The best restaurants serving British food in East of England

This place has weird hippie vibes mixed with smelly incense and indian music. I used shazam to work out what it was playing. It was “While My Sitar Gently Weeps Banaras Baba & Kolkata Kid” Very strange music unrelated to jungles and more Hindu religion. I was expecting food all there was some cakes and empty sausage rolls in the cake container on display. We aren't from the area and just googled cafes close by. The cakes were average, not fresh. The place was empty except for two other people there. I didn't like the dangling plants every where. One to avoid if you're ever in the area.

I phoned 4 days before Mothers Day to book a table for lunch for my son and myself but when we arrived everywhere was locked up and we were told that they had been closed for 3 months. I don't know who took the booking but I was disgusted at such treatment.

Having dined here many times this visit was a huge disappointment. We ordered 2 lattes which were quickly dispensed and ordered our lunch, mine was Brie & Cranberry Ciabbata and my husband ordered battered cod and chips. The food was served quite promptly and looked to be good. My ciabbata was lovely with a nice side of chips and salad so no complaints there, my husband however, whilst the cod looked nice and crispy, found that it was dangerously hot and burnt underneath! The batter was rock solid and totally inedible. He returned his meal and asked for a refund which was given without hesitation. The lattes were sadly not good, bitter coffee and more like americanos, certainly no frothy top to them. Such a shame, hopefully just a blip from the chef.

Our favourite venue for a meal, the service is always first class and selection of food is always variable. local parking is ideal for me as walking is limited. It is a family venue Thankyou for always making the effort.

Just had a excellent roast dinner here with my hubby. The food was 5 stars, everything cooked perfectly. Waitress brilliant

Interesting and varied menu, good price, friendly helpful staff. We have small appetites, so just had a starter and dessert. Both were excellent, the dessert was light and fluffy. The pub had been recommended by a friend, so we tried it but it was so good we went back again the following day.

How disappointed we were I booked a table for 7 people at 11:30 and a further 7 people for 12 noon We were running the Chelmsford 10k and half marathon The 11:30 crowd arrived early and had breakfast The older lady in charge was very abrupt bordering on rudeness There were 2tables reserved for 12noon crowd which we suggested she gave up as people were waiting and we would go when the others arrived hence giving them our table I have subsequently heard that they were requested to leave as they had been sitting there from 11am and one lady was not allowed to finish her meal It was not just us who found her attitude rude but subsequent other diners not linked to our group I come into Small Talk when I visit Chelmsford but after this experience I shan’t visit again A very disappointed diner

Classic Adnams pub. Simple, high quality, well-cooked food - most of it local. Rooms are simple but well-organised and with all amenities. Perfect for visiting and exploring Orford

It’s always wonderful to visit Fritton Lake, laid back luxury with such beautiful grounds, great food and lovely atmosphere. Every member of staff is so friendly and helpful, the Club House beautifully decorated. It’s a rare treat to find somewhere as lovely as this, and it’s dog friendly!

Best Sunday Dinner in a very long time, absolutely delicious, had the spared platter of meats for 2 , amazing value and quality

It was a very damp and showery morning and we weren’t sure if the restaurant was even open! But we tried the door and it was . The lady on the bar asked the kitchen if they were still serving breakfast (it was only 10.10am) and they were. We sat down and there was a very damp smell in the room. Which was a little off putting but We ordered full English and Vegan breakfast, both with coffee. The coffee were served piping Hot which was lovely as usually they go cold before breakfast is served. But breakfast came and coffee was still hot!. Breakfast was also really hot and delicious, good local produce and served with a smile. Deffo come back again! Serves lunches and coffee and cake too so worth drying at different times of the day.

Friendly welcoming waitress, ( young, brown hair and glasses) , good service , nice food. Loved the salted caramel hot chocolate that was recommended to us. Highly recommend as waitress even made our dog feel special!

Treated my mum for Christmas dinner . Friendly staff and meal was 5* Reasonable priced Definitely book again , To paul and family and staff merry Christmas and great new year

DID NOT ENJOY THE MEAL ON BOXING DAY VERY HARD ROAST POTATOES POOR SERVICE ALL THE TABLES WERE NOT SET HAD TO ASK FOR CUTLERY
