Lovely pub, great outdoor seating!

Date of visit: 09.05.2025 The large number of customers served and the difficulty of finding a free seat after 10 o'clock speak for themselves. Our two-hour stay (we were waiting for a car window to be replaced) allowed us to observe the popularity of this place, especially among the local workers. The most popular order is the English breakfast and French fries. From our observation, I can say that the cakes on the display are freshly added piece by piece. Very efficient and polite customer service. Photos of empty cafe are taken just before closing during our second stay(~14:50).

Come for friends birthday/leaving drinks. Wonderful Friday afternoon. We ordered through the app, service was quick. Shared lots of small plates between us which were great. Ended up staying for karaoke which was really fun!

What a find! Best Goats cheese salad, lots of cheese and Avocado-absolutely delicious beautifully presented. My husband had fried Halloumi & Siracha Sourdough -delicious. Great coffee and Lemon Verbena Tea outside in Sunshine -bliss !

Good pub, decent food, nice drinks and great staff

Lovely place, wonderful service - but the food was exemplary. I had the fish and chips, and it was possibly the best I've ever had. I asked if they added heroin to the food (it was THAT good) but I'm not sure they got the joke. I'll definitely be going back. Not for the heroin, though.

Absolutely brilliant! We hired The Brentwood Kitchen for our daughter’s 18th Birthday party and hired the DJ they recommended. Venue was great and DJ Steve excellent! We took along some balloons but that was all. Decoration is so optional and really you don’t anything… Just turn up with a happy face and your dancing shoes! Food was really delicious and was beautifully presented. Lots of compliments from guests. Bar & Kitchen staff were very lovely and really friendly. Communication was also excellent, very friendly, relaxed, helpful and swift responses to any queries (not that we really had many). Would definitely recommend! Thank you so much for a great night.

I've lived in Colchester most my life, so I'm annoyed that I just recently found this absolute gem! So in the last month we have visited 4 times as I don't think I'd get better elsewhere! Lovely menu with plenty of different options and I'm making my way through the lovely teas. The food we have received has been just perfect and delicious. Pretty outside seating and also lovely inside. And the absolute kicker is the value, so much good quality food for a very reasonable price. We won't go anywhere else now 🤣 and also the lovely staff who are so welcoming and friendly. Lovely young girl always asks what we are up to for the rest of the day and she genuinely seems interested, absolutely wonderful 😊 thanks for making our weekends just perfect!

Had an overnight stay in one of the shepherds hut and expectations were well surpassed! The huts are immaculately clean and well thought out. They are beautifully presented with high end finishes in secluded locations. The Japanese hot tubs were fabulous and easy to use with clear instructions. A word of advice, it builds up heat very quickly and you really don’t need to put that extra log on! The pub was also fabulous with amazing food, we all enjoyed our choices. We had the overnight stay with dinner, bed and breakfasts. Amazing value and will be back!
