What an excellent choice of meals, starters and main courses and a specific lunch menu too!! 5 of us all had different meals and a pudding each as well. Everything was perfect. Good value for money too. The pub has been decorated and furnished well - tables not too close together. And the staff were amazingly friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Probably one of the best pub lunches we've had for years.

Welcoming atmosphere and superb team ……oh yes, and the food was excellent……. Thanks for making our first night in Bungay a success.

This used to be our local for a couple of drinks. We returned here after a while for a drink but found the middle aged brunette very rude. She just glared at us and didn't acknowledge us at all. The young blonde bar lady was extremely polite and helpful so cannot fault her at all. Sadly we will not be returning as we were made to feel unwelcome. Such a shame as used to be such a friendly and welcoming pub! Seems like more of a restaurant now and they don't care about locals.

We had dinner here last night. When we arrived it was full. We were immediately welcomed and taken to a lovely table where drinks were offered and served and our food order was taken. The food arrived in good time and like all the other guests around us we were very happy and enjoyed every mouthful of each course. The service was fantastic , food delicious and just the right amount and it was great value! We will be back and have already highly recommended The Fleece to all our local friends & family. Thank you very much.

First time visit for us , the friends who came with us visited many times Food was great , four main course lunches and two desserts Problem was with the service , from the minute we entered the waitress ( older lady , won’t say mature as her behaviour wasn’t ) was sharp , brusk and very unfriendly We think it may have been because our friend had the approached the bar after we we entered to ask to sample a beer and she was told basically to get back to her seat as it was table service only ! This attitude continued on throughout the meal . Two of us ordered dessert from her and after watching for at least 15 minutes as others ordered and received desserts my friend approached another staff member to ask where ours were . She and her other young colleague who finally bought our desserts were lovely and full of apologies and said our order had been “ lost” ! When she finally returned to our table to take away the lunch extra bowls which she hadn't bothered to clear before the desserts arrived she made no mention for delay of desserts or apology We noticed she had a similar manner with the group of ladies did ing at the next table , I wonder how they had annoyed her ! The food was great but we won’t return there , no one wants to eat in an atmosphere when you feel apprehensive every time the server approaches and no we didn’t leave a tip for ‘good service ‘ because we didn’t received ‘good service ‘

Sadly our recent visit didn't live up to expectations. 3 of our 4 diners had problems with their dishes. Whist we were offered replacements for the steak dishes it would have meant 2 of the diners would be eating their main courses at different times. Lets hope it was a one off experience. Disappointing as it was a birthday treat.

We came for Sunday lunch which I knew would be good because I’d eaten here before. But somehow yesterday was perfect - we had the option to eat inside or in the courtyard and we chose the courtyard because it was a beautiful summer’s day. There was enough shade and a gentle hum of conversation. No music. No noise. Just gorgeous. The food was perfect, we had a burger, sea bream, seared tuna and it was all cooked to perfection. Very good value for money and lovely ambience. Thank you.

Great ambience and relaxed atmosphere. Excellent food at reasonable prices. Good choices on menu. Gluten free needs well catered for. We had two main courses, puddings and drinks for £54.00 Would highly recommend.

So good we visited twice in two nights. Excellent squash and falafel salad on the second night. Pork and chorizo scotch egg, and the tuna steak, a highlight on the first. Pub coped with being busy - food still came pretty quickly.

The second year running we’ve been here for lunch on the way home from the Latitude Festival. Perfect spot for my husband to Edit and send photos of the hands to his agency. The staff could not be more friendly or attentive and the food, drinks and service were all first rate. Looking forward to next year!

Waiter was the only positive on this visit overpriced chef needs to up his game will not returning shame as it could really have been a good experience

We went with family for a low key birthday meal. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. Very good service, not rushed through the meal. The food was fantastic. Have been before for drinks, and again, the staff were super friendly and happy. Makes such a difference!

Booked by phone & was recommended to come at 12:00 for Sunday lunch - right choice … we had the delightful mackerel rillettes / pate to start and then the roast beef - excellent selection of vegetables even included roast beetroot (devil’s vegetable to two of us - so other guest had ours on his plate straight from the kitchen) Perfect portions even if the knives weren’t best to cut through the tender beef and the hardy Yorkies. Would have loved to try the desserts but as wonderful and tempting they were we were all well replete. Can’t fault the staff - really friendly and welcoming as you walk in and through out the service; lovely restaurant environment; clean toilets and great food - great combination! Well done to all the front of house staff and to the chef & kitchen team - job well done! Only teeny tiny negative was parking - we didn’t know how or where to find the car park behind The Fleece … might be worth mentioning when bookings taken by phone (especially to non locals)

There are some positives, but I won't be going back. Easy parking—very friendly, attentive staff—and DOG FRIENDLY inside. But given the size of the pub, there is a limited choice of ales. The menu was quite large, but it was all high on carbs, and everything came with chips and a lacklustre salad. So even the frittata, whose main component is potatoes, came with chips. This would not have been so bad if the oil the chips came in hadn't been old and burnt. I felt a bit queasy afterwards. This was all a bit of a shame because the staff were pretty much faultless.

Popped into the Fleece for a late lunch on Saturday 27 April - food was good as expected, however the customer service was excellent well done guys!

Complete impromptu visit while visiting the town where I went to school. Excellent service, nice not over complicated menu and something for everyone. My partner and I chose four dishes to share between us. 1x the mackerel pate, which my partner said was possibly the best she'd ever had. Ix hallumi sticks with sweet chilli sauce. Very tasty. Ix pork fresh scotch egg with caramelised onion chutney, again very tasty. I x portion of 2 different houmus. It's a little bland, but certainly not worth a slating. The beer mynither half had was lovely. Well kept, good temperature. I just had a Campari which was fine. Not overpriced and I'll definitely go again next time I'm in Bungay.

So disappointed! Having visited the Fleece on numerous occasions over the past five years and had wonderful meals we can only assume there has been a change of chef. I chose the Sea Bream, the fish itself was cooked to perfection but the accompanying vegetables were so tough that I could not cut them and the sauce was tepid. The waitress offered a fresh serving of beans and broccoli but unfortunately the beans were still like leather and this time the broccoli was over cooked. Sadly this was supposed to be a birthday celebration, entirely let down by the food.

Can’t recommend highly enough. Staff extremely friendly and welcoming. Both meals were delicious, best pub food I’ve had in a long time.

Last time I went to this pub I experienced poor quality food and frosty customer service. As a result I had avoided ever since but I had to return last month as my family booked a family birthday party there. I wasn’t looking forward to going back, but I have to say I had a completely different experience. The staff were all really friendly and couldn’t have been more helpful and the food was excellent. Maybe there’s been a change of ownership.

This is a great place to enjoy time with friends or family. We came as a group of 7 for dinner Friday night and loved it so much we came back for Sunday lunch that same weekend. Great food, service and value was felt by all of us! Definitely recommend.

Top class for food , service and venue . So nice being in the trade to be welcomed by a great friendly team who looked happy to be there . First class service . Our table was checked on to see if everything was ok and it certainly was . Our friend who’s 101 was made to feel very special and old fashioned service os somewhat lacking today . Another absolutely first class Mother’s Day lunch at our favourite restaurant! Excellent service especially as part of our family were delayed on an exceptionally busy day. We were not rushed and our meal was wonderful and we’re all already looking forward to next time.

Delicious family meal here to celebrate a birthday. Easily the nicest bit of steak I’ve ever had, cosy restaurant and lovely friendly staff! Would recommend to anyone and can’t wait to come back again. Thank you!

We booked for dinner on a Tuesday evening, the service and food was absolutely faultless , we can't wait to try the Sunday roast. Reasonably priced and highly recommended.

Plus points; plenty of options, especially non meat, reasonably priced, service was good, food arrived quickly, food was pleasant. Negatives. Not the most dazzling atmosphere. Definitely a pub, not a restaurant. But the main issue was there simply wasn't enough and we had to buy bread to complement. Nouvelle cuisine is a very specific style of ultra refined cooking relying of freshness and lightness, not as many chefs mistake it; simply halving rather more ordinary dishes! Hopefully they read this and bring extra vegetables to the table or at least offer them. In France they still bring bread as a matter of course, I wish more English restaurants would follow this lead. I'd only recommend that you eat there if you aren't very hungry.

This was our first meal at the fleece and it was superb, I had smoked haddock & my partner home made fish fingers, with skin on chips and dressed salad and a side of onion rings. It was all cooked to perfection and we will definitely go back and work our way through their menus. The eating & bar areas are all beautifully decorated with a welcoming feel and all the staff were friendly and not overly priced either. I Highly recommend this privately owned gem in Bungay.

We have been here as a family several times now and today we were celebrating hubby’s birthday. The service was exceptional and the food superb and very reasonable priced. Why travel any further when this place is only 6 miles away. Nothing is ever too much to ask of them and we will be back soon! Cannot recommend highly enough!

Never been to Bungay before and decided on lunch at The Fleece Inn. So glad we did! Delicious, locally sourced food, everything beautifully cooked and an excellent menu. We were turned away with lies saying that they had no empty tables that could accommodate our party of eight. When we walked away we could see into the pub and there was tables available. We could only assume that the reason was that we were not wearing masks.

Took my elderly auntie and uncle here because they live locally and like it. For me it was my first visit. I have to say having had lunch there I am at a loss as to why they are so keen. The interior decor is nice but the chairs were hard and uncomfortable. None of our chairs had cushions and when we asked if there was a cushion available for my elderly aunt, the waitress (manageress??) huffed and stole one from a bench at a nearby table that was occupied without speaking to us or the other table! We were only provided two napkins for 4 people and the manageress looked really unimpressed when we requested two more - which she never actually brought, my husband ended up having to go and ask again after our food had arrived. The ketchup bottle on our table was empty so we requested ketchup and were given 3 sachets - for 4 people, again by a non-communicative and unfriendly staff member. We shared them rather than ask again. I requested another drink during the meal and again the manageress gave me the impression my request was an unwelcome chore. The actual meal was also poor. My husband and I had the burger and chips. We both thought the burger lacked flavour, it just tasted like unseasoned mince rather than a burger, and both the burger and chips were completely saturated with oil. It was oozing out of the chips onto the plate as I tried to cut them. I hate greasy food. Oil was also coming out of the burger roll as I was trying to eat it. Others on the table had the fish and chips and said they were very good. And there wasn’t a long wait for the food to arrive. Only two of the group had a drink, (one of which was a half of larger) the rest of us were on water, we all only had one course and two of us had a coffee and the meal cost us over £80 for 4. I’m happy to pay for good food and service but sadly had neither at the Fleece. If the staff don’t enjoy working in hospitality- go and get a job where you don’t have to be friendly.

Four of us had a meal on 13/11. Great service, really lovely autumnal options on the menu. We all were very impressed by the standard of food. We all had three courses, which is rare, but we’re too tempted not to.Would definitely recommend to others.

Our party arrived at different times and having not seen each other for nearly 2 years lots of chat. We were told we would need to order quickly as the kitchen closed at 8pm, no problem. All meal were good and great time being had when at approx 8.50 we were told they were closing at 9 !We felt really let down, had we been told we would have gone elsewhere, spending a good sum of money we were expecting to have a decent time to sit , relax with dinner and drink. we arrived approx at 7.45 and out the door at 9 As leaving I approached who I thought was the manager for the evening, well that was deaf ears if ever I encounted , well its a thursday, we open later on a weekend ... sadly poor . I do not often leave bad feedback but I definately will think twice before returning

During our stay in Bungay we eat at The Fleece twice, the standard Saturday evening menu and the Sunday lunch. After being let down last minute on Saturday evening by another restaurant we headed to The Fleece. The staff were so so so helpful and kind, they sorted us a table and the service was outstanding. Portions were great and so lovely. We returned the next day for Sunday lunch to be greeted by the same lovely happy staff. The roast was delightful, so so so tasty.We plan to return next year and will be booking in for another Sunday roast!!

my husband and i have eaten here regularly now over the last couple of months and what a find! we travel nearly and hour to go here because the food is beautifully prepared, great on the eyes, fantastic on the taste buds and pleasing to the wallet. decor is beautiful, chairs comfy and staff very very friendly smart and polite. well done to all who are involved in this great place.
