The best restaurants serving British food in East of England

I had a great roast dinner, but the experience was completely undermined by the dessert. After a few mouthfuls, I noticed it tasted off and had a strange smell. I sent it back, and was told by the waitress that while the cream was still in date, the chef had smelled it and agreed it had turned. He then passed on the message that I’d be fine and wouldn’t be charged. Frankly, that’s not good enough. If the chef knew the cream had gone off, it should never have been served. And if there’s a question about food safety, he should have spoken to me directly—not passed the message through someone else. I wasn’t looking for a free dessert—I was concerned about getting sick on the way home. It’s a real shame, because what could have been a great meal ended on a very sour note.

Nice country pub to enjoy a Sunday roast with friends, the fire was burning when we arrived which gave the place a homely and relaxing feel. The roast chicken was lovely, nice big Yorkshire pudding and a generous serving of 4 roast potatoes. However, the vegetables were very disappointing and let the overall meal down. For pudding we had an Eton mess meringue and chocolate brownie, both were very tasty. The service was a little slow at times but the place was busy (always a good sign) which would explain why. Also be warned the car park surface is terrible and not suitable for low cars or elderly / people with mobility difficulties.

We were staying at the Premier Inn next door and it was our first night after a long drive so we wanted a quick early meal. Steph the manager smiled and acknowledged us as soon as we arrived ( always a good sign) even though she was busy. Our waitress Misha was excellent - warm,friendly and very efficient. We both had fish and chips which was lovely and a surprisingly large portion at the unbelievable price of only £6 (ordered before 6pm. )A brilliant start to our stay in Norfolk. Thankyou !

My son and granddaughter chose to bring me here for an early Mother's Day meal, I'd not been to The Dog since my husband died. We were warmly welcomed, the service was friendly and expert and the food was delicious! Couldn't wish for better!

Came for lunch today and was served by Hayley who kindly checked we’d put in our car number plates so we got free parking. She was very friendly. We had the two course set lunch which was good value for £13.99 and you still get the free salad bar. Lovely lunch, will return soon.

We had an early dinner on Saturday, very disappointed with it...The carvery deck was full of spillings of vegetables..Vegetables where dry and didn't look appetising, gravy station dirty..Especially i worked for Toby's myself..So i know the standards.. Not very happy..Thinking twice to go back to this restaurant...

El menú degustador vino con maridaje de vinos por £ 60 cada uno. Era tan buena relación calidad-precio. Nuestro camarero Caine realmente nos cuidó y explicó todos los cursos y también recomendó algunos lugares para visitar durante nuestra estancia. Sin duda lo recomendaría.

The dining experience was truly exceptional, elevated by the impeccable service provided by our waitress Sofia. Her attentiveness and warm demeanor created a welcoming atmosphere. The culinary creations were equally impressive, showcasing a masterful blend of flavors. The Korean chicken butger dish, in particular, was a standout, boasting a perfect balance of crispy texture and savory sauce. Overall, the combination of superb service and delectable cuisine made for a memorable meal.

Unfortunately not the best experience. Food isn’t great and very low quality.l, especially the sandwiches. We didn’t eat much of our food and staff did not question at all. Along with having aperol spritz and told ‘there’s no ice’ No ice… how can a pub have no ice? Overcharged on drinks and refund took 30 mins. Plenty of other pubs like the boat 2 minutes away with better service and food quality, unfortunately would not visit again.

30th birthday ruined, would not bother. Whilst the settings are nice, the service was awful. We went at 7:30pm on a Sunday and by 9pm we still didn’t have our main courses, so we asked for them to be packed and taken away. The 2 pods either side of us who both arrived later than us, had finished their main courses before ours even arrived. Also the food is very average (coming from an Indian), don’t waste your time or money. None of the waiters know how to smile or be friendly either..

We really enjoyed our four days in the room above the pub. Babs and crew are just lovely. Great meals, especially the breakfasts. Overall enjoyably quirky.

Fantastic little pub on the high street! Really friendly staff and punters too. Dog friendly which was a fantastic, and the GSD loves the Dog Station with fresh water and treats! The food was also really nice! All round nice pub! Thank you 😀
