Good place to watch the footie, pints are a bit on the pricey side but staff are very friendly, Joe and Cyd were great

I had a great time at The Holly Bush, drinks and food are great and the staff were amazing. Extra thanks to indi for the service and knowledge of the world as we were discussing places to go and he suggested some great ideas and great service.

Love this place!! Despite not living round here it’s close to where I work and I come here often. The staff are brilliant especially Dan and Chelsea. Would recommend if you ever fancy a pint or ten in Loughton!

Have been watching the rugby at The Hollybush and it has been amazing. They have the commentary on, great selection of beers and the staff are all lovely and very accommodating.

Not an abitual customer of this pub, looks a bit empty and cold, service was good and drinks OK.

I like the staff who were very friendly but if you want a nice evening chatting with friends this is not a good pub. The music was so loud that it was very uncomfortable!!!! You could not hold a conversation without shouting.

bad service, with a lot of arrogance

Myself and my two daughters took my elderly Mum who is disabled with Dementia for lunch. The staff were so friendly and spent time chatting to Mum. The food & service was great. We were made so welcome and they provided board games for my two grandsons. We had a lovely afternoon and will definitely come back again.

Ok pub, did not have my ID with me on Sunday... (I'm 46 BTW), so could get in. Question for the manager. Photo ID on a Sunday afternoon? Why? One it makes your place look like it has trouble. Two, it's Sunday afternoon in Loughton? What's the point of this, totally wasting your money having a bouncer outside your pub! I mean adults are bringing kids in there... toddlers etc... so I take it must all be fine in there...again, what are you thinking!

Been here before for lunch and drinks and it’s not bad, sadly the veggie breakfast was. Few items were missing and not told when ordered (no butter for toast - eating dry toast is not easy haha, no hash browns) but we were given an extra sausage but would have been good to know when ordering. Strange mix of cold and over cooked, cold toast, and beans and burnt fried eggs and mushrooms. On the positive… friendly staff, dog friendly and dog water bowl and bones, also cheap - just skip for breakfast 😂

Great food from Chelsea. Everyone loves her food. Sophie was on the bar and as always gave great efficient service.

During my last two visits chelsea was in the kitchen and it was the best food i have had in all the years i have been coming to the pub. Great service from the rest of the staff as always. Sean

During the euros we went out to this pub to enjoy a football match between Romania vs Belgium , however, they wouldn’t turn on the sound as the staff expressed “english fans are not interested”. Pathetic

Always enjoyed the hollybush. Been going for years. It used to be a absolute brilliant night out on weekends but it's slowed down alot over the years. Over priced alcohol Sticky floors Grotty toilets.

I’ve been drinking in this pub for 30 years but now I need ID to get in. Ridiculous imo. Drink elsewhere now which is a shame

Needs new management. They sell to underage kids. Door staff are very hands on. Manager dont care about the law just cares about profit. Drugs are taken and sold on the premises. Also most reviews are pid reviews.

Generally a pleasant pub, but the noise levels can be difficult to cope with at times. The music is so loud that everyone has to shout at the top of their voices, which causes even more noise!! The staff are lovely, and the atmosphere is relaxed. Occasional ‘a yobby’ element especially on football nights. The food is pretty standard for a pub. Same menu for years however. A few new items would be appreciated.

We are regulars at the quiz night on Sunday and despite the fact that Question One put on a good quiz,with a great quizmaster,the experience has become less than enjoyable.The P.A. system doesn't work,the music on arrival is excessively loud,and there is usually a big overspill of people in to watch the late football game,who also create a lot of noise,and continue to do so throughout the quiz which doesn't help the thought processes of those that wish to play.Maybe management could request that those not participating could stay on the other side of the pub,and also turn the loud music off 15 minutes prior to the commencement of the quiz.Alternatively look towards holding the quiz on another night,when there are no sporting fixtures.The staff are helpful and obliging,so I hope one of them will read this.

I have drank in this pub a few times in the past 6 months and never found a problem with it until Friday actually thought it was a a really lovely place to drink!! Anyway on Friday just gone I had some shopping and had asked the barmaids if I could leave my bags with them as I didn’t want to carry them out to their smoking area where I was sitting thinking they would be ok there! How wrong was I!! stupid me!! I had just been to the local sainsbury and bought some shopping in the area and had bought a packet of cigarettes which I had put in one of the bags that I had left with the barmaid, when I went to get my bags to get my packet of cigarettes back they had gone!! When I asked the manager he more or less just smirked in my face as if he knew, so from this I will never go back in this pub again. And I’m never one to moan or leave a review anywhere!!

Hollybush do the BEST nachos, TV in garden area and never too busy (unless there’s football) if you want a seat during football matches I would recommend booking

smells, staff are gormless and don't want to be there clearly. really weird customer clientele?! just not a nice place its full of kids who think they are extra special tough guys. food is frozen and heated up.

Nice pub but the loud music very early in the evening finished it for our party. We had a couple of drinks but then left.

We stopped by for lunch and loved it. The food was delicious, the staff was friendly and kind, and the space was wonderful. We ordered the BBQ chicken wrap as well as the vegan version of it and each loved what we ordered. The BBQ sauce was perfectly smoky, and the pseudo chicken was crispy. We saw that they had a variety of boardgames for customers to play, and their outdoor area looked inviting despite the rain.

Popped in to get out of the rain, friendly bar staff, well presented bar, and can recommend the mild. Next time I'll grab some breakfast there.

Me and my friend came to the Holly bush for catch up drinks. We had a great night. The service was fab and the drink selection and prices were reasonable. The pub decor and layout was great and there was a great atmosphere too. We also enjoyed the music they played although it may have been slightly too loud so we were having to shout to hear each other at times, but we understand it was a busy Friday night so to be expected. I thoroughly enjoyed my evening here and would definitely go again.

We have just enjoyed a family lunch-our first time here and must say what a lovely meal it was with very friendly and helpful staff. While organising the beach party the manager gave my delighted 3 year old grandson one of the beach balls to play with and the bar staff gave him a flower garland, children friendly, we’ll definitely be back!! Thank you

Staff are all lovely people. Delicious food especially the wings and sour cream slaw. Burgers are always a good choice here. Also pleased that the bar stocks Peroni 0.0% for the designated driver! Only one thing that was a minor concern was that we chose the option in the ordering system to have the meal separated into starters and mains but all the food was delivered together.

Fantastic food (so good I didn’t take a picture) and a great service from the staff on a Saturday afternoon.

Brilliant. They let the dog in - she’s a big dog (American bulldog). The food was average a bit expensive for what you get in my opinion. But drinks are decently priced but being allowed to bring the pooch in has swayed me to the 5* rating. Defo recommend

My first time in this pub and I was pleasantly surprised. Its quite different to many of the pubs in the area, it has more of an urban feel to it and industrial and quirky decor. We had some really good burgers which really tasted properly homemade with ingredients like kimchi. The bbq fries were really delicious and the bar man was very nice and friendly. Will be returning soon, it's even for an afternoon coffee.

The Hollybush in Loughton is a great pub, the atmosphere on the weekend is phenomenal and the late night entertainment they get in is brilliant. From 80's music night to karaoke, it is worth a visit. The staff there are super friendly as well, especially Joe who provided great service behind the bar but also helped sort out any problem we had. Great laugh and a top lad.

Great entertainment provided here, with exceptional service given to me from Joe in particular.

The pub is nice, but my experience was made by cydney. She had great understanding of the menu inside and out and was very friendly!

The staff and food were absolutely lovely, I had the Korean bbq burger which hit the spot perfectly and I was served by a very friendly and polite young man named Josh! Will definitely be coming again soon!

Happy to update my review from four years ago Dan. Great service, great prices, served by Cyd who was just perfect. Well done on turning this place around. I still find the seating a bit uncomfortable but I can live with that.

The food was tasty and the Birra Moretti was fresh. The atmosphere in the pub was buzzing. There was very friendly and efficient service at the bar, his name was Josh. Recommend going there for a sports game.

Was in there last night 13/1/2023 wetting the babies head , with a few friends , the father definitely had a few but wasn’t causing and fuss , we reserved a area , most of us are in our 40 some young , when the father of the baby had his beer (full pint ) taken by the barmaid , when I asked why , she told me that he’d had enough , ok I said what about a refund as pints are not cheap , no she said , then called over the over zealous bouncers , who asked us the remove him , we told him the situation , they said if we don’t remove they will , it really wasn’t the best , anyway there were over 16 of us , needless to say none of us will ever be setting foot in the holly bush again - a great business decision, good luck for the small future- dreadful place !!

Fantastic. Held my sister's baby shower there, they couldn't have been more helpful. The staff were amazing and the food was delicious. Definitely recommended it.

Standard pub. Quiet during the week. Just over a fiver for a pint. Edit to respond to owner: I don't think you need to improve... You are what you are... a pub.... nothing more, nothing less. Did the job for us for a mid week drink.

I had an accident and spent seven months in hospital. I came home a month ago and went to my old local. Mainly new staff, although Dan the manager, Chelsea, Joe and the team have been great and the staff are very polite and helpful by offering to carrying my drink out and opening the disabled toilet. They show lots of sports on the TVs including football, horse racing, cricket & others. It can be busy at times, though go in when it is quieter due to the risk of falling. Today was a bank holiday and lots of burgers etc were being delivered to the patioed garden area. They are dearer than the local Wetherspoons, though think that everywhere is! All in all a great visit. The only thing that could be added is a rail between the stairs with a ramp as you need to get down three steps if from the garden to go to the loo if accessing the back entrance! (If you have a disability). I rated this place 5 stars because of the staff. The company needs to take my review into consideration, or look at it with regards to people with physical disabilities. It's new to me since coming home and I hope that the head office takes action. If all you have to do is put in a rail on a three metre width staircase, it's not much.

Great place and great atmosphere, good for sports events

Nice friendly atmosphere and great staff, unfortunately the food has taken a turn for the worse, dry flavourless burger on my last couple of visits, a shame as they offer gluten free options which in Loughton are few and far between.

After a 250 drive from Lancashire. We parked up and went in The Hollybush to meet our son and had a very friendly greeting then had a very tasty meal with a nice cool beer. Definitely first stop next time we are down there.

After doing a few reviews for my holidays in Cornwall thought I would carry on with my locals great place easy access from smarts Lane and High Road. Proper local to me.

Both Chelsea and Sophie were great, amazing service and friendly, the pub is a fantastic venue to chill out, watch sport or meet with friends. Amazing vibe and chilled out venue.

Friendly local pub with Sky Sports, food, food selection of beers / ales and a very decent sized beer-garden. Very busy and vibrant on Friday and Saturday nights with young adults.

Awful don’t recommend, service is awful, bouncers are rude. Don’t even deserve one star. Will never be going back
