Excellent food and service - beef wellington was perfect ! Will definitely go back 😊

There was 9 of us. All had lovely Sunday Lunch. Plenty of it and tasty.

Booked a night here as we had a busy few days in London planned. Were up early to get out but no hot running water to at least have a wash. Was told they would 'boost the boiler' so we waited 30 mins and still not hot water at all. Dropped the hotel a note and was told 'ah old hotel, small water tanks, the other guests must have used it'. Its incidental that we only saw one person who may have been another guest during our entire stay- but regardless- being able to assure hot running water seems such a basic prerequisite for running a hotel that you wonder whether this particular building is fit for such a purpose. If you don't need a wash however- then this place is probably great.

This was our 4th visit, and each time we have requested a different room. Each stay has been as wonderful as the last, and the next time will be August for our anniversary, when we will request one of the remaining rooms we have yet to stay in. On this past visit we managed to make time for dinner at the Inn and we were very much impressed. At breakfast I asked my partner, if he could change anything at The Wellington, what would it be? and he said, "Honestly, nothing." The staff are always been kind, caring and friendly. Hence why we keep coming back. Our November trip had someone playing a musical instrument in their room quite early, but how often does that happen and I too wouldn't change a thing. However, I am keen to ask if there are any areas Dog free as this is a bug bear of mine. I assumed the back if the restaurant area, where it is carpeted is dog free, but not certain. Looking forward to our next visit. My photos are of rooms from previous stays and this stay.

Lovely restaurant with a cosy, relaxed atmosphere. The staff were fantastic, friendly and attentive. The food was absolutely delicious! We had the Sweet Potato Hash and added chorizo, halloumi and two poached eggs and also had the skin on fries. Highly recommend visiting this spot!

The Lunch Booking went well and we got the window table we requested. The Front of House Manager was friendly and welcoming. My guest and I were looking forward to Fish and Chips but we were told that the Fish order hadn’t arrived (on a TUESDAY!??) so none of the Fish dishes were available. Very disappointing as neither of us wanted a red meat heavy lunchtime meal. There were few Chicken dishes and we opted, out of desperation, for the Small Plate skewers which were uninspiring for the price. Consisting of a few (very) small chunks of chicken and Chorizo on 2x 3 inch skewers on some Rocket, red pepper and a small, very flat, Flatbread. The Chorizo made it tasty. The Menus themselves, on clip boards, were very ‘thumbed’ and rather ‘dog eared’ which gave a rather “tired” and “grubby” (to be perfectly frank) first Dining impression. We ordered a couple of glasses of champagne to start, and these were brought promptly, and helped to detract from the disappointing appearance and availability of the Menu. The ambience was quite nice for a Village venue. The restaurant had a family orientated vibe. It’s a nice space, but I would say that it lacks what some of the ‘Chains’ such as Cote or Lussmans are offering. They tend to be my usual first ‘go to’ for Lunch with friends. They tend to be my benchmark in terms of quality of food, service and importantly, presentation.

Can honestly say I’m disappointed with this pub -,it could be sooo good but the slow service is terrible. I had to ask to order after waiting for ages ( it wasn’t even busy) I had to ask could we have a coffee, I had to ask for the bill and not once did anyone check we were ok or needed anything extra like another drink ? The food we had ordered was so simple - two soups and another starter from the menu but it just took ages to arrive. Nobody checked if the food was okay? I also think they would be better with a smaller menu consequently the food would be better than very average!

Our food was great, but our whole valentines night was spoiled. We had a booking at 6pm and on arrival were told our table was needed back by 7.45pm. Absolutely not a problem, however, we ordered both our drinks and food promptly. The starters took a while to arrive but not excessive, but then the wait for the mains was very long, not a real issue at the time as the manager was very friendly and joking with us as we ordered extra drinks etc. Finally our mains arrived, but literally whilst I was finishing my last mouthful, the waitress informed us that she needed the table. I asked if we could see the desert menu and was told there was no time, so I requested at least to have a coffee, this was also declined, even when I asked if we could sit by the bar to have one, this was also bluntly denied! I understand that being Valentines night, several sittings were booked, however, as discussed with the manager, it is not acceptable to time limit the tables if you are not able deliver the food within the time limits. We did receive an apology, just saying you were "really sorry, there is not much more I can say", but there was no offer in any way to make it up to us, by way of discounting the drinks or inviting us back at a later date etc. Especially considering that we have been to the Wellington on several occasions and indeed recommend the rooms to business colleagues when they come to visit me. Very disappointing end to what was supposed to be a special night!

A superb Inn, with lovely rooms (Samuel Pepys stayed here! ) overlooking the village church. Fantastic service from friendly, helpful and efficient staff. We go 3 times a year!

Amazing as always, staff are so welcoming and friendly and food was delicious. One of our favourite places in the world keep up the good work guys 😍

We had a lovely sunday set menu lunch with friends. The food was amazing but when we got home and checked the bill we had been over charged by over £60. We immediately called the pub, they checked the bill and confirmed we had been overcharged. They were very apologetic and refunded the money straight away. We will definitely go back.

My favourite place when working around Welwyn! The Wellington team really looked after me this week when my car broke down on their car park and i had to hang around for hours while it got sorted. The lovely team made sure i was ok, allowed me to sit and work most of the day and night and checked in on me even when busy, food was lovely! They also were really helpful with my odd requests to get the car moving (a very long extension lead). This is a must stay / visit if in Welwyn, food is always amazing, staff are always so friendly and although i didn’t stay this time the rooms are lovely! Thank you so much to the team! I appreciate you!

Had a super birthday lunch with my friend. Excellent service and superb food

I had a light lunch there with a friend and it was very nice.

Lovely meal, although my only complaint would be the speed of service, the restaurant wasn’t busy and a meal for two took us nearly three hours. The initial order was taken swiftly but we then had to wait nearly half an hours for dessert order and at the end I had to go to the bar to pay bill. Slight disappointment when the restaurant had maybe four other tables sat at.

We couldn’t fault the service. We found the drinks extremely expensive Food was Moderately expensive Most of us ordered the burger which wasn’t great… Tasted like a frozen burger. Chips were lovely Presentation of food was excellent Won’t rush back for the price, though

The pub is beautiful and the service here was some of the best I have ever experienced. The staff are very friendly and welcoming! The food was also delicious. We have just moved to the area and are thrilled to have The Wellington as our local!

Mine was a very poor restaurant experience when we ate there.

Came for lunch service was hit and miss waited for 20 mins before having to ask to order some drinks. Again had to ask for desert menu, then had to ask for the bill! We were not in a rush but it was almost as if we were invisible!

We had a lovely Saturday lunch at the Wellington. Friendly and attentive service, delicious food and a warm/welcoming atmosphere. Dog friendly in the bar area and provided a high chair for our baby niece. We will be back soon I'm sure! Highly recommend the Winter Warmers menu for those classic pub dishes that are perfect on a cold January day - and especially the pecan pie for dessert.

Had a lovely Sunday brunch with a friend. Food and drinks were tasty, and it was nice to be somewhere warm and inviting where we weren’t rushed.

Had a lovely meal on Friday night. Staff were brill. No long waits for food and drink. Food was great. Had some nibbles and shared some plates of food. Good atmosphere. Only minor thing was that the bourbon and pecan pie could have had more flavour of bourbon. But my mum and I really enjoyed ourselves. Thank you! Btw - we didn't stay over. But gave 5 for rooms anyway!

Room was comfortable, hotel atmosphere was nice. Pretty village location. Sadly the food was well below par.

Dinner on Friday night was an enjoyable experience. The staff were attentive and answered our questions about the menu. They were impressive in dealing with an enquiry about the ingredients by checking with the kitchen. They were gracious in substituting a missing ingredient. All in all, a very positive experience. Will visit again.

Average Sunday lunch V Good waiting staff and service Parking available in village centre. A la carte menu available on Sunday. Food tries to be modern but is indifferent. Often has turkey (healthy meat eaters who avoid mammal meat have trouble in these veg/vegan days). Disliked rubber, skin on roast potatoes.

Really nice staff who tried their best to provide a solution but we all walked away with a sour taste. In short we waited 35 minutes for breakfast - I totally get it if we were informed of the wait when we arrived, but to be seated and then have to ask where our food is doesn’t sit well. Especially when we have a hungry 3 year old. This is the 2nd time where we have had to wait a long time. Not coming back!!

Food was good in pleasant surroundings. Service had been good but took a downturn when we asked for another piece of toast only to be told no as kitchen was shut now for breakfast! It was just after 11am and find it hard to believe none able to put a slice of bread in a toaster!

Absolutely fab afternoon that was spur of the moment stumble with 2 dogs. Ate loaded potatoe skins and potted crab with lovely coffee. Service was superb and the staff all super friendly and swift. This type of service is missed and I would make the 25 min drive again just to be in the soft jazz, warm environment, with lovely welcoming faces.

We had a lovely Christmas Day dinner at the wellington. All the staff were very helpful and attentive and very happy to help. The dinner itself was delicious with generous portions but not too much that you felt uncomfortable afterwards. A very enjoyable experience.

We booked Christmas Day lunch at The Wellington and it was a lovely experience from start to finish. The atmosphere was very Christmassy and relaxed, our table was cosy and comfortable and the service was excellent - as was the food. We arrived very early for a lunchtime table, and were dealt with in a very friendly and efficient manner. We only had sandwiches and wraps but they were very good.

We have visited a few times and love The Wellington. The food is delicious. We love the rooms with the old beams and such a lot of character. All the staff are so welcoming and helpful. Love this place.

This a modern rustic Pub. Food was fantastic. The staff were attentive and friendly. Would recommend this for your Christmas parties will be back next year.

We came to the Wellington for a Christmas team lunch and everyone had a really lovely time! We even had special festive touches like Christmas hats and jokes on the tables that made everything feel fun straight away! Our pre ordered menu items made sure the service was really slick on the day and the team knew exactly who was having what! Thank you ☺️

I arranged our Board Christmas meal and everything was done very professionally, from the first booking to leaving after our meal. The table was set to perfection, the service was outstanding and the food was incredible. Thank you for a really great experience.

Had a lovely Sunday lunch with my parents and sister for my birthday. Food was amazing….my parents had been once before during the week but they and my sister had not had Sunday lunch . They all thought it was the best Sunday roast they’d had for a very long time! My burger was also the best I’d had probably all year

Lovely place for brunch and relaxed atmosphere. Was not very busy and easy to park nearby and walk up the high street to the venue. Staff were very friendly (a bit deaf at times!) and helpful. Seating was very spacious and not crammed in like in some places, and very bright with lots of natural light coming into the dinning area.

Absolutely beautiful, cozy and boutique retreat! The dinner and breakfast are amazing, great quality food and really friendly and personal service. I have stayed for business and cant wait to return! The room with the bath in the middle of it is lush!

We went for a friends Lunch time catch up, The Wellington was recommended. it has a good variety of food of Gastro pub/British culture. we had Deep fried Halloumi that was lovely followed by desert where I had Bread had butter pudding laced with Whisky - Very nice! - Good staff and a price that was expected.

We had such a lovely stay at the Wellington. The staff went above and beyond to help me with a very much needed earlier check in. The room was perfect exactly as it’s photographed. We ate dinner and breakfast in the pub and both were delicious. I would 100% recommend staying here and look forward to visiting again soon. Thank you

Recently had a big family birthday meal at The Wellington which was fantastic. Most of us had the Beef Wellington which was perfectly cooked and delicious, and other dishes and the children’s meals were all very good too. The service was excellent and everything was as we requested - Thank you to the Team!

Unfortunately I got severe food poisoning from the either the calamari or the prawn Linguine. I was probably just unlucky, but it’s still there 48 hours later. I phoned the restaurant to suggest they throw what they had left in the fridge away, but the boss wasn’t there. Waiting to hear back really. A friend had the linguini and was fine. I wouldn’t have put this feedback on but I received an email asking me to. I’d still eat there again - but not shellfish

A lovely pub/restaurant and rooms. Food and service was excellent and the rooms were individual and had lots of character. Price for bed and breakfast was good value too.

Stayed for two nights with family for a wedding, had dinner and breakfast, both were superb, food, very high quality and delicious, rooms are all lovely and spotlessly clean. Staff were all brilliant, couldn’t do enough for us, friendly and helpful, service was vey attentive. I would highly recommend this restaurant/hotel, we couldn’t fault a thing!!

Bit pricey and seating is a bit challenging as seats in windows are too high and you slip forward on them.

Amazing food. The chicken in the chicken dishes were overcooked and hard to chew. But great flavours. Delicious cocktails. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

In centre of town, narrow streets but large public car park at rear although customers can register for free parking in the premises. Lunch only but service good, not busy. Seats well upholstered, plenty choice of tables, chairs and benches. Menu had good choices and reasonable price.

Fab Sunday lunch!!! Extensive menu and all the food was exceptionally well cooked. We will definitely be regular visitors to The Welly from now on.

I was somewhat disappointed with our visit for lunch. The Wellington was very quiet and we did wait quite a while for our drinks whilst sitting opposite two tables that remained uncleared for some time. The food was okay but not as good as previous visits in the past.

We had a great meal and the service was fantastic.

Went for evening meal, had a warm welcome and excellent food and service. Signature Wellington absolutely delicious, will definitely be returning.

Firstly I hope to review this review once I have heard back from my email sent to the team at The Wellington. I booked the honey moon suit for the evening of our wedding day. Originally I booked only one night, I booked this particular room after being given a tour of all rooms and I booked this room a full 19 months ahead of the big day. 3 months prior to the day I called and booked an additional night in the same room to extend our mini moon. All good no issues. Sadly as soon as I arrived and looked at the number on our key tag my heart sank. I knew it was the wrong room. I had checked us in via the link in the email and my father had taken our bags and collected our key on our behalf as we were but at our reception - he want to know and therefore raised no questions. It was gone midnight, I was tired and so we stayed in the room we had been mistakenly given. The room was beautiful - as they all are there but it wasn’t the room I chose and booked so far in advance. Also directly at the top of the stairs that all guests use to access the room so very noisy and not an intimate feeling inside of the room. In the morning it was raised with staff by my sister who had also stayed with them. She was advised that the bride and groom had stayed in the honeymoon suit. This added insult to injury for me. Another bride and groom had ‘my’ room. After this I wasn’t reached out to by staff to offer an apology or seek more information. Was this my responsibility after they had been advised of a grave mistake? We decided as the bubble had already been bust and we had so many bags and bits already in the other room we’d just stay and take the hit and discus our disappointment and issue upon check out. Again sadly little concern or proactive investigation was offered. I’d like the wellington to look into their booking dates and room selection to see how this happened and feed back to me. We didn’t get to stay in the room we booked - well in advance, our room was given away. Sad and disappointed.

Absolutely fabulous experience, staff welcoming and helpful. Looked after us all with positivity and remembered things we had shared and asked about them. Probably one of our most lovely hotel rooms. Breakfasts on both days were delicious. Nothing was too much trouble. Thank you ☺️

Fantastic one night stay at this gorgeous 13th century inn. We had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant and both were fantastic. The staff are absolutely lovely, the room was beautiful - lovely shower, comfy bed, and my partner and I can’t wait to visit again!

My husband and I had a great meal at The Wellington. We each had a Beef Wellington which was absolutely superb - the beef was so tender, we were really impressed. It was probably one of the best main courses we’ve had all year!. Every aspect of the meal was delicious. The service couldn’t be faulted - the staff are friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend.

A beautiful old pub with fantastic timber beams and open fireplace centrally located in Old Welwyn near the church. Excellent food choices and a lovely atmosphere and plenty of beer and wine to choose from

To be honest... for such a well renowned pub in beautiful welwyn, we really expected a lot more. The barman who took our order at the table was lovely, and paid good attention to our drinks... the rest however was sadly average. The fish and chips was a small portion for the £18 they are charging... then the roast came out lukewarm... the service around the meal time was slow and wasn't the best. Sad really as for a 65 quid meal, it's not cheap and the food and service was lacking

Excellent experience. My wife is vegan and gluten free and the Wellington had lots of choice for her, which is unusual. The atmosphere was great, the service was amazing and the food was delicious. We were so impressed that we booked a table for their Christmas offerings on Dec 22nd. Loved it.

Went for Sunday lunch with friends. Menu was not was on the website, but still was ok. Went for the Trio Roast and it was lovely. Good portion of food, not too much or too little. Staff are very friendly and accomodating. Had a lovely meal, and would go back again. On the pricer side, but the location, food and restaurant was lovely, so you do get what you pay for.
