Our party of 5 was virtually ignored by staff who didn’t take our order until 30 minutes and after one of the party asked at the bar. Not all the food arrived said to be not entering system. Left not having any mains. Our bill had an item which was ordered but never arrived.

This is now actually called the Alde Cafe. I’ve been twice in the last three days. There are fancier places along the High Street, but you will not get a better meal there than you will find at the Alde. Sean is a brilliant cook who prepares every dish with both flare and a respect for tradition. It was the best fry up I have had in the last twenty years, and a welcomed alternative to the recent tendency of serving them up in thali dishes, with about a tablespoon of beans in one and a cubic centimeter of toast in another. I just had the kedgeree, which was magnificently prepared with haddock from the smokehouses along the Shingle. There are many reasons to come to ever-beautiful Aldeburgh. But I’d rank breakfast or lunch at the Alde Cafe at the very top of my list.

Wonderful experience from start to finish. Thank you very much to the staff who worked so hard and who helped with dairy and gluten free choices - So much on the menu can be adapted and nothing felt like too much trouble. The food was lovely and the service relaxed and unobtrusive. Will definitely return.

On Friday 11th October, my wife and me were looking forward to our fish and chips at lunchtime. We ordered 2 medium haddock and one portion of chips. The haddock was very small and mainly batter. The cost of this meal was £25, our local chippie charges around £18 for 2 pieces of large fish and a large portion of chips. We were very disappointed as we have been eating there each time we visit. Not next time we come to Aldeburgh.

Stopped in here after a lovely walk along the sea front. We were too early for evening food but we're made to feel extremely welcome. The lady behind the bar was extremely friendly and attentive to us. When the kitchen opened one of our group has dietary requirements that meant changes to the advertised meal, again she was so knowledgeable. The food was hot and fresh and all four of us said we will be returning on our next visit. Thank you!

nice spot, with seating indoors & out. Great selection of cakes/pastries and a pretty good menu with a specials board. really nice that brunch options are served all day. I gave a lower score only because we were let down a bit by service & food quality. At the till there was a little confusion as they didn't have everything i ordered - but i thought sorted out until at the table realised i had been overcharged, which they did correct after going back! The food arrived quickly and looked good - but we had 2 dishes that turned out really very salty. I'm not sure if it was just a mistake, but it spoiled the hot food.

We visited for a quick lunch for four after browsing the high street - we went and sat outside after being unsure whether to seat ourselves or whether we would be shown to a table; due to no signage and not being greeted at the door. We were given menus and listed off numerous items that weren’t available but ordered other items of the menu instead. However, a few minutes later the waitress came back to inform one of us that they also didn’t have the waffles we had ordered. Another 5 minutes past when the same girl came back to say they had no croque monsieur - we reordered both of these items and changed them. After 15 minutes we were given our drinks on a blistering day with no ice - we asked for ice. Given such a lovely day we had decided to sit outside, conveniently this was next to a window which separated us and the bar/kitchen area. However, the window to the bar was open so we could hear the staff openly discussing having no ice and having to go across the road to buy some - however they did not inform us, so were left sat there to the point we had to go back inside and re-ask. When the food arrived, it came in increments of 5 minutes, so all my friends had begun eating and I was still waiting on the bruschetta. When it finally arrived, it looked deceivingly appetising, however upon further inspection this was not the case. The toasted bread was soaked in balsamic vinegar to the point you could ring it out with a fork (almost like a sponge). It had completely lost its crunch and was incredibly acidic and soggy. I asked to change my bread as it was inedible - instead of giving me new toasted bread I was instead given 4 slices of white bread. Which isn’t exactly rectifying a valid complaint. By this time everyone else finished their meals, I had decided to leave the stale bread, and take it back into the waitress to reexplain why I wasn’t happy with it. I was greeted with a smirk, as she took it back to the kitchen, with the still window open! We could hear them impersonating us and mocking the complaint. We went and addressed the waitress for her unprofessional behaviour and rudeness to which all of the staff came out of the kitchen - to raise their voices and argue with us. We said we would pay for everything but the Bruschetta to which we were met with aggression, rudeness and an argument with multiple members of staff. A total lack of customer service, with a lack of care from all aspects. Would never return!

Best fish and chip shop in Aldeburgh. Had freshly cooked scampi and a medium cod, both with chips. The cod was so tasty and cooked in a light batter. Chips good and not too greasy. Always good to buy from here and eat on the sea wall by the beach. Good value for money.
