Fish and Eels in Epping Forest

Manager was anything other than a manager. RUDE to customers and staff. Distinct lack of professionalism. Food was late and cold. They were clearly understaffed which can't always be helped. However, there was no check back on the table for food, gave up waiting for a server and dessert menus. The general experience was terrible and we won't be returning

Visited as the Fish and Eels has Vegan options on the menu. Started with soup of the day, tomato and red pepper. Very tasty and thick, with bread to dunk in the soup. Only complaint was that it should have been served hotter. A delay in bringing it from the kitchen? My main was the haddock and spinach fishcakes. Good without being spectacular. Vegan burger was a generous portion and looked very enjoyable.

Never disappointed when I visit, whatever the occasion, be it a drink, lunch, dinner or to celebrate a special event. Today celebrating a birthday. We received a warm friendly greeting. Had a nice table by the fire. I was served by Lily, her service was excellent, warm, friendly and prompt. She always has a smile and makes you feel at home, with a nothing is too much trouble attitude, first class. Thanks to the chef, all the food was delicious. We all had a great lunch and look forward to our next visit!

Steak, is very not easy to eat, last place when I can eat steak,

A very poor experience. The venue was apparently closing for refurbishment therefore the menu was severely depleted!!! If we had known that we would have chosen a more open venue to celebrate our birthday party of 7. Not impressed at all.

I went there new years eve I ordered prawn cocktail which was ok, then my main meal of rib eye steak ( Well done) it was served to me rare to medium I sent it back and after half hour waiting to which all my other party had now finished theirs it come back still very much under cooked disgusting how a chef can't cook steak properly to their customers requirements my desert was apple & mince custard which was cold the the singer was rubbish they didn't clear the table without being asked to do so, I asked to see the manager he never come to see me the evening was a disaster for me and will never return to that pub again

I had lunch with family just before Christmas but have not got round to reviewing - I called the day before as two of out party had mobility issues and also I wanted to take my well behaved dog with me and I thought that this may be a challenge given pre Christmas - I was reassured that a table could be provided that would meet my needs and my dog would be welcome. When we got there the experience was excellent from start to finish - Great access ( which was super important for my family) and we were all made to feel really welcome and looked after especially the dog! Food was great well presented and good value - We wanted a long lazy lunch to have a good catch up and we were not rushed - and all the staff were friendly and sensitive to our needs - A great visit - well done

Not impressed at all. first drinks ordered were incorrect then waited ages for starters to arrive. then waited a long time for mains and when arrived was only warm, chicken breast in the curry was overcooked and dry! And the beetroot houmous served with the skewers was dry and hard. ordered mini coffee and deserts, coffees arrived without deserts and we had to ask for them for them again.

Brilliant lunch out, delicious food and service. Our server (Izzie) was brilliant and made sure we were well looked after.

Izzie was out our waitress, and a fantastic job she did. Very polite, friendly and was very attentive. Food was ok. Manager I find strange in fact, I find him rude to staff. I also had a conversation with him prior to Xmas over tables and he was very dismissive.

Lyly served us today and she was amazing. She went above and beyond to make our visit lovely. We really appreciated it.

We have come to the fish and eels many times and have absolutely loved the food and service! Tonight my boyfriend and I took both families out for a meal and was served by Izzy an extremely friendly, kind and helpful waitress who really made our night the best it can be. A male manager in a checkered shirt who we didn’t catch name of also made our night fantastic with his humour and great service. The staff at this place are honestly fantastic, as well as the food! We will be back very often!!

We use the fish and eels frequently however even if you order the same meal it is pot luck as to how it comes up.

Found the best seat in the house, right next to the open fire on a frosty day. Beautiful decor, pleasant atmosphere and delicious food. I could have stayed all day happily, so cosy. Can’t wait to return and explore the walking paths around.

The food was really nice … once it arrived. They seem to not have enough staff as it took ages for seating , menus , orders made , food arrived, second of round of drinks deserted and coffee to order and then to arrive. This was a on a not very busy Saturday and the staff attending were continually running around.

We were served today by our waitress Natalie and she made sure we had everything we needed but also helped us with activating our dining out card it is a shame their is only 5 stars we can award ,will definitely come again

Very hit and miss. Some meals are great but it seems there is always one that is not good when there are more than two people dining. It's lovely and close for us and we would eat regularly, well at least once a month if only we could rely on a decent meal every time. The staff are mainly good and the surroundings are lovely. It feels like the meals are pre-prepared/bought in and cooked on the premises rather than prepared and cooked from scratch. I know it's not possible to do everything from scratch but the main meals should be done that way. Some starters and some deserts can be bought in but surely the mains should be prepared and cooked to order!

Had a very enjoyable evening, celebrating a friend’s birthday, good food and service throughout the evening. The two main waiting staff, Jake and a young lady, were admirable, and the only minor negative point was that the coffee I had at the end of the evening was a little weak and flavourless. Jolly good overall, I would recommend this establishment.

Had a take away tonight, guess the chef was off. Beef bourgingnon was small, end of day 2 carrots and tender stem, the full meal only covered half a dinner plate, not great. Also had the fish cakes, lacked any flavour and they were cooked to death, very disappointed overall.

Our favourite pub in the area. Very friendly staff, excellent food, dog friendly, really modern decor and very good service.

TERRIBLE SERVICE-While waiting to be seated with a newborn and young child, no staff member acknowledged our presence. We had to ask a barman working, only to be told that someone would be with us momentarily. Ten minutes later, we were still waiting and had to politely request assistance again before finally being shown to our table. By this point, we should have left. The food took over an hour to come and both the chicken and the beef Wellington were extremely dry. We had to request extra gravy from three different waitresses, to make the meal better, but, unfortunately, the extra gravy never arrived, further highlighting the poor service. We then brought this issue to the attention of the barman, who was dismissive and unapologetic. Throughout the entire experience, he demonstrated a complete lack of concern for customer satisfaction.

Had Christmas lunch here today . Beautiful food , we were not rushed at all . The food was beautiful, and there was a lovely Christmas atmosphere. Lovely attentive staff and excellent service from Chelsea Well done all of you , we will back next year

Chelsea was absolutely brilliant today serving us for our Christmas Day meal. Polite, friendly, even helped encourage our youngest to finish her meal before desert. what a real delight to have her serving us today, she is a credit to The Fish & Eels. Happy Christmas Chelsea thank you for making today even more wonderful for us :) xx

Warm and inviting environment. Service was quite slow for the amount of customers in the pub. Food was okay but pricy. Would be nice to see an actual lunch menu at more competitive prices . If we had more time we would have chosen to visit one of other local pubs .

Yet another visit to this beautiful pub. We were served by Jess with efficiency & her lovely smile. We had the Christmas menu. Mine was a veggie Wellington with all all the works. My friend had the steak. We enjoyed our meal.

Ethan and the staff were top notch, looked after us and my 2 week old baby in a perfect little cubby hole table over the christmas period, felt really nice!
