparently quite good, with overcooked chips, as was the Pescatora. The lamb tagine however was tough, both of them. If you're paying that much for a meal, you'd expect at least the meat to be cooked properly. Cheese pie was acceptable, but the chips that came with it were raw and the salad was soggy, drowned in dressing. When they did try to take my money, there was a problem with the card reader and I had to pay at reception. By this point they'd decided to give us the round of drinks free. The last 3 times here have been disappointing. The other half came for a works do last Christmas & she said the food was a disgrace. Poor to VERY mediocre. Think we'll all be booking somewhere else in future.

In the past we have been disappointed with the food at Fitzy's which has been a shame as it's a short walk from home and the patio is lovely on a sunny afternoon. However the bar has been refurbished and is now sleek, modern, welcoming and comfortable. A new chef has been taken on and the meal we had on this visit was delicious. The cheese and onion and meat and potato pies, all home made, were wonderful. The staff were lovely and couldn't do enough for us, a credit to the manager, Sheila. She herself was determined to make our visit a great experience. The chef even produced an extra portion of veg to supplement a healthy appetite! We'll definitely be recommending it to friends and colleagues that they go back and see how much it has changed.

First of all let me start by saying that the setting is beautiful, the gardens are well maintained and very picturesque. Now, I'm not saying that I am an afternoon tea connoisseur , but I have eaten afternoon tea a lot at different places. I expect for afternoon tea that I should receive a good selection of sandwiches and several mini cakes, like petit fours, and a scone with clotted cream, butter and jam.Well today I took my mum to Fitzys for afternoon tea. It was a group on deal but still wasn't cheap. We entered to bar/restaurant and because it's a beautiful day we chose to sit on the terrace overlooking the beautiful grounds. The service with us the afternoon tea and the drinks was quick. After that it went downhill and no one ever came back to us and I have to go and ask for more tea!Now the afternoon tea. Well it wasn't afternoon tea. We had a choice of ham and mustard sandwiches and cheap cream cheese and cucumber! I would at least expect an egg mayonnaise on there. There was no fish as we had requested no fish due to an allergy. Now the cakes. Well, cake. Not a selection of cakes as you would expect on an afternoon tea but a scone each and large slice of what appeared to be Victoria sandwich. It wasn't Victoria sandwich but coconut cake with jam and butter cream in the middle of the dry coconut sponge cakes. Revolting. The scone was its only saving grace, it was very nice. Shame that we were supplied with flora margarine and not butter and cheap whipped cream and not clotted cream. The jam was nice though. There was a small bowl of strawberries for us to share too which tasted ok. This came with a glass of prosecco which was a nice addition and to be honest the scone and prosecco was the nicest part of the whole afternoon tea. I mentioned all of the above comments to an assistant manager as we left after only 45 minutes of being there and to be honest she didn't seem at all bothered that I told her it was the worst afternoon tea I'd ever had. Her response was , I will pass your comments on to the chef" and it was left at that. If you're thinking of having afternoon tea here, don't. Go and find somewhere else Even though i got this on groupon it was still around £10 each which was an utter waste of money

Whilst staying at the Higher Trapp Hotel we had one evening meal in Fitzy's Restaurant. We were lucky enough to get the corner table overlooking the gardens which is pole position for tables in this restaurant. The seating is comfortable and the tables are well spaced so that you are not on top of each other. My vegetarian wife had a spicy vegetable tagine which she said had a good selection of vegetables and lot of flavour. I had the haddock which very white and flaky. We finished with an assortment of ice cream for my wife and chocolate creme brulee for me. The brulee had an extremely fine layer of caramelised suger on the top and was excellent. We enjoyed both our desserts. The restaurant was overseen by restaurant manager Sheila. She was on hand all the time to make sure everything went smoothly and again at breakfast time two days later. It is re-assuring to see someone who knows how a restaurant should be run. All in all a very pleasant evening.

My wife and I have just returned from a 2 night stay on a deal with Travel Zoo.At a cost of £79 for 2 nights bed and full English breakfast,it was a steal. We dined in fitzys on both nights and found the dining a great experience. The food itself was excellent and served piping hot by the gloved waiters. We had salmon and a traditional beef roast the first night which was excellent followed by the local brand ice cream- pear drop flavour recommended! The second night we had bread and ciabatta served with olives and olive oil on wooden platters. This was followed by a huge gammon steak with fried egg and pineapple. My wife plumped for the the linguine Pescator which surpassed the best she had eaten in any Italian restaurant. Finally the waiting staff, who were mostly young people and all had a polite and friendly attitude to the diners. Our room was number 4 in the hotel itself with nice views of the surrounding gardens and distant hills and fields.Yes- the curtain and carpets looked a little tired but the room was bright and clean and excellent value for the price paid.Where we just lucky on our visit?-I don't think so. I would recommend High Trap Hall to anyone looking for good clean accomodation and a positive dining experience!

We ate twice here (staying in the hotel) breakfast was great plenty of choice both continental and cooked .Regarding the evening meal first night really enjoyed the "rag pudding" chips were amazing and my wife enjoyed the lamb shank, however the second night my wife tried the surf and turf from the "special board" and I tried the rogan josh both were nothing spectacular and the chips were nothing like the previous night .........bit of a let down

We are here on a deal so we where straddled with a set menu which wasn't too bad to be honestTrouble is the place felt rather unwelcoming and soulless.Breakfast very good though It just doesn't quite have that ' I will come again touch'Just a thought a restaurant Maitre'd or Front of house would certainly help

We had reserved a table here for a large group lunch and were pleased to have a lovely round table with plenty of room for us all.The menu is varied with excellent choices and a very good kids menu too. The food was lovely although quite slow in coming it was worth the wait. They were also very slow to clear plates and bring pudding menus etc. This is not a criticism of the staff that were there who were very good, more the fact that they appeared way understaffed. Beautiful location and will aim to stay over next time.

My husband, sister and I arrived at the Trapp Forge on a Saturday night without booking just in case they could fit us in. Sheila, the Manageress, was really helpful and even though they were fully booked managed to fit us in with a smile and welcome so that did not feel we were a nuisance. From then on, even though the place was really busy, the service was excellent. Luke, our waiter, was efficient, friendly, welcoming, but not over effusive, really professional. We all had something different and every meal was first class, well cooked and delicious. We would all highly recommend the restaurant and will definitely be returning. Thank you.

We called in here Saturday teatime for a meal and easily got a table although we hadn't booked. There was plenty of choice on the menu along with several daily specials, and the food was well presented with good service by pleasant staff.Fitzy's is a lovely place to visit for a meal or just a drink and one I would recommend

Food was fabulous, though we did wait a long time to order even though there were only a handful of people there. We had chicken with mushroom sauce which was lovely, nice veg too, tho we had to order potatoes separately. Wine was expensive though expected for a hotel. Great views over the Lancashire country side, highly recommended

My wife and I came across this quaint tea shop quite by chance, as it is on the outskirts of the village and laid back from the road behind a small cobbled forecourt. On entering we found it contained eight tables and quite busy for a Saturday afternoon. We ordered coffees and sandwiches which were made to order and absolutely delicious.I shall definitely return and tell my friends about it.Im not certain of the opening hours,so will need to check before I return.I thoroughly recommend it.

Spent an evening here with some friends, staying elsewhere. First up, it's uphill, and I mean uphill, to get here but the views and the service were easily worth it. Kaitlyn (really hope I remembered this right) properly looked after us. Thank you.

Great food, great service, reasonably priced. Would recommend. I ordered the ox cheek pie and husband ordered the fish and chips which were both lovely, being really picky the mash were a bit on the dry side, but I would still recommend.

This was not our first visit to the Calf’s Head but it has to be the best meal we have ever had. It was a large family gathering and despite the size of the party the service was friendly and efficient. Looking forward to a return visit, hopefully not in the too distant future.

I tried to order a full English breakfast without a few items and they wouldn’t swap me anything and tried charging me a extra 1.50 so I thought man 10er for my breakfast that’s a bit steep . So just got bacon and sausage baton and I got one bacon one sausage for 5.50 and to top it off it was cold and chippy sausage. Joke off a place will not be going again . And there is dogs running around in the kitchen
