My wife and I came across this quaint tea shop quite by chance, as it is on the outskirts of the village and laid back from the road behind a small cobbled forecourt. On entering we found it contained eight tables and quite busy for a Saturday afternoon. We ordered coffees and sandwiches which were made to order and absolutely delicious.I shall definitely return and tell my friends about it.Im not certain of the opening hours,so will need to check before I return.I thoroughly recommend it.

Bobbed in to escape the rain and have a cuppa. Found the owner and her daughter to be very friendly, chatty and generous. Sadly no food after 2.30pm so had the last sausage roll, which they didn't charges for.

Visited here today. My friend who I was with used to visit this place with his mum when she lived in the area and has done over the last 30 years. I have to say the homemade cake and ice cream was absolutely beautiful and I do believe you can taste the difference than over places around whalley. No wonder this place is still trading after all those years. The lady who served us was the owner who I found to be very friendly. I will be going back to this little Gem more often.

We visited this tea shop for many years as we enjoyed the home cooked food so much. However we have to agree with other comments where people have experienced a lack of welcome. It had appeared to us that the proprietor and her daughter favoured the local elderly regulars. They did appear less friendly with others particularly with cyclists and hikers. We didn't feel the welcome was as good as it could be. We ignored this feeling as we enjoyed the food so much. However we decided not to continue visiting as the last occasion we visited we asked for extra butter as we'd only been given one pat for a baked potato. The proprietor was clearly not happy with our request saying that she would have to speak to her daughter first. A friendly welcome and attitude is such an important part of the experience. We hope the owners learn this.

Our previous visits to the Toby Jug have been enjoyable but on this occasion we were told at 2.30pm that we could not have a sandwich, just coffee and cake. Disappointing! Normally a gem, some customers might like a sandwich in the early afternoon.

We visited this tea shop last week. The menu is very varied and it is such a change to have healthy, low calorie food for those of us trying to watch our weight! Not enough food outlets do this. I had a cottage cheese open sandwich, which was very colourful with an excellent assortment of salad and fruit items. Much enjoyed! It is a number of years since we visited because it is only open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday each week. Now we know the days open we will make sure we visit on the right ones. Staff friendly and helpful.

This was my 2nd visit in as many weeks. The premises are spotlessly clean, the service excellent & the soup is the tastiest for miles it was served with a delicious warmed bread roll. Today’s soup was carrot, chickpea & chorizo. Last visits soup was leek, white bean & potato (for me the best soup I’ve EVER had!!!!) Followed by a scrumptious dessert of apricot & apple crumble slice served with a choice of cream or ice cream. As Arnie says “I will be back”

My husband and I recently found this gem of a cafe in Whalley. The cafe is in a cute listed building with ample parking on the edge of Whalley. The atmosphere is cosy and friendly with a selection of lovely home made food. We chose salad and were so delighted at the taste, price and presentation of the food. This is without doubt the best cafe in Whalley. Well done!

only opens certain days and times, very strange place and very basic compared to the rest of the village, small choice of menu maily jackets or sandwiches but found it pricey compared to similar places. Food was o nothing outstanding but they will probably need to up their game with all the new and upcoming places to eat.

We only stopped for a hot drink on a snowy day on our way elsewhere. But we were greeted with a warm welcome. Lovely coffee. Interesting menu of teas and the food menu looks good too. Including Anglers platter with smoked trout, jacket potatoes, sandwiches and homemade cake. We also took home a jar of homemade chutney. We will be back to sample these delights another day.

Last visited here in 1995 so wasn't sure what to expect after 22 years. On a Saturday lunchtime it was packed in large part with locals. This place exholts home made food and remained me of a visit to my nans when younger. Opted for cheese and onion sandwiches which came with a great salad, coleslaw and for some reason a side serve of crisps? Downside is, personally, a need for faster service. Only one member of staff was taking orders and payment on our visit. When you factor in the small talk with all the locals that appeared to be in service times began to drag with a real struggle getting our orders taken. Overall the service issue isn't a deal breaker as the food is great while prices very reasonable. Didn't have a cake to finish in large part as we couldn't get the attention of the waitress to take the order. Nevertheless on settling up the chocolate brownie was the biggest I've ever seen and I should have tried harder to get her attention! Definitely give this place a go especially as they seem to have bounced back so well after the 2015 floods.

We won't let the flood damage stop business in our beautiful village of Whalley! The Toby Jug opened last Thursday after being hit hard with flood damage at Christmas. WOW - what a delight and positive sunny disposition from the Jane and Marie, both of whom are a joy to be in their presence, and role models for all in so many ways. We had been promising to visit for ages and we were just about to visit, but the floods came fast and furious. However, the 6 month wait was worth it!! The service was outstanding, the food was fantastic, the best salad you could ever want, with no awful dressings put on without consent, great! It will now be a regular trip, and the Chow Chows loved it, so much stroking from clients! Thank you Jane and Marie, and such wonderful cakes too, just eaten one of take outs! Next one tonight!

I've never felt so unwelcome in a cafe before. We only wanted a quick warm drink and was told that only the lunch menu was being served in the TEA SHOP. Was told that people would be waiting for the table and were reluctantly told we could have a "quick drink". I then overheared staff moaning about us not ordering any food behind the counter. My wife said other customers were also overheard complaining about my well behaved son and niece.Seems to be a local eatery for local regulars only, not somewhere for a cup of tea. We visit Whalley lots and always go to Benedict's down the road, which we will continue to do.Your loss Toby Jug, not mine!

If you're looking for something quintessentially English from a tea room then this isn't a bad place to start. We had cream teas and the scones and jam we excellent. It was a cold snowy day and the wood burning stove provided a lovely warm backdrop.I think the only negative point would be the older lady who served us. She was quite frosty and I got daggers for opening the door to let a young woman in with her pram. It wasn't particularly busy and there was plenty of room for her so I'm not sure why this was frowned upon. The tea and scones were first rate though so on that alone I would happily go back.

So just got bacon and sausage baton and I got one bacon one sausage for 5.50 and to top it off it was cold and chippy sausage. Joke off a place will not be going again . And there is dogs running around in the kitchen

My family of 6 decided it would be nice to meet up for lunch and chose The Pavilion as our venue. We arrived at 12:30 and there were a couple of tables of people in front of us. It was drizzling with rain and you have to queue outdoors, so not the best start. When it was our turn we were told all the tables for 6 were full. We asked is there a waiting list to which we were told no - you just have to wait or come back. As it was raining we asked when we should come back (as we thought a look around Shackleton would be nice) we were told an hour. So at 1:30 we went back and queue again to be told all the tables for 6 had filled again. So we asked can we get a table for 4 and a table for 2. We queued again and long story short - eventually around 2pm were allowed in the cafe and they put two tables together for us. Drinks order taken - great. Food order taken great (or so we thought). After about 45 minutes we were approached and told the tablet the order was taken on, had not sent it through to the kitchen!!!! Not so great! The order was then taken using good old paper and pen. To be fair we were given a complimentary round of drinks and our order was then prioritised and arrived within a reasonable timescale, given we all had something different to eat. Now on a very positive note the food and presentation was excellent. Good size portions, well cooked and very tasty. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Once seated we were looked after by Andrea who quite honestly saved the day, she was very much customer focused and was a people person who wanted to give a good service. This was a complete contrast to the person who was managing the door and table allocation, who was quite abrupt and gave the impression that nothing was their fault and they could do no wrong. In summary, we can highly recommend the food but the system to getting to a table on a wet day just does not work. We all thought the Pavilion needs to rethink their waiting procedures. Invest in Restaurant Pagers and make a name list for tables or at least make a name list (not bothered they dont take actual bookings as I am sure people would let them down) but if you have arrived and are around and about it’s highly likely you really do want a table. Maybe even a tannoy system with a number being called when a table becomes available. I think they are also missing a trick, as if people had pagers or there was a tannoy then customers might go and brows around Shackletons and as a result some people might make spur of the moment purchases too. We also noted there were a number of elderly people queuing who were struggling to stand for such a long time and in the rain. We appreciate it was busy and they can’t control the weather, but with a little more thought and a slight adjustment here and there, our visit could have been be a much better experience.
