It’s a nice enough venue, it used to be my local. However the food experience, on this occasion was very poor. Bread and oil, ok- but odd tasting oil. Surely not Olive oil?? But….. wow, but….. the fishfinger sandwich. Just awful. So, the bread was so cold, if it wasn’t recently frozen, then why, why do you serve bread at that refrigerated temperature. The filling. One piece of the most horrific, Tesco value battered fish- not even fish fingers. Cut in two, and stuffed inside. One of my half’s of sandwich wasn’t even half covered in fish. See photo. The fish, omg, saturated in fat, and the batter basically hollow, save for a tiny bit of grey fish. See photo. When I complained that I was not willing to pay £8 for it- the server said. “Yeah we get that all the time”. (!!!!!!!). And “yeah there’s not much fish in them” (!!!!!!!) Asked what I wanted to do about it, my options were a refund, or for the chef to cook a second portion of fish to actually fill the sandwich. It arrived, again sopping in grease, and basically hollow and ominously grey inside… again see pics. Onion rings on the side - sopping in grease, I mean, turn the fryers up… Just not good enough- just unacceptable for a village pub, have pride, buy better ingredients, and do better.

Always good food, great options too, some of the less common items like BBQ chicken are delicious. Homemade coleslaw is a treat as well. All the staples are exactly how you'd want them, always hot, always well cooked. Staff really make the place standout though, always friendly, you never have to wait more than 5 seconds to be served, the guys are friendly and welcoming, always accurate with how long the meal will take to cook which is helpful too. We've tried many fish and chip shops around Southend and this one is clear by a country mile!

I haven't been to Dunwich for about 15 years. I remember there used to be a great tea room back then that my mother recommended! This must have long since gone! We had walked cross country from Southwold forgetting what a long walk it is We discovered dingle tea rooms at the end of the walk in a rural setting. It's a lovely setting with extensive barns and tables. Having frequented similar establishments in other parts of the country I thought we were in for a treat Nothing was wrong with the food it was just a little uninspiring. Very plain cakes and prawn sandwiches made from those tiny prawns you buy trozen. All nicely served by attentive waiting staff it just lacked that lush factor that you sometimes find in these sort of places. Maybe my expectations were too high.....

We booked in for brunch which was lovely. My wife had mushroom Benedict and I had avocado and poached eggs on ciabatta, whilst the kids went for english breakfasts and waffles. All the food was great, and service exceptional. They also accommodated our dog who was provided with a nice soft bed and her choice off the doggy menu. We then returned that evening for tapas. We had a wonderful seafood platter plus various dishes of which the deep fried crispy chilli chicken was a particular favourite. All in all a lovely place, food and service, and we shall definitely be returning next time we in the area.

Every weekend I travel around the UK sightseeing and eating out and not once have I ever felt i needed to write a negative review. until today. This cafe has been the worst all rounder experience. Overpriced Bad quality food - Salty and Bitter coffee. Rude owner - attitude and even swearing. Extremely overpriced, £9 for “small” 2 bits of bacon, 2 small over cooked eggs and a piece of lukewarm toast and £11.50 for the “large” breakfast. The food was very salty and the coffee was bitter to taste. When questioned about the lack of food of the price, the owner was extremely rude and nasty, told us tuff, so had no choice to eat it and over heard him saying " Fk them", zero customer service, it was like he took it as personal attack that we wasn’t happy to the point I felt that I had to leave my phone on record while we ate due to his attitude. Even when we left the cafe, he still harassed us. Avoid this cafe.
