My husband and I along with 2 friends visited The Friston Chequers for Sunday lunch on 23 June. The young man serving recommended the roast, and all 4 of us were in agreement that it was one of the best Sunday roasts that we have enjoyed for a long time. The staff were attentive and eager to please. A pleasant atmosphere helped to make our visit memorable. We shall return again soon and can highly recommend a visit to this pleasant pub. We'd seen good reviews, so thought we'd pop in on an early Thursday lunch. We hadn't booked, didn't think we would need to! Thankfully they had set aside a few walk ins and we got there early doors. Starters were as you expect, really well done homemade food. Main was dressed crab with fries and salad. Sounds simple, but so so good. Will recommend to anyone visiting the area.

Quite amazing lunch. Worthy of top class restaurant. Pan roasted duck breast, with smoked duck potato, butternut purée ++. Quite extraordinary meal for only £16.25. Excellent atmosphere, service and Adnams Southwold bitter.

I enjoyed the chicken and chorizo terrine for my starter as a special and the roast chicken was amazing. I would definitely go there again

An amazing place to eat l. Great staff both helpful and knowledgeable with great sense of humour😂 six of us two with wheelchairs and gluten allergie and a veggie. All were catered for amazingly well. Couldn't have had a better end to our holiday. All went home full.and very happy. Thank you so very much from.all.of us🤩

Really nice pub/restaurant. Nicely spaced tables & good acoustics for a conversation. I noted it still maintained a pub feel, so you could just go for a drink if you wanted. Nice staff & good service. Definitely going again.

Had a lovely afternoon here handle with care were great as usual the only thing that wasn’t so good was the service as bar staff not serving people in turn landlords daughter running around demanding her parents attention I had to wait for 45 minutes for cod and chips which weren’t very nice and the landlady seemed to be very stressed and gave me a horrible stare when I laughing grabbed salt and vinegar say I was keeping them for my food

Attended a funeral wake , the food was outstanding and the service brilliant! The owners had gone to the trouble of decorating the tables and front door appropriately, much of the food was homemade tartlets and pies including some vegetarian options and the fillings were overflowing there were no short measures , same was true of the sandwiches just really impressed this team deserve all the success , they are at the top of their game . Just had Sunday lunch here with wife and amazing friends, the Sunday dinner was just about the best we have had in a pub, cheese and biscuits to finish off, food and service 10/10, we will definitely be back.

Great hosts, good food and ale. Believe the waitress was new just by the way she acted etc. Perfectly fine though! My only complaint is that the tables were oddly sticky. Don't know if it's the cleaning products that they used or if it hadn't been cleaned.

Pleasant landlord Jim and his wife who have only had the pub for a few months but are building up the business with live music on Saturdays and a fine menu with a good chef. Good Luck to them

Had lunch today amazing I had the duck hubby had smoked haddock we definitely be back

We had pre-booked (9 of us) to sit in the courtyard for lunch, knowing it was going to be a hot day, the cushions on the furniture were soaked from being left out during the previous day showers and the tables were dirty, as we went to order we were told all the pies were off, this being 1pm! only leaving meals consisting of chips! Poor menu selection, gave 3* as staff were friendly tho!

What a lovely, friendly, welcoming pub 👌 Great landlords, easy parking, beer garden and seating area out the back too, little park opposite for the kids to play, would 100% recommend a visit 😊

Very friendly atmosphere, as yet haven't been here for a meal.

We had a very successful family gathering at the Old Chequers on 12th March this year. Landlady Carol couldn't have done more to accommodate us. She was brilliant! The whole event, the organisation of the lunch etc was perfect. The meal we had, 3 courses, a la carte and pre ordered, was very high standard and delicious. Thank you all at the pub for making our day so special.

Now, this is a really great pub. But it's not just a pub, it's a lovely, warm, inviting place serving really great food with a menu of a wide choice. On our lunch visit it was very well cooked and presented and provided promptly. The owners were perfect hosts and the service was great. You definitely should give it a try and if you need somewhere to eat prior to visiting Snape, this is the place.

My friend and I went for a pre-christmas lunch, the hosts were really very accommodating and food was fantastic, so much to choose from as well, also my friend has some intolerances and they were very helpful nothing was too much trouble it was an absolute pleasure, lovely atmosphere log burner, comfy chairs all the things that you would imagine to be fabulous will be going again

Just had a fabulous Sunday roast dinner and a good bottle of wine at The Old Chequers, staff friendly and helpful, can't wait to go back.

Fantastic Sunday Lunch. Prawn Cocktail to start, traditional Roast Beef with Yorkshires, Veg and Roast potatoes and a sticky toffee pudding to close. Great quality, fair pricing and great welcome from the staff. Highly recommend!!!

We are staying in holiday cottage in the village. Short walk to this lovely pub/restaurant. Great food and service. Best to book.

I've been to the chequers twice and both occasions have had fabulous service. The most recent occasion was a last minute call when we were down the road for some lunch. The staff were more than happy to accommodate myself and my partner plus our dog! The food was served quickly and was excellent and both my fish dish and my partners crab dish, were so fresh. We will make it a regular occurance to visit when we go to Aldeburgh in the future. Many thanks for your great service.

Stayed in the village for a 2 week break and booked lunch 3 times during our stay. The food was excellent, the owners and staff were friendly and welcoming and even 'Lucy' the dog was at the door waiting to see who arrived. The whole dining experience was first class.

Went for lunch today with relatives from Lincoln on the off chance and had a very warm welcome and they accommodated us with a table for 5 adults with no problem, found it to be everything we would expect in a dog loving pub/restaurant, the tables are well spaced and not crowded together to maximize profits as a lot of establishments do. The staff were very welcoming and the food was very good , they gave the dogs a nice bowl of fresh water along with some treats, I live just south of Norwich and would certainly take the time out to visit again. Well worth a visit!

The food, hospitality, was absolutely top class. The owners were the friendliest people that you'd ever meet, and the same can be said of the regulars....highly recommended.

Had a lovely Sunday lunch at the Old Chequers. Food was excellent. Andy & Carol make you feel very welcome. Also dog friendly. We always make sure we pay a visit when we are up at Snape

The food was a little disappointing here I won't lie, pretty bland. The soup I had didn't really taste of much. We ordered cheesy chips but just got chips as they had no cheese for the chips.... But they still had cheese for a burger.. the vegi meal I was told wasn't great either. Pub itself clean and tidy with friendly staff but won't come back for food.

Comfortable, spacious place offering unfussy, well-prepared food that tastes good and offers real value. Wine list sensibly priced, too.

Walked on footpaths and tracks through fields from Gromford. Had a lovely lunch sat in the very nice outside seating area at the rear of the pub. Landlord and staff were very welcoming. Dog friendly too. Food was delicious and freshly cooked.

Very mediocre Christmas lunch today perhaps it was because there were a lot of us, my husband's fish was only just warm and we all had a long wait between courses. Shame as it is a lovely Pub. Perhaps we were unlucky.
