Lovely food, rear steak sandwich

Reserved a table to hook up with some friends for drinks over the Easter period. Was given a great space with plenty of room for all of us and we were able to keep our table for several hours which was an unexpected bonus. The pub was busy with a really friendly vibe. Drinks were great and it was Service with a Smile which made for a pleasant experience all round.

Visited the white lion today had Sunday dinner which is excellent staff couldn't do enough to help great place to visit and the beer is good to.

Excellent food. We had the steak sandwich. It was excellent but would benefit from toasting the bread. We also had the cheese toastie which was awesome.

Had a little pub crawl of Sawbridgeworth on a day off. Really nice pub, great atmosphere and staff. Didn't eat so couldn't comment on the food but plenty of people were.

My friend and I live 100 miles apart and like to meet for a walk and lunch roughly halfway. We were looking for something in the area after a walk in Pishiobury Park (lovely park - do go) and this sparked my interest due to the menu (I eat anything and my friend is a vegetarian) and the fact that it welcomes dogs. We turned up on spec and had a lovely welcome and a great window table. There was a huge range of non-alcoholic drinks (both driving from opposite directions) and the menu I had seen on line. My friend's dog was brought a bowl of water and a treat. The food choice was really good, and what we had was top notch. My friend had the pulled mushroom risotto, which looked gorgeous, and I had the halloumi and prawns with chorizo from the starters/sharing range. It was all extremely good. I would thoroughly recommend to any dog-loving, food loving people on a reasonable budget. The lady at the bar was really nice and took pains to find us the best deal from the menu.

Always come here staff are really good especially Tracy who really looks after everyone didn’t eat today but food looked good highly recommended

Online booking system worked well. Table was clearly labelled and waiting for us. Table was clean and not sticky. Food was delivered promptly by smiling staff. The food was delicious and brilliant cooked. The steak and ale pie was eaten by the fussiest person at the table and he made no complaints at all - this is worthy of five star praise on it's own.

Really nice lunch cooked very well and presented beautifully. The lunch menu was a set price of £10.00 which included a non alcoholic drink or for an extra £1.00 a beer. There were other main menu options individually priced which looked loverly. I did see the couple on next table along had a pie and it was very big and I am not sure I could eat it for lunch. In conclusion great food great beer and a great lunch. Landlord and staff very friendly and would go again

Had a Christmas meal here today and it was cooked to perfection. Also very happy with the portion sizes as I had abundance of turkey. Compliments to the chef!

Have been a regular here for many years and the service has always been good. The venue has thrived in the past few months and that is a reflection of how the management and staff have increased footfall. The positive energy and professionalism shown by all has definately increased customer satisfaction. There has been a lot of work behind the scenes to get to this point so I would personally like to thank Gregg and Vicki for being supportive. Myself and my husband used the location to celebrate our wedding. We had 45+ guest attended and they all had an amazing time. Bar staff Phil and Vicki where friendly and welcoming and service was great. We had a buffet was well prepared and very tasty highly complemented by our guest, many have returned for meals after the event. The chefs did a great job. Tally the team leader went above and beyond with everything for us, decorations where amazing with loads of personal touches. Tally made the whole event stress free. Greg the manager was very accommodating with our request and put no pressure on us. A great night, great memories will use the pub again for our events.

Gluten free/ coeliac avoid. Clear supply chain issue. As someone with a gluten allergy I was given a burger (after ordering from the gf menu and being assured by the restaurant) found that it was in fact a normal gluten burger. The bar refunded the tab and gave me a free drink and steak. The pub handled a bad situation well.

I have been to many pubs for many roasts but I have never had a roast as ill-looking and as bland as the one I had yesterday. After over an hour and a half wait our roast beef dinner arrived. 4 anaemic, undercooked potatoes, vegetables which dissolved into water and the beef being the size of the palm of my hand. Despite the beef being relatively tasty, the size of it was appalling. The only reason why this pub deserves the stars is because the gentleman behind the bar and the lady serving were great and understood our frustration completely. The chef however… needs a career change.

Awful food. Truly the worst I’ve had at a pub in the UK. The children’s pasta was mush, it had been cooked for hours and we have to wait over an hour for a basic order. Avoid!

Went for Sunday lunch and what a turn around since my last visit . The Sunday lunch was amazing , good quality meat and the Yorkshire struggled to fit on my plate .

We stopped into The White Lion for a quick bite while driving through the area, and ordered two chicken sandwiches and chips. We waited nearly an hour to be served, the sandwiches where mainly maionese with a tiny piece of cold chicken, the bread so stale it had already crumbled into little pieces and the chips where stone cold. The waitress brought the food out asking sheepishly if everything was ok, clearly embarrassed to be serving such poor food, and agreed when we said it was awful. Hands down the worst food I have every been served in any pub or restaurant – and ‘trying it on’ when food is so visibly inedible is an insult to paying customers.

My first visit to this lovely pub was great. The staff are friendly and food was delicious. Felt welcomed. This will be in my shortlist.

Booked a table for food, for 3 adults and child for dinner. Turned up on time (4:30pm, 4 and a half hours before the kitchen closes?). Got told they aren’t taking anymore food orders. Had to find somewhere else with a table, with a hungry toddler in tow. Can’t really understand why they didn’t just call and say sorry we can’t do food, rather than us turn up, pay for parking, then send us away. Really weird. Can’t really give any stars for that 😂

We chose the White Lion as the setting for a big family get-together recently - for my dad's 80th birthday - and it was absolutely brilliant! The management team, Dan and Phil, were super helpful and welcoming, and they did a fantastic job of helping us to organise our event in advance. We pre-ordered lots of sharer plates etc for everyone to tuck into, and everything was delicious on the day. We also pre-ordered some bottles of prosecco from the bar, and when we arrived at the pub the champagne glasses were already laid out for us on trays (all sparkling clean!), and the 'den' area we had asked to be reserved for us was all ready-to-go. We were able to reserve enough tables in the pub to cope with our very large family group (which was about 30-35 people, ranging from babies to the over-80s!) The management were happy to let us bring in some special '80' decorations, and all-in-all the whole experience was just really positive and great. I can't speak highly enough of the pub and its team for everything they did to help make our special family 'do' go so brilliantly - from our first phone call to the follow-up email communications we had afterwards, and then our in-person experiences on the day. Dan, Phil and their team of lovely friendly staff (including the lovely Milly!) really made us feel so welcome and relaxed. The whole family were really impressed, and all had a great time. So much so, we're going back to the Lion next weekend for another gathering with some friends! (Also as a part of my dad's extended birthday celebrations ;o) Thank you SO much to Dan & his team for a really fab experience. Keep up the great work! *x*

Great afternoon in the white lion recently! Only popped in for lunch and ended up staying for a few hours, it was warm welcoming and tye staff were amazing. Food was lovely too, this is a little gem of a pub in Sawbridgeworth. Will be back again soon. Highly recommend.

Unfortunately our experience here was not so great. We stopped for lunch and we regret it. We had a Sunday roast that came without Yorkshire pudding, no greens and no carrots. I asked about it and they said they've ran out. Really? At 2 pm on a Sunday? Yet we've been charged full price! Also a portion of chicken wings which came with the wrong sauce. Apart from the roast potatoes and chips, nothing else was good. And for all this we had to wait for an hour when it wasn't even that busy...
