Very nice and very good food. Nice atmosphere and the server was very nice. I recommend the steak it was very nice and an overall great place to eat

Lovely rooms. Friendly staff. We had a great dinner on the first night. Disappointed that breakfast was not provided. Breakfast was advertised when we booked. Room prices were adjusted to reflect this when we arrived. There were some good cafes nearby but perhaps more snacks can be placed in rooms. Upon leaving at 11.00am we had to use the 24hr access fire escape which wasn't ideal. Another guest was trying to pay. Otherwise good. Would stay again.

We visited for a Mother's Day meal. The staff were very busy trying to reset tables for the next sitting, which meant that they were rushing around, throughout the time we were there. A card had been placed on the table to reming us that we only had a set time for our booking. We were fine with eating within this time, but it did seem that there was more emphasis on getting ready for the next diners, rather than looking after the ones who were currently dining. There were no check backs at the table to see if everything was okay. The food was mediocre. Some food on the plate was hot, some was cold. Staff were friendly and engaged with the children when taking our order. The worst part about our experience was the manager approaching a member of staff a couple of feet from our table and berating her in front of diners. He loudly told her "I'm giving you ten minutes to sort your life out!" Having noticed that our table had seen and overheard the commotion, he continued, then got himself a pint of lager and sat at the back of the dining room with his own guests. This was very unprofessional and most unpleasant. The staff member had been working hard and continued to do so, with such professionalism. We won't be dining here again. I have no time for management who treat their staff so poorly. Service and food standards have declined but it's unsurprising, if this is how staff are treated.

Excellent stay , Room very clean and tidy all extras in room tea ,coffee , etc Meal in restaurant very good would recommend when staying , one recommended to put a none slip mat in bath for shower use, But a excellent stay friendly staff we’ll done would stay again

Went with the family for the second time for Sunday lunch and I can honestly say it was one of the best in the area. Thank you chequers team. We will be back

Overnight stay Really helpful staff Food average- can you simplify the menu and improve the ingredients? Missed breakfast as it was at 800 and my train was at 730 - would be great to show this on Booking. Com

This was a special experience Waiting staff were excellent and had good knowledge of the menu Food was amazing and the venue. Will be back to try the new March menu

Fantastic dinner - had the BBQ Ribs (Chefs Special) some of the best ribs I’ve had! Cooked to perfection, with slaw, chips and corn on the cob. Followed by apple and cinnamon crumble. Staff were great, very friendly and welcoming.

NYE 2024!! What a night!! Absolutely fantastic. £20 per person includes a glass of bubbly on arrival, DJ and a buffet. Staff were so lovely as always when we go. A huge thank you from all 18 of us!!

Booked as it was fairly close to my Christmas party a little pricier than others closer but had parking. Greeted by Connie who was lovely she showed me to my room but also showed me the 24 hour entrance as its not manned at night. My room was very large as was the ensuite, bed very comfortable couple of small tears in the duvet cover but they weren't going to affect anything, however the sink in the ensuite was very small and had no plug which made having a wash difficult. Breakfast was lovely great choices available. On the whole a lovely place.

Very friendly and efficient staff, room was clean, fresh and everything we needed. Very impressed with the quality of the bedding and the softness of the bed.

Wow - what can I say? Great staff, great place, stayed here 3-4 times with work and brought my wife and son here it was so nice. In room 5 for the next few nights and didn’t think it could get any better than the others I’ve stayed in, but it is! This place just keeps getting better and better!

We visited as a large group (children, dogs & adults) after football on a Saturday lunch time. We received a very warm welcome. Great space near the bar for a group together. Excellent food - bar snacks and finger foods. The halloumi fries were amazing as was the fish and chips. Great size portions. We will definitely be back! Thank you.

Highly recommend The chequers Inn, as a business user staying away most weeks its extremely refreshing when you have a warm welcome on check-in. All you can wish for when away from home is a clean bedroom with a comfy bed, Nice shower with hot water & a decent bite to eat before getting a good nights sleep. Bonus being a nice breakfast in the morning. The Chequers Inn provided all the above & the rooms have recently been redecorated & refurbished, food was perfect both evening meal & Breakfast. Price was within budget as well, so also ticked that box. All in all a nice stay that sets you up for a good day !! I'll definitely be staying there again when back in the area.

Held a wake recently, superb food very plentiful and well worth the money. Polite and very helpful staff, can hoghly recommend.

We stayed for 1 night to celebrate our anniversary. We had a warm welcome from the staff. We were shown to our room. Which was clean and comfortable perfect for our stay. We had dinner in the restaurant. Excellent service from the staff food was amazing and reasonable priced. Would recommend and we will come and visit again soon.

Sadly this venue has gone downhill. When we first started visiting years ago the Staff were always friendly, welcoming and organised. The food menu was extensive and always fresh and delicious. On our last three or so visits, the service has been absolutely appalling. Tables are left unattended to the point where even guests seated for dining have to approach the bar to ask for anything and even then it takes a long time to receive menus, drinks, sauces etc. It is no longer welcoming and attentive even when there are at least 5 staff visible and only a couple of tables with guests. The fact it used to be fully booked on a Saturday and is often empty now is very telling. Such a shame.

Friendly and attentive staff provided an excellent service. We enjoyed a drink in the garden before going inside for food. The gardens are beautiful. Calming music played which gave a holiday vibe in the sunshine. We both opted for the Sunday roast (trio meats) which was huge, delicious and well seasoned. We did think that it could have been a little hotter but we still enjoyed it very much. I would highly recommend the restaurant and bar.

Very well presented accommodation. Large comfortable room, with all the provisions you need. Extremely helpful and friendly staff too. Highly recommended.

Pub Quiz was amazing with truly immersive ‘Quiz Master’ Matt providing many laughs. Good prizes and good questions! Would highly recommend.

Went there on Saturday night and there was one other couple in the restaurant, despite there being an excellent jazz singer for entertainment. The food was high quality, this was a return visit and the food was great on previous visit. Service was great and the restaurant ambiance is also good. Why only 3 stars? 2 of us ordered a sea bass risotto dish. Really nice but very small portions. A decent amount of rice would have not cost the pub much more. We then had a shared cheeseboard (for 2) at over £12. Beautifully presented but barely enough cheese for 1. Btw I am not a big eater and often find portions too large and this is why I have left this review. I do Hope that the team address this as it might explain lack of customers.

Wish we lived nearby! Food was very good, nice to have something rather than the standard pub menu. The beef brisket pie was one of the best I've ever had, my husband loved his pork belly bonbon. Excellent value. Next time we're in the area we'll definitely be making a booking.

Poor service and not the first time. The chain sent an e-mail, supposedly offering £5 off for a £15 spend, when I tried to redeem the server said the voucher had been used before, it hadn't. The chain have sent three mails to me in the last week with the same offer, so not sure if they have a problem. If their IT can't cope, don't send offers.

Nice building, good evening meal, great room, nice breakfast. Great staff. Can't praise this venue highly enough. We were made very welcome when we arrived and were very pleasantly surprised with the quality of our room. Spacious, comfortable and excellent shower in the bathroom (makes a change from most). Evening meal was good quality and we would return for the food alone if we were in the area again.

I was recommended to go but initially thought the menu was a bit limited....But...the food was fantastic. I had the muscles (the sauce was devine) and the bread was beautiful The service was great and a special mention to David who was such a great host and very attentive and a genuinely nice guy through out. Please can you add mini deserts and coffee to the desert menu...I really wanted desert but was full

Consistently good food friendly staff and lovely atmosphere. Will keep visiting. Lunchtime prices good value too. Especially enjoy Friday evening music.

Lovely welcome lovely service very nicely decorated Team were welcoming and friendly Service was very efficient our food took no time at all The only reason I scored a 4 and not a 5 was because I thought it was too expensive Two cheese and chutney sour dough sandwiches with a few mixed leaves Two fish finger sandwiches served the same. The sour dough was absolutely gorgeous but it was so small There was 1 jumbo fish finger cut in half and that was it £9 it was delicious but not enough The bill for 4 small sandwiches two bowls of skinny fries, 3 cokes and one cider £57

The food and service were excellent. Our waitress Michelle was very attentive. Would highly recommend this pub/restaurant.

3 of us booked a table before going to watch Charlton play Stevenage…what a good choice we made! 2 x Cod and Chips with Onion Rings and 1 x Pie and Mash were all cooked superbly.. the batter on the fish was as good as I’ve ever had..good choices of lager/cider also went down well.. our server, Kayla, was charming, knowledgeable and good fun.. one final point.. the Onion Rings were off the scale!

What an unexpected pleasure! We booked this as part of a stay over for a family party and we were impressed with the decor and cleanliness of the room and pub, and friendliness of staff. The room had air conditioning which was a bonus as we were there on the hottest day of the year. Great selection for breakfast which was fresh and delicious.

Out standing place a complete refit and stunningly beautiful great choice of drinks loved the choice of sides the staff were really friendly definitely recommend

The refurbishment is very nice and excellent service. Really enjoyed the food would highly recommend. We sat inside but the garden looks lovely

This was our first visit after recent refurbishment and change of ownership. We were very impressed with the outstanding food, ambience ,service ( thank you Summer) and decor. We will be back very soon
