Draining the bath tub was extremely slow. Husband didn’t have time to have a bath because it was slow and we had a dinner reservation. Arrived for early check in at 10:45 and was told that breakfast service was over. When asked if you could please allow breakfast for us, as we were guests waiting for early check in, all was fine. Would have been nice not to have that conversation at the start of our stay. Also, small suggestion- nice thick dressing gowns for the room would be a lovely touch. All in all, was a lovely stay and we have already recommended your hotel and restaurant to friends.

The breakfast (included in our stay) was incredible, we even had coffees included. Stayed a night this week to attend a wedding nearby ... what a gem! ... lovely character Inn with tastefully modernised facilities - room was really nice and the breakfast in the morning was excellent, well cooked quality food -most importantly though the staff were extremely friendly and made us feel really welcome :) ... and finally ... the rates are reasonable ... so if you're looking for somewhere to stay in this area this one gets a big thumbs up from me!

Kerry and I stayed here as part of our big weekend birthday celebrations. All I can say is that it was perfect. The room was lovely, fresh, clean, with a wonderful big bath and laid on toiletries. The full English breakfast in the morning was superb (Other options available). Ellie went over and above the call of duty, getting a taxi for us, then saying it was delayed whilst we were waiting outside for it to arrive. Recommended.

We had an absolutely beautiful stay Easter weekend and waking up to the church bells on Easter Sunday was quite special. Beautifully clean and characterful room, comfortable bed and lovely bathroom. Breakfast was a wonderful bonus and very tasty. My only minor criticism would be that the TV could be upgraded as it’s very old/cheap…. But we weren’t really there to watch the TV!

The Wellington is a superb hotel / bar / restaurant in a very quaint location. The welcome was warm and friendly and check in was super easy. The room we stayed in (room 2) was spectacular, one of the best bathroom designs we have seen in a long time! The food was good but I suspect that as it was Easter Sunday, the team had had a very busy morning / lunch so our service was not great. We had to wait for almost 20 minutes to get someones attention to order a drink. The drinks themselves were fine. Overall, a great little find and if we are passing that way again, we will definitely stay here again!

Disappointing. We used to love this place and it was always on our list of regular ‘go- to’ restaurants for good quality food, however sadly it has gone downhill. We booked for Xmas last year 2022 with the family which was a disaster. My partner insisted on giving them another chance; as the food did used to be so good. Subsequently, we visited around another 4 times since, but every time has been a disappointment. This week was no different and as a result we won’t be returning unless they relaunch under new management. It feels like management have just ‘let the restaurant go’, run out of money or just lost interest in the business which is sad. There is only one person working front of house; which means no-body at the bar or entrance to greet you upon arrival. We’re left hanging around the front for a very long time before actively seeking the one staff member to check in. Eventually another team member clocks on to assist; but by then we are already tiered of the poor service. The poor guy on his own was good bless him, trying his best rushing around to see people in, take drinks orders, prepare said drinks behind bar and take food orders and serve and clear away!! Even though there were only around three tables of diners at a his time; this was still too much to expect one guy to manage efficiently. The carpet has never been cleaned in years, it’s filthy. The walls are grubby, the tables sticky, the toilets are disgusting , the decor tired, the fire not lit even though it’s freezing outside; it just felt cold and unwelcoming. The place lacks luster / TLC and the food is sub standard especially for the prices they charge, The fillet steak tough as old boots and the fish smelt old. The service almost non existent, so slow, we waited for so long to get our meals we gave up by dessert and so didn’t order one. We both remarked that it feels like the owners have just given up, or can’t be bothered anymore… or perhaps it’s just very poorly managed. Either way It would be a real shame if this place closed down.l but I can’t see it carrying on much longer in this capacity,

I stay and eat at The Wellington on a regular basis and honestly couldn’t speak highly enough of Ellie, Callum, Issac and the rest of the team. The scallops are some of the best I’ve had, tend to be pretty similar each week with pea puree and a rotating meat - chorizo, palma ham and pancetta which are always delicious! I’ve also had the beef wellington (lovely!) chicken supreme, duck, beef ragu, and various breakfasts. I’ve only ever not liked one, which I think was due to the herbs but they changed it without question. Rooms are lovely with a super comfortable bed, nespresso coffee machine, and roll top bath. Packed full of character and charm. Note; it is an old building so you do hear outside noise (and bellringing if you visit on a Tuesday or Sunday) however they do provide ear plugs and you get used to it! Would highly recommend 🩷 it’s my favourite place to stay.

Beautiful building, comfortable good bar staff and waitress's. But lacking in fine details.... Table that was allocated to us was "sticky" from what turned out to be poor varnish. Management knew about it BUT still put paying customers onto a table that they stuck to, damaging clothing and spoiling a special night. Management need to spend time with staff, showing how to serve a guest. Customer service is dying in this industry and it is one thing that will save and help expand a business. The food quality was OK, but the chef wanted to present a picture on a plate before ensuring the ingredients where cooked and flavoured well. Nice evening but could be Oh so better

We both Ordered the blackboard special, Beef Wellington. We were told it would be 20 minutes, we weren’t intending to have nibbles before but we went for the olives and bread, very basic fayre. Our beef Wellington arrived 45 minutes later. Unfortunately the pastry on the underside was raw. The jus, gravy to you and me, was cold. They seemed to be understaffed, two girls being kept very busy. Won’t be going back any time soon. It’s a shame as it’s a lovely space, had some atmosphere, a bit quirky.

Met a friend for coffee on a freezing morning, so rushed into pub from parking car. Meaning we both missed the signs about the car parking being controlled parking. Nothing alerted us to this in the pub, nor did any staff mention the need to input car reg at bar, which we completely missed as told to take a table as soon as we walked in. One week later £60 parking ticket. No receipt and bank statement showed transaction a day later. Decided not to appeal as if it failed the fee went up to £100. Visited pub and told to sort directly with parking company. However I noted a few similar comments on here with a reply from the Wellington to email them. So I did this twice, but no reply. I realise its was my fault, but I think it is pretty poor customer service. How hard is it for their staff to say 'Hello please take a table and if you are using the car park please enter your reg no in the tablet at the bar'! Or even a sign on the table.

The team are nice and I appreciate the varied vegan menu which other local pubs in Welwyn could learn from. The only suggestions I would have is please improve the vegan breakfast. The sausage isn't great. Would much rather prefer a soya based (or any other ingredient) which would add protein to the meal rather than the option at present which feels more like a vegetable finger than a sausage. The other suggestion would be please offer vegan flora with toast otherwise vegans only have the option of dry toast.

Whilst the area and buildings are beautiful, little things like soot and wax marks from candles on the wall and debris in the lamp shades above the tables let it down. The food is ok but for what it is it's over priced ... The "smash burgers" looked like they had come out a packet and we're over cooked, rather than being smashed balls of Berger meat .. the fish was over cooked to the point where the batter was too hard to eat.. the steak whilst cooked correctly was chewy the onion rings were more like tempura and even then over cooked tempura... The whole feel of the food was I'm trying to be posh but have failed at every aspect ... And finally whilst the staff were attentive at the start, at the end of the meal we were ignored and had to go up to the bar to pay. Unfortunately I will not be going for food again

Such a shame! My friend and I meet here at Christmas and Birthdays for breakfast every year. This year, we have both received a huge £100 fine for parking in what was always the pub carpark and used to be free. We were not notified on arrival to our reservation that we had to key in our registration numbers to validate parking. It was pouring with rain and we hadn't had to worry previously so didn't look around the car park in search of parking notices. This has made our tradition sour as breakfast has now cost £130 and has made me not wanting to return. The breakfast however was lovely and always friendly staff. Please can you advise visitors to sign in on arrival as this was a very unpleasant and unnecessary expense.

However, it has turned the corner big-time under new management this year. The food is now consistently very high quality, easily the best in the village and beyond.
