A group of six of us ate Sunday roasts here this past weekend. Had all the meat choices between us and everyone loved it. The portions are big, meats were all well seasoned and not overcooked, and the trimmings were all good. Special shoutout for the red cabbage which tasted smoked. Best pub roast i’ve had in a long time. We’ll definitely be back. The service was also on point, and staff were friendly despite the added stress of the point of sale systems playing up that day due to internet problems.

Four of us the roast lunch, unfortunately the food was very substandard. The thinly sliced meat (I tried the lamb, pork and beef) tasted like the pre packed sort, the broccoli was very overcooked and soggy, the roast potatoes were very hard and dried out, the rest was ok ish. The service was excellent, really friendly and attentive. However, I couldn't recommend the pub and won't be going back.

Dropped in here for an early dinner before catching the Ferry for Hook of Holland. Mrs M had the crab linguini, my son had Nuss (dogfish and I had the pork belly. The food was amazing, served hot and required no seasoning. The bar and waiting staff were very pleasant and the beer was very good as well. Will certainly eat here again when next sailing to the continent. A good start to the holidays

Best fish and chip shop in Aldeburgh. Had freshly cooked scampi and a medium cod, both with chips. The cod was so tasty and cooked in a light batter. Chips good and not too greasy. Always good to buy from here and eat on the sea wall by the beach. Good value for money.

I used to be a frequent visitor to the five bells when Caroline and Darren ran it. They Used to pride themselves on good food and ales. Admittedly, not the cheapest, but you were getting quality. The pub today just seems unloved, had a pint of Brixton lager which was off. Had to swap it for ale which was not much better. Pub is now mostly mass produced lagers It’s a shame the pub is not what it used to be or have the owners it deserves. Believe it’s owned by a chain?. Sorry….. just seen the pub at its best and it feels like a pub that’s lost its soul.
