Aldeburgh Market in Suffolk Coastal

Four of us had dinner at Aldeburgh Market - what a joy! Fresh fish and seafood beautifully cooked plus great deserts and an interesting wine list. The restaurant area is well designed with some good art on the walls and crisp menu graphics. The service was immaculate , efficient and friendly. Probably the best meal I have had in a very long time!

We loved the food here. My wife had a fish platter that included the best tasting smoked salmon she's ever had and I enjoyed battered oysters with a soy and ginger dipping sauce followed by half a garlic lobster and French fries. Instead of a dessert, I had an amaretto floater coffee. We would definitely recommend and return.

We had a lovely dinner here. Oysters to start. A delicious hake main course with fennel and a saffron sauce. Really tasty pudding with ginger cake and poached pears. All outstanding. Friendly and efficient service. Very strongly recommended.

We were a bit put off by the name. Aldeburgh Market conjured up an image of a cafe inside an actual market. But needs must, and they could seat us at short notice on a Saturday evening, so we went there. And it's not like a cafe in a market at all. It's a very smart modern restaurant, small but it also has tables on the pavement outside. Staff are very friendly and helpful, food is really great, what's not to like? We far preferred it to the Lighthouse and Suffolk sur Mer. So much so that we returned a few nights later

Fish, chips & peas. Fish really fresh, batter light, fish covered my plate! Home made tartar sauce. Friendly staff, offered me a blanket as outside wind became chilly. Lovely Viognier wine.

Nice little restaurant next to its own brilliant fish shop/deli (have the wonderful fish cakes). Good courgette and feta and hot salmon starter and very tasty fish stew. Attentive service. We were the only ones eating by 8.45pm as others ate earlier. The kitchen is open plan and the experience was partly marred by some young man not doing anything in the kitchen except talking really loudly to the chef and staff and quaffing glasses of wine.

So lovely to return for evening meal we had smoked haddock & gnocchi in sauce/turbot pesto potatoes courgette aubergine tomato followed by apple crumble vanilla ice cream food was delicious good quality wine, service friendly & professional very pleasant atmosphere. Hopefully can return again soon

This was a lovely small restaurant. The food was delicious with plenty of choice on the menu and the staff are friendly and attentive.

Met some friends who were eating here and we joined them although we only had 1/2 hour. The staff accommodated us and we managed to eat, pay and get to out appointment in time. Great service, thank you 😊

This was an exceptional experience. It was very busy on a Thursday lunchtime but the lady waitress was very accommodating in holding a table for two until my wife and I could both get to the restaurant. We both chose a medium glass of Albarino which was served nicely chilled but not too cold We both had a starter, 3 oysters for me which were deliciously plump and served along with finely diced in red wine vinegar. I also had some sourdough bread with butter. At last I found a restaurant which served the butter at room temperature rather than straight out of the fridge! Hurrah! My wife chose pan fried king prawns in olive oil and chilli which she rated excellent. We both chose fish soup for main course which had a rich sauce and served with croutons, rouille and cheese. They had run out of mussels but there was a generous portion of fish in the soup. First class. Although rather full we were tempted by the pear, apple and plum crumble served with a creamy custard and a scoop of ice cream. Indulgent! A very reasonable bill less than £100. Fortunately the car was parked only 2 minutes away and I have to confess I nodded off on the was back to our holiday cottage. Would I go again and recommend this restaurant? Most definitely.

Except little restaurant. Been to Aldeburgh twice and both time ate here for lunch. Happened to find a perfect table outside in the sunshine. Weather gloriously sunny on both occasions. This time had a fish platter with a side of smoked salmon pate and some chips. Beautiful. Just right on a sunny day and washed down with a nice pale rosé. Lovely espresso to finish.

An otherwise very good restaurant but this time spoilt by my daring to order South Indian fish curry. Disaster! No curry leaf, no rye (black mustard seed), no tamarind. Was this fish cooked in a pasta sauce with Madras curry powder added? Please take it off the menu.

Everything was amazing, they were really attentive, everything came quickly, they were very welcoming and food/alcohol was to DIE for. The coconut daiquiri was amazing

We managed to get a table for two in here. Nice cosy atmosphere, and good food.

Plus points. Reasonably comfortable but a bit chilly. Cockles and bread were very good as was the wine a nice French Picpoul. Not so good. We looked forward to the Fish Curry. It was at best below average. Fish. Well it was there in small chunks. In an overpowering thick sauce. We for quite awhile suffered. No food poisoning just it left an impression. You really must as well stop just staring out the window. Find something to do rather than flirt with each other. Its awful. Now you can write what you like as a response. We were polite left without moaning and gave a tip. We actually reflected and thought 'no, its not good enough'.

Generous portions, friendly efficient service. Nothing for non-pescetarians!

Had dinner here. Excellent starter on specials board of King Prawn wrap and sesame Prawn toast. Best Prawn toast, EVER. Wife's Crab linguine was superb. My fish curry was very good too, but could have done with a bit more rice!! Service was lovely. Small restaurant, so make sure you book

Excellent quality food at this small eatery in Aldeburgh. We booked online 24 hours ahead which was all good. Main courses of fish curry and turbot on a lemon and cavoloe Nero risotto were both superb. The starters excellent too and showed both a high level of skill and a great touch for quality and flavour. Dessert menu looked good but we couldn't manage them. The food is the star and wonderful. It's a small dining room so make sure you book and get to eat here!

Having ordered a hummus starter which was pretty insipid, we should have known better but the main courses were already threatening their appearance. The Indian fish curry was overloaded with sticky tamarind sauce and possessed no other redeeming flavours. The crap crouton dish was utterly appalling, containing very little crap but dollops of creamy beige sauce, making it utterly tasteless and extremely disappointing. In addition, the waiter was either untrained in wines or the selection was of a poor quality.

My first visit here. Inviting and friendly. Although it is not a large space it is bright, airy with a welcoming ambiance. We did not feel rushed at all. There is a good selection on the menu (Seafood). Everything we had was very fresh and tasty. Definitely worth a visit.

This restaurant is a little gem of a place to eat. We were greeted warmly by front of house. The food was piping hot and absolutely delicious. The desserts were spectacular.

Since moving back to the Suffolk coast we've been working our way round the restaurants in Aldeburgh and left this one til last. One gets lots of national press coverage, and two have been here for ages so are well known. Aldeburgh Market is smaller, quieter and in many ways best of the bunch. Great food, good wine and friendly service made the visit a pleasure. This place is now near the top of my list!

We enjoyed the food at this restaurant twice during our 10 day stay in Aldeburgh. As other reviews mention, it's good, honest food and well priced. The first time was a slightly rushed affair on our part as we had tickets for the cinema. Food and drinks were delivered promptly so we had no need to rush eating. Half lobster and Indian fish curry - absolutely delicious and good sized lobster. So positive was the experience and wonderful the food, we returned for a more relaxed, lengthy meal with 3 courses - rarely do we have 3 courses. Again, service, delivery and especially the food was excellent. Seabass (husband was lucky enough to have the last one, we were warned as the menu came out and he immediately asked to put his name on it) and lobster again for me, with oysters (well shucked, no shards of shell) and pan fried shrimp as starters. I'm a Suffolk girl who moved away and considering moving back. Places like this make this choice even more enticing, we'd eat here every night if we could.

Great choice of seafood and fish in this small but perfectly formed cafe/restaurant. The dressed crab was fabulous. Service was very friendly and welcoming and helpful in terms of food intolerance.

Managed to squeeze us in, my husband had the fish curry and commented that it was the best he had eaten in a while. Good selection of drinks. A number of regular diners which suggests they keep coming back. Home made tartar sauce with the fish and chips, the chips were fluffy and tasty.

Lovely little restaurant on the high street in Aldeburgh. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal here (best in Aldeburgh so far!) and the staff were friendly and attentive. Especially enjoyed the fish soup and Korean prawn special, with good choice of wine to accompany.

Wow I had the summer salad for lunch and it was amazing, absolutely gorgeous. We tried to come back for an evening meal but sadly they were full both days, so book early if you want to come here. However, not to be beaten, we got a takeaway from here instead, I had the fish curry, that was also really lovely. Without doubt this is a fantastic restaurant.

we expected great things of this place however we were very disappointed, the staff without exception were lovely however , the kitchen clearly could not cope with the amount of people dining . we waited 50 minutes between our starters and main course .

Fish and chips lunch, sat outside on a glorious sunny afternoon. A bit cramped for space on the pavement, but the fish and chips was top rated. A substantial piece of fish, with chunky chips. Adnams beer batter. Fish was nicely cooked and the chips were crisp and fluffy inside. Other diners seemed to be enjoying their lunches too, having other options on the menu. We were beaten by the portion sizes, so our retriever was very happy with his ‘doggy box’ of remains.

Dined here because it had the best reviews for Fish & chips in Aldeburgh , unfortunately very underwhelming fish was ok chips were mmmm just not great and the mushy peas were just horrible really strange taste of which we’ve never tasted before in mushy peas , went to the anchor in walberswick next day and had fish & chips there and they were outstanding.

We just randomly happened upon the place for lunch, and it was the best food we had all weekend. One of our party is notoriously hard to please(trained chef), and they cleaned the plate, unheard of! I had the pan fried king prawns with garlic, lemon and chili, and I loved it, outstanding. Service was quick and attentive, but I think the full kudos has to go the food, all credit to the chef.

First time here yesterday 21/6/23 but definitely not the last. Fabulous food, great service from everyone and a good ambience. My husband had the gravadlax, I had the potted shrimp and we shared a bowl of cockles. The mains, fish pie and the pasta with prawns and scallops both simply delicious. We both had a dessert, I had the warm lemon drizzle cake with lemon curd, hubby the bread and butter pudding, again both delicious 😋. The bill of £150 wasn't too bad considering we had 3 bottles of wine, but still excellent value for money. To all the staff at Aldeburgh Market thank you for all your hard work (especially the chef) we will definitely be seeing you again.

We dined here for dinner. The bistro is small but very inviting and cosy. We shared a gradvalax starter which was a generous serving, the correct temperature with not too much dill and very flavourful. The waitress served us the wrong starter to begin with but it was rectified quickly and we were given the garlic bread mistaken starter for free which was the nicest garlic bread we'd ever tasted. The sea trout and spinach risotto was mixed in its delivery as the risotto was watery and could have been more creamy but the sea trout was very fresh and superb. The fish pie was very hot and seemed to only have salmon or trout and a white fish. It could benefit from having a few prawns in it for variation and there was a lot of potato but it was tasty with nicely cooked seasonal vegetables as an accompliment. There is a good wine list. The double espresso was good also with complimentary chocolate mints with the bill. The staff were friendly and welcoming. There is a deli attached to the bistro too.

I used the Aldeburgh Market for the catering for my 40th Birthday party and it was superb! Great communication, flexibility and service on the night. The seafood platters were delicious, and all the hot dishes were great, even including the vegan one :)
