Fabulous breakfast with a friend. I had avocado and salmon on sourdough, it was absolutely lovely. Great atmosphere and lovely staff.

We had my Dads funeral wake on Wednesday 23rd April 2025 at 4pm at the chieftain and I can’t thank them enough. The booking process was simple and staff were very friendly. The Buffett was delicious and plentiful. My mum was going to stay just for one as it was hard enough for her but due to the friendly atmosphere, the light and spacious area, she actually stayed all evening. Wonderful service and I highly recommend to anyone.

A fantastic Britstop and in their gardens they have lots of animals including goats and a white peacock. Lovely traditional pub and good staple food, nothing posh, but very enjoyable. Located in the middle of nowhere it is narrow roads to get there but you are rewarded with wonderful countryside and lots of walking opportunities and they are very dog friendly. Great real ale and well worth a visit.

The whole place is falling apart you can see how unorganised they are and they don’t have a clue the staff are just awful I was met by a very rude member of staff called callum couldn’t believe his attitude food is so poor will never be back! Bring back the beefeater premier inn staff don’t know how to run restaurants!!!!!!!!

Very sad to see that this local pub is closing. The staff are great and it’s a lovely place to eat as the food is really good! If people had any prior warning this was going to happen I’m sure we would have rallied round and supported them as much as we could. We have held our Stroke Association support group there for many years and we are closing as a result.

My goodness, what a place to eat outside in the summer, overlooking the lake. And I challenge you to find better service, which was genial, courteous with a genuine interest and care in your dining experience. The food is largely traditional and very well cooked along the choux pastry, crème brûlée, rump of lamb, terrine wrapped with Parma ham line etc along the lines of Carrier, Wareing, Smith, although I liked the branch out into Japanese milk bread. That said the cocktails were very a la mode. Personally, I like a little more adventure in my food but I suspect it suits the clientele. Overall, tres bon!

We've used this pub as a ramble lunch stop a few times, as well as this one. Staff helpful when I made the booking - and on our arrival, nearly an hour early! This was because we'd come by train to Potters Bar, intending to go on to Brookmans Park by rail replacement bus. However the bus was delayed so we decided to start the walk at Potters Bar instead - meaning a shorter morning walk. Very well looked after by the friendly staff and we all enjoyed the delicious food.

Beautiful traditional Pub beautifully set in Old Hatfield. Popped in yesterday with my hubby. Good selection of beers and lovely service from the lady at the bar. Warm & friendly Saturday early evening. Purchased drinks and hubby got a plate of Chilli and Rice for free. As long as you purchase a drink for £4.50. I had a bowl of chips which were £3 they certainly went down a treat! right old traditional pub grub!🙂 Great locals who made us feel so welcome & Doggy Friendly with a garden out the back. Will be back again very soon.

Always a pleasure. It’s been over 10 years since we last came as we’ve moved further away. It didn’t disappoint, I’m so glad we booked. The food and service were great. The kid’s portions are great. Overall it was a lovely meal in great surroundings.
