I have been frequenting this restaurant with my mother and grandmother for probably about twenty years, which tells you how good it is: we keep coming back! My grandmother is almost 90 and very unsteady on her feet, but the staff are very welcoming and reserve us an accessible table. It means a lot for Grandma to be able to get out, and the warm welcome and kind, thoughtful service here make it a special family spot for us. Mum and Grandma adore the fish pie, whilst I've made my way through the rest of the menu and can safely say it's all delicious! In fact, we once returned from a holiday in Rhodes and had better mezze at the Aldeburgh Market! Not only is the cooking superb, but the portions are generous. The fishmonger attached to the restaurant is also very helpful and sells excellent quality seafood.

We dropped in for lunch on the Monday after Christmas. The open sandwiches we had were very good although the portion of chunky chips was small. The hotel has a lovely view over the beach which we enjoyed as we watched the world go by.

We were a bit put off by the name. Aldeburgh Market conjured up an image of a cafe inside an actual market. But needs must, and they could seat us at short notice on a Saturday evening, so we went there. And it's not like a cafe in a market at all. It's a very smart modern restaurant, small but it also has tables on the pavement outside. Staff are very friendly and helpful, food is really great, what's not to like? We far preferred it to the Lighthouse and Suffolk sur Mer. So much so that we returned a few nights later

The food was reasonable ( my rare steak was medium but that’s a little nit-picking) Very pleasent waitress who sadly hadn’t been trained very well. As she didn’t have a clue what she was serving or what the menu actual was. Asked if we wanted to give a tip on payment of the bill by another member of staff, which we probably would have given a small one ( not the 30% option on the card reader) had it not been asked for. Tips are discretionary and I am happy to tip for a good experience but this wasn’t one. Has the potential and not that bad quality , but does needs improvement.

Third visit to Eliza’s and again the food was stunning . The sharing platter starter , spring rolls and fried balls of rice with a lime and chilli dip was just sublime, really very tasty. The Kho Mak Chicken and the Hot and Spicy Red Beef were delicious as was the lime and tamarind noodles . Generous portions and fresh tasting . The kind of food that makes you want to eat more despite knowing you’ve had enough . Staff very polite and friendly too. Definitely will be returning.

This is now actually called the Alde Cafe. I’ve been twice in the last three days. There are fancier places along the High Street, but you will not get a better meal there than you will find at the Alde. Sean is a brilliant cook who prepares every dish with both flare and a respect for tradition. It was the best fry up I have had in the last twenty years, and a welcomed alternative to the recent tendency of serving them up in thali dishes, with about a tablespoon of beans in one and a cubic centimeter of toast in another. I just had the kedgeree, which was magnificently prepared with haddock from the smokehouses along the Shingle. There are many reasons to come to ever-beautiful Aldeburgh. But I’d rank breakfast or lunch at the Alde Cafe at the very top of my list.

We celebrated a significant birthday with friends with an Afternoon Tea. The tea itself was excellent as was the whole experience from arrival to the lovely waitress and reception. A really great package.

If you want smashed avocado on sourdough with pea shoots and other unnecessary greenery then this cafe is not for you. But if you want the best quality full English, fresh unfussy honestly presented British and local food then you’re in the right place. Always a warm welcome, seriously tasty local food, simply cooked and unpretentiously presented. Today’s special were some seriously big juicy scallops which I had with my full English and they were an inspired combination and very popular. Thanks Sean for another outstanding breakfast. Keeping consistent standards like this is a real labour of love but it shines through in the food. Lovely breakfast and not an avocado in sight. PS a ‘greasy spoon’ this is not!
