I have been going to Eric’s at Thornham since they first opened, it was excellent , but gradually going downhill The batter and chips have changed so much the batter is hard and horrid whereas it used to be so crispy and the fish was so thick and tasty the chips used to be so good Went today was a small piece of fish cooked in hard batter and the chips were white and so soggy I was so dissapointed in today The fish and chips have slowly going downhill I used to love and look forward to going to Eric’s but not anymore I paid for a medium but got a small hard battered piece of fish Sorry but you need to improve your service, it’s not good anymore

Never actually managed to try anything from here as the place was either shut or there was a private function going on. I hear that they are closing the business now which doesn't surprise me, they always seemed more interested in doing social media than actually serving food.

With all of the choices we have these days, you forget how good, old fashioned fish and chips can be. I had a medium code, chips and mushy peas at a very reasonable price and they were all freshly made and cooked to perfection. The staff were helpful and attentive. The only thing that surprised me was how quiet the place was. I was the only customer for about an hour.

Still the best for miles around and well worth the drive from Hartford. One of my first places to eat when I'm ln the UK. It's has changed in some respects, last night the batter on the fish was heavier so didn't go down so well, otherwise a good meal, well worth the travel.

Nice food, tastes like the fish and chips you get from the seaside...service is a bit slow, however, the young lady behind the counter was very friendly and a credit to the company. It's fairly expensive, small portions for the money. A small cod and chips is £9 and consists of a small piece of cod, half of a normal serving...you can see they chopped a medium piece in half, and 2 small scoops of chips. It's nice, but not really worth the £9 they charge. Overall, not a bad place if you're feeling a bit flush and fancy a snack 😂👍

As has always been the case, excellent fish and chips. Let down this evening by the young lady serving. Her attitude was nonchalant when ordering. I was told it was a Muscadet wine available by the glass. It turned out to be an Argentine wine that was far too sweet. (What happened to the lovely, crisp Portuguese white that used to be on offer?) When I mentioned I did not want it because of this it was taken away and plonked none too subtly on the counter nearby with no explanation or apology. I suggested I was expecting a refund and that she might have shown more grace. I went on to point out that I was surrounded by empty tables that needed clearing of dirty plates and food. It was not busy and she had been standing with her back to the hot cupboard for a while, quite unaware. I am assuming it was the manager who gave me the refund at the till. No apology forthcoming there either. Other places offer the same quality food at the same or lower prices. I may give it another go as it has been good in the past, but consistency is key.

We have visited here before and always been disappointed by the service and poor quality of the food - we returned last night having recently had an excellent experience at the Eric's chip shop on the Norfolk coast, a 5 star chippy. The two girls serving couldn't be less interested in us; instead facing the fryer, chatting and singing with the cooks! Eventually we were served but had to wait over 20 mins (fast food?) whilst lots of Deliveroo orders came and went. When i questioned why physical customers were being deprioritised one of the servers was curt, and frankly rude, to me ....her customer! So we stood there, with no interaction from the staff, no music ... nothing. When we eventually got the food and had it home, the chips were satisfactory but our fish (cod and plaice) was over-cooked. We won't be returning here as we ended up angry and having had a bad, yet expensive, meal. Complain to the staff - why? they couldn't care less and there was obviously no real management of the chip shop.

The Haddock, chips and mushy peas are really good, not to bad a price, very good quality for down south, almost as good as being in Yorkshire. Recently visited and found that prices have risen considerably. The fish was still really good, but the peas and curry sauce had shrunk in size but as a side garnish was as expensive as a potion of chips, and the quality of the potatoes seems to be a little bit worse than before. The tea for one was just that so a one cup teapot and a teabag cost over £2.00 with no offer of a free water refill. We all know times are hard and costs are up but sometimes a bit more value for money may go along way to protecting a long term business plan.

In less time than that the order was packed in carriers for us and we returned to camp site to enjoy top quality fish and chips. Having ordered a mixture of both cod and haddock, I had asked that the boxes were marked to help identify the correct fish, although this wasn’t done it did not affect our enjoyment of them. The food was pretty nice although the mushy peas were tasteless as these were not seasoned at all, no salt whatsoever. I could swear that in the past they had salt in them. The fish was nice, I like how your batter is so thin and there is plenty of fish inside but it was super greasy so I wish it had been put on a kitchen towel for say 15 seconds or so, before being put into the box, and I feel that would have helped. Instead when I took it out of the paper bag, it was literally dripping of oil. The battered shrimp were actually horrible. It's all greasy batter and somewhere there there is a tiny shrimp. And so expensive for 3 shrimp! I definitely do not recommend and won't be ordering it ever again. The service, however, wasn't great at all...the person who served me didn't seem to care at all, their face was telling me they didn't want to be there and didn't seem much interested in serving me whatsoever, forget any pleasantries like how are you and thank you. The fried pickle was a nice unique item that tasted great but the chips were bland and gritty, the chicken was dry to the point of not being edible in places, and everything was absolutely swimming in grease. Apparently they use beef dripping which might explain this but it didn't taste any better for it, they certainly didn't taste like other chips I've had fried in dripping. Called at Eric's in St Ives, Cambs Saturday 22nd October at approximately 2.45 pm. Only one other person in premises being served when I entered. Didn't Order online as a click and collect so headed straight for the counter to place my order where I was greeted and placed my order, which was Cod and Chips regular and Cod and Chips Gluten Free. Usually, we use the Thornham branch of Eric's which have always been of a really good quality. Asked whether I was paying by card or cash, both accepted. Prices have risen as it was £21.50 for the two meals whereas it used to be circa £19. Paid and was handed a bleeper to notify when order was ready, so waited in my car. After about 5-10 minutes wait bleeper sounded to collect order. Entered premises again and was not greeted this time. Had to ask if there was any vinegar suitable for the Gluten Free meal, the reply was just 'yes', no help offered or pointed in direction to find it. Service could be improved upon certainly along with quality of potatoes used whilst being prepped for chips. Had a few too many black/inedible ones for quality expected and experienced before. Overall both meals were very oily, fish was good but batter on both was not as good as we have had before, quite thick and bottom was soggy, shame really as didn't mind paying a little more for the quality, that clearly wasn't there on this occasion. Always been a big fan of Eric’s for quality and, being a northern girl, the fact that they cook in beef dripping All the food this evening was lukewarm again (see my other recent review) even though I only live 3 minutes drive away and...

Recently moved to Huntingdon and was told about Eric's and I have to say was everything and more i was told. Have to say was one of the best, if not the best, chip shop I've ever visited. We'll worth trying. Service good too.

Friendly staff, fish had no flavour, £3.75 for one fish cake! Again with no flavour no evidence of fish within it. Bread and butter is in the menu, but they stopped serving it six months ago.

Bloomin proper old fashioned beef dripping cooked fish and chips!!! So much more flavour than these oils they use these days!!! Great customer service, great choice of products!! My order was cooked fresh and was still piping hot when I returned home some 20 minutes away!! HIGHLY RECOMEND!!!!

SO impressed that Eric's serves gluten free options. It's rare to find takeaways that cater for Coeliacs, so this scores really really high in my books. My partner was able to have real chip shop chips for the first time in about 15 years.. a pineapple fritter, and was given the option of battered fish too. Super impressed and will be returning!

Just had the Sunday Carvery - really good - roast beef was rare and tender, roast pork was tasty with good crackling, vegetables were nicely cooked with just a hint o indian spices Hight recommended - good value for money - we will visit again

We came to try the carvery last Sunday. As in a previous visit here a little while back, we received really nice, friendly service. The lunch is excellent value for money, the food very nice, and the whole atmosphere is so nice and pleasant. I would definitely recommend The White Hart to anyone.

I’m local to the hotel however haven’t eaten here for a while. Staff were very pleasant but the food really was only average, pretty poor actually considering its rating. Location and setting great but I wouldn’t return for a meal.

I can't comment on the food as I didn't have any but the staff was nice, it was peaceful and not overly crowded.
