We are very fortunate to eat out quite frequently. This was my first visit to The Paper Mills, but we have found that the best pubs/restaurants are those where 1) the food is interesting (most places do good food these days, but a place that just does fish and chips and burgers is not as noteworthy as one where the chef has gone the extra mile - not knocking fish and chips - have it frequently - but like to have the choice) 2) the staff are interested (human beings who have personality and clearly enjoy their job and make you welcome) 3) the ambience makes it a fun place to visit Well, the Paper Mills excels in all three. A fab “manager” (?) who couldn’t have made us more welcome, a really interesting menu (with the best Roast Lamb I have had for a very long time), and a welcoming for our dog, our 2-year old Granddaughter and heavily pregnant daughter. And the pub itself is lovely - the football was on the TV (but not in an intrusive way), the log burner was roaring, and it was just a lively place, but still perfect for a family Mothers Day lunch. We will be back - top drawer in every department!

Very pleasant pub with cheerful and welcoming bar staff. A good range of beers and at present the pub is open from late morning to 1045 pm. We only went for refreshments so I can't speak about the food, but I have no problem in recommending The Paper Mills.

We want to take a minute to recommend The Paper Mills in Wandsworth for their roast dinners. We've been 3 times now in groups ranging from 7 to 2 people. Each time the team there have been great - very friendly and accommodating. The food is consistently excellent and the meat inparticular is AMAZING. I've got to the point where I pay extra to have both the belly pork and the beef because I don't want to choose either! A big thumbs up from us, we wouldn't shout about somewhere we know couldn't always back it up! Proper country spot with fantastic food and warm atmosphere 👍👍👍👍

This place is awesome and always great service. I made the huge mistake of changing venues so me and the Mrs and our two friends could try elsewhere, The Cuckoo at Alwalton and my word what a dire service we got. Wished we hadn’t changed venues. Straight back to The Paper Mills next time we meet up for Sunday lunch. Sorry for going elsewhere this time.

Came here for lunch on a Saturday as we wanted a late lunch and most places stopped serving food at 2pm. Dog friendly in the bar and gardens, they made us and our large labradoodle very welcome, bringing over dog biscuits to welcome him ( they asked if it was OK first). Decent selection of pub grub, chips were freshly made, hot and crispy, perfect. The men had burgers, I chose the catch of the day. Seabass fillet on crushed potatoes with shredded cabbage, samphire and a lobster sauce with a very tasty garnish on the fish. The flavours worked together well and, the fish was perfectly cooked, succulent and tender, and it was all beautifully presented. Delicious. Head over the bridge on the same road, just about 100 yards away, and there's a Riverside footpath to your left, perfect for a post meal dog walk!

Having visited a few time over the past year or so, it appears to have gone “down hill” . We didn’t eat on this occasion, instead having a couple of beers in the garden. The garden/patio area clearly has not had any attention in weeks. Weeds growing through the paving, dog ends here and there. Empty sauce sachets laying around , over flowing ash trays, and a motorcycle parked in among the covered area. Drain rods and traffic cones dotted around the place. Why??? This used to be a good place , and probably still is . Attention to detail!!

After a shopping trip on our way home we decided to stop off at the Paper Mills for a very light lunch. The menu we received was Main Course Lunch menu which we felt was quite expensive for what it was and for a pub lunch. We both went for fish and chips which was really more than we wanted to eat but felt we should have something once in there. There were about half a dozen others in at the time.We had two drinks a larger for my husband and I had a Sparkling water just under £6! The atmosphere was quite cold as there were so few people in there. Service aWas friendly and we didn't have to wait too long for the food. I thought the fish was tasty but my husband could finish his.Other pubs in the neighbourhood have excellent deals on for lunch during the week our favourite over the border in Rutland does fish and chips for two for £12, less than one costs at The Paper Mills.

Eaten here last one year ago and had a great steak. And also many times in past years - when this pub had an excellent reputation for its excellent steak. This week we both ordered a Rib Eye. The steak served looked much like a thin New york Strip (that had been bashed flat to tenderise though was in fact coarse and gristly). Very disappointing, and I felt somewhat cheated for the best part of £50.The accompanying blue cheese sauce was however delightful. In Wansford for a romantic evening and so didn't make a fuss, but definitely will avoid in future and cannot recommend anymore. What has gone wrong - this used to be such a good place to eat?Staff by the way were very good.

Time ago this was a very good eating place. We had not visited for a while and we are left wondering how they dare serve up such poor quality food. We both ordered 'roasted belly pork' which was a flaccid rasher, which I presume to have been boiled so no crackling, stringy Chinese type vegetable, which was hard to chew and swallow and a side dish of spinach which contained grit. I asked for some English mustard, which was brought in a plastic upside down bottle - this is not a 'greasy spoon' establishment and they should have known better. The sticky toffee pudding was OK because I think it was from a catering pack.

Menu is the same whether you dine in the restaurant or the main bar (I advise the restaurant, if you want to be comfortable). This is an old coaching Inn, nice atmosphere, but the floors are a bit un even in the bar, so the tables are a bit hard to eat from.Food selection is fresh and good, staff are friendly, and the fire is lovely when it's going........... bit of a shame that in December it wasn't, and would have really added some Christmas cheer to the proceedings as the decorations are a bit sparse. Having said that, this is a good foodie pub.

We were a small group looking for dinner. We had a round of drinks before being seated. The pub Has been refurbished to a good standard and they have created a very nice environment. The menu had good choice and I started with prawns that were excellent, followed by a very enjoyable Ribeye with proper chunky chips. I could not fault the food, but the service was a bit hit or miss. The order was taken after a bit of a wait, we were told there was no wine menu, but the waitress advised of some wines and we went for the Malbec. We did not get asked how many bottles we wanted and she just came back with one that was left on the table. It was quite a quiet evening so I wondered how it would flow with a busy night. Having delivered the food and wine the serving staff just disappeared. There was no attempt to ask if we wanted more drinks, but having removed the dishes they asked if we wanted dessert or coffee. We paid at the bar as we did not see them again.Shame really as the pub is very nice, the food is outstanding, and with better service this would be excellent.

This is a really strange little pub/restaurant. My partner and I have eaten here on various different occasions and have enjoyed the food, but the service can be so hit and miss. We visited the paper mills on a weekday night as neither of us could be bothered to cook! And I really can't moan about the food - but we waited for such a long time to be served, I believe the people in the bar area get priority! We then waited so long for the food and when we asked for the bill my partner and I got bored waiting we went to the bar to pay and there were 3 staff members huddles around the computer ironically reading trip advisor reviews. Each time we have been we have seen different faces so I get the impression there is a high turn over of staff! A massive shame as the front of house lets down a great kitchen.

We ate on a Friday night after I'd done a long week at work, thinking that we'd got a carvery/Beefeater type restaurant and were surprisingly pleased by a good if not monstrous menu. Service was a trifle slow but the restaurant was vey busy so not a real failing. My wife ordered Fish & Chips and the waitress informed that the fish wasn't a single piece but goujons, which surprised her as she'd sworn she'd seen other plates served as one piece; when it arrived, it was easy to see how she was mistaken - these were no miniscule, thumb-sized bitelets, but proper, chunky portions in fantastic, crispy light batter, and plenty of them accompanied by proper chips. My wife declared it the best F & C she'd had in eons, and my Bass fillets were equally enjoyable. The leek & potato soup starter was also excellent, albeit my wife thought it a little spicy for her taste Portions were such that there was no room for pud - say no more.A little expensive (£6.50 for soup) but you get what you've paid for. Passes the acid test of "would you go again?" easily.

The Paper Mills in Wansford has always been one of my favourite places, I live locally and I am a regular customer. The food is just as good - if you can get it but the service is not bad, it is nonexsistant.Called in about a month ago on a very quiet Tuesday evening only to be told the kitchen was too busy and we wouldn't be able to get any food.I looked at the handful of locals propping up the bar and walked out bemused.Thinking that this might be a one-off I went again last week with my wife.We we told that waiting time was about an hour. No wiorries, we said we would take a table in the garden as it was a sunny evening.Another couple sat down just after us. While waiting my wife enquired after bread and olives and was told that had we taken a table inside we would be served bread and olives but they would not bring them to an outside table. We got our food eventually. The other poor couple were told that they couldn't see a menu for half an hour, long after this they were approached by a waitress to take their order, when the explained that they hadn't been given a menu yet the waitress was so offensive that they got up and quietly walked out.To see a place go down hill so quickly is a real shame.A couple of months ago all the staff were well turned out in matching style but now they look like a bunch of scruffs with no regard to the customers.

Absolutely appalling service - the staff were too busy socialising with each other to be bothered. But when they did bother they were patronising and insolent. The food took ages, the vegetables were either boiled to death or rock hard, the potatoes were several hours past their best and denture-menacingly hard. A poorer than average roast for higher than average price.

I asked for a condiment and it didn’t come so had to ask again and for one or two other things. All staff are willing but it became a little bit disjointed and incoherent. I didn’t see anyone keeping them focussed and this could be slightly better. Our food was excellent. We loved it all and the wines are also good. All in all very nice experience and we are looking forward to coming back.
