Brewers Fayre Mayflower in Tendring

We stayed here for 4 nights and had a good time. Breakfast was good and the personal Reece and Mel made it extra special with their kindes and service.

Good food and great service, would def stay again. Reece is a legend and always happy in the morning, let the man smoke in peace A*

The Mayflower is great place for breakfast after leaving the overnight ferry from Hook, also conveniently located on the route out of Harwich.

I had booked breakfast here for 15 people, at 9.30, and confirmed two days beforehand, when I arrived there 15 mins beforehand there was no sign of my booking even though Reece, the member of staff on duty, remembered someone taking that call. I can only say that Reece saved the day, he went to the kitchen to inform the cook of the situation and by the time we had all arrived and taken a seat at 9.35 Reece came and took our orders. By the time I had got another drink and a piece of toast the food was coming out. The food was well cooked and good value. A big shout out for Reece for rescuing what could have been a very awkward situation!!

Reece and the staff really pulled the stops out to make our men’s breakfast a success. The food was well cooked and presented and the coffee was better than usually expected in similar establishments. So good I’m going back Sunday for lunch!

Great food Reece and Sharon were fantastic with us our party was 11 strong but nothing was too much trouble we will be back room 4 thanks again guys

We stayed for 1 night before heading to the Netherlands. As a family with 2 young children we were pleased with the corner room that had 2 single beds and the double main bed. The welcome was friendly and efficient and we were in the room in no time. It was very hot - no air conditioning (as per the hotel website). But there was a very powerful fan and the window open so it was manageable. Breakfast was again very efficient and tasty. Shoutout to Reece, restaurant manager. He was friendly, professional, and engaging. His cheerful demeanour picked us all up and made for a very happy experience. Thanks!

Really lovely meal again today. Some of the group had Sunday roast (which was delicious), others had great food from the menu. Big shout- out to Liam for managing to seat 18 people in an area together (and his manner throughout), and Reece and Daisy for being so attentive, polite and professional. We were made to feel very comfortable even though we were a big party and there were quite a few other customers. Excellent value for money and good quality food. Thanks Guys!

They are severely understaffed and do not serve half of the products they have on the menu as it’s only the ‘day time menu’. They really need to sort the management out before the place goes under.

I haven't been to the mayflower for years. The last time was for my mums birthday meal 3 years ago, we had 2 young children and waited 1.5hours for our mains. My wife had been their recently for lunch and said the food was good! Especially the desert, and would love to go for her birthday. I booked a table for 11 over a week in advance for 6pm. We arrived and were told there is a 45-60minute wait for food, and because of the size of our table they cannot guarantee our food will come out at the exactly the same time. This was fair they has warned us but it was also gross understatement. They did have notices up saying they didn't accept walk ins, which was fine, we had booked. We heard they only had 1 person in the kitchen, and from what we could see 2-3members of staff running front of house. NOT A MANAGER IN SIGHT. I also can't stress that it was not full. It was a long way away from capacity. So of our 11, the first 4 main dishes came out after 1hour 5mins...reasonable. Another dish came out 10minutes later. My young children had starters with their kids meal, consisting of nachos. No dips as they didn't want them, just a bowl of crisps. These took 1hour and 45minutes to come out. By this time, my children were becoming quite tearful. My inlaws dinner came out next. And at roughly 2hours in to our meal, everyone's plates were cleared from the table. WE STILL HAD NOT HAD OUR FOOD, NOR THE CHILDRENS MAINS. My wife went to speak to the staff, and working in hospitality was incredibly understanding, we know this is a management issue and not a staff issue. It was not the waiting staffs fault. They were under the impression it was just the children who hadn't had their meal, but we informed them we hadn't either. After 2hours 20mins, our food arrived. The wifes bun-less burger, boasting "grilled chicken breast, avocado, tomato salsa, lettuce topped with sour cream" arrived. It was lettuce, two slices of tomato, and a COLD chicken breast that was bordering pink in the middle. No avocado, no salsa, no sour cream. My daughter, who by this point was tired, frustrated, really lost control when her chicken was cold, her corn on the cob fell apart, she didn't like it and to be fair to her the corn looked rank. My son (5) managed to eat some of his chips whilst falling asleep in his chair. The staff were accommodating when I wouldn't pay for most of the food. I asked for the cake we had bought down for a birthday celebration to be given back to me in the bag as we had no time for this. I felt extremely bad for the continued customers coming in from the adjoining Hotel placing orders for food, not knowing how long they'd have had to wait and what would arrive when it got there. We left, and got some food from the mcdonalds across the road. So I wasn't going to leave a review, but I thought I'd phone them this morning, and ask if I could order the desert my wife wanted for a treat, maybe give the restaurant a chance to redeem itself. I wasn't asking to have them for free, I wanted to pay. I was told quite sternly this isn't something they would do through fear of repercussions if something were to go wrong. I think think allowing a takeaway desert is the least of their worries. Genuinly disorganised. Understaffed, clearly incredibly poorly managed. This town has lost plenty of good places over the last few years, and this in my book is another restaurant gone. If I worked their, I'd be looking to get off that clearly sinking ship, I wouldn't want my name anywhere near that car crash.

Food when finally arrived was good, but took a while, restaurant was practically empty. Attitude of duty manager and waitresses left a lot to be desired. Very off hand and not cheerful. Won’t be back.

As a 'valued member' with Brewers Fayre, or so they inform us, we booked a table for Mother's Day lunch after receiving an email offering us a deal on this. When we arrived we were informed that our table had been double booked and we could only have a 'tall table', when one became available and there would be at least a 1 hour wait for food. This is not only unprofessional but disappointing as we had not planned for any other food for lunch and as it was Mother's Day, getting a table elsewhere would be difficult. We were not offered any form of apology, compensation, complimentary drink or similar, so we left and we do not plan to revisit a Brewers Fayre after this poor planning and service. We will ensure that others are made aware of this very unprofessional attitude. We understand that it's a busy day on Mother's Day, but where a booking is taken and accepted, this is very poor and unprofessional to have your booking double booked and us made to feel that it's our fault, even though we received a reminder of the booking the day before it.

Really disappointed had a table for 6 booked for lothers day, got to the restaurant and told the table was not ready as they over booked and couldn't give us any indication on how long the wait for the table would be, once we could be seated it would be at least a hour for food. No management on shift and not willing to offer any form of reimbursement or complementary drinks while we wait, managed to get a booking elsewhere, will not be returning as this is not the first time this has happened

Slow service to get appalling food. Took an hour to receive our meals. The “medium” steak was bloody and chewy. The burger requested without salad came with all the salad. Mac and Cheese was thin and watery, how do you make watery Mac and Cheese? We’ve tried this restaurant three times and, unsurprisingly they always have a table, though the staff do a big show of trying to find you a space when there’s so many free tables. This is the last time we go here. McDonald’s across the road actually has better food. At least it’s hot. Avoid, spend your money elsewhere.

Awful, food cold, one hour wait for main couse, cauliflower cheese still frozen arrived 15 mins after meal, steak sauce arrived 10 mins after meal. Will never set foot in there again

Voordat wij de Ferry van Harwich naar Hoek van Holland namen dachten wij met 6 volwassen personen (echtparen) hier te gaan dineren. Het bleek helaas een teleurstelling, het is een smoezelige eet zaak, vies tapijt, vlekkerige stoelen en plakkende tafels. De Menukaart staat vol met standaard gerechten als bb. chicken wings en bbq burgers. Je moet zelf bestellen én direct betalen aan de bar, na lang wachten wordt het eten gebracht en moet je weer opstaan om een "refil" drank te verkrijgen zónder nieuw schoon glas te krijgen. Teleurstellende ervaring, Mc.Donalds is schoner, beter en sneller. Erg jammer.

Breakfast was disgusting!!!! Eggs snotty,bacon not cooked,sausages not cooked,black pudding was like mash potato n not cooked!! Orange juice was about the only good bit.when checked out they said its the way their taught to cook........well next time turn ya cookers on!!!!!

A friend and I visited for a roast. I can honestly say it was the worst meal I’ve ever had. When my meal arrived, there was a very obvious black hair in my lunch. I complained and they brought me a fresh meal. The meal wasn’t hot or even luke warm. The potatoes were supposed to be roasted but don’t think they’d seen the oven and were in fact inedible Would I visit again… DEFINITELY NOT!!!

Our 12 strong cycling group had booked a table for Thursday 24 August early morning after our arrival at Harwich Ferry Port. We had just completed 4 days of cycling in France, Belgium and Holland and the breakfast was just what we needed as we faced the cycle back to Redbridge, Essex. Liam and Melina were brilliant to reserving a lovely space for the group to relive adventures of the last few days and also to fuel up for the last push home. Nothing was too much trouble for them and we would definitely recommend and return again. Thank you very much.

Ordered food with Andy, whom has extremely good customer service skills - this was both with myself & the other customers. Andy also asked every customer about allergies. Food came out within 10 minutes, delivered by Samona who was also lovely, ensuring I had the condiments I wanted. Compliments to the chefs - I ordered the 7oz Gammon with Chips and Sausage with Mash for myself. Both were perfectly cooked, would recommend. Ate them too quickly to think about taking photos but both meals were presented beautifully.

Food was not bad. Cheap with a deal. Wait time quite a lot but we did not care, we had time enough luckily.

Breakfast was great nice and fresh dinners are spot on. Staff is what makes this place and why i stay and have done for the past year or so. Every member of staff I've had the privilege of learning there names as they are so clear and polite and hardworking and go above and beyond to meet your every needs. OK, so I know this isn't going to be fine dining. But it was grim from beginning to end. Full of ramaging children, the place is not at all clean, staff not really bothered. This chain of restaurants is currently or about to be sold off and it shows. Food was equally bad, no point in complaining as staff would not have cared and it was hard to know where to begin with the faults. To be avoided.

We were welcomed and served by a really friendly guy. I shared my allergy card with him and he ensured that the information on this was shared with the kitchen staff. He also made sure that the table and cutlery were additionally allergy cleaned. His attentiveness and allergy awareness meant that I could relax and enjoy the meal and we had a really good time for a bargain price. We'd definitely eat here again. Thanks to the amazing staff

Popped in this morning about 0930, was not too busy, seated anywhere we wanted. 2 staff serving they seemed to work well together. Both pleasant and chatty. Reece I think. was very calm, professional. Sharon I think, had every under control and very helpful. Food was hot when served. Good quality sausages! Lots of carbs to choose from I had toast & a American pancake. Lots of topping to choose from. Can't go wrong for under £10 a head for a buffet & cooked breakfast. Coffees also good quality.

Disappointing. Food was really disappointing. It seemed a long wait. The loaded fries were luke warm. The mock tails were disappointing. Not really as described. Chicken wings did not come with any veg as described in the menu. Just not great.

Massive shout out to Reece (shift Manager) and Mellisa today and of course the chefs on shift on Wednesday 3rd may at 2pm, we was seated by Reece who was really friendly and seated us asked about allergy’s and informed us the three dishes that was unavailable however when we sat down we had a table or 4 next to us and a table of two across from us mentioning how long food was taken so we was a little concerned he informed them then they had been waiting 20 mins since ticket was taken, which isn’t unreasonable at all they got quite rude and said they wanted to leave but Reece handled it very professionally and carried on with his friendly service with a smile Mellisa was also very friendly and professional asking if we was okay before during and after the meal.. We waited 15 minutes for food which was super good the food was tasty and hot too two meals for £9.99 plus. unlimited drinks for extra £3 a person is a absolute bargain so massive thanks to the chefs aswell food was stunning
