Great place in the heart of Sawbo, forever finding myself in here for a quick bite and drink, food is quick and hot and surprisingly great for simple pub options as well as a few curveballs like the Korean chicken bites, highly recommend these. Staff are always excellent and attentive. Worth a try 👌

Currently, the best pub in Sawbridgeworth! Ales always in excellent condition. A great friendly atmosphere, especially when the fabulous Eleanor is behind the bar. Keep up the good work!

If you're not a regular, bar staff will go out of their way to make you feel unwelcome. They'll let their regulars jump past you in a bar queue, serve them, then go and leave you standing there at the bar after serving them to do other stuff before serving you.

Came to sawbridgeworth for the day and came in here for pub lunch. Lovely lady Tracy did a good job serving everyone 😃 (give her a raise 👍)

Took my family out today at white lion pub had we had roast dinner but the meals were not nice we are not well now been very sick in the toilet a lot so we won't be going there again the food was rack the the staff was rude

When in the area we have always stopped at the White Lion in Sawbridgeworth for our lunch, the food is really great, the service is fantastic and it’s a real nice old pub. The staff are brilliant definitely worth a visit.

Tracey behind the bar is a diamond, whenever I've been in there she is on her own and uncluttered, however busy it is.

Very nice visit to the white lion, came in for a few drinks and the manager Gary was very welcoming and chatty with us we also grabbed some food which was delicious.

Visited for lunch food was excellent and good value deal at lunch staff all very welcoming will return again soon with more friends

The food takes forever to come out of the kitchen which is frankly un acceptable we ordered for 3 people and it took over 45 minutes while the pub was almost completely empty. While the food is nice it should not be taking this long to come out. Do not come here unless you want to wait and hour for food.

Really accommodating landlord. Arranged a large table for a family and friends celebration on the quiz night at very short notice. Nothing too much trouble and great night had by all.

Getting out of the wind and rain we were really pleased to find this friendly pub. We ordered the steak sandwich and cheese toastie from the lunch menu. Both were delicious. Well done Tommy and the bar staff Gary and Libby. Added bonus- dogs are welcome. Would highly recommend a visit.

Staff were all friendly and super helpful, really were going that extra mile. Loved how they knew their regulars. Great drinks options, food was amazing and our dog got top service! Safe to say we will be returning!!

Lovely food, rear steak sandwich

Reserved a table to hook up with some friends for drinks over the Easter period. Was given a great space with plenty of room for all of us and we were able to keep our table for several hours which was an unexpected bonus. The pub was busy with a really friendly vibe. Drinks were great and it was Service with a Smile which made for a pleasant experience all round.

Visited the white lion today had Sunday dinner which is excellent staff couldn't do enough to help great place to visit and the beer is good to.

Had a little pub crawl of Sawbridgeworth on a day off. Really nice pub, great atmosphere and staff. Didn't eat so couldn't comment on the food but plenty of people were.

My friend and I live 100 miles apart and like to meet for a walk and lunch roughly halfway. We were looking for something in the area after a walk in Pishiobury Park (lovely park - do go) and this sparked my interest due to the menu (I eat anything and my friend is a vegetarian) and the fact that it welcomes dogs. We turned up on spec and had a lovely welcome and a great window table. There was a huge range of non-alcoholic drinks (both driving from opposite directions) and the menu I had seen on line. My friend's dog was brought a bowl of water and a treat. The food choice was really good, and what we had was top notch. My friend had the pulled mushroom risotto, which looked gorgeous, and I had the halloumi and prawns with chorizo from the starters/sharing range. It was all extremely good. I would thoroughly recommend to any dog-loving, food loving people on a reasonable budget. The lady at the bar was really nice and took pains to find us the best deal from the menu.

Online booking system worked well. Table was clearly labelled and waiting for us. Table was clean and not sticky. Food was delivered promptly by smiling staff. The food was delicious and brilliant cooked. The steak and ale pie was eaten by the fussiest person at the table and he made no complaints at all - this is worthy of five star praise on it's own.

Really nice lunch cooked very well and presented beautifully. The lunch menu was a set price of £10.00 which included a non alcoholic drink or for an extra £1.00 a beer. There were other main menu options individually priced which looked loverly. I did see the couple on next table along had a pie and it was very big and I am not sure I could eat it for lunch. In conclusion great food great beer and a great lunch. Landlord and staff very friendly and would go again

Have been a regular here for many years and the service has always been good. The venue has thrived in the past few months and that is a reflection of how the management and staff have increased footfall. The positive energy and professionalism shown by all has definately increased customer satisfaction. There has been a lot of work behind the scenes to get to this point so I would personally like to thank Gregg and Vicki for being supportive. Bar staff Phil and Vicki where friendly and welcoming and service was great. We had a buffet was well prepared and very tasty highly complemented by our guest, many have returned for meals after the event. The chefs did a great job. Tally the team leader went above and beyond with everything for us, decorations where amazing with loads of personal touches. Tally made the whole event stress free. Greg the manager was very accommodating with our request and put no pressure on us. A great night, great memories will use the pub again for our events.

Gluten free/ coeliac avoid. Clear supply chain issue. As someone with a gluten allergy I was given a burger (after ordering from the gf menu and being assured by the restaurant) found that it was in fact a normal gluten burger. The bar refunded the tab and gave me a free drink and steak. The pub handled a bad situation well.

I have been to many pubs for many roasts but I have never had a roast as ill-looking and as bland as the one I had yesterday. After over an hour and a half wait our roast beef dinner arrived. 4 anaemic, undercooked potatoes, vegetables which dissolved into water and the beef being the size of the palm of my hand. Despite the beef being relatively tasty, the size of it was appalling. The only reason why this pub deserves the stars is because the gentleman behind the bar and the lady serving were great and understood our frustration completely. The chef however… needs a career change.

Awful food. Truly the worst I’ve had at a pub in the UK. The children’s pasta was mush, it had been cooked for hours and we have to wait over an hour for a basic order. Avoid!

Went for Sunday lunch and what a turn around since my last visit . The Sunday lunch was amazing , good quality meat and the Yorkshire struggled to fit on my plate .

A lovely afternoon spent in this quaint little pub, nice friendly atmosphere and great service. Greg and his team made us very welcome and we all loved the food, which was tasty and nicely presented. We'll be back

We stopped into The White Lion for a quick bite while driving through the area, and ordered two chicken sandwiches and chips. We waited nearly an hour to be served, the sandwiches where mainly maionese with a tiny piece of cold chicken, the bread so stale it had already crumbled into little pieces and the chips where stone cold. The waitress brought the food out asking sheepishly if everything was ok, clearly embarrassed to be serving such poor food, and agreed when we said it was awful. Hands down the worst food I have every been served in any pub or restaurant – and ‘trying it on’ when food is so visibly inedible is an insult to paying customers.

This is a very quaint pub with a lovely atmosphere and great service. The food was tasty and well presented, good value for money. Definitely be back soon

Booked a table for food, for 3 adults and child for dinner. Turned up on time (4:30pm, 4 and a half hours before the kitchen closes?). Got told they aren’t taking anymore food orders. Had to find somewhere else with a table, with a hungry toddler in tow. Can’t really understand why they didn’t just call and say sorry we can’t do food, rather than us turn up, pay for parking, then send us away. Really weird. Can’t really give any stars for that 😂

Came in for a few pints a few days ago, started on lager but moved to gin as the choices were just so good! Lovely warm atmosphere, friendly chatty staff too. Will be back again very soon.
