Great food, a nice location and excellent service. Limited choice of menu but sufficient to satisfy a variety of tastes. Amy was particularly professional and friendly.

Four of us had afternoon tea hear on 21/7. It was pre-booked. We were asked where we would like to sit and decided to sit in the lounge area which had settees and a large coffee table The actual afternoon tea was really good and excellent value for money. Having declined tea/coffee when we arrived we did have to go in search of it after the sandwiches etc arrived. However once we fund someone we were quickly served, so no real problem. This is a nice place and given another time would like to explore the restaurant for dinner and possible stay there. It was a good afternoon tea and would recommend.

We came here for afternoon tea as a family of 8. We booked in advance and was expecting to be sat in the dining area but we were sat in a small seating area to the side of reception on sofas. It was ok but the table was a bit small for all of the afternoon tea and the chairs did not reach the table. This made it difficult for my elderly grandparents and we had to bring the food and drinks to them and keep getting up and down to get whatever food/drink we wanted. The food was ok, just average really, not as nice as other afternoon teas I have had before.

We were planning to eat in Thorpeness or Aldeburgh. Places and villages were looking busy with no where to park. We drove down the lane to Thorpeness Hotel and golf club, where we parked. The gentleman at the bar was polite, helpful and made us feel welcome. Tables were moved so we had lots of room. The meals we had were lovely : Fish pie, had loads of different types of fish and the mash that came with it was lovely, the green beans were plentiful and fresh. The chicken, mushroom pie with Tarragon again was lovely, full of chicken. The lamb burger was excellent value and thoroughly enjoyed. Also a breakfast was enjoyed, as they served this up to 2.30pm. We were pleasantly surprised with this great location, great food and great prices. We will definitely return. Thanks

It was Easter and the Dolphin was packed. For less we ate instead in the calm and ease of the Restaurant at Thorpeness Hotel and Golf. The golf course and car park were packed but amid four or five family parties there was plenty of tables available in the restaurtant. The linen was dazzling. Fresh iced water was put on the table immediately. And with a splendid veiw over the course we had a three course meal for £18.

Comfortable rooms if quite dear. Food in evening very good from small menu. Breakfast ok but spoiled by vinegary poached eggs. Avoided a second evening meal as the menu was small and we felt we had had what we fancied already. Went for Thai in Aldeburgh which we can recommend. See separate review.

On passing the top of the drive we noticed the New Bar Menu sign so thought we'd give it a try. What a major disappointment. We ordered the fish plater for two, which included mackeral, smoked salmon, tempura battered squid, potted shrimps, anchovies and a salad, when it arrived there was no salmon and bread was not included. We asked the waiter where the salmon was and for some bread but all they could offer was the Artisan bread with oil and vinegar at an additional cost of 3.95, we agreed to pay for this and waited ...... And waited ....... And waited ......... Eventualy I went to the bar to enquire where the bread was and the waiter said he would bring it to the table and handed me a plate of smoked salmon. We waited and waited and waited, I chased again and after about half-an-hour the bread arrived just in time for the potted shrimps. It feels like a private golf club, not welcoming to visitors, the staff were cold. The waiter chased me into reception to make sure we were not going to disappear without paying for the extra bread. Altogether a very disappointing experience. Not one to recommend to the guests staying in our holiday cottage. The Management need to visit The White Lion and The Brudenall in Aldeburgh to see how a fish platter should be served.

We discovered the Hotel/Golf club at the end of a private road and wandered into their immaculately kept gardens. We decided on their Afternoon Tea and although the service was not the quickest we were pleasantly surprised with the quality and quantity of the food. The waitress brought it out to us in the garden and the finger sandwiches (some ham and some cheese) were delicious as was the generous portions of iced sponge cake, scones, butter, jam and clotted cream. We will definitely be visiting this Hotel again

Ten of us booked a table whilst staying at the nearby 'House in the Clouds'.Things started quite well, the slightly old fashioned ambience one might associate with a golf club, and polite attentive staff. The menu was short, no bad thing, and reasonably interesting. Some of us ordered the fillet steak. We were asked how we would like it cooked. I asked for blue to rare, others asked for rare and medium rare. We were then informed that chef was only allowed to serve steak medium or well done. This prompted the question 'why did you bother to ask us how we wanted it?'Two of us dug in and insisted that we wanted our steak cooked to our liking and not cremated, at that point we were told we would have to sign a form relieving the restaurant of all responsibility. I never saw any form, but when my steak arrived it was well done, better by a fraction than those of my colleagues whose pieces of meat were totally over-cooked. I sent mine back and eventually received what I had asked for.I have eaten in thousands of restaurants and never known such farcical madness. To make matters worse the portions were niggardly. My rarebit starter with balsamic pickled onions was pretty miniscule. A three inch square of cheese on toast with five onions, pleasant, but hardly generous for the money. Other dishes seemed similarly lacking in their generosity. At the end my colleague told the waitress that the things had not been good and asked her to relay that to the manager. No response was received. There is no shortage of good places to eat in the vicinity, this one is definitely best avoided on the basis of our experience

Visited as part of a coach party having pre-ordered from the menu. Food was excellent, hot, quickly served by efficient, courteous staff. Crockery and cutlery were gleaming and tables were covered by spotless starched white cloths with matching napkins. A very pleasant dining experience

Thought we would do New Years Eve here after visiting a couple of times and friends wanted an easy night. How wrong we were, the food was awful, the was a mix up on our table, we were first out so wasn't a great start. I had pre booked risotto but they had messed it up and had no spares (farce) so I had to have beef wellington, which was grey and not pink as it should be. Lucky I eat meat occasionally I guess, 3 others on our table sent food back for being tough and hard risotto. I understand its difficult to get 100 plates of food out in such a quick period, however the manager didn't really seem to care and it seemed a chore our food wasn't right, he should of just fixed it at the time and I wouldn't be writing this now, a free drink wouldn't have gone a miss. Only reason it got 2 stars was due to the very good fireworks, perhaps that is where the £85 we each paid went ! Lastly perhaps check the clock there to as everyone looked at theirs phones and it had ben midnight for 2minutes before it was counted down in the venue

The standard of food at the weekend must be different from weekdays, judging by some previous comments. We had Sunday lunch here approx year ago and again recently and the standard was very average. This visit there was a good selection of fresh vegetables with the roast but then we tried to eat it! We like our veg 'al dente' but the broccoli was hard and the cauliflower was even harder and inedible. I told the waiter when he cleared the plates but don't know if it was passed on. The pork crackling appeared crunchy but became leathery and stuck itself round our teeth! The choice of puddings was uninspiring so we declined. We happened to have a half price voucher and felt that this was all the meal was worth. Sorry, won't be rushing back for Sunday lunch.
