Please be aware this pub has been closed since late August 2024. The brewery is apparently looking for new tenants. (Great pub when it was open!)

Nice chap serving but not good food. Only if you like "re-heateries". Food not freshly made on site (it should be specified on the menu!), everything either from frozen (gratin dauphinois cube!) or ready meals. Industrial, processed tasteless food quality. Salty sauces. We can cook and can tell the difference. Difficult to digest. Expensive for what it is.

Welcoming and cosy local gem that mixes the traditional English pub and the contemporary gastropub effortlessly well. Best Sunday roast I have ever eaten in a pub! Very busy "old fashioned" pub serving all the usual plus some very good ales. The dining area is small with limited tables so I advise booking. The food was excellent, hot and presented well. Traditional pub but you need to add words like "eclectic" or "quirky", meant in a positive way. What are described as sandwiches on the menu may look a bit on the expensive side but they are in fact open sandwiches and are a decent light meal, and delicious. Great value. Very welcoming staff, also towards dogs. Lot of positive reviews - well deserved, can't fault the place.

Dropped in for lunch to this friendly pub whilst on a day visit to st Ives. Beer was excellent (though Timothy Taylor for us both) Even let me check if it was ok as was first pint of the day! Excellent. Too often not done and the beer is stale. Hubby had Asian prawn dish on a sourdough. Was very nice. I had bang bang chicken - small plate. (6 chunky chicken wings covered in a crispy batter). Very nice but very filling. We also shared portion of Parmesan and truffle oil chips. Wow. Fantastic but far too much for us old folk to finish. Will definitely go there again on our next visit!

I dropped by for a spot of lunch and wasn't disappointed. The welcome I got from the staff on duty was warm and frienfly and nothing was too much trouble.I ordered the Spring Chicken dish which was delicious and good value for money...my only criticism was that it could have done with a little more seasonal greens to balance the dish. The atmosphere in this cosy pub was ambient and the decor is attractively quirky.A great place for both a drink stop or a bite to eat from the eclectic menu with something for all tastes.I would definitely recommend.

Called in as was close by. Firstly met by polite, friendly staff who welcomed us with our little dog. We were shown the choices of menu and options. My wife had the 3 course £20 lunch option. For starters it was tempura coated vegetables with a katsu dip that was superb. It said it was a small plate but it certainly wasn't! Fresh, hot, beautiful tempura batter covered broccoli stems, aubergine, peppers, courgettes etc. Her main course was corn fed chicken supreme with fresh veg and dauphinoise potatoes. Again, a good sized portion of hot, fresh food. Her choice of dessert was cheesecake but she was so full she brought it home. Again, rather than just a lump of cheesecake, it came with fresh fruit. Lovely! My choice was a Vietnamese chicken curry which again was piping hot and tasty. The young men behind the bar and who served were polite and friendly. Not a massive menu choice but reasonably priced. Well worth a visit!

We came here for lunch and the food was amazing. My wife and I split the sausage roll and steak skewer appetizers, the steak rigatoni, and some kind of pudding. The steak skewer was probably the best thing we ate while visiting England. The two young ladies that served us gave us probably the best service on our visit, but I did not tip them. We were really confused about the tipping situation as some places add it automatically, while others just declined the tip before I had a chance to add one, and some are supposed to be done in cash. These young ladies earned a nice tip and I did not give them one and I apologize for that. We will definitely come back on our next visit.

Lovely pub and beer selection just a shame a member of the bar staff was rude. After ordering a selection of around 7 lagers and a Gin and tonic, I ran the drinks out to the garden to my friends. On my return needed to add a Guinness to the order in which the bar staff reacted with an eye role and big sigh. When asked what the problem was the staff member reacted with a sarcastic and blunt… “just for future reference, bar staff prefer Guinness to be ordered at the start of a round” Yes I agree, a Guinness should be ordered at the start of a round to settle but I don’t feel the snide comment and reaction was necessary when ordering. It didn’t effect the staff member and I was happy to wait for it settle.

Very accommodating, especially as a group of 7 turning up without a booking. 2 young children as part of the group, although no kids menu advertised they can offer any of the main menu options as children’s size and to their taste. The food was cooked well and came out quite quickly, really useful as the kids were restless. All other clientele were very patient with our youngest going and saying hi to them all.

I was very disappointed with the food here. Two in our group had the fish chips and mushy peas dinner. For a start the fish was awful, the mushy peas were crushed garden peas, and the chips had skin on which I hate. They also didn't look appealing at all. The other person that had the fish meal was ill all that night after eating it. If they going to serve crushed peas and skin on chips they should say it on their menu. I hardly ate any of my dinner a waste of £15 pounds. The others in the group ordered a pasta dish cause it was recommended. The potion size was so small and the beef strips was like eating old boots. Will never go again.

We had intended on visiting back in February, but was unable to, so we decided to make a special trip when we were back in St Ives. We were horrendously disappointed. We ordered the fish and chips, which was advertised as being beer and sesame battered, served with mushy peas and hand cooked chips - They arrived with crushed peas (completely different) and skin on chips which had the consistency of chalk and tasted like dirt. The fish had no flavour at all and was greasy. We also ordered steak rigatoni, which was a special for that day. The meat was so tough that it was unchewable, which left me with approximately ten pieces of pasta... For £15. We left disappointed and very hungry. The only upside were the generous alcohol servings in the cocktails (Despite the absolute extortionate price of £9) and the staff who were lovely, friendly and helpful. If they lowered prices, labelled their food correctly ('Skin on chips' instead of 'hand cooked' and 'crushed peas' instead of 'mushy' which were both incorrect) and improved cooking standards then it would be spot on. Alas, it's overpriced and absolutely not worth it. A shame, as the refurbishment is super beautiful.

When my husband sadly died in late August, there was no need for discussion as to where to hold the Wake ……. obviously it was going to be The Jolly Sailor, Ramsey, David’s preferred drinking place for over 40 years. In his latter years he was even afforded his own seat next to the bar. If someone was in it when he arrived, they were politely requested to move. Stacey, the new Landlady, very thoughtfully placed a photograph of David, together with his pipe and cap, on the seat for the duration of the Wake. Stacey was most helpful and accommodating and arranged a Wake far and beyond my hopes and expectations. On arrival there was a warm and welcoming atmosphere and the food and presentation was exceptional - the quality, variety and amount. Many complimentary comments were made. She, and her wonderful staff kept the table topped up and glasses full unobtrusively and efficiently. In fact they were firstclass throughout. I would wholeheartedly and without reservation recommend this lovely, atmospheric, friendly and welcoming establishment to anyone looking for a venue in which to hold their event. You would have to go a long way to better it.
