We had a lovely family lunch on August Bank Holiday Monday. The lady serving on this day couldn't have been more friendly or accommodating. We had a main meal and dessert. Each course arrived well presented and cooked beautifully. A very good choice of mains with Specials on a board. There is a garden out the back and a separate childrens play area. We found it value for money and would happily return.

Driven past it loads of times, but never knew it was there. It's set back slightly from the road and accessed by a small road leading to its car park and a small housing close. Really nicely prepared food. We have called there several times now after visiting the nearby Cranham Caravans storage yard. There is a car park to the rear and entrance to the rear garden area. There is a small children's play area and an area of outdoor seating, some of which is covered. We went inside for lunch. There was a really good food selection and a specials board in addition to the main menu. I had liver and bacon which came with onion gravy, mash, and a selection of vegetables. My partner had pan fried salmon with lime and coriander rice and a seared oak choi. Both meals were delicious and well presented. We both also had sherry trifle for dessert. We have also eaten their Sunday roasts. 😋 A great find and a pub we'll certainly visit again. It is close by to Cranham Caravans where our caravan is currently stored, so it is very convenient if we have returned from a trip away.

Went via the gradings from this site, and wasn't disappointed. Fabulous experience from first point of contact, though to service, and then food. Meals all freshly cooked, and impeccable; and huge! Lady staff member so warming and welcoming, and attentive; when I tipped, she was so humble. Dining area not huge, so make sure you book, but very pleasant, and very clean. Obviously, in the warmer months, there is plenty of seating outside. A real little gem, undiscovered. Definitely coming back for a 2nd visit.

My wife and I. Went to the pub for evening drinks, just to escape the house for an hour. The pub decor is lovely and the staff welcome was really nice. My go to on a warm day is Fosters, the pub had no Fosters on at the time of this visit. The draft ale (Ghost ship and Tribute) had a strong vinegar aftertaste, as though the pipes were not quite clean or flushed through when cleaned previously. I would warn future guests to try the draft ales as a taster first to make sure all is good.

Oh my God. The worse wheatsheaf in the UK. Our cutlery was filthy the toilets filthy. The food cold. The guy behind the bar was serving could not cope. He was downright rude to a customer who had been waiting ages for food. The manager owner of this pub is useless. Obviously has not enough staff and can't run a pub. This is not a good brand advertisement for the wheatsheaf actually just looked at some other reviews and it seems the so called useless manager tells people not to come back. Says it all! What manager tells a customer with a complaint not to come back. This business will fail because of very bad service and incredibly bad attitude of management that can't take criticism. What a joke. Wheatsheaf take note. I have seen your reply and it's what you would expect. I suppose all the one star reviews that are historical are by the same person. I think you are in denial about your poor service and unable to take criticism. You are obviously tight with staff as it is severely understaffed. I don't believe as an owner manager you are fit for purpose. And your reply to criticism proves that. You obviously attended the BASIL FAWTY SCHOOL OF CUSTOMER SERVICE. X oh and hilariously I was looking at other reviews about not coming back. We did not speak to the manager and no one told us not to come back. This must have been another customer !! The food was beautifully presented and good fresh produce and reasonably priced. The service was excellent, staff very friendly and welcoming. I only gave 3 Stars for atmosphere as I went to lunch with friends on a Monday lunchtime, so it was quiet, but I liked that. Would definitely recommend a visit.

Enjoyed a meal out with friends. Walked but there seems to be plenty of parking out the back. Food was excellent, and large portions. Service was also very good. My only complaint is from other patrons, specifically those who bring loads of noisy kids into these small cozy pubs. It simply ruins the atmosphere and evening for everyone else. So be aware...maybe go during the week not the weekends to avoid families!

Visited for first time as hadn’t been before walked in decor and place was a bit old fashioned was a group of ppl swearing and being bit rowdy, luckily they left, the only annoying thing was the speakers where really old and tinny not nice atmosphere could be upgraded maybe play more relaxing music with no adverts blasting out on the old vibrating speakers. Staff where super friendly though and the food was home made and really good so other than the other issues wasn’t to bad. Lovely food and service just please buy a new sound system!

Visited with friends for lunch. We were not disappointed. Made to feel very welcome. Service was very good. Varied menu. The food was excellent and portion size was very good. No complaints whatsoever and looking forward to our next visit.

Met friends here for lunch. This was out 1st visit but most certainly will not be our last. The service could not be faulted, the prices very reasonable and the food was superb. My wife and I had the cod and chips and the batter on the fish was light and very tasty. Our friends had the hake and pie options and again were more than pleased with their choice. The premises were very clean and well laid out. There is a large outside seating area for when the weather improves and also a cafe to the rear. Large car park to the rear of the pub. A very pleasant experience all round.

Food was excellent, really fair size portions and very tasty Highly recommend the sunday roast and the sticky toffee pudding !

Too many people ordered salmon and prawn cocktail

Went on a walk with friends and decided to visit, and hoping they accepted walk ins. Fortunately they did, even though bar lady looked a bit surprised by a walk in! Had a lovely atmosphere, and nice decor, service was friendly, food was well presented and tasted delicious, reasonable prices. Only a suggestion is to the ladies bathroom, the seat is a little broken, and could do with paper towels, as handdryer is extremely slow!

Food was very worth waiting for, if you are a fan of liver and bacon total thumbs-up....Had a family catch lunch not rushed at all stayed their for two and a half hours. 3rd visit thus year, all very nice fois service still excellent..

Staff were very friendly and professional. Good choice on the menu and a specials board. I had the hake which was lovely, my husband and friend had the pie. We were all very pleased with our dishes and would recommend a visit.

Entering a full restaurant the waitress was on her own . She was extremely professional polite and friendly. What a super star she needs a medal and extra pay

Had amazing liver and bacon. Probably the best I've ever had. We also had the gammon which was excellent. Huge portion size. Great service and spotless cosy setting, but was a little quiet. But it is the calm before the storm of Christmas! Hugely recommend and will return for great pub grub and an intersting specials menu.

Visited for a steak night,12oz steak,chips,pea,tomato and mushroom for two plus a bottle of wine all for £30.Great offer good quality food nice atmosphere and friendly staff.All in all a great experience.Thanks to all involved.

We only stopped to shelter from the rain, if they had been doing bar snacks we would have eaten there. But we only had a drink as we didn't want a dinner.

We popped in weren't booked but was served quickly. Lovely food staff and surroundings . Lovely play area for children. We will be back.

Food looked really good, but I was having a few beers with a mate of mine. Serve some good beers and Ales at reasonable prices. Garden at rear and front. There is a separate kids play area at the back as well.

Lovely pub, ham baguette very nice, good quality food. Carries kitchen in the pub garden, to die for cakes!

Best roast beef Sunday lunch in ages , plenty of well cooked beef, gravy York one and loads of veg and extra gravy

We popped into the pub for a quick pint and it was enjoyable once the staff realised customers were waiting. Please ask staff to check on the bar more often between serving food instead of talking by the kitchen door

This is my first visit. On the positives.. ..nice childtens play area and good parking facilities. The standard of food was ok, as in acceptable, but compared to other places locally, not really up to standard. The burger however wasn't good and aside from.being well and truly overcooked beyond well done, it was tough and the bun was hard. Prcing, while acceptable, does not match the quality offered by other competing local pubs. So based on this the food is a little overpriced. Ambience did nothing. Felt a little run down and in need of a lift. It was better to sit. outdoors which feared better. The staff member who served me was a little bit rude, which left a bad initial impression. She was pleasant enough during mid service, but frankly speaking she should not be serving with that attitude. Its completely unnecessary.and unprofessional. In contrast the server within the annexe cafe was very friendly and welcoming. One of the remaining plus points to the whole experience. All in all i cant rate this place any higher than a 2 star and unlikely to return based on this experience.

Food good, but not outstanding. Staff very accommodating, playground area good, plenty of parking. Outside tables plentiful, nice surroundings. Very kid friendly.

We visited with our children and grandkids to celebrate my husbands 60th birthday. The pub catered for 8 adults and 7 children. The food was amazing especially the roast beef dinner. They catered to our gluten free needs too. Very friendly waitress and a lovely lady chef. We have visited before and we will definitely be returning.

Great food and section of Ale / lager at good prices

This is a hidden gem! We stumbled across it and had an AMAZING meal here. The food was incredible - so tasty and very high quality. They get their fish in fresh and you can really taste that. Huge portions, great value for money. Would recommend 10 out of 10.

Lovely pub and such friendly staff. The pub seating areas is so lovely, plenty of seating and some really lovely furniture. Particularly liked the sofa and arms chairs, they are gorgeous. Lovely quotes on the walls too. We only popped in for a couple of drinks but from what we saw of the menus there is a good selection of foods and reasonably priced. There is a cafe on-site too which is a bonus. A great play areas for the kids and plenty of parking too. We will definitely be going back. 😁

This is our local and we’ve always felt confident taking various friends and family here. Comfortable and unpretentious surroundings, friendly and efficient service and good food. We visited between Christmas and New Year and all had different things, including vegan. The Katsu chicken was really spicy and delicious. No room for dessert alas. Taking a family member to lunch this Sunday. She’s a proper foodie so interested to see what she thinks

Early Christmas lunch with friends. Great hospitality. We decided to share dipping bread to start and oh my, we were breaded out, wonderfully fresh and crisp. Good that on a lot of the main meals you can choose to go small and the desserts were divine. Also well priced. Very popular so would recommend booking.

I had a Google before visiting and the website advertises this pub as broadcasting live football. So I visited and they do have a TV. I asked if I could watch live football and the response initially seemed positive. However the manager (I presume) said no. No explanation just a refusal. I can appreciate the pub is small and a TV switched on for one person is possibly indulgent if that was in fact the reason. However I found this pub to be more local centric in that of locals wanted this game, he would have obliged but for me I was declined. This however is all speculation because I wasn’t offered an explanation as to why my request couldn’t be accommodated. A reason would have been nice. Verdict: Not the most welcoming for a visit as its size seems to dictate they cater to their locals and not to random visitors wishing to avail themselves f the things they advertise on their website.

This was our first visit to The Wheatsheaf so I'll starts with the good points. We received a warm welcome from a happy and friendly waitress who told us we could choose any of the vacant tables. The starter of mushroom soup was tasty as was the fish & chips and ham, egg and chips. However, one of our party who is on medication that prevents her drinking alcohol was told that they do not have any non alcoholic drink at all, which was not a good start. Then the waitress cleared away the plates of three of our party before the fourth person had finished. Not only that but then she brought our main courses; the fourth person had still not finished and the waitress asked her where she should put her meal. We were not impressed that the waitress did not ask us if we wanted any sauces to accompany our meals nor that she carried the cutlery in the pockets of her apron that we saw her also putting dirty glasses as she cleared the tables. It is a shame because this place looked clean and tidy, had a large car park and friendly atmosphere but the professionality of the waitress was not up to our standard. We did appreciate that she seemed to be on her own and serving in the restaurant and bar and was really busy but we would think twice about returning to the Wheatsheaf.

The warm welcome and the amazing food made this a place we will definitely be returning to. The homemade steak and ale pie was, in the words of my husband 'the best he has ever had'. I had the cheese and bacon burger, not for anyone with a small appetite, it had so much flavour. The kids weren't disappointed either. All the staff couldn't do enough for us, even though they were run off their feet.

Just returned from this lovely pub restaurant for dinner with friends and felt compelled to write a review. Goats cheese flatbread for starter with balsamic, rocket, tomato & onion was perfect. Then I had lamb steak, with beans and boulanger potatoes with the best gravy/sauce for main. I cannot tell you how delicious this was, well cooked, tasty. The young lady serving us was very attentive too, and made sure we were happy. All around a good experience, thoroughly recommend. I was surprised it wasn't busier because you are missing a treat. Reasonably priced too.

02-10-2022 Had lunch here today with my wife, son and his family. Staff were attentive and friendly, food was excellent with large portions at a very competitive price. Highly recommend even in these difficult times !!!

I went along for a Sunday roast during the eat out to help out a couple of years ago. An amazing meal, quite a plate full & they were surprised that there was nothing left!! I went again last Friday for fish & chips & sat outside in one of the cabins which was very comfortable & cosy. A delicious meal & very decent portion.

Visited the weeksheaf tonight with 2 friends for a catch up. The bar area was so comfy and welcoming as was the lady serving us (welcoming notcomfy that is!). Once we went through to our table the same could also be said for the restaurant area. A fantastic choice of menu. We all really enjoyed our meal, I highly recommend the lemon pancotta dessert if you have room. Will definitely be returning.

The finest and best value for money meals

Wow, just wow, a small country pub that delivers big quality food. Its rare i go in somewhere and want 5 or more things on the menu. I could eat here for two weeks in a row straight without repeating a dinner and they are all amazing. Oh and the specials board. Didnt even get to desert because we were so full. Amazing. So good we booked for Sunday dinner too, oh and kronenburg is on tap. If they did rooms id move in😁😁. They do all your pub favourites, but when the chef gets to show off, oh, head and shoulders above most pkaces ive been. The team in here are super too. Id honestly rate it 8 stars out of 5 if i could. Well done!!! Update we have now eaten here 5 times Its awesome, i had the skate wing last night with caper and lemon butter. Really good still the best around Update 24.7.22 just had the mega burger amazing, just amazing, can barely walk home 🍔🍔🍔😋😋

This is a local pub well known for its food. The Sunday lunches are excellent and plentiful. Usually a choice of beef, pork and chicken as well as vegetarian and vegan options. Staff are friendly and very helpful.

Had a meal here with some of my family. Staff friendly and attentive. Thoroughly enjoyed my main meal, absolutely delicious. The pudding of my choice wasn't so good but it didn't put me off and I would definitely eat here again.

Very quiet on my visit, but to be expected in the middle of all the uncertainty around covid19. On the plus side, quiet meant safer...so happy with that... Good was warm, good quality, plenty of choice and good service by the host ..to be recommended.😁
