Poor. Used to be a lovely Pub to have a Roast Dinner in, especially on the Sundays the Classic Cars turned up! Today's Roast Beef was frankly nothing of the sort, tough, stringy and tasteless - I suspect it wasn't the days Roast at all, but some pre-packaged 'Roast Beef' slices. Apart from that, it's a nice, friendly, local Pub.

Great food at a reasonable price. Loved the Halloumi chips, Goats Cheese Terrine with roast vegetables and the Filo parcel of cream cheese and hand cut chips with skins on . Also enjoyed the Lemon cheese cake presented as in a Michelin star restaurant. The individual Apple pie with sultanas and custard was large and tasty. Recommend the Guest Ale. Partner had a Wine Spritzer. Total. Bill £40 was good value. 15 February 2022 Visited again. I had a fantastic Beef Burger. Delicious burger thick quality tasty meat made on site . Great potato wedges with skin on. As it was Tuesday burger was half price. It is great value even at full price. My friend had Lamb Kofta Kebab, Tzatziki, Pitta & Salad. This was a small plate - this is more than enough for a full meal at just £6.95 and absolutely delicious. 29th March Back for a light meal. We loved the Halloumi chips with Salsa as a snack - salsa the best I have eaten. small plates of yummy Goats cheese with rocket and molasses and I had Mac and lobster cheese and homemade mini loaf . Finished if we each had really freshing kiwi, mango Eton Mess with passion fruit coulis and cream. 8th October 2024 The kitchen opens at 5pm so we popped in for a quick early meal. It was half price burgers on Monday and Tuesday We both chose a Lamb and Tzatziki burger. Delicious large homemade and great soft bun and generous skin on chips. I upgraded to Halloumi chips. Finished off with a lemon pannacotta tart with winter berry compote and excellent coffee. This is such a lovely community pub. I was amazed to find that whilst the publican family take a break locals including the Vicar are standing in as bar persons and a mobile street food and on some nights a mobile pizza van will be serving food.

Met my family at the Goat as anniversary of our Dads passing, my Dad was from Hertford Heath, so we know the pub well. Landlady was rude, said she was on her own as no staff, wonder why. Asked for a packet of crisps to be given a carrier bag full of small not to be sold separately crisps, and other snacks, told to choose from bag. Garden scruffy, flowers in hanging baskets dead. You get the impression she’s doing you a favour serving you a pint of Guinness.

A charming village pub sited next to the green. Inside is a bit quirky but all the better for it. We went with a group of 16 for a mid-week lunch. The staff were very accommodating, the service was prompt, and the food was very good, with good sized portions at reasonable prices. In particular, the half roast chicken was massive but still moist and tender, and also the local ice-cream is very good. There were lots of appreciative comments. We will be going back.

first time we’ve been back for years, we got married at the church opposite so thought it would be nice to drop in for old times sake. as we got to the bar the barmaid said “are you here for lunch have you booked ?” we said we’d like a light lunch but hadn’t booked and she was so rude and said “no chance there’s a 40 minute wait” in such a rude way, so we walked out. would have been nicer for her to say “i’m so sorry we’re really busy at the moment but you’re welcome to have a drink and make yourselves comfortable, i’ll be as quick as possible. safe to say we will not be returning!

Have eaten here before, so hoping to have a nice celebratory lunch for a family members birthday we was bitterly disappointed. Chicken burger dry/overcooked, coleslaw with what seemed to be grained mustard was bitter & awful. Lack of customer service, support just told menus, cutlery & condiments on the shelf, help yourself, no re checking if meals were ok? More drinks etc? Garden unkempt grass & tatty old seating with rubbish disposed in the corner. Very sad let down to what was meant to be a special day.

This is a great meeting place as a pub, however, the food really lets it down. We ate here on a January lunchtime when it was not at all busy. One friend’s soup arrived stone cold and had to be taken back to the kitchen. Garlic creamy mushrooms tasted entirely of vinegar and little else. Calamari were chewy, no one was happy with their food choice. Luckily it was not expensive but even so… We won’t be eating here again.

A quaint little pub. I’ve been a couple of times now, but sadly won’t return. The staff are very lovely and friendly, so no issues there. Service was slow, however. But the food is really average. The roasts are pretty bad. I’ve had both the chicken and beef roasts now. Vegetables are cooked so hard, they are like plantains. Potatoes were rock hard. Beef was tough. The chicken roast was rolled up, formed chicken with Paxo like stuffing inside. Where are the slices of chicken or half a chicken? Dessert was brioche with custards. The brioche was doughy and stodgy. The custard surely must have been that powdered Bird’s custard. Really poor food in my mind. A shame, as it’s a lovely little pub in a lovely location. But seriously, if you can’t do a roast properly in a pub, then don’t bother. I can’t possibly return to eat there. 3/5.

Most pubs at least offer peas. Quite a small sized coffee as well. Good parking as pub has a small car park plus additional parking around the village green. Great idea to have a book borrow/swap. 3 choices of bitter on tap which is more than some pubs these days. You're often lucky if you get offered one. Lovely pub with great staff. We went for a Sunday roast. We both went for the beef which came with a side dish of cauliflower cheese. A starter of garlic mushrooms. A Processco and a cider. £40 very reasonable. The starter was yummy. Very tasty indeed. The roast was disappointing. Not awful, but not great. The gravy was already over the meat (we like to add our own) it was a jelly like consistency (not home made). There were no greens on the plate (you didn’t get to choose the vegetables) so the plate looked a little dull and all beige. The cauliflower cheese had no sauce. It was boiled cauliflower with cheese mixed in. The cheese was bland and more like mozzarella and there was no white sauce, at the bottom of the dish it was all watery, such a shame. It looked good but it was just boiled cauliflower and not a cauliflower cheese. We will definitely be coming to the pub again but not for a Sunday roast.

We came for a meal on Saturday 30th July, when we arrived at 7pm we were not advised the kitchin closed at 8.15pm, we were taken to our table placed our orders, starters were very good, bit dissapointed by the main courses, I ordered ham egg and chips, chips were over cooked, bits of the ham were chewy couldnt eat it. My partner ordered the toad in the hole, when it came out, it looked like it had been left in the oven as it was very well done, close to burnt, in my opinion it should not have been served, we put it down to us being the last table to eat before the kitchin closed, not really the right approach to rush through the service. In our opinion it just felt like the main meals had been rushed to enable the chef to close the kitchin. We wont be coming back. Sorry

A nice little village pub with a mixed old world/modern contemporary decor vibe and a friendly atmosphere. The food was ok, I wouldn't say fabulous, and I did personally feel the menu was slightly limited, but maybe that was me on the day. having settled on some shared starters (not a lot for vegetarians on the whole menu really) we ordered those and a main each. Three of these meals came with what they described as "chips". They were not. I get that this is not the end of the world, but if I want wedges, which I never do because I cannot abide them (or skin on chips) I would order them. These were straight out of the quarter of an unpeeled potato whack 'em in the oven school of cookery. I get that this is my gripe and many would not be phased (my table mates were not, but agreed they were NOT chips) but say what you are selling please. I did politely mention it to the waitress that "sorry, but these aren't actually chips" and was told "yes they are" pregnant pause........ Me "sorry but they are actually wedges"............... "no, they are our chips" ................ Apparently I stand corrected. On the whole a decent experience, and I would recommend, but skin on spud haters beware! :)

It’s mean to be A family pub which should have food for all parties of the family. Kids, adults and elderly. I don't think they like people not English or local. Nephew is lactose intolerable but only two items on menu and no dessert for them. No diet or sugar free drinks just water and this is a pub whose main aspect is to provide drinks for customers. They Placed us on a table with no room for people to squeeze past into the kitchen and kept kicking the high chair with the child in place. Instead of giving us a better suited table which they did have. No health options for people which is shocking. They do a chicken salad for kids but not an adult portion. Food was nice as least but service was terrible. Didn’t know anything about the menu. Was not apologetic after she dropped the milk for another customer and it splashed me and my son. No Sunday roast on the menu we were given but other customers seemed to have been able to order it. Maybe it’s because they don’t like people not British going into their pub as we surely didn’t get the same service as the English customers there.

Whenever we go, this place is always busy no matter what day or time. This is simply because of the quality of the service and products. today, we had a sandwich. Mine, chicken salad with onion marmalade was simply delicious (who would think of marmalade in a chicken salad sandwich)? The other sandwich was prawn salad which I'm told was also delicious. Both sandwiches were at least an inch thick and no, that was not mostly salad, but chicken and prawn. My cappuccino was simply lovely. Add to this the staff are always friendly and accommodating, what else can anyone want?

Our weekend treat! The wife and I come here at least once every weekend. Constantly good food and the friendliest staff. Even when they are busy they have time for a smile for the customer. They do the best cup of tea for sure. Our preference is a nice strong builders tea, they get it spot on every time. We always look forward to our next visit.
