Very friendly Excellent scotch eggs

Popped in for lunch after a walk around Helions Bumpstead. Very warm welcome and lovely toasted sandwiches for lunch. Thoroughly recommend. There was an open fire in the other bar for cold lunchtimes.

We came for lunch after a lovely autumn walk in Helions Bumpstead. First thing we noticed was the lovely log fire. There was a very warm welcome from Karen. We had delicious toasted sandwiches - goats cheese with fig preserve - and halloumi, fresh pesto and tomato. Came with home made coleslaw pickled veg and crisps. Very satisfying! The pub has been cleverly updated - is still full of beams and wood floors but has lots of comfy seating, artwork and fairy lights. Planning on returning this weekend to try out the breakfast.

Absolutely amazing breakfast, I’m afraid our usual breakfast spot has been retired today, we’ll be coming to The Fox and Hounds, Steeple Bumpstead in future. Eggs perfectly fried, sausages absolutely delicious, perfect tea and toast, as well as mushrooms, bacon, fried bread, beans, black pudding… huge and very reasonably priced. Service also hard to beat… thank you Kate and Karen!!

Excellent service and food. We were a large group of walkers and were all served within minutes of each other. Staff were friendly and professional. Everyone enjoyed their food Dining area, facilities were spotless.

Family lunch.. great food.. great staff,it was nice to see locals coming in for a pint and our dog loved that he could join us. We had been to listen to a live band here the week before and the whole experience was fantastic fun. Well done Kate!looking forward to this gem of a traditional pub becoming my local.

They pulled out stops for us a group of 20 people, it was a very hot day and they don't normally cater for such numbers, in the event they did exceedingly well. Unable to find a bigger venue anywhere within reasonable reach so we're intensely grateful for the effort made to accommodate us.

I had a lovely lunch at the Fox yesterday,such fresh produce in the sides of pickled veg and homemade coleslaw for my well filled prawn sandwich. These were served with a smile from Karen and I am looking forward to the cream teas that start on Friday

Super cozy and chill, even for watching Euros

You just have to come here for breakfast and if you have 'The Fox' the only question is whether it will be a two meal strategy day, or perhaps even just the one!! And two teas or coffees included in the price! Can't beat it. Suggest booking.

Went to Fox and Hounds after viewing a house. Cosy pub. I had fish finger sandwich, highly recommended! Light batter, tender fish, would definitely have again, and I will be back!

Perfect village pub for a relaxing drink in a garden with fantastic views

Great spot for breakfast on the way to Haverhill everything was cooked to perfection and would definitely recommend they had really meaty sausages and really tasty bubble and squeak drinks were amazing they included fresh barista coffee, pots of tea and any drink from behind the bar the warm log fire made it nice and cosy, overall one of the best breakfast places in the Haverhill area.

This spot is THE place to go if you are in the area and want a great atmosphere and wonderful & tasty food! We were served by a lovely woman called Karen and she made our visit all the more welcoming and homely. The food is very well priced for what you get and a large selection of drinks. The decor is very homely and comfortable, with a spacious and taken care of outdoor seating area and also an outdoor games room! Situated in a lovely area, this is 100% worth the visit when you’re in the area. Also it’s worth noting that this pub is open on Mondays and Tuesdays when almost every single other pub in the area for miles is closed. Will be sure to visit again. If I could give 0stars I would. Immediately entered and came to the bar as one of my friends went to find the loo. Within seconds of entering, I was confronted to ask what we wanted and informed them she has just gone to the loo then we are ordering to then have a response of "well normally customers come to me and ask what they want not try look for it" in a very stern and patronising manor. Instantly was looking up and down and asked where I was from. After buying a round of drinks and going for a smoke it was as though we was on constant surveillance for no reason. Terrible atmosphere when was paying customers with giving them nothing but respect. Had that drink and left. Will not be giving my money to them again.

Lovely little pub made special by a very friendly landlady and high quality value food and beer. Visited for lunch with a friend after reading other reviews and it did not disappoint. I had a fish finger sandwich which was fresh and tasty and my friend had a haddock risotto and was positively surprised by the amount of haddock. Good choice of different beers and lagers. Loved the whole place which was full of locals popping in for a pint with their dogs. Everyone was friendly.

Karen is always the best host. Great local pub..

Sixteen of our cycling club arrived in two groups having pre ordered lunch. Once drinks were served our lunches were delivered within a few minutes. The food we selected was simple but hearty and really good value. Service was excellent as was the beer. Certainly on our list for a return visit.

What a great village pub! Lovely landlady, pleasant people using it and excellent beers. Pity I live about 75 miles away - too far to walk! Definitely recommended.

An unexpected find for hungry travellers. A real traditional village pub and it was great. We were far from hungry when we left. Would certainly recommend.

Quaint friendly pub, friendly staff and dogs. Free cheese and bread on a Wednesday that's a nice little addition to our drink. Would go back for sure. Alittle hard to find parking but it was my first visit to village and I'm sure I will sort parking better next time. Wouldn't let it stop me from going back. Lovely sitted area outside again small but it's nice and comfortable.

With pubs closing everywhere, we are so lucky to still have an excellent village pub here. It ticks all the boxes for friendliness, excellent beer and food. Wife and I recently dropped in without booking for a weekday lunch and watched while the small number of staff coped efficiently with lunches for a 30+ cycling tour and then apologised for taking so long (it wasn't) with ours. Couldn't ask for a better local.

Busy day and required lunch and was blown away by the incredible Cajun chicken wrap! As always Kate and her team deliver the highest standards of quality and service as well as great beer and a warm welcome! If you’ve not been you are missing out! Christian

Landlady very rude not welcoming. treats it like her living room with her two dogs jumping up on the furniture. and then telling me to put my dog on a lead. About the worst landlady I have ever encountered.

Went to The Fox and Hounds at Steeple Bumpstead. We were going to have a meal but was told the kitchen was closed. We were very disappointed as we were looking forward to having something to eat. It was only just after 8pm. We could not believe it so after we had finished our drinks we left to go elsewhere. We won't bother with The Fox n Hounds in future unless they change the time they close the restaurant. Absolutely bizarre.

Fab meal! Nut roast was Very tasty, lots of flavour! It was our anniversary, so they added flowers, cut strawberries into hearts & made a chocolate heart dust in dessert! Staff Very friendly & helpful. We're going back again with 8 friends.

THE LANDLADY KATE, HER BAR LADY KAREN, AND THE TWO LOVELY LADIES WHO SERVED UP THE 19 FABULOUS, HOT LUNCHES WITH SUCH SMOOTH EFFICIENCY ALONG WITH MANY SMILES. THE LUNCHES THEMSELVES COULD NOT OF BEEN BETTER, IN AMOUNT AND FLAVOUR ( SO SO TASTY ). Had a fantastic meal here tonight, New Year's Eve, very friendly staff, the food and service was first class. Highly recommend the After Eight cheesecake! I had the Hunters Chicken which was delicious....the little side salad came in a whole lettuce leaf, little touches like that made it more enjoyable. Our waitress was the sweetest young lady who went above and beyond to ensure our night was a good one. Highly recommend 👌 will definitely be returning. Thank you 😊

Came here for lunch. My husband had Ploughmans and I had Tuna sandwich with a bowl of chips. Wow how lovely. Very reasonably priced. Great service and lovely staff. Definitely recommend it.

Lovely village pub food was excellent

We was there at 12.20pm we ate at 13.15pm so nearly an hour later. We waited 40 mins for coffee as the machine was not on, then never knew how to make a moccha as not trained . When it came 2 x cappuccinos they were more like latte coffees. Then said I want to order food please. But again had to ask. Then said may not have the lasagne. As the menu has changed . Its not her fault but come on do an up to date menu. Luckily 1 left. I only had a salad which was nice and the prawns were nice to. And that's it really, crisps were hard so maybe stale. You don't expect to wait an hour For food when at the time, we was the only ones there, sat by the loos with no one else inside . When we could of sat on the settee. Phone going off constantly in my ear . So no won't go back. ! And never ordered a pudding as prob another 30 mins.

We had a fantastic Sunday roast lunch.. my husband and I had roast lamb and all the trimmings' the cauliflower cheese was to die for and plenty of fresh veg and the gravy was flowing..sticky toffee pudding was delicious with ginger and toffee sauce...Definitely will return..service excellent as well..Thank you to all at Fox and Hounds

Very close to 5 stars for a country pub. Decent beer but not a great deal of choice. Food good and reasonable price. Nice and clean. Good service. So 4.5 really. Can't give everyone 5 star's unless well deserved. I would suggest offering an over sixties discount or dedicated smaller portions menu as we have enjoyed these elsewhere.

My husband and have been here a couple of times with friends and family. The food has been excellent and always piping hot and tasty. Well presented too. The staff have been friendly (service with a smile) and accommodating. I would definitely recommend and will be going there again.

Nice food, nice beer and nice place

My husband and I travelled an hour to meet two friends midway. I can honestly say it was well worth the journey on both parts. They’d catered for outside eating amazingly offering shelters, rugs, umbrellas if needed both front and back of the pub. From beginning to end the service was lovely and personal and our waitress Karen was a truly happy helpful lady and nothing was too much for her. When the food arrived we weren’t disappoint. The roasts were exceptional and the men’s fish and chips were delightful. We really can’t praise the pub and service highly enough even down to the pot of doggy treats brought out for our dog. Visited the Fox and Hounds Friday and Sunday. Had amazing evening in the garden. Kate provided blankets and heaters. Food and drink up to her usual excellent standard. Staff very friendly and efficient. Highly recommend a visit.

Sunday lunch takeaway.........superb. Our first takeaway from The Fox and Hounds we heard it was good and we were not disappointed, every bit of it was fantastic and so was my wife’s vegetarian option. Wow, definitely recommend it. Many thanks for a beautiful Sunday lunch.

In the last two weeks I’ve been to the Fox & Hounds for food 3 times. Due to the COVID restrictions, on some occasions I was only able to sit outside, however, the Fox & Hounds were extremely accommodating and even supplied blankets to keep me & my friends warm! The food is beyond delicious and the staff are so welcoming. It’s such a shame they’ll have to close once again due to new restrictions but I can’t stress enough how much you must try their takeaway menu! Thank you Kate & Hannah & team for running such a lovely village pub 👏🏼

Went to the Fox & Hounds for their first Chilli Night this evening - fabulous food and amazing prices - and the choice of chilli with chips, or rice, or BOTH! Outstanding service in an always-friendly atmosphere :-)

My family went to The Fox and Hounds on Sunday and wow what a service. The atmosphere is great,. Great home cooked food with a good choice of drinks. Great service from the staff :)

Friendly staff and locals who made us feel at home on 3 visits during a week’s holiday locally. Excellent local ales and beautifully prepared non pretentious pub and Italian menu. Dog friendly.

We generally pop in here for a few drinks in the evening after long work day, always friendly, always very welcoming. Kate and her staff follow the covid rules strictly, which helps you feel safe.Last Saturday, we dropped in for lunch. Same warm welcome, same tests and check in, which as I say, eases any concerns. There's a very good selection of drinks, to suit most tastes and served with a smile, which always is pleasing sight. We ordered our food and sat back to sample our drinks and chat with other patrons. Our meals then arrived, omg, the largest gammon steak, with two gorgeously cooked eggs on top, with amazing golden yokes arrived, a nice bowl of twice cooked chips as well. The gammon was perfectly cooked, still moist and easy to cut. Believe me, I've been served gammon as tough as leather in places, but this was top drawer. My other half's food was equally as good as mine. To be honest, I was struggling to finish it to be honest, but as it was so delicious I did. Can fault this pub in anyway, it's super friendly, extremely well run, very professional in every way. The service 1st class, atmosphere is warm, value for money is excellent. For me it's one of the best pubs around. Definitely be back again and again. Takeaway Sunday lunch is also so very very good. Always a good choice and great amount of veg. Long may the Fox serve its community

We’ve been here on May 9th during the COVID-19 lockdown. The pub is closed but opens around lunch and dinner time for takeaway service. The owner was super-nice and gave us a nifty paper bag decorated with a fish&chips theme. The fish&chips was delicious, chunky hand-cut chips were top-notch and mushy peas really tasty. Couldn’t ask more, really. I wish all the best to pub owners like this who struggle to provide great service during these difficult times.

Offering freshly cooked meals to your door. Delicious food, reasonable prices which is very important during this time, quick delivery. Good selection too. Satay prawns were amazing! Will deffo be using again soon. Thanks!

Great "buzzing" pub. Managed to get a table in restaurant. Food & service very good. They deserve to do well!
