Called here for the first time and will be the last. Ordered sandwiches , the bread looked and tasted as though it had come out of a cheap branded supermarket make. Hardly any salad to accompany the sandwiches and for the prices charged was way over the top. Since heard from other people that the food isn't as good as it used to be.

1st June 2019. Lunch for a family of 5. It was quite a pleasant day so we sat outside. Reasonable choice of sandwiches etc, and this was just what we wanted - a relatively quick inexpensive lunch. Nice service from staff not wedded to their menu; changes are catered for! Perfect stopover for us. Recommended.

Visited Castle Hedingham on a day out. Popped into Buckley's for a coffee, which was very nice. Decided to return for lunch, which was even nicer. Good food, very welcoming and pleasant service. A lot is made by themselves, like the mackeral pate (absolutely delicious) and the home made lemonade (a real treat). Nice surroundings and fittings. A really nice find, we will return.

Been coming here for what must be over thirty years when this place was called Magnolia run by Diane and her team with Lorna overseeing everything. Not as good now but as they say nostalgia is not what it used to be. The food used to be simple basic fare and top notch with really reasonable prices. Now those prices have gone up and in a sea of great places to eat the food isn’t quite as good as it used to be but similar. I think if cheaper it would hit all the right notes. The atmosphere is delightful and very quirky in this beautiful unspoilt village. But £5.95 for a bowl of nice homemade soup with bread and packet butter ( it used to be served in a little dish ) is in my view a bit expensive for a tea shop and more in line with a proper restaurant. Upstairs used to be a bric a brac shop and downstairs they used to sell cards, teapots, stuff for the house and kitchen so maybe I’m looking at it with rose tinted spectacles. Not so keen when I saw the “ wine bar “ upstairs. They sell wine now and a bit pricey. Used to like it when we took our own and as they didn’t charge corkage and we would give a glass or two to the staff. Still enjoyable but prices are a bit top heavy. Recommend though for what it is.

My wife wanted to visit this tea room for an afternoon tea but union arrival we realised that the specialty here was their cream tea quite different and not what she was after. So we just had a cup of tea here. I can tell you that the service was very friendly, and the cream tea looked wonderful with cream, scones, fresh strawberries 🍓, and I suspect strawberry 🍓 jam perfect for me but my wife just doesn’t like strawberries so we moved on.

We visited Hedingham Castle to finalise the arrangements for my daughter’s wedding there and had seen the tearoom whilst driving through. It was very cold on the day and the windows were steamed up and the place did not look that great but definitely do not judge a book by it’s cover because this tearoom is lovely. The building is gorgeously old and sympathetically furnished. The coffee is really good which came as a surprise and the menu is decidedly English which really added to the enjoyment. I had cheese on toast and my wife had beans on toast which was exactly what we wanted. The windows were steamed up because the place was busy and there are restrictions on heating for a listed building. There is an upstairs bar area which really looked comfortable, too. Castle Hedingham is a quiet place with lovel architecture all round and I will definitely travel the hour and a half to get here to have another walk and something to eat in Buckley’s. If you are used to High Street coffee chains this may be a bit of a culture shock but one worth having. Super friendly staff and when we were there easy parking.

Good portion size. Basic but tasty food. The waiter was friendly but he made several mistakes whilst serving us and we had to help him clear the table because he was clearly struggling. There were a lot of staff for the small number of customers however they were polite and bagged up excess food for us. The lady who I assumed was the owner was particularly chatty and apologetic over the noisy building work going on opposite. Worth a visit but I probably wouldn't return because there are a number of better establishments locally.

We arrived after 'lunch time' and the toastie machine etc had been turned off for the day. However, the staff were very helpful and gave us a list of items still available (sandwiches and soup). The food was lovely and we were all pleased! The atmosphere was great, which made the experience even better. My mother-in-law was interested to find out about and old relative who had once lived in the village and the staff were happy to point her in the direction if someone who may have knew her. The little shop upstairs was great too, selling a range of things, some dating back to the war.

Every now and then have lunch or tea and cake here, today I had both. Food all very nice, reasonably priced and good service. Today one of the ladys behind the counter popped her head under the counter by our table making me jump and asked why I was taking pictures of the menu. Firstly I wasnt i just had my phone in my hand whilst looking at the menu and Secondly I dont see what the problem would be if I was, I know my mum might take a photo of a menu of where she has eaten to email to penpals of her trips out. I think she was saying she thought I was from a rival tea rooms or something and checking out her prices. Bit odd and made me feel awkward.

The waitress forgot our order but no apology was given in spite of our complaint. The staff just stood around chatting. Hot drinks were served to each of us separately as was the food (I waited 40 minutes for a jacket potato), so our party of five all ate separately. Lovely setting and a beautiful small teashop but no excuse for the tea tasting "funny" with a sort of chemical taste, don't know if it was what they washed the cups in last time or the chlorinated water. Might be a good idea to ask Anglian Water to investigate as friends living locally sometimes have similar problems. Question if proprietors ever taste their own menu as some of the meals have unusual combinations but overall interesting and staff helpful and smiling. It was like stepping into a lost past England of the 1950's I have given a Very Good mark and not an Excellent mark simply because of the tea - it really was foul.

We live in the next village to Castle & regularly visit Buckley's. It is the yard stick by which we measure all tea rooms we visit and to date there are few that can compare. I'm surprised by one of the other reviews here as we love the tea, so much so we regulaly purchase the brand now. It's true the water in this area is very hard but we love the tea and regularly buy a 2nd pot. Thy even do free top ups with hot water. In the warmer months (April to September), we often walk there for one of their lovely Sunday roasts, there is always a choice of 2, chicken or usually beef or pork. Every roast we've had has been lovely. There are always accompaniments for meats & an extra jug of gravy. There is always at least 3 different types of dessert. Today we had rhubarb & custard tart & ginger & orange cheesecake. All gorgeous. Their cheesecakes are particularly good. When we visit on a weekday we often go for soup & a sandwich, which i believe is £5.95. The soup is always tasty home made soup, usually a choice of 2 flavours. Parsnip soup is particularly good. The bread is always very tasty & fresh & there is a good choice of fillings. I once had a chicken & ham pie that was divine & i still think about. The portion sizes are generous, a good sized wedge of cake or dessert is always provided. The service is always friendly and unless inundated by some surprise group of visitors, very quick. The ambience of the tea room is lovely, inside a Tudor beamed building, as mentioned there is a small antiques area upstairs & a nice little card shop & 2nd hand book area at the back. There are pictures by a local artist hanging on the wall for sale & free range eggs for sale from the local school. I have had the tea cake before i have to say but noticed no taint to it unlike the other reviewer. In short, a lovely tea room with good portions, good & changing range of foods & friendly staff. The village round the tea room is lovely, full of old timbered buildings. There is also the castle nearby to visit.

We chose this small tearoom over the two pubs for lunch after a walk. The meal started well with pleasant service, and a very acceptable roast dinner. Our plates were cleared but then the waitress disappeared for quite a while. The owner who was also serving went and sat with a group she obviously knew so by the time the waitress came back we had lost interest in a dessert so just paid and left.A good start, but a very poor finish.

We spent today visiting the Norman Castle nearby which was very interesting with beautiful grounds, a small but nice tea-room and lovely walks. Then walked down to the village trying to find the youth hostel we stayed in 20 years ago but found out it has been closed for several years. Castle Hedingham is a very pretty and interesting village and we were so pleased we came across Buckley's Tea Rooms for a late lunch. My husband had beans on toast and I had jacket potato, cheese and salad, plus excellent coffee and a pot of loose leaf tea. The menu looked very good and everything appears to be locally sourced and home cooked. The building itself dates from 1550 and is full of character. The staff were friendly and efficient and we were served quickly. I would definitely recommend a visit to Buckley's and plan to try many more items on their menu next time we're in the area.Try Buckley's for yourself - you won't be disappointed. Stopped off on a hot afternoon for a pot of tea. There was one table outside (which would have suited us), with one lady sitting by it, with no food or drink. Went inside and ordered one pot of tea for two, one toasted tea cake with butter, and one scone with jam and butter. Butter was not hard-good point, but tea cake was very small, as too was the scone. Both left an after taste a bit like baking powder and the tea smelt of chlorine. Price would have been ok if portion size was regular. The lady outside turned out to be the previous owner just watching the world go by and using up the table!Overall a disappointing experience.

We have been to Buckleys a couple of times recently for a Sunday roast and on both occasions been thoroughly pleased. The tea rooms is decorated with tea pots, baskets and all looks very nice. The service is fast and efficient and the staff very friendly especially the manageress. The food comes out quickly but is obviously fresh, and tastes delicious. The meat was of a very high quality and the vegetables well cooked and we were given a gravy boat and offered horseraddish which were pleasant additions. There is an array of tempting looking cakes and dessert specials- we had a crumble and proffiteroles which were excellent. Up the stairs (provided you remember to duck for the low beams) is a traditional antique shop and there is also a card shop where we picked up a couple of lovely cards and a wooden ornamental duck! Overall, I would thoroughly recommend buckleys to anyone for a good value meal or coffee in a traditional, proper tea rooms!
