We visited for a quick lunch for four after browsing the high street - we went and sat outside after being unsure whether to seat ourselves or whether we would be shown to a table; due to no signage and not being greeted at the door. We were given menus and listed off numerous items that weren’t available but ordered other items of the menu instead. However, a few minutes later the waitress came back to inform one of us that they also didn’t have the waffles we had ordered. Another 5 minutes past when the same girl came back to say they had no croque monsieur - we reordered both of these items and changed them. After 15 minutes we were given our drinks on a blistering day with no ice - we asked for ice. Given such a lovely day we had decided to sit outside, conveniently this was next to a window which separated us and the bar/kitchen area. However, the window to the bar was open so we could hear the staff openly discussing having no ice and having to go across the road to buy some - however they did not inform us, so were left sat there to the point we had to go back inside and re-ask. When the food arrived, it came in increments of 5 minutes, so all my friends had begun eating and I was still waiting on the bruschetta. When it finally arrived, it looked deceivingly appetising, however upon further inspection this was not the case. The toasted bread was soaked in balsamic vinegar to the point you could ring it out with a fork (almost like a sponge). It had completely lost its crunch and was incredibly acidic and soggy. I asked to change my bread as it was inedible - instead of giving me new toasted bread I was instead given 4 slices of white bread. Which isn’t exactly rectifying a valid complaint. By this time everyone else finished their meals, I had decided to leave the stale bread, and take it back into the waitress to reexplain why I wasn’t happy with it. I was greeted with a smirk, as she took it back to the kitchen, with the still window open! We could hear them impersonating us and mocking the complaint. We went and addressed the waitress for her unprofessional behaviour and rudeness to which all of the staff came out of the kitchen - to raise their voices and argue with us. We said we would pay for everything but the Bruschetta to which we were met with aggression, rudeness and an argument with multiple members of staff. A total lack of customer service, with a lack of care from all aspects. Would never return!

We were in Aldeburgh on a Monday at 14.00, beautiful weather, looking for somewhere for lunch. Nothing open only Prezzo.(yuck) At 15.30 we wandered into the Chocolate Teapot, He had sold out of everything, except 4 halves of lobster. We ordered 3 of them. He grilled them with garlic & parsley butter, served with hot new potato salad. Stem broccoli in a sauce, and a mixed salad with dressing. The lobster halves were huge, and as nice as any lobster I have eaten. The sides were also delicious, and meticulously prepared. We sat outside,it was an incredible plate of food. We will be returning every time we are near Aldeburgh.

I visited Aldeburgh with my sister and niece (and dog) and stopped here for tea and a snack mid-afternoon. We sat outside in the small but welcoming courtyard and from that moment on we experienced the best customer service I have experienced for years! After a lifetime of working in hospitality I was seriously impressed. Friendly and welcoming but unobtrusive , an absolute delight! The tea was served in vintage china, the teapot was huge and filled with excellent tea, a carafe of iced water was also provided as was a bowl of water for the dog. The toasted sandwich ordered by my niece was well filled and looked delicious. The staff were absolutely fantastic and despite being busy they were charming and never stopped smiling - Well done and Thank You!

My husband and I went into this cafe after it had started to rain and we were greeted with a warm welcome from the lovely staff. We had the cream tea it was lovely. The portions were really generous and they provided fresh strawberries along with the scones jam and cream. The tea sets were adorable fine china and overall the atmosphere was lovely and homely. Would very much recommend!

A quaint little tea shop with a great menu, very popular and worth the wait for a table. Had the Camembert and a crayfish sandwich followed by a cream tea, was yummy. The staff are friendly and a great atmosphere.

We only stopped for a coffee - which was very good - but the food I saw being served up looked great. Small cafe on the main high street with a small outside seating area at the back. Quick friendly service.

Lovely lovely place! Best coffee I had on Aldeburgh High Street and felt like a really special place to sit and forget about the worries of the working week. The people next to us were having afternoon tea and it looked gorgeous. The lady who runs it is lovely and we will go back next time we are in Aldeburgh. Victoria sponge also very nice and I am a cake expert ( I eat cake most days ) Decor is perfect too.

Not an experience we will repeat. We booked afternoon tea for 5 people 48 hours in advance stating all our options. You would expect this would ensure the food would be ready in good time. We arrived early but accepted there would mean a wait. The waitress asked what we would like to drink but didn't tell us that our choices were not part of the package. At no time during the meal were we asked which coffee or tea we wanted as part of the afternoon tea. There were only 2 other customers seated at the time so we expected that there wouldn't be a lengthy delay in our food being served after the time booked. We were wrong. When the food eventually arrived 25 minutes after the booked time, it was only the savoury items. A few other customers arrived and were served their food (not pre-ordered) before us. Eventually after we had eaten the savoury items and waited for a considerable time for the sweet items we enquired when they would be served. This resulted in a senior staff member coming to our table and instead of giving any reason or apology for the delay she proceeded to argue with us in front of the other customers saying it was our fault!! The savoury food was tasty but the scones were heavy and pale and in some cases lacked fruit. The jam was cheap and devoid of fruit. The cakes arrived later and appeared undercooked. The service was inefficient and slow considering how few customer they had. During the lengthy waits we were regaled with inappropriate music and lots of chatter and giggling from the kitchen. When the savoury plates had been cleared away and the sweets eventually arrived we had to ask for plates to eat from. At the point of paying they attempted to charge more than £26 extra for our drinks but we hadn't even been offered or served the coffees and teas included in the package. Eventually they offered to reduce the over charge by £16 not the full over charge. Not the enjoyable experience we expected or deserved.

Dreadful!!! Do not be swayed by the 5 star reviews, you will be disappointed. This place is as good as it's name! The service was unbelievably slow considering there were more staff than customers. The food, when it did eventually arrive, came in dribs and drabs, was disappointing and incredibly overpriced. Eventually tea and coffee beverages were offered and served (part of a pre-booked afternoon tea) . Walk-in customers were frequently seated, served and prioritised over those who had pre-booked. The toilet facility was disgustingly dirty and the journey to get to it included stepping over a vacuum cleaner abandoned in the doorway. When we eventually gave up waiting for the remaining part of our meal to arrive, I decided to enquire as to how long this would be as we had been waiting a very long time, I was then rudely confronted by the person in charge in the middle of the restaurant who proceeded to discount my concerns and argue with me in front of the other diners, not great customer care at all. To finish the whole experience off, the beverages that had been advertised as part of the afternoon tea were added on to the bill, £25.34 per person. I cannot express how disappointing this experience was, please don't make the same mistake as we did. I would have given 0 if this was possible.

My mother and I booked a table for 2 for lunch and had a wonderful experience...the crayfish, rocket and lemon mayonnaise sandwich on granary was to die for, and my mother's brie and cranberry toastie was one of the best she's ever had...service was bright, polite and swift despite a very high amount of diners, the cafe itself was attractive and comfortable, and the atmosphere was busy and a little noisy, but joyful and relaxed. Would highly recommend, will definitely be back and will be bringing more family and friends...!! Thank you to all at the Chocolate Teapot for a lovely lunch, you are all amazing...!!

After wondering around the town for some time in the heat, we were looking for somewhere for a light lunch. The menu looked interesting, snagged a table and made our decision on what to have unfortunately three of the first choices were not available, which was a disappointing Food made freshly to order, so there is a delay before the food arrives. Bacon sandwich - generous amount of bacon, burrata with tomato, and smoked salmon avocado and poached eggs on toast

I’ve read some of the reviews and it seems that expectations have a lot to do with the comments. I know what to expect and I like it. If you want slick – don’t go. If you want real - then go. If you want a place where people go because they know each other – then go. I’ve had some good conversations about local events and places with the lady and gentleman who run it. Food and drink are fine – it might not suit everyone to see your breakfast cooked in view. Suits me fine.
