Jolly Sailor in Huntingdonshire

When my husband sadly died in late August, there was no need for discussion as to where to hold the Wake ……. obviously it was going to be The Jolly Sailor, Ramsey, David’s preferred drinking place for over 40 years. In his latter years he was even afforded his own seat next to the bar. If someone was in it when he arrived, they were politely requested to move. Stacey, the new Landlady, very thoughtfully placed a photograph of David, together with his pipe and cap, on the seat for the duration of the Wake. Stacey was most helpful and accommodating and arranged a Wake far and beyond my hopes and expectations. On arrival there was a warm and welcoming atmosphere and the food and presentation was exceptional - the quality, variety and amount. Many complimentary comments were made. She, and her wonderful staff kept the table topped up and glasses full unobtrusively and efficiently. In fact they were firstclass throughout. I would wholeheartedly and without reservation recommend this lovely, atmospheric, friendly and welcoming establishment to anyone looking for a venue in which to hold their event. You would have to go a long way to better it.

Can't really be specific on atmosphere and price per head as was the gathering after my father in law's funeral. Pub was closed to the public. However, staff, service and buffet all great. Thanks to all that made it happen for David

Recently had new landlords and they are doing a brilliant job many improvements made outside lots of seating friendly staff and dog friendly and car park round the back.

Now new people have taken over it is a friendly family pub

It's been a while since I was in here. 7 years to be precise. Used to frequent it 20 years ago in the days of a previous Landlord. The present Landlord if 15 years is leaving so I guess there will be someone new next time. Always been one of my favourite pubs and nothing has really changed Excellent beer and friendly customers and staff what more does one need.

My first time in this pub only to witness a very aggressive man behind the bar, I can only assume is the manager of the premises shout and use profanity to a middle aged lady. The lady didn’t make any scene or say anything wrong to him as I was close enough to hear the whole conversation. First impressions are everything to a business and this was a lasting one for me. Whilst shopping in the community, I mentioned my experience to find that I am not the only one to have witnessed this behaviour from this man. Such a shame as this is a cosy pub but I’d hate to be on the receiving end of this particular man. Other staff seem nice enough but not enough to make me return.

This is a lovely old traditional pub. I've not eaten here but occasionally stopped at night on the way home from the leisure centre with some pals. There is always a friendly atmosphere and everyone is welcoming.

Me my partner and daughter popped in this delightful pub for a evening meal , outstanding cannot fault the staff cannot fault the food ,definitely go back if we are in this area again, my daughter had the mad mexican burger, she said it was one of the hottest she's ever eaten

Lovely old pub. I recommend a trip to this pub, I managed meet the locals and natter over a ice cold drink. 10/10 would highly suggest you give this pub a try :-)

We have only just moved our boat to Ramsey and found the Jolly Sailor the other day What a gem of a real pub in this day and age of plastic fakes we had a warm welcome from the landlord , great beer ( as a CAMRA member I can use my card ) and the burgers are spot on . Looks like we will be coming back :) Support your local pub because it’s worth it

Awful . Will never go again . Booked the meal they had our number . When arrived , no fish available. Half menu not available. Didn’t seem bothered. No one had contacted us.

A delightful oldy worldy public house, with great value home cooked meals. Good range of ales and a friendly welcoming atmosphere. I don’t think you could be disappointed by a visit here.

We had an amazing experience here! Went in on a Wednesday lunchtime and it was very busy but the lady who served us (Sorry I can't remember your name) was smiling, amazing and an absolute credit to the business! I ordered the sausage mash and veg which came with gravy and wow! The sausages were proper butcher sausages and the mash was delightfully creamy and the veg cooked perfectly. We did have to wait an hour due to how busy it was but it was worth the wait and worth every penny! Will definitely return when next in the area 11/10!!!

It's okay. Nice staff and a dog friendly area, but only 1 vegetarian main meal option available, so we couldn't eat.

I pre-booked a lunch meal (08.07.2022) for 3 on a punt and WOW! when we walked in how pleased I was The 350 year old building is an historic stunner outside and inside, but not only did the welcome as we stepped through the door make us feel like old friends returning, the choice and the actual meals we chose were amazing for their quality, quantity and price. I chose Whitebait salad starter, Liver and Bacon with mash and vegs for main, and followed up with an Eton Mess. With authentic decor, good beers, front and rear parking and central location, both landlord, landlady, bar staff and locals gave us a day to remember and for me personally Liver & Bacon that will never be beaten.

Felt very safe. Staff excellent, attentive, with safe distancing. Food very good, thank you Chef. Would recommend to keep our pub/restaurant viable. Beer (local brewer) best for a long while, even before lockdown. Thank you for being able to get together with friends.

I go here often when I travel to Ramsey to see family , nice cosy pub, staff are lovely.

We like to stop here when we are there. Staff always give us great service. The food is good and fresh. Pick the right days for the specials. Will go back again. Family lives there so they like to go there also.

Awful pub. Quite possibly the unfriendliest pub I’ve ever been in. Not made to feel welcome. The bar staff are just incredibly rude. One in particular who works on Sunday nights. I’ll be avoiding.

Went to Jolly Sailor today, hubby had ham,egg,chips which he said were fine but I had the pork/bacon pudding. I think it was supposed to be a suet pudding but the suet should be reasonably soft, this was like cardboard - very hard ! The place is desperately in need of some TLC. It needs brightening up instead of the old brown paint and new, lighter carpets. Shame really as this could be a superb pub.

Good home grub! We booked this pub for dinner as we needed somewhere close to where my gran was staying... it was a family get together/lunch as we didn’t see each other at Xmas. Through the front door we literally bumped into some people eating who had a dog, they actually held the door open for us so we could come in... we went to the bar and was shown to our table quite quickly... while we waited for the rest of our group to arrive I went to the loo.... I’m sorry but the stench from the men’s bathroom was overpowering and made me want to be sick! Luckily we didn’t smell it in the restaurant area. Feel sorry for anyone who sits next to that door... food was ordered and we were all happy with the food - pub grub, nothing special.. my son and partner went to the loo and said there was water all over the floor of the loo, on their 2nd trip my son actually slipped over in said water - I hope it was water anyway.... we had dessert and paid our bill which was very reasonable apart from the £1 squash charge that was super weak .... the only other thing that bugged me was the very loud annoying singing bar lady.... whilst we chatted all I could hear was her... please consider your guests, although we appreciate happy staff there is a level... This is also not a great place if you have wheelchairs or walkers, very tight in most places.

Unfortunately the food wasn't very good. My husband had a tasteless 8oz rump which had no red in it even though he ordered medium rare

Only been here once, myself and partner came for dinner as a last minute decision, took a little while to arrive, but was pleased with the food, would deffo go bk when we have time, and would/ have been recommending to people, nice touch that your dog's can go with you also 😊

after our last visit we found the lady chef had left. We ordered the cod and chips. the tartare sauce did not taste right, the fish was not that white, or tasty. very disappionting. we will not be going back again.

Superb preserved interior. Finally some pub management who don't have the compulsion to turn a beautiful pub into their inane Laura Ashley-styled living room. No big print wall paper, no union jack cushions, no exposed lightbulbs, no bland "Home Is Where the Heart Is" "Love Is A Four Letter Word" artwork. Great. Please don't mess this up.

Things that make this pub great: - Friendly staff - Good service - Traditional pub grub at cheap prices - There is a massive selection of about 20 gins - They welcome dogs - It's decorated with traditional nautical decor - They were playing the Guardians of the Galaxy sound track

My wife and had lunch here several months ago. The bar is nice and cosy, the staff are friendly and dogs are allowed. In fact, the front bar is reserved for dogs and their owners. The menu is quite extensive and the food is very tasty. On busy days, it can take a while to get served.
