My 60th birthday meal with family

Abysmal customer service. We called in for a quick coffee/pint, to which we were told everywhere was booked & after some internal discussions between two waitresses on "where are we going to put them" we advised we would sit outside [although at that moment 2 tables taken, I would be shocked if the whole day's booking arrived in the time it took to drink a cappuccino]. Sat outside, which seemingly annoyed the waitress even more as they had to walk further to us. Asked multiple times to order any second drinks at the same time as they were busy. To put it bluntly, we wanted to leave as soon as we ordered due to the curt and dismissive attitude. There was a bit of a U-turn in attitude, but the visit had already been ruined.

almost certainly the worst customer service I have received… myself, my partner our friend and our daughter came in for a Sunday drink - we were greeted with two members of staff saying ‘well where are we gonna put them?’ when we asked where would be good for us to sit. We offered to sit outside and were told our coffees would be brought out to us. a member of staff came outside with our coffees and shouted ‘could you come and sit down here?’, to which we replied ‘here is fine’ and she muttered ‘not for us, we’re very busy’ it was made clear that if we wanted anything else table service was not an option…! really disappointing after previously good experiences here

Hands down the best calamari rings I have ever had. I would serve with lemon and aioli though.

Attended again recently for my mums birthday and I am happy to say the food has returned back to the high standards from before:) Really good quality meal, very tasty and very well presented, really enjoyable experience.

Family Sunday roast. It was excellent. Quiet enough to speak. The food was good. Small helpings available. We took our own birthday cake which was allowed. Roast potatos had a very tough skin. Cauliflower cheese was a highlight

Another anniversary celebration . Friendly welcome with excellent service, and the menu had good choices. Also, excellent value for money. Obviously popular as it was very busy. We would certainly visit again and recommend it to anyone 👍

Really super food, our 2nd time here now and cant fault food or service, we came just after the lunch rush so was still very busy, and food came in good time, will definitely be back 👍

Our family had an excellent Sunday lunch. Good portions and well cooked. Some of our party opted for lamb or beef which they enjoyed but I had wanted the chicken which unfortunately wasn't available that day, so opted for the nut roast instead which was very good. Good Yorkshire pudding was well cooked and nice to see the sage and onion stuffing ball was actually sage and onion, without minced pork being added, which a lot of other restaurants do, and I personally dislike. I wish those that do add it would state so on the menu without customers having to check.

Today we celebrated my daughters christening and mine and my husbands vow renewal. The service from the windmill has been outstanding. They have accommodated us with every request. The manager stayed open late last night so we could decorate ready for the day, they have dealt with changes of guest, menu choices, every query we have had has been answered quickly. The food was excellent and I am always blown away with the incredibly reasonable cost of the set menu. I could not have asked for better service. The staff are fantastic and Ella the manager is a pleasure, keeping things running smoothly in such a wonderful environment. Thank you for giving us such a special afternoon. I could not recommend the Windmill more! X

Saturday lunch set menu very good and reasonable

I have neen to The Windmill on several occasions.... Food is always lovely and very good value. Great atmosphere and lovely service. No complaints at all.... Will be returning 👍😊

Fantastic food great for the birthday meal

Went to the Windmill for a birthday meal. The table was eloquently decorated and there was a bottle of water and glasses to enjoy whilst awaiting for the rest of the guests to arrive. On the table there was only a set menu and a specials board however, we asked for the a la carte menu which they gave us and had similar variety to the set menu. They had a childrens menu which was very reasonably priced. We started off with some artizan bread and olives, the bread was fresh and very flavoursome served with some olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Was a generous portion and meant for sharing. The food was delightful, the pie of thenweek was steak and Ale and it was filled, the pastry was perfectly cooked and the mash was a chive mash which tasted exquisite and was very smooth. My wife had the Rib-eye steak which came perfectly cooked and was very succulent. Desserts were a good end to the meal. Will happily return there again and although a little pricey, for a nice homely family eat out, it is perfect. Thank you so much. S

We love to visit the windmill for a good catch up with family or friends, the menu nether lets us down and the staff are always the best ever, 10/10 every time we come, today was my wife’s birthday and we were extremely well looked after, we feel that we are valued guest and welcomed in ❤️🙏

Booked for a family birthday lunch at 1.15 The person who actually made the booking was told that we needed to order quickly as they closed at 3.00. I think that an hour and three quarters is not a time to be rushed. I ordered a starter of chicken pate, which when it turned up, I was unsure quite what it was. It was served with some ciabatta bread and an onion chutney.....and no butter. I followed with a chicken and bacon Caesar Salad. Okay, pretty hard to mess up, but it was nothing to dance about. The cheesecake that followed was probably the best part of the meal. That was not saying too much. The pub has many signs outside that advertise it as part of the Greene King chain. My AA app gives a 15% discount at Greene King. When I asked about it, I was told that they don't give discounts. I felt like I was being looked down upon. When I said all Greene King pubs honour the discount, I was told that they were no longer a Greene King house. Well take the signs down then! They miss-lead people! I look for Greene King houses and it is part of why I stay with the AA. All in all, not impressed. I would not visit again, and I feel that they would not want my kind of riff-raff!

A wonderful Saturday lunchtime meal. The set menu is excellent value for money. Thank you to the lovely staff, Ella Katie and Mia. We shall return.

Exceptional service from the moment we arrived. Ella, Katie and the team were so welcoming and attentive. Drinks served quickly and our order taken swiftly despite them being so busy. We all chose from the set menu - great portions, food piping hot and delicious. Such great value with a brilliant wine list for us ladies and the men were happy with their pints of Camden. Overall a wonderful experience from start to finish - highly recommend. Hats off to the chefs also!

First visit will definitely be back again food was excellent and service was good .busy for a Saturday lunch time

Went recently for anniversary meal. Foods always been consistently nice. If it was cheaper I'd visit more regularly but you get what you pay for I guess. Staff are always friendly, noone came to ask "how is everything" mid mouthful so I liked that. Nice selection of beers but definitely dislike the proximity to £6 per pint. Would definitely visit again.

Very nice Sunday lunch for my wife's 40th birthday & they even gave her a little brownie with a candle on! Food is nice & staff are super friendly, what's not to like....

Lovely waitress called Ella made our experience fantastic for our first visit Recommend homemade burger and fish cake .

When here for my Mother-in-laws 70th birthday party While the food was OK the portion sizes were a little small Plus the orders have been checked double checked several times in advance Email Sophie my mother-in-law and the pub to check everything who was having what I ordered lamb and ended up with chicken due to the facts that they hadn't cooked enough lamb had done too much chicken OK the waitress did offer to cook another lamb however I wanted to eat Ruth the rest of the famplease so I just had to check it OK the waitress did offer to cook another lamb however I wanted to eat Ruth the rest of the family so I just had the chicken scewer Nowhere near enough chips Very Alicart tast nice but not enough I got home and had to have a ham sandwich despite having 3 courses i ordered the fairground attraction dessert Yeah which on the menu says it's a sharing dessert well that is if you only want one spoonfulbecause there is nowhere near enough to be a sharing dessert A small candy floss topper a tiny scoop full of ice cream and is really rather nice jelly and fruit combot underneath This review is true as I how I feel

I Went for a birthday lunch today. Every meal was outstanding. This is such a gem of a place food, service, price, decor and atmosphere was all 10/10 ....would definitely recommend and will definitely be returning.....

Lovely place, friendly staff and excellent food at best value on the Set Menu. Only negative is they are not dog friendly, apart from one separate room which has one table in it for 8 people.

Expensive for dinner but would highly recommend going for lunch. 2 courses 16 pounds and the food is outstanding quality with generous portions. Staff are always very lovely and accommodating to our family with young children.

Dinned here as a family of 8, 3 children, 2 parents and grandparents (Gluten free and fussy eaters). The food, service and atmosphere was impeccable. Food arrived fast, drinks were flowing, and friendly service. Portions were great and very reasonably priced. Would go back and recommend.

Very good service and lovely food

Came here after working locally and stumbled across a gem! Waitresses where fantastic and helped me decide my pick. I went for the Mixed Grill (I was hungry!) And was not disappointed. Can't find fault with any part of the meal or the service. Fantastic.

Everything is so tasty, food was delicious,especially the duck! Staff was friendly and good looking too. Men toilet could have been cleaner, but minor issue i would say to all the nice food that we received:) coming back for sure next time.

This is one of my favourite places, cosy and comfortable decor. Service was quick, the staff were friendly. Starters and main course were delicious, we both felt the desserts had room for improvement.

Very good lunch that was tasty and just the correct amount. Sat in the conservatory area which was warm and bright on a cold winter's day. Younger waitress very knowledgeable and cheerful, older waitress never smiled and made you feel like you were an inconvenience. But overall I would definitely visit again.

Beautiful restaurant, but the staff was not overly friendly. Food was ok, some of it very good, other bits not great.

It's ok. Mushrooms on toast were luke warm, meatballs were tough, staff was efficient but not welcoming or friendly (over worked?).

Came with my family who have just moved to Somersham. Excellent value great food and pleasant staff. I think my son and family have already visited several times.

Good but a bit pricey imo - £4 for bread!!! The reduced menu gives cheaper options and it’s a good idea. The food is well cooked and the service and ambience is excellent.

Service was good and the staff friendly. I think my meal (pie of the day) had been left too long under the heat lamps under the pass. The pie crust was rock hard, the mashed potato was forming a crust and the vegetables barely warm, although the gravy warmed them up a bit. Having said that the pie filling was excellent. My wife's salad was good though. Disappointing even given the low price of the lunch menu.

Been there many times food very nice but always feel u are rushed to go after meal waitresses start cleaning tables around u and keep looking at u.Very uncomfortable!!!!.

Updated below - Great food reasonably priced, £18 for 3 courses of the set menu. Fast, friendly service and ample covid precautions in place. Update 14/7/22. Dropped from a 5 to a 2, worst level of customer service I have ever experienced at the windmill, very dismissive and kurt communication from our waitress. When one of our party pointed out a problem with their bread brie (there was no brie in 1 or the 3) the only response was "you can't tell until it's cut open", not the apology we expected. If it wasn't a special birthday meal which we didn't want to spoil we would have made an issue of this. Come the Windmill review your customer service as we know you can do better than this !!

Waited the whole evening for water. Sons steak hadn’t been rested and when he said it wasn’t nice and hadn’t been rested the staff just ignored him. Tried on several occasions to give it another try the last time being today when we were informed they’d finished lunch service at 1.30 pm - THE WEBSITE SAYS LUNCH IS 12-3! Poorly managed restaurant, and no idea of customer service.

Had a wonderful meal here on Friday! The restaurant was very busy and loud but the lovely waitress thoughtfully moved my partner and I to a quieter table. She was ace! Food was delicious, tasty and plentiful 😊 Cider was fizzy and cold. Excellent value too.

We will never eat there again due to their totally unreasonable behaviour with regard to a Mother’s Day booking my son made for 4 of us. He was asked to pay a £40 booking fee which he did. He came home from work unwell later in the week and tested positive for covid a couple of days later. I rang the Windmill to cancel the booking as we had all been in contact with him and I was told he would have to lose his deposit as the food had now been ordered !! I then asked if he could be given a voucher to come when he was well and the person I was speaking to consulted with the owners and they said no sorry it is non refundable. This is the worst customer service I have ever encountered when we didn’t choose for him to be unwell and did what we considered to be the right thing, and it is only Thursday and they have 3 more days to give that booking to away. I have only rated them one star because I cannot give a review if I don’t give a rating I would choose otherwise to give them a resounding minus for communication and being the most unhelpful licensee ever. I must add that they have since had a change of heart and issue my son with a credit note

I have been to the windmill many times, but not for a while. The last time I said never again. On a recent visit we walked in at 1420 and when I asked if we could order a drink, instead of being welcoming we were met with ‘we are, but we close at 3’. No smiles, no niceties and almost the hump because they were getting service 40 minutes before they closed. During the time we were there, the 2 staff members were clearing around us (and turned the lights off in one area) as well as talking loudly about bookings etc. It made a really poor atmosphere. At 1440 I then heard them discussing whether a table had left yet, to which one said to the other to just clean around them, I assume in an attempt to hurry people out. That is the last time I give the place a second chance. It has got no better over the years. So disappointing. Would not recommend.
