What a lovely pub, great ambience as you walk in and lovely staff. Dinner with a friend on a October evening. I had an inventive creation of lightly curried sea trout which was quite excellent while my friend had a burger and fries which were equally good. Then I had apple crumble with custard which was quite inedible! The apple was microwaved to about 1000 degrees with something like chewy and tasteless like quinoa on top with a little jug of thin and lumpy custard. How can you murder something as simple as apple crumble? And if it doesn't involve butter, sugar and flour then it isn't crumble! But I'd happily go back because it was so pleasant, just avoid the apple not-crumble.

At first sight The Rose and Crown in Harpley is the typical English Country pub.’ attractive building, hub of village life, serving good beer. But our visit for lunch as two couples, very quickly highlighted this gem was so much more! On a Wednesday lunchtime in October, the pub was buzzing with a great atmosphere. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The menu was varied, interesting and something different to the ‘norm’ The food itself was further proof that this was special and more than lived up to expectations. In short a perfectly enjoyable lunch which we are sure to repeat

We’ve been before and knew this would be the perfect place for a sociable lazy lunch with friends we hadn’t seen since before covid. We were so right. Our friends were delayed due to traffic problems so I called to see if it was alright to move our booking back by 30 minutes, the staff were very helpful, reassuring and accommodating. We were greeted with a smile, that’s so important. The waiters all knew a lot about each item on the menu, including the gluten free, and about the wine. The food was beautifully presented and was delicious. We had three courses, and they were served at just the right pace. It was a lovely meal in a very sociable atmosphere, a big thank you to all the staff, we’ll be back again soon with more friends.

Six of us and well-behaved dog had dinner for an 80th birthday celebration ..... the food, drinks, service and staff were all fantastic, with a marvellous flourish with cake and candles and a special thankyou to Evan on his successful first night. Visited mid week for the late lunch deal. Excellent meal and excellent value. A small but delicious menu. We could have happily eaten anything on it. We went with friends who visit regularly and we can see why. Hope to revisit when we are in Norfolk next time. Friendly helpful staff and a good beer selection. A lovely pub with a quirky interior.

Stopped off here on the way to our holiday cottage. We had pre-booked. Had a great Saturday lunchtime meal. The staff were efficient and polite. Shown to our table with a run down of the specials on the menu that day. Drinks came quickly. The food was delicious. Had a lovely wild garlic and mushroom vegetarian tagliatelle. So refreshing not to have eaten yet another vegetarian burger and chips. They offer a vegan/vegetarian menu and had some interesting dishes on here. Husband raved about the sea bass on risotto and my teenage daughter loved the burger! Pleasant atmosphere. Live band struck up outside in the garden. It was pretty loud but nice to hear love music in a pub. Pleasant visit. Good value for money and food was great!

As usual the food was delicious (chicken and bacon milanese, seabream, lime cheesecake) and the Wherry top notch. The waiting staff were charming as ever. Very reasonable prices for the area and considering the cost of quality ingredients. You will need to book, it is always busy! Tues evening was absolutely heaving, full inside and out. (Perhaps they should not have agreed to so many people dining, as there was a long delay, but everyone was warned.) Our regular haunt for many years, we always have great food and wonderful service here.

We’ve driven past the Rose and Crown multiple times in the past couple of years, but we’d never stopped there until now. How stupid of us not to have dined here sooner! My confit lamb ragu and my husband’s venison duo were delicious, and the toffee apple crumble and sticky toffee pudding (both served with the house custard) were lovely. The beer (Woodforde’s Reedlighter) was well kept - we’ll certainly be back very soon.

I have quite literally just got home after enjoying a fabulous lunch at the Rose and Crown. The fact that there is a Vegetarian menu with enticing choices makes this a cut above most establishments in North Norfolk and the range of dishes for those of us who do enjoy meat and fish based meals is also impressive. Let’s face it if you order olives as a starter would you imagine that they would be served with basil ice cream? … in an establishment that appears to be a country pub? A feast for the eyes as well as the tastebuds, the food is beautifully prepared, seasoned and presented and served by the friendliest, most welcoming and professional staff you are likely to meet.

We went to the rose and crown for Sunday roast, we had booked quite late in the week and had to have a table in the garden room, at first we were a bit apprehensive as we were the only ones in there, but the staff couldn’t have been any nicer, they kept popping back to make sure we had everything we needed. The food was absolutely fantastic, great portion sizes and everything you would want from a roast, not a huge selection of desserts but once again portion sizes were good and well made. Good value for money and lovely friendly staff.

What a fabulous country pub. This was our first visit and we went specifically for Sunday Lunch. The place was full and good job we had booked. Exceedingly friendly, welcoming and attentive staff. A good selection of draught beers and wine list. I myself had the soup of the day for starters and the roast beef with traditional Yorkshire pudding (gigantic) and a nice selection of well prepared vegetables- the gravy was exceptional too. For dessert I had the apple and cinnamon crumble with custard. Absolutely yummy. My wife chose from the extensive a la carte menu having welsh rarebit as her starters followed by chicken as her main course and lemon Eton mess for dessert. She too thought all three dishes were really nice. Clearly the Chef knows what and how to present. We certainly will be back and would thoroughly recommend anyone to make a visit.

The best Sunday roast ever. We were a party of 4. For starters 2 had the scotch egg, 1 had the pate and 1 had the wild rabbit ravioli. Everyone loved their choice. We all had a roast. 3 had beef one had pork. The food was delicious. Tender meat, perfectly cooked veg and special mentions for the gravy and cauliflower cheese. Everything was just full of flavour. None of us could remember ever having a better Sunday roast. The cheese board followed along with very good coffee. The pub was very busy and the service remained unflustered and friendly. Our only regret is that none of us are local and so we will not be able to return more than once or twice a year. We met family members who we hadn’t seen for a long time and this was a great place for us to drive towards each other and get together. We we will be back. Stumbled upon this on way back from Norfolk: not just a pub, far from it. The attention to detail is excellent, from how the tables are laid up through to their quirky (old) toilets and the individual touches these owners have made their mark on. Sat outside as a glorious day in their large garden (a little odd in areas, old sofa!!) but the service from walking in to leaving was excellent. Young lad in the main looked after us and was knowledgable: Overall This place was better than most whom appear to side on Hospital approach rather than hospitable during these pandemic times. Food - had Cromer salad and a risotto as lunch mains: Both dishes matched the quality of this place and hit the mark in what they are achieving. That is a true individual Gastro style pub, great ambience, great cooking with local producers and aimed at those that appreciate great service, great drink and great food. All priced at “It doesn’t matter as long as it exceeds your expectation” Will without a doubt be back!

We dine out in North Norfolk as a couple or with friends quite frequently. After a recent visit to Hector's Barn in Harpley we were recommended to try the Rose & Crown in the village too.We did so yesterday and the four of us - two couples - were very impressed with the whole package of food, ambience and service. We were greeted promptly by friendly staff who took our initial drinks order and showed us to our table. We sat beside an open wood fire surrounded by an eclectic decor of old prints and pub paraphernalia. Cosy and welcoming on a grey winter day.The pub offers a special price on three courses (slightly smaller than full size portions) and a drink for £20 - which turned out to be great value. Two of us opted for this and we weren't disappointed. The Game Pie in particular was delicious as were the hand carved chips - all served pipping hot. The other two had full sized mains (skipping a starter): duck chili noodles and Beef Bourguignon, respectively. Three of us had the chocolate brownie option for dessert - fantastic - and one had the "mum's" trifle.Empty plates after each course tells its own story. We liked it so much we booked for Sunday lunch the following week. Highly recommended.

We went for a meal at teatime. The menu was OK, service was OK. This pub is obviously trying to be different! The food was just OK but I had pie and mash and it was served in a bowl with some soggy green veg which could have been kale. We all had dessert because the main was so small - perhaps that's how they sell more. The dessert was advertised as warm bakewell tart but it was cold. The custard was lukewarm and served in a little milk bottle!! What was that all about? We prefer 'normal' food and decent portions. The pub was cold and none of us took our coats off which wasn't ideal. We won't be going there again.

Visited for Sunday lunch. Was a bit wary considering some adverse reports on the service on here but very happily surprised. The bar staff and welcome was very good. We were seated and given the menus and I ordered the £10 soup and roast beef. A great choice and excellent value. My mum also ordered the roast which she liked well done and that’s how it was. My dad had the fish crumble which he enjoyed. On being given menus for pudding the blackberry and apple crumble special was not mentioned but we had overheard another waitress enthusing about it so we asked for that. It was delicious. I have rated 4/5 because not all the staff knew of the crumble, but this was our only complaint in an otherwise lovely meal in a cosy setting. Thankyou.

The two starters we had to share (whitebait and charcuterie) were well presented and prepared and the welcome, beer and wine were excellent. We would certainly stop there again if repeating the journey.

At about 2,00pm we spotted a sign on the main road saying food served from 12 - 9.00pm, so made our way down to the village.

I have to say we were very disappointed the service was poor, the starter was lacking in imagination as the dip that came with the meat seemed to be from a jar not home made. I think the charcuterie was from the supermarket and not locally sourced.

This is a large country pub in the centre of the village. It has a garden, and a small car park in front. It serves a good range of beers, and has a small wine list, prices are in line with other pubs in the area.

Two of us visited here last Saturday evening on the strength of the reviews. We'd pre-booked. We had a table in the Garden room, which is bright and airy. Drinks were brought promptly and our orders were then taken.

Called in for a meal with a friend. After serving us drinks they realised we wanted to eat, we were given menus and shown to a table. There were about 3 other tables in use in the dining area. After 20 minutes or so (with the waitress moving backwards and forwards to other tables) decided we apparently had to order at the bar. Went there, to be told by her that I will come to you. 2 of our party had chosen the vegetarian risotto, I'd gone for fish gnocchi. When she arrived to take our order we were told "no risotto". The vegetarian in our party was pointed to the only other vegetarian item on the menu, a "goats cheese flatbread" with no exression of concern at the limted choice (lucky not a vegan!). Not quite "we will always try and tailor the night to you and this includes specific meal requests". The other party member switched to the fish gnocchi as well.

We've eaten here on and off for a while now. Service always friendly & helpful...you're made to feel very welcome. Twice our visits have been for Sunday lunch & it's excellent!! Roast beef as it should be, served rare (although I overheard the waitress to another table saying if they didn't want rare, chef was able to accommodate). A full plate is served, but not too much that it's overwhelming. The flavours are fab, seasoned well and a meal with that 'home from home' feel, but is evident that it's cooked by a proper chef...but not too pretentious! Local real ales, a good drivers selection too. We'll be back again soon

Just back from an amazing Good Friday visit to The Rose & Crown, Snettisham with my family. I chose this venue because it was child friendly. We had a beautiful lunch, fish and chips, highly recommended. My granddaughters thoroughly enjoyed playing in the lovely walled garden complete with pirate ship. The weather was glorious, the atmosphere buzzing and the service very good despite being exceptionally busy. We came away having experienced the feel good factor. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending this place. For those wanting peace and quiet with their pint there were plenty of nooks and crannies to hide away in. Certainly worth a return visit.

Ive visited the Rose and Crown on a few occasions and always enjoyed the experience. The pub itself has a warm, cosy and inviting feel and the staff have always been extremely friendly and gone above and beyond for us. We've found there can be quite a wait between mains and desserts, and have nearly had to forgo a pudding on one occasion. The tables are a little on the close side, and depending on what one you're on you can sometimes feel a little cramped and I am by no means a big person. The Sunday roasts are lovely, ands its especially nice to have a vegetarian version too. The main menu isn't extensive which is always a good sign and has a nice mixture of dishes that change with what's in season. The Bakewell dessert was good, nice that it was served warm, however I'm not a fan of the small milk bottles for serving custard in, a case of style over substance as its not easy to get it all out.

Had a lunch here today with friends. The meal was good, not as good as our last visit, but it has changed hands. I had the pork cheeks, they were beautifully tender but the herb in the dish tended to overpower the taste of the pork. The gnocchi served with it was nicely cooked. My wife had the venison pies. She enjoyed her meal however her pastry was not fully cooked and it tended to be a bit salty.. The venison appeared to be minced and had lost a lot of its flavour as a result. However it is difficult to serve chunks of venison in two small pies.

I wish I could find one positive thing to say about a utterly disastrous "dinning experience" at this pub. I booked a table, waited several minuets at the bar on arrival for someone to notice we were there, woeful lack of staff, we had to order our own food at the bar as no one came to the table, it took 1hr & 20 mins after the order went in for lukewarm mediocre food to appear most of which got left on the table as it was presented.

I have waited a while to review this because our experiences have been very mixed, but overall I must conclude that this is one of the best pubs we have found in the area. The food is wonderful (though I guess we must have been on Chef's day off very occasionally, when the food has been markedly different).

Family visit for early evening meal. Very short staffed. Ordered drinks - fine. Decided to have platter to share with corn, onion rings and chicken - lovely. Main courses arrived. Scampi and chips not bad. Only had beef pies and these were so well cooked they tasted burnt and were left - came with very lumpy mash. Pigeon stew - tasty pigeon on top of mash but no real gravy with it - how can it be a stew? Mexican platter - several bowls of chilli, pulled pork, pulled chicken and rice with a plate with tortilla, guacamole & other bits. It was pretty flavourless and only lukewarm.. I pointed the burnt pies out to the waitress who said she would tell the chef. Had to ask for dessert menu ourselves as waiting so long. Bill came to over £130 - no reduction or apology’s for burnt or cold food.

Dropped in for a pint with my other half. Spent a while waiting to even be acknowledged. Once we were I ordered a gin and asked to try a bitter. We were duly given the gin and taster of bitter. I then spent a further 20 minutes waiting to be served for the full pint of beer I wanted...

We stopped off here for a family Sunday lunch whilst on holiday. It was a last minute booking but they were able to fit us in. The service was excellent, food lovely and general feel of the place was a proper English country pub. Our Labrador was welcome and they provided water bowls for him. Well worth a look, and we’d definitely stop there again if we were in the area.

True Norfolk village pub serving traditional pub food. The atmosphere was very nice on a Saturday evening and the beer was very well kept, the food was very nicely presented and very hot and tasty. My wife hade halloumi fries and a side salad and home made onion chutney for her starter, I had a bowl of mussel in wine sauce, it was massive and very tasty, I would have said as bid as many main meals. For our mains my wife had butternut squash and cheese risotto.she said again super tasty and I have to say it was a large bowl of risotto, but there was none left ,this speaks volumes. For main I had the cod and chips, thick fresh cod cooked to perfection with peas salad and some very tasty thick chips. Aft er 3 pints of Norfolk Nog, I decided I did not want a desert ,neither did my wife. I must just add the desert menu did not live up to the rest of the menu. The bill was just over £40 in total, so I feel not bad value.

Visited here with my wife. Could only have a black coffee as I was on my way to hospital. Coffee was excellent and great value. (I have no doubt the food will be good too). The guy who runs it is really friendly. Will definitely come again when I can eat something!

Everyone should go here just for the milkshakes. We even had an extra milkshake instead of dessert because they are soooo good. Rayna May was a friendly, efficient, knowledgeable waitress. The place was really clean and comfortable. The food was very reasonably priced. My salad was amazing, my friend really enjoyed her burger and did I mention the milkshakes 🤣🤣🤣

As regular customers for lunch on Saturdays my partner and I have noticed that the service has got worse. If the owner isn’t there, the young staff who despite doing their best, leave customers for ages before taking orders and don’t notice when customers need them. Today we received our beers but no glasses, then we waited 50 mins for 2 basic mains and a side dish, they came followed by our cutlery. The food is good and the staff are lovely but it’s clear there weren’t enough doing front of house and probably the kitchen, as we weren’t alone waiting ages today. We want to support it as an independent restaurant but the really slow service is putting us off.
