Finding ourselves in Orford, we spotted this pub and ventured in. From the outset, a friendly atmosphere - a nice place to be. Started with an Adnams beer and a white wine, and both of us had the blue cheese and walnut salad from the Light Bites section. It was great! A beautifully presented large bowl of freshness (wasn't keen on the dressing on the side, but that's a personal choice only). Service was really good, and we thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience - would go back, for sure.

We stayed in Orford for a week and visited The Kings Head a few times. The staff were super friendly and helpful. Service was impeccable. The menu is good and varied with daily specials including their ‘crock pot’. Plenty of choice for younger ones and adults. Generous portions and all clearly homemade. Delicious pub food if that’s what you are after. Highly recommend

We were tempted in by a board outside advertising a hotpot casserole. Service was slow, but we were eventually served with a sausage hotpot for two people. It arrived having been ladled into a large, completely cold cast-iron pot, accompanied by a small, rather nasty supermarket bake-ar-home baguette and four molten wrapped rectangles of butter. We were given cold bowls to eat from. The quantity was extremely ungenerous and the casserole, though delicious, was lukewarm. We queried the cold pots and bowls and we’re told that the cook usually warmed the pots but hadn’t had time. The restaurant was not full. We were not tempted to stay and will not return.

Popped into the kings for a beer on a midweek night in september to relax, three good plus points were good company, friendly staff, the young barmaid and barman were very chatty and good fun, a reasonable lager to drink which is a rarity in orford pubs nowadays, and now the weekend warriors headed back south down the A12 it was nice just to sit on the bar stools at the bar and relax.

So we went to Orford castle and found the King's Head after a walk around the lovely village. A warm welcome in the pub from the staff and we sat outside, we both ordered sandwiches which were delicious and the Adnams stout went down well. We left .... and realised when we got back to our hotel in Aldeburgh that I had left my binoculars on the wooden seat at the pub. I was gutted as family heirloom due to my collection of horseracing badges. I left a message and was so relieved to receive a call saying that they were behind the bar ... So thank you sooooo much

Positives…called after a booking elsewhere was cancelled (covid related) & they fitted us in at the last minute. Food was good and it has a no frills value for money menu. Cooked well and service very good. Negatives…young lad who looked after us was really nice but maybe I’m old fashioned but the love bite doesn’t look very professional. The pub smelt of a proper boozer mainly of toilets. I’m no snob and am not fussy but it was a little off putting. Would recommend the chilli nachos but didn’t stay for pudding.

We turned up just before the kitchen closed and ordered a ham and piccalilli sandwich and a cheddar and chutney. It is easy for a pub to get such simple sandwiches wrong but these were very good served with good fresh salad garnish and just what we wanted. They have a slightly annoying app order process in place that is a little tricky to navigate but in the big scheme of things, this is not a problem as the food was good, the Ghost Ship delicious, and they are taking safety seriously. We had lunch in here a couple of times over the weekend and I couldn't fault it. The "but" in my title is because for some strange reason guests are not allowed to eat at tables by the fire as these are reserved for "drinkers". These tables stayed mainly empty until a man challenged the rule and was eventually allowed to sit his elderly father by the fire so that he could eat in the warm. To say it was awkward for the poor lad working there who was tasked with enforcing the rule and everyone else obediently eating at the allotted tables is an under-statement.

However I do feel having dogs sitting on the bar area being fed by the staff the left over potatoes was a bit much. I am a dog lover and owner but I think this is a bit too far. Popped in for lunch after visiting the castle. Adnams beer on tap and a good lunchtime menu. Perfect. The sandwiches were doorstep and appetising but we opted for plain scampi and chips. The chips seemed to be authentic and actually cut from real potatoes as opposed to the ubiquitous, tasteless oven-ready horrors served in most pubs. The scampi was good and the tartar sauce was rustic and appeared to be 'homemade'. The pub is friendly, the staff welcoming and, joy of joys, there is no music! We will certainly be back.

The title sums it up. We had undercooked, overcooked and perfection in the same meal. If I'd been served up the Stilton and Broccoli soup in half the volume and twice the price at some celebrity chef venue I'd still have enthused over it. Cauliflower cheese, undercooked, chicken overcooked, steak perfect. Perhaps it was just a bad day. Sending stuff back to the kitchen rarely works, your evening is then disjointed. So, perhaps they were having a bad day. It happens. There were plenty of other punters around and they seemed to be having a good time.

Worked up an appetite with a Saturday lunchtime stroll suggested by an Adnams pub walks guide, along The Ore from The Quay at Orford and back past the castle. Our hunger was boosted by watching a bobbing seal demolish a fish in the estuary, and a swan nosing into a dyke bank in the marshes, so we were pleased to be able to squeeze into The King's Head next to what we took for a well-behaved posh hen group. My wife enjoyed the naturally-smoked haddock with prawns (and delicious new potatoes) from the specials board. It's hard to beat fish & chips out of paper on a quayside or beach, but the coastal pub version I plumped for was spot on. Beer-battered cod bigger than the plate and tenderly flakey inside, chips crisp on the outside with a fluffy inner, Tartare with bite, stubby bottle of locally-made ketchup. All washed down with the always excellent handpumped Adnams. This will be our go-to pub next time we're visiting the area.

Booked for Sunday birthday lunch, Two had soup could have been thicker and hotter. Two had pork, Two had beef. Again the food could have been hotter and why not ask customers how they want their beef cooked? The Beef served to us was red raw in parts and impossible to cut into. Why assume we all like red raw meat, Very off putting to my Husband as two years ago he had very bad food poisoning after eating Calves liver that was not cooked properly and ended up very ill and losing a stone in weight in just one week. The desserts were okay, Saw two dogs sitting quietly under the table they were together so no growling, In fact remarked to my Husband better behaved than most peoples kids and we had four. So any kick off must have been before we arrived, Some people go over board if they see dogs around. Does not bother us at all. Would like to say the table holder that holds the table number was covered in sticky mucky whatever off peoples fingers, Obviously who cleans the tables down does not think to put a damp cloth over that and wipe it down. That to us was disgusting to look at and the salt and pepper pot needed a wipe over as well. Finally the young female food server should ask customers if everything is alright when they are eating not when they are leaving,

A visit to Orford for lunch with my parents. My mum has extremely high standards and for that matter so do I! We had planned lunch at another local eating place but discovered that lunch service ceased at 2pm. So we looked and found The King's Head who serve later. We received a very warm welcome where nothing was too much trouble. We sat in the dining area which I thought was lovely. I appreciate older buildings with character and charm and this felt warm and inviting. The menu offered a really good choice. My mother who is incredibly choosy about her food ordered a Wing of Skate, my father ordered Liver & Bacon, my husband ordered the King's Head Burger and I ordered the Steak & Ale Pie. The food arrived at our table and all I can say is wow!! Nicely presented, incredibly fresh and I personally didn't know where to start with the Steak & Ale Pie served with chips, carrots, cauliflower and mange tout. The pie was well filled with no soggy pastry, the chips were perfect and the vegetables were cooked to perfection. My parents said that their dishes were delicious too. My husband totally enjoyed his burger with chips, beautifully fresh salad and a home made burger relish. Desert just had to be done, sticky toffee pudding with ice-cream and chocolate brownie with ice-cream. Absolutely divine. Staff were lovely and we will return to this very welcoming village public house. When I say that my mother had no complaints whatsoever then that means this place is well worth a visit......believe me :)) Thank you to The King's Head and we will be visiting again soon!

Evening service, 5 of us, 2 having fish and chips (which were huge) 1 having the seafood linguine 1 a rare steak and the 5th having steak and ale pie. Short wait for the meals to arrive, but not unacceptable. All the meals delivered at the same time all perfectly cooked. Well done the chef for getting timing right so all the veg were as they should be. The pastry on the pie wasn’t just a puff pastry lid stuck on at the end, it was a proper pie top sealing in the filling during cooking so this was very tasty. Well worth the money, we’re here for a few days so I know we’ll be back. Hopefully next time the liver I’d seen on the menu board the previous day will be back. Did I mention the menu varies each day another sign of a well run restaurant.

Friendly staff and very good food. However, room very, very basic with the smallest tv I have ever seen. Noisy being next to rood with window having to be open. There are creaking floors and creaking floors but this one was ridiculous ~ heaven help the people below it. Did not find room or dining area that clean. Sticky tables and left over breakfast items left out for hours on the table in the summer heat with the resulting flies. Very disappointed and would not stay again despite the friendly staff and excellent food.

A very pub on the edge of the village square with extensive menu and local beers. Fish baguette and crayfish sandwich were tasty and filling. Thanks for the vote if you found this review helpful.

A friendly pub in the centre of the village. Nice to find a pub with no TV or machines these days. Quite an extensive menu, and the normal range of Adnams beers.

This 'ancient' traditional pub has seemingly been modified on many occasions but retains it's 'historic' image. However, whilst the Bar is welcoming and offers a wide range of Adnams ales, wines and spirits the overall layout and fixtures/fittings are somewhat drab.

The kings head in Orford is a great place to base yourself to explore the Suffolk coast. Orford itself is a pretty village with plenty to offer. The castle, an interesting church, the Ness and some fabulous walks. A nice circular walk of around 12 miles through snape is very nice as is a trip on the buttley ferry across to shingle street. The kings head manages to strike a good balance between pub, inn and eatery. The beer is well kept if a little pricey, staff are friendly and welcoming. The food is very good and the accommodation more than adequate. All in all very nice.

Often pop to orford but have never been in until this evening. Lovely, welcoming atmosphere. Scampi and chips and the burger were fab. Best chips I've had in a while. My partner loved the sticky toffee pudding, one of the best he has had, and that is saying something. We will come again!

We have just spent the long weekend in Suffolk and based our three night stay at the King's Head. We were made welcome from the minute we arrived and our miniature long haired dachshund enjoyed himself as much as we did!

Had lunch here when visiting the castle. Needed a light lunch as we were having a dinner in the evening. I had sausage and mash, lovely onion gravy and the wife had ham egg and chips, home cooked ham and the best eggs.

First time we have been here as we normally frequent the other Adnams pub. But I am glad we gave this a go, friendly and very efficient service followed by a massive roast beer dinner with loads of nice veg and a homely pub to enjoy it in.

Had a lovely Sunday morning walk at Orford, mooched around the village for a while and then went into the King's Head for lunch. We were made very welcome and I had a wonderful grilled flounder (you don't often see that on a menu!). it quickly filled up and I imagine it's very popular, for entirely understandable reasons.

This pub offers a big cosy fire, sumptuous food with game roasts. Real community feel to it with access to info on walking locally etc. A fine selection of ales and a welcomi g greeting from the bar. Highly recommended

A proper pub, good friendly service , well kept beers with an ever changing guest ale, no food just good conversation in a pleasant environment. If you long for a traditional well run pub serving good ale the Old Mariners is for you.

Tried to arrange our engagement party here and is the worst communication and service from the event organiser I have ever received. Constantly ignored even when it got to the point of going into the sea you to speak to the lady who organises. Had to keep chasing for responses and in the end was just ignored and never got back to. Is a real shame as we really liked the cafe there but will not be returning after the way we were treated.
