The food here is excellent - freshly made, tasty and generous portion sizes - you won't be left hungry! The takeaway service is of the same high standard, and Kate is a warm and welcoming landlady who really cares about providing a first-class service. I would thoroughly recommend The Fox & Hounds as an outstanding pub/restaurant in a lovely village setting.

We generally pop in here for a few drinks in the evening after long work day, always friendly, always very welcoming. Kate and her staff follow the covid rules strictly, which helps you feel safe.Last Saturday, we dropped in for lunch. Same warm welcome, same tests and check in, which as I say, eases any concerns. There's a very good selection of drinks, to suit most tastes and served with a smile, which always is pleasing sight. We ordered our food and sat back to sample our drinks and chat with other patrons. Our meals then arrived, omg, the largest gammon steak, with two gorgeously cooked eggs on top, with amazing golden yokes arrived, a nice bowl of twice cooked chips as well. The gammon was perfectly cooked, still moist and easy to cut. Believe me, I've been served gammon as tough as leather in places, but this was top drawer. My other half's food was equally as good as mine. To be honest, I was struggling to finish it to be honest, but as it was so delicious I did. Can fault this pub in anyway, it's super friendly, extremely well run, very professional in every way. The service 1st class, atmosphere is warm, value for money is excellent. For me it's one of the best pubs around. Definitely be back again and again. Takeaway Sunday lunch is also so very very good. Always a good choice and great amount of veg. Long may the Fox serve its community

We’ve been here on May 9th during the COVID-19 lockdown. The pub is closed but opens around lunch and dinner time for takeaway service. The owner was super-nice and gave us a nifty paper bag decorated with a fish&chips theme. The fish&chips was delicious, chunky hand-cut chips were top-notch and mushy peas really tasty. Couldn’t ask more, really. I wish all the best to pub owners like this who struggle to provide great service during these difficult times.

Over the past few years we have driven past this delightful looking pub, and occasionally called in for a drink. A couple of years ago the restaurant looked good and we meant to eat there, but the pub changed hands and reviews were not good and then they stopped serving food.Recently, a new owner began serving food again and so we called in. Excellent! The food was superb - Roquefort soufflé to start, a fantastic free standing pie as a main and a strawberry parfait to finish. We also had a butternut squash and mushroom cannelloni and another dessert, raspberry mousse. The beer - Scrum Down - was very well kept. The service was spot on. Kate, the new owner and landlady, makes a point of welcoming and talking to all the guests and the other staff were friendly and attentive. It was good to see this little pub busy and I hope it will continue that way; it deserves to. We hope to be back before long.

We used to enjoy going here for beautifully cooked food from a varied menu and it was good for vegetarian meals. The front dining room is very cosy and was suited to the type of food served. Now the meals seem to consist of basic pub food - battered fish or scampi , steaks, ham and egg and burgers. There is a "v" by the scampi and chips and fish and chips with nothing for vegetarians and there are no starters. The service is mostly all right. The only delight was a marshmallow ice cream desert. The steak was nearly rare when medium was specified. The chips were fine but far too plentiful and the scampi was a little on the meagre side. Unfortunately we will not be returning.

My wife and I stopped here for dinner on our return trip from bury Saint Edmunds. We remembered an enjoyable evening two years ago and decided to return. We arrived at 7:30 and were promptly informed that there was no food. At 7:30. The staff was desperately trying to explain why this poorly managed Pub would not have food at 7:30 in the evening. Frankly there is no excuse. The real reason. The chef is lazy. The owner is sloppy and rude. After I sent the owner an email regarding our experience he shared a sob story about the loss of a employee due to a motorcycle accident. As sad as that is, that is no excuse for the way we were treated. The numbskull of the owner proceeded to conclude his email by saying we were no longer welcome at his pub. That’s laughable. With a dozen pubs in England closing a week, he should be begging us to spend our money in his establishment. Smug, arrogant, doomed. As the saying goes, “you can’t fix stupid!!! “

I agree with all the recent reviews written. This pub is only surviving because all the 4* & 5* reviews that go back to the fabulous food served by the previous Chef. The restaurant now is a joke, they still insist on leaving £12 Monday Madness evenings plus pages of the menu offered on other evenings on their webpage but basically as you can see by the RECENT reviews this just does not happen. And I can personally verify that.

The chef that collected all the plaudits for this pub has left. They were serving a very basic menu earlier this week which you could get for less in any chain pub or restaurant. The food was of good quality but the choice was terrible. The real issue is that you have to travel to this pub as it's out of town and there is nowhere else to eat locally. The website STILL advertises the old menu and there was no warning that it wasn't available. They could have phoned to let us know before we turned up but they didn't so we basically had no choice once we arrived. Very dissatisfied as we had planned a big family evening out for a month and ended up with nothing special.

This used to be our favourite place to eat but has gone downhill since a change of management. Have been twice but not again. Tempura prawn starter was ok, but the goats cheese disappointingly small and swallowed up by too much salad. The chicken tikka special looked good but had absolutely no taste whatsoever. Decided to avoid dessert. Second time we opted for a snack as nothing on the menu appealed to us. The experienced bar/waiting staff are friendly and helpful but almost have an almost apologetic air. It’s a lovely village pub but now sadly lacking atmosphere and leadership.

Arrived with friends for a pre-booked dinner, having been told that there had been a change of management and what was previously a decent place to eat. Waited 10 minutes to be acknowledged, while the clearly inexperienced staff rushed about serving drinks in the bar. Eventually, with many apologies, offered our choice of tables (telling, that, for a Friday evening!). Starters were safe but unimaginative - decently crisp tempura king prawns and a baked goats cheese. For mains, steak and chips was ok and cooked rare as requested, while the belly pork looked over-large. overcooked and over-soggy (although our friends said it was ok). One mouthful (mercifully small or I would not be writing this review) of my pheasant was enough to tell me it was off. Not off as in 'gamey, hung top perfection before being roast' but off as in 'filletted before being hung, then left too long ion a warm room before being frozen and defrosted'. Not merely horrible, but dangerous. We eschewed puddings after this experience and stuck to drowning our sorrows in a reasonable Malbec.

We have recently moved from a large city to this lovely rural location to retire. One of the selling points was the quaint village pub recommended highly to us by the previous occupants of our house. Great food, special cheese and wine evening, good friendly staff and great community spirit and lovely log fires in the winter We tried the restaurant on the way home and was immediately hooked. Since moving it had become a regular for us and when friends and family visited we always went to 'The Fox and Hounds' for mid week lunches plus a few Saturday & Sunday lunches. They had the usual pub classics but there was also a brilliant up market menu as good as most restaurants. The plus as well good size portions and very reasonable prices. Alas all has now changed the previous leaseholders have gone and with it unfortunately has gone the excellent food. The menu choices have been reduced, reduced size portions (especially the deserts) but inflated prices. Which add together the food served no longer good at all means will no longer be supporting our local pub.

We visited the Fox and Hounds for dinner last night based upon the amazing reviews it had received on here, but I must say we were disappointed. We do eat out on a regular basis and particularly like restaurants with a specials board as this usually gives the chef a chance for some creativity, and overhearing the next table it appears that they used to have a specials board but now is just the standard menu. We did wonder whether the pub has changed hands recently given the above. We were greeted on a friendly basis when we arrived but felt we almost had to search out the staff to get any further service.I had the herb crusted cod on a bed of prawn and spinach risotto, the cod was lovely but the risotto was very overcooked, soggy rice not what you expect from a risotto. My wife had the pork fillet which was bland, overly salted, overcooked and dry and not at all what was expected. All in all a disappointing experience and we shall not be returning.

Myself and my partner stopped off here for dinner Wednesday night and were really pleased we did. The pub was really busy for a small village, mostly locals that all knew one another so it was a really nice atmosphere. They certainly mix things up in there judging by the forthcoming events on the blackboard. Chinese night, live music, 2 course meal deals and lucky for us FREE cheese and biscuit Wednesday and only £4.10 for a large glass of wine ( Bargain) !!We managed to get a table out the front of the pub but they do however have a courtyard garden also at the back of the pub. I ordered the pork fillet, which was amazing, the pork was really tender and the sauce was gorgeous. My other half had the sea bass and he was super impressed by the flavours on his plate. I had the cheese for dessert and also tried some of the hot chocolate tart which was beautiful and home made I would say !!The prices for the food were really good and the staff were really friendly. I like it when everyone has a different dish so I can compare. On reflection I have to say the liver and bacon dish was the best. Fish and chips was huge. The vension with red cabbage was a little disappointing. The venison was excellent but let down by the red cabbage which was undercooked and sweetened with redcurrent jam to such an extent that it was inedible. Apart from that top marks for everything from beers to puddings. The Vanilla pannacotta was my favourite. The Steamed chocolate sponge pudding wasnt chocolately enough for me, but the orange custard was lovely. I will certainly come here again.

Stopped by whilst travelling back to Suffolk. Lovely old pub, helpful ladies behind the bar and good variety of choice on the menu, not just Sunday roast. However we ordered one roast and smoked haddock with rarebit topping, both were delicious. Too full for a pudding.

Wide range of food available. Had two hunters chicken (one without bacon or barbeque sauce) and a rump steak. Very generous portions and the rump was cooked a perfect rare. Very pleased and would visit again.

Visited in May last year when we left thinking very highly of this little boozer with great food.To be remembered on our return by the team was one thing. To be remembered by a villager aka 'Lovely dear..' made the experience of walking into an exquisitely well run village pub feel like a local, regular experience. The fire was lit, the locals welcoming, the menu varied and service very efficient. The food was delivered in great time and very well presented and portioned. And not forgetting, very tasty. The ale selection was great and the lower ABV offering from Mighty Oak delicious.Well done Fox and Hounds. Great stuff.

Went on Saturday for my mother in laws Birthday, Service as always was friendly and efficient. restaurant was busy but that did not effect the quality of the food or the attentiveness of the 2 members of staff that were serving the restaurant. Mother In Law stated it was the best food she had eaten in a long while, which coming from a person who is very particular in what she eats (in a nice way) is high praise indeed. Look forward to our next visit.

A friend recommended this pub for food a while ago, I wish I'd visited before!Food was amazing, my Dad is one of the fussiest eaters I know and he was in his element with the quality of the fish dishes...Tempura Prawns and Smoked Haddock! He said it was the best food he's eaten all year... not sure what that says about Mums cooking ha haIt was nice to have the high chair already at the table rather than having to hunt high and low to find one!Cleanliness was great, for those with babies... the baby changing was spotless... difficult to find these days. All in all, we all thoroughly enjoyed our meal, thank you, we will certainly be back.

A group of 9 friends visited here last weekend. Despite our party arriving and sitting down an hour late (our fault), one member needing to leave urgently requiring our meals to be delayed (our fault), the staff handled every challenge we threw at them with calm, professional and 'no problem' excellent customer service. The food was delicious, fresh and perfectly cooked. We didn't mean to be so difficult, but circumstances meant otherwise but we were overwhelmed by how well the staff dealt with everything. We will definitely return. Outstanding.

We visit The Fox and Hounds to eat about 6/8 times a year and on other occasions for a drink. This is a very friendly traditional pub with very pleasant and efficient staff offering good food at a reasonable price. The Fox is busy both at lunch time and in the evenings and it is advisable to book if you going to have a meal. The Fox also offer guest beers and recently received an award from CAMRA.

Popped in here for lunch, not a massive veggie menu, especially if you don't like goats cheese (why are pubs going so heavily into goats cheese!), so decided to have a baguette. Dad had the pulled pork, I had brie and cranberry, both came with a really good salad and chips. Both baguettes were really good, in fact neither of us could finish them so we had half each "to go". Very nice food, other tables had what looked like Gammon and chips and their plate were left empty.Very nice place, the only negative thing I could say was it was absolutely freezing cold in there. Will definitely be back either in the summer when the cold room would be happily received or in the winter when they have the heating on.Great place

We came here with friends while visiting. They explained to us that this was where they had their first date. I could see why its a good date destinations. It has a nice and relaxed atmosphere, but still feels somewhat upscale. The staff was very friendly and accommodated my request for switching a vegetarian plate into the very inexpensive pri fix two course menu. The food was delicious and very underpriced. I would love to return for dinner again some day.

Food better than actual restaurants. This small but very welcoming village pub serves up some of the best food I have eaten. Although this used to be my wife's local, every now and then I remind her of the food and we go and I have venison steak, with dauphinoise potato and red Savoy cabbage. For me it's always a delight and cooked with perfection. Highly recommended just for the food. With the bonus of a local pub on the other side of building
